I am 80 years old and have always watched stargate SG1, but couldn't believe that daniel had gone from the series, I watched it a couple of times since but it is definitely not the same show, and it is possible I won't be watching it again. Anyway the sequence which you showed of the future definitely had him it it so how can he be dead?

Hi,
I just wanted to say that when Daniel died on stargate, my sister and I stopped watching the show. But my parents would watch it no matter what. My Family watches the show on mondays and fridays plus my brother buys the dvd's series. So you can say we pretty much love the show. I seen on tv that you are picking some one to be on the show. So I entered the sweepstates. I know I am 13 years old and live in a small town and might not win. But I signed up for it anyway. I have a Question ..... When are they going to announce the winner? I would really apperciate if you e-mail me back. I like this website it's really neat. Thanks if you answer my e-mail and welcome back.

We really enjoyed the Lowdown show in SciFi. It's so much fun to see you all out of character too. Thanks alot and we enjoy all the new adventures (and the past ones too)!

Dear michaelI have just watched the film and after a big consideration i have come up with the following conclusions. I prefer Richard Dean Anderson as Colonel O'neill and although I have nothing against James Spader he was quite good in the part of Daniel, he did a good sneeze, it wasn't you I'm afraid I have to embarrass you by saying that you are by far the better looking out of the two of you and not only do you bring daniel to life you also make him handsome and those eyes i find myself hypnotised by them.
I have seem pictures of the seventh season(i don't get the programme until september)wow you are a stunner. By the way I rented the video of the film to watch. I have dvds and video tapes and my decision every night is what to watch. I am a first class sad bitch but it is worth it just looking into your eyes.
congrats on your news

Hi I cant wait until september when the seventh season is going to be shown here. I have been watching various episodes and find that when ever they were filmed back in 1998 or so you can feel a pressence which was not in the sixth series(other than three) Michael Shanks might like the stage but through a television screen you can feel that he is there. Maybe its his eyes that stand out. You have to admit that they are beautiful. As i have said before get them insured. The rest of Micheal makes Daniel jackson an even more beautiful person. The voice is nice and soothing and he can sing. that did not supprise me what has is the acting ability he is fantastic as daniel. My plea michael is please do not leave stargate again.I must apologise some of this is written not to michael but about michael. My husband is called daniel and he is a saggitarian like michael. But he does not like stargate but he lets me records the episodes so I suppose thats something.
Before I go and claim this as a novel I shall just mention my favourate episodes Crystal skull - there is something amusing about daniel talking to himself, Legacy - proved michaels acting ability he learnt his trade well in the hands of sheakespeare. 1969 - i dig the hair, and the glasses and the trousers and the german accent, and the phrase "i speak 23 languages pick one", and there are others but these three stick in my mind because i have watched them a lot.
Anyway got to go now
see you on tv michael keep up the good work

Hi again Michael,
Stargate is really great to watch. Each and every person in this tv series suits the character given to them. Jack, Sam and Teal'c are fantastis as well in their respective roles. And you of course , you are superb. You know what i like most about your character? It is those facial expresions: when you are afraid or when u don't understand something . It is those expressions themselves that tell everything and u neen not voice it out to make the spectators know what you are feeling. Your character is that of a very understanding person who tries to see the good side of something and at the same time is cautious. I also like when Daniel is in difficulty and as call Jack for help.
The arguments between Jack and Daniel are very entertaining as well. I also like when u and Sam try to solve a problem . I liked the scene in the episode "The Serpent's Venom" in season 4 when u and sam were manipulating that apparatus or sthg like that.
Well what can i say more. I think i can't express myself fully. When i'll be ready i'll write more. For the moment i'll only say KEEP IT UP MICHAEL(DANIEL). I like your character VERY much. I only wish to see u in more and more seasons. Also if u r going to write or direct some episodes, then good luck. (BY THE WAY U CAN MAIL ME TO ASK FOR IDEAS!!!!!!**********) Is it just kidding? Idon't think so. byeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Hi Michael Shanks or should i say Mr The Archaeologist coz it's the character of Dr Daniel Jackson that i appreciate a lot. Well i'm extremely delighted that u r coming back to join ur team. I was really sad when u were not there for season 6 coz ur presence add a different taste to the episodes of stargate. Also ur character is very nice to watch. i mean those facial expressions, the arguments with Jack, ur understanding, trying to solve a problem etc.. are really amazing. All these mada me watch stargate. Frankly spaeking when i started watching the first episode i did not show so much interest but u appeared, i just said "wow who's this handsome guy , looking great with the spectacles and medium haircut?" And then from that day i did not miss even one episode. Well i end here wishing u good luck and hope to see u in more and more seasons of stargate. Hope there are more and more seasons to come Congrats for ur success and best wishes. Bye

