Thought of the Day for TPTB

The Best Ever? By RF

I've been finding the reactions to Redemption rather amusing.  Those diehard few who 'loved it', thought the Stargate 'magic' was stronger than ever, some even going so far as dubbing it 'the best Stargate episode in the history of Stargate', they amuse me. They're more than welcome to like whatever they want, but liking it doesn't make it good quality and liking it 'really really hard' won't make the rest of the viewers like it.

About those other viewers... Friday night I taped Redemption and went to see a movie with my best friend. Usually watching Stargate is something I did with my parents. I'd tape the Showtime eps on Friday, and then we'd watch them and the syndicated ones back to back on Saturday. I'd already seen every episode anyway (mostly on squinty-vision) so seeing them again and out of order was no big deal for me and my Dad just wanted to see them regardless.

Anyway, Saturday afternoon I asked him if he had watched the night before. He had. I guess my Dad figured I wasn't interested in seeing Redemption (since I had mentioned I didn't think I could watch season 6) and he and my Mom watched it without me. So, of course I asked him what he thought. My Mom teased about 'someone' missing parts of it (translation: My Dad nodded off <grin>). His defense after a reflexive denial: it was boring.

Long story short, Dad hated it. It was boring, uninteresting. Hated Jonas, hated Sam. (But then he was so sick of her by Entity he was disappointed when she survived. As an aside, during Meridian he assumed Sam would yet *again* save the day and save Daniel, not realizing it was the 'Daniel dies' episode I had been bitching about for months. Even *knowing* Daniel was being 'killed' off, he couldn't believe it.)

His comment to me about Redemption was: "The new guy is even more annoying than 'your friend'". (The sarcasm doesn't drip too far from the tree <grin>) He meant Sam because he knows how irritated I've become with the character.

What I find amusing in all this is, my Dad watches *a lot* of TV. A LOT. He gives just about *every* new show a chance. Hell, he *still* watches Mutant X even though he admits it's crap. ... Also, my Dad watched Stargate from the beginning. Even subscribed to Showtime for it for a while. Thing is, if Season Six continues on like it's opener, which was supposed to be 'coming in with a bang' (more like a whimper) then I'm not sure even my Dad will still watch.  He stopped watching Farscape because it just wasn't interesting anymore. (I guess Mutant X still has eye-candy fx to keep him interested <shrug>)

The way I see it if My Dad feels the same way I do about Redemption and he's *nowhere* near as discriminating as I am about what he watches, then maybe, just maybe there is some truth to it. A truth some are just too blinded by the 'Brilliance that is the PTB' to see.

P.S... Was just talking to my Mom. She didn't really see much of Redemption because *she* had fallen asleep, and admitted to not being as "enthused" about the show, hadn't for a while now. For about two years to be precise, when the show became less about archeaology and more about guns and conspiracies. The only thing keeping her attention is Richard Dean Anderson because he's amusing.

Neither of my parents are the type to write letters or form any sort of protest about a show changing to the point of not being interesting anymore.

They just change the channel...
