Speaking both personally and for the character she portrays, one of the actor's co-stars, Amanda Tapping (Maj. Samantha Carter) sighed, " I understand why he's leaving, but I'm devastated.  I will miss him so much ­ we all will ­ for so many reasons.  His friendship, his camaraderie, his sense of humor, his compassion.  We will never be able to replace him, but send him off with all the love and light and best wishes that we can possibly give.  I fervently hope that circumstances will allow Daniel to come back and be with us at some point in the future'.