I'm soooo glad you're coming back! The show is not the same without you. You add a presence that cannot be replaced;
it's not simply the character it's the uniqueness that you,
the actor, bring to the part. Without you the essence
is missing from the whole; it takes the entire cast to
create the heart of the show.
It's one of those shows that I cannot name a favorite actor.
Each actor brings talent and depth to the part bringing
the whole show into a class of its own.
My teenage son and I have made it a family ritual to sit down and watch the show together discussing the plot, characters, and action afterwards.
Welcome back! May your career be long and successful and your memories be of a richness that brings you great joy :)

You are the man, Shanks! I've long been a fan. Here's what I had posted on this site to get you back...6-16-02
After viewing the most recent episode of Stargate I became comforted only when I convinced myself that it was an imposter and that the real Stargate would surely be aired again soon. It looked similar to the Stargate I had so readily identified with but I didn't see my favorite character named Daniel Jackson. I relate to this erudite's high standards and ethics. He does what is right despite difficulty. His character embodies what few leaders today can accomplish - the melding of intellect and emotion and acting upon them both. He reaps the rewards of training and all of its sacrifices. I'm not sure if I am like him or if I want to be more like him. I know this: in an embarassing and mass-mediated way, I related to Daniel Jackson. I remained in disbelief throughout the entire first episode of this season. I actually thought the writers were kidding and would bring him back in Part II. But now he is gone? Even now I think you're just testing my loyalty.
If Daniel will no longer be a regular member of SG1 then I can no longer support the television program. My loyalty was to him. The stargate is not a physical portal to other dimensions or other places in space, but rather, an experience of other cultures - our ancestors. It is a discovery of who we are and who we could have been. Who can explore those cultures more specifically than Daniel Jackson? You cannot convince me that an alien with a well-toned body and darling smile can replace the years of study of the human condition that Daniel underwent as a student of history!
And history repeats itself. As our present day world battles against terror, so also SG1 (and the other teams) battle agains the Goa'uld. But what battles are being fought behind your lines? These are the facts I wish I knew less of. I'm a viewer, but knowing about the cast and crew and their disagreements steals the magic of the idea of the stargate. Your job is to take me away from this planet. I want to escape and now I'm caught up in writing this letter to help you realize that you've undermined the very core of SG1. I always thought of Daniel as the main character. I completely love all of the other characters as well though. But not enough to continue viewing.
You've lost me. I will not be watching your imposter programming with its new sarcastic edge and flippant attitude toward the Goa'uld. And, as a result, I will not be influenced to buy the products of your sponsors during the commercial breaks. When Michael Shanks is on the payroll please have him give me a call and I'll watch his show again.
Thank you for your time,
yttriam

dear michaelSo glad you're back to the part you have made your own i haven't been watching stargate for long but i am hooked. In england on sky one they are show the first season on one of our other stations they are showing season five. My husband is supprised I like science fiction but I did like the old star trek and lost in space.
I liked the floppy haired version but when you got a hair cut the eyes where still there. Get them insured mate.
My favourites are legacy and crystal skull, the sad bitch that I am I have watched it so many times I know the script!!
Anyway I am glad you are back and am awaiting the first episode to be viewed here in england in september you lucky people in america get it on the 13 june.
You have a pressence on screen that was missing in the episodes you were not in in the six series. Even if it was made ages ago I could still feel you on screen. My question is How can an already much to good looking a man make himself even better with a pair of glasses and a floppy haircut(in season one and two). I discovered that having a pair of big beautiful blue eyes helps!!!!!!!
Any way all the best keep up the good work. See you on tele

Mr.Shanks -I was very surprised and sad when you left/were killed off in the show. The position of the linguist/archaeologist is considerably what keeps the show alive with interest and allows us as viewers some window into the great cultural and historical content for alien races encountered.
When your character deciphers a device or wall carving the amount of content the writers and graphics people put into the show to make this happen adds layers that just seem missing when it is all about political or military thinking. Although these also add to the interest of the show, the linguistics and mystery in the original movie was what I couldn't wait to see in the series.
I love the humour in the series between all the characters. If the writers put as much into the cultural depth of the show as they do the humour this show will have no shortage of viewers OR support!
thanks for all your work, very glad you are back,

Dear Mr. Shanks, Well looks like I'm a little late but I didn't know about this site. I don't know if you quit or you were just bumped off but I think it's a little boring without an archaeologist on the show. I'm 15 and I love archaeology and egyptology. My friend Elen is an Archaeologist. She's not too happy about this either. Stargate is such a cool show but it's just not the same without you. I really haven't been following it lately. I think your a great actor and you play a better archaeologist than the guy from the movie. Well, I wish you were still on the show but I guess that won't happen. All fans should agree that bringing back Daniel Jackson was a clever idea. Somewhat satisfying the Dr.'s fan's needs to see him again. Michael Shanks is a brilliant actor, and is the top of one of four reasons why I watch Stargate SG-1. I am looking forward to his online chat interview. I hope to get to speak to you Michael.

Daniel jackson is a great person for the show, with out daniel it has been different, still good but different,i have watched the series from the very beginning, when the sg1 base was over run by jaffa, the show and the people in it have amazed and surprised all of us. I can not think of a better show to watch a night,Daniel part is interesting he words of ancient surronding and other places amaze me about him,his words on the show get me through bad and good times since the show started, life is no picnic, this show help me get away from it all,it will be hard to find a better program to watch when it is finaly cut, they should do a film with Michael,Dean,Amanda,Cristopher in it,i know film take time, but it would be worth it,dont forget corin,Daniel amazed me from the begining and will to the very end,he will never be forgot,he is a interersting man and so is his character, good luck in the series see u soon,i do hope i meet u in meet u in person one day and the rest of the cast, bye, vicki.

Dear Mr. Shanks,Thank you for your brilliant, sensitive, passionate portrayal of Dr. Daniel Jackson. Normally I don’t write letters to celebrities, but in this instance, I owe you a personal note of gratitude for what you’ve done for my son, Drew. He’s 12 years old. His voice is changing and he’s at that awkward stage of development where he doesn’t quite fit in anywhere. We moved to a new neighborhood/new school last year, so he’s still struggling to find where he belongs. For the past two years, however, he’s had a great deal of trouble with his studies. He’s very bright – reading at 12th grade level in the 6th grade – but had no interest in school. All he wanted was to play video/computer games, and hide from the world.
Please understand, I did not bring computer games into my home lightly. I use them as a reward/punishment for correct/incorrect behavior. When his grades are up, he can play them. When they go down, he can’t. But this year, even that had stopped working as an incentive to get him to concentrate on the things that matter. We were at a loss how to get him motivated to study, and he was in danger of failing a grade.
I’ve only been watching Stargate SG-1 for less than a year. I saw the movie when it first came out and loved it, as it combined two of my favorite things – mythology and science fiction. However; we didn’t have Showtime and missed the series when it first began to air. Thanks to a friend, we found it on The Sci-Fi Channel, and have been loving it ever since (though the 6th season was difficult to watch without you). Now, to the thrust of my post: My son has taken an obsessive interest in the show. He loves the four main characters, but Daniel is his favorite. Drew walks like Daniel. He has allergies like Daniel. He’s very smart and people don’t get him – like Daniel. And when I started pointing out some of the similarities between him and Dr. Jackson, he was thrilled. Now, he wants to be Daniel, and is considering a career in archaeology.
He’s taken a huge interest in mythology, languages and anthropology. He’s studying, and his grades have taken a huge leap upward. He’s learning to be comfortable with being smart and on the geeky side, learning to be okay with who he is, because he sees a wonderful example of a man who can be smart and sensitive and funny, a little clumsy at times, like he is, but still powerful in his beliefs and a great warrior; a man who truly makes a difference in the lives of those around him. Because of Daniel Jackson, he has a goal he can shoot for, a role model he can emulate who takes pride in the fact that he’s not a jock. Everybody can’t be an athlete, and those with brains do matter. In fact, sometimes it’s the brainy ones who matter most.
We have discussions now about mythology and its role in human development. He asks questions about history and other cultures. He is eager to learn words here and there in other languages. He has stars in his eyes, Mr. Shanks, because he’s seen humanity through the lens of the chaapa’ai, and the eyes of an everyday hero. Thank you for that, and for having the courage to follow your own beliefs. You’ve helped to create a character that speaks to 12-year-old boys and helps them have the confidence to be who they really are, and to believe in themselves.
That’s a pretty weighty accomplishment for an actor to achieve, don’t you think? You have this mom’s gratitude, for sure. Congratulations on your return to the series. We’re glad to have you back.
Sincerely,
Victoria Rivers

I'm glad to see Michael Shanks back in the show. I really missed him. I want Michael to know I think he is cute and hott. I really missed him on the series of Sg-1. The show just wasn't the same without him. Good Luck to you on the new series of Sg-1, Michael. I would like to meet you and the whole Sg-1 team someday. I love the show. I want you to know Michael, that when you died in the show, I cried. You are what makes the show fun to watch. Good Luck to you guys again. Good Luck to Amanda when she directs the show.

Micheal Shanks was great and it's great to see him back in the series if only for a while. They could not have cast four better actors for SG-1. There is only one Daniel Jackson! Jonus Quinn however, is no replacement for Daniel, but lets face it people (right there with you Edna from Luton) he chose to leave, and Jonus in my opinion is an excellient choice to join the team. We need more series of Stargate. It will be very sad to see it end, but look forward to the forth coming movie! Daniel has to be in that, right!?!?!?!

Now come on people, let's stop knocking Jonus Quinn. He's great. He's not trying to be Daniel. You could almost say he's another aspect of Daniel. After all Michael Shanks made the decision to leave to go off and do other things. Something he would be doing at the end of Season 7 anyway if he hadn't already left.I do not get the feeling that RDA wants to do an 8th Season and a man has to make a living. Don't get me wrong I love Daniel. Cried all evening after that episode of Meridian. Daniel leaving was bad enough, but the way he left. YUK. I hated it. Wrote my own story about Daniel leaving as I hated it so much. He ends up great in my story.Ascending appears to be a complete waste of time. It's almost like having two legs and hopping around on one. What's the point of having that kind of power and not being able to use it.TALK ABOUT A WASTE OF TIME.Anyway the episodes Daniel's been in in Season 6 have been great episodes.I shout at him most of the time and tell him to go away, especially in Abyss, but after all this is an actor we are talking about and if we care about the actor enough we should be happy with the decisions he needs to make in his real life.I am going to hate it when Stargate ends.I hate the thought now.I could thump RDA for wanting to leave it there. But that's his decision.
Sorry if I've upset anyone.I really do love Daniel.

The show is not and has not been the same without the Daniel Jackson character and the excellent portrayal of that character by Michael Shanks! What were the shows writers and producers thinking?? The new character (don't even know his name) is awful!!! Let's hope there's a way to bring back Daniel Jackson and Michael Shanks ... and SOON!!!

The show just isn't the same without Daniel. He's the missing piece of the puzzle and very necessary to the show as a whole. Please don't let him (or any of the other original cast, for that matter!) slip through your fingers again. Nothing could be more detrimental to the show! Welcome back "Daniel"! You were extremely missed!

I have always enjoyed SG-1,but without Daniel Jackson it lacks the emotional tie that brings the team together. Since Daniel was not trained in the military, he is the one who could say what the rest of the team was feeling. This let the others keep their military trained "nothing but buisness" personalities from having to show a lot of emotion in every episode. No one wants to see our strong leader O'Neal and Tealk hugging in the halls of SGC saying "Your my best friend" or Carter break down in tears over the death of a animal. Daniel has a way of letting them show thier feelings through him. If Mr. Shanks wants to work on SG-1, I hope the writters put him back on. He adds the personal feelings in a all military setting.

I want to see Michael Shanks stay on in his role of Danial Jackson. He has been an intergal part of the series and I would not like to see him disappear. To me that would be like getting rid of Col Jack O'Neil. Now you would not do that and so I feel is the power behind the role or Danial Jackson. I like him like a warm breeze of usefull civilian mixed in with the military attitude of O'Neil, Carter, and Teal'c. Their attitude is needed to make the show work well and Danial Jackson smooths out the hard core military flare of the others. We need Jackson's role as much as O'Neil and Carter and Teal'c. Add to the mix, Jonas and we have a well rounded team for SG1. I like it, so let season 7 rain with the good fortune that the last six seasons have given to us. Welcome back Danial Jackson!!!!, and hang in their Jonas......

I think Stargate is GREAT! It's one of the best shows on TV - well written and SUPER characters! We watch it 6 times a week on 2 different channels. SOMETHING IS MISSING LATELY, HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! DANIEL JACKSON!!!!!!!!
What happened to him?????? He's the one who started Stargate, without him it wouldn't be. The team works too well together (as O'Neil, T'ealc, Carter AND DANIEL JACKSON!) to break up.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BRING DANIEL JACKSON BACK!!!!!!!!!

WE MISS DANIEL JACKSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While the new character, Jonas, is good and I don't want to take anything away from him, he's just not Daniel Jackson. Daniel Jackson was there from the start and he's part of the whole family. He also brings a personality depth and completion to the team that just isn't there anymore.
PLEASE BRING DANIEL JACKSON BACK ---- BELIEVE ME, HE'S WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just ask ANY of his fans!!!!

I HAVE FOLLOWED STARGATE SINCE THE BEGINNING, MIND YOU I'M NOT A SCI-FI FAN AT ALL. THIS HAS TO HAVE BEEN THE
GREATEST TV SERIES THAT HAS EVER BEEN. WHEN DANIEL LEFT, I
KEPT EXPECTING HIM TO RETURN AT ANY MOMENT. BUT, OF COURSE, HE DID NOT. YOU CAN NOT HAVE A STARGATE SG-1 WITHOUT HIM. O'NEILL, CARTER, TEAL'C AND DANIEL ARE THE
PERFECT TEAM. ONE CAN'T WORK WITHOUT THE OTHER. THE CHEMISTRY IS GREAT. I STOPPED WATCHING MOST OF THE EPISODES, BECAUSE, FRANKLY, THEY WERE NOT INTERESTING AT ALL. THE EPISODES JUST DID NOT SEEM TO BE AS GOOD AS BE-
FORE WITH THE NEW STORY LINES. I'M PROUD MICHEAL STOOD UP
FOR HIS IDEAS. YOU HAVE ENOUGH STORIES TO CONTINUE ON FROM
A LOT OF THE PAST EPISODES.
I'M JUST SO HAPPY THAT MICHEAL IS COMING BACK. KEEP ON MAKING THOSE GREAT EPISODES WITH THE ORIGINAL TEAM.
I'LL CERTAINLY WILL BE WATCHING AGAIN. I HOPE STARGATE SG-1
IS AROUND FOR MANY MORE SEASONS. AND WITH DANIEL BACK, I'M
SURE IT WILL BE.

I have watched Stargate SG1 since its inception (I also watched the film). Both in the movie and in the series the characters of Dr. Daniel Jackson and Col. Jack O'Neill were of paramount importance. You need the different viewpoints of the military and civilian ways of life represented in a series that is endeavouring to meet other life forms. Although I watched the first few episodes of SG1 Season 6 there was a tremendous difference to the feel of the series without Dr. Jackson - the 'humanity' had gone (not to mention the interplay between characters) so I simply stopped watching it. Now that Daniel is returning I shall watch it again and it will, I am sure, return to its position as one of the best science fiction shows ever.

The quality of the show has decline without his presence/character.We've been following the show since inception. That's why we initially got Showtime here in the USA. First I want to thanks the person who create it this website.
Now I can't believe they took away Daniel Jackson from SG1, there is not SG1 without Daniel and now they have Jonas who doesn't fit. "Long live daniel jackson................"The true is SG1 is missing something, that intelectual and very humanitarian side that only Daniel gave to the show.
I hope the ancients bring him back to life. We really miss him.
Just think the show had elements like life. Fire, water, air and land i know i sound weard but just think of one with out the other. Its lacking something. And thats my word

I think that the character of Daniel Jackson is prime to the series (as it was in the movie). The confrontation between him and Jack is very philosofical and interesting, reflecting antagonic ways of seing and interacting with the world.
The serie will not be the same without that confrontation.

It has been a very long and sad year for me, my family and my friends. Meridian threw us all into distress and none of us could bear to continue watching Stargate SG-1 without Daniel and our team intact. We watched Abyss and were startlingly reminded of what we had lost! The news that Michael is bringing Daniel back to us and to the team was unexpected news that absolutely made our year!!! I will be front row, center, with my family and my friends to watch the remaining season 6 episodes that include Daniel and for the entire of Season Seven!
I want to take this opportunity to thank Michael Shanks for returning to Stargate SG-1 full-time and not only returning Daniel to his rightful place but completing our favorite team once again. I also want to thank Bonnie Hammer and SciFi for taking the fan reaction and wishes seriously and supporting the direction that the majority of the fans wished to see. You saw that we wanted Daniel and our team intact. You gave it to us! Thank you! You won't be sorry!
Thank you to whoever at MGM and Bridge Studios played a role in making Season 7, with Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Chris Judge, Don S. Davis and Teryl Rothery, as well as all the wonderful supporting characters, present and accounted for a reality.
I am definitely a "Happy Camper", as are my family and friends, now that we can look forward to a 7th season and a return to our beloved "Classic" Stargate SG-1!

Dear Michael,
A very very big THANKYOU from the bottom of my heart that you have agreed to come back on the show. It cant be easy to decide to take a backward step after all that has been said this year. Rest assured that a LOT of people all over the world are very happy now. You only have to read this site to know that. You have been so badly missed. We tried to watch SG1 without you, but couldnt and gave up after The Other Guys. Although we knew already that Daniel was the heart and soul of stargate , it wasnt until he was really gone, that the heart really did go out of it.
You have got a talent that is quite special.
Looking forward to seeing Daniel back where he should be. Just make sure that the stories dont put you in the background propping up the wall again. Looking forward to the chemistry that shines out of your performances, the Jack/ Daniel humour, more team interaction ( can be antagonistic as long as it is resolved), more moral dilemmas, just MORE with Daniel back. Excited, pissy, awed, enthusiastic, jumping up and down with excitement Daniel. Anhropologist, archeologist, linguist Daniel, goes on and on and on Daniel, 'son', brother, friend Daniel; moralist, our conscinece, 'is there another way' Daniel. Welcome back.

Dear MichaelThis is just a quick "Welcome Back" message, to thank you for being willing to return to Stargate. You were much missed. If you doubt that, all you need to do is take a look around the internet - the Stargate fandom has exploded into life once again with the announcement of your return. You've made many, many thousands of people world-wide very happy.
Thank you.

Having just watched Abyss tonight I realise just what was missing from Stargate. The passionate, brilliant performances of Michael Shanks. He brings out the best in people he shares the screen with. Michael, thank you for the passion, the empathy, the feeling you brought to Daniel Jackson and by extension the happiness you have brought to so many fans. I am so glad you are coming back to Stargate, but I am equally glad that you have had so many interesting and exciting projects on the go.
Once again, thank you. Looking forward to seeing you in Sydney very soon.

Dear Michael Shanks,
i just want you to know that stargate is an awesome show and has stretched its influence across the entire world. i don't know if you have had a look at the save daniel jackson site but you leaving the show has had an explosive effect on the world. people all over the world are expressing their feelings, pain at losing daniel, anger towards the producers and admiration of you and all the other actors on the show. Meridian was only screened last night in Australia and it had a devestating effect. four freinds and i joined together for moral support and watched the farwell. i can't explain the dire effects it had on us all, there were hysterical tears on many behalfs. i was crying even before the beginning credits. we have been avid fans of stargate for a very long time and spend hours of our spare time watching videos and dvds, the joy, heartache and excitement it can create is astronomical. we spend hours on end searching the internet for fans to share our feelings with and sdj site has been the perfect place to express these emotions.
i just want you to know that even if you don't return, as much as we want you to, we have been inspired by daniel's diplomacy, knowledge, courage and compassion. meridian was a tragic end but it only perpetuated his noble character. you too have been an inspiration and i hope that you will return as stargate wont be the same without you. stand up to the directors there are people all over the world who have, are and will support your return.
faithfully Bec Hooton.Becca Hooton <rhoo3112@mail.usyd.edu.au>

Particularly moved by your portrayal of mad-person (no non-p.c. language intended...) in "Legacy", screened last weekend as a re-run in UK, on Sky-One channel in the UK. Keen to find out what you're up to these days (I'll have another look on the Web. Only read a few of the other messages on this web-site and so I'm addressing you 'in the second person', as other folk have done (don't know if you read this site). Don't think I've seen Season-5, although there was one episode I watched when Daniel Jackson was like a 'higher presence' i.e. ghost, so I'm waiting to see an episode when Jackson evolves into a higher plane of existence. Actually I've got more in common with Carter as a character, being a female research scientist (not yet "Dr"), but I liked your Jackson character's sincerity and absent-minded intellectualism and willingness to communicate with whoever (or whatever) turned up, along the lines of portraying someone non-judgmental. I'm curious to know if you got fed-up with the spectacles your character wore (not very trendy, huh?) or the hairstyle (unlike O'Neill's short choppy look, although in later episodes you did get a cropped hair-do thing going on). Could be as straightforward as getting weary with the number of hours on-set I believe gets done; I read something about the X-files which involves 16hr days. I bet after that amount of time day-in, day-out, you forget what 'real' world's about. Well, just to let you know that people like me in the so-called real world appreciate your work, and hope to see you back on the screen soon. Yours Sincerely, ShianMs Shian Miller <shian.miller@ntlworld.com>

Dear MichaelJust a short note to let you know of my continued support for any choices you may make in your career. Although I very much want to see you back in Stargate, I will understand if they make the second approach too late (I am looking forward to 'Abyss', 10 minutes of Daniel and Jack is worth more than all the flooding motherships in the Galaxy) as I know you have been very busy since you left the show. I will also understand if you don't like the scripts as I think your vision of Daniel is one which a lot of us share. Thank you so much for giving us Daniel and I look forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Dear Michael,I'd like to express a deep appreciation of your incredible skills as an actor and salute you for the kind, compassionate, complex, and brilliant character you molded, created, and made your own. Daniel Jackson is a Very Good Man who can inspire people and speak directly to the heart of humanity. You have created a multi-dimensional archetypal hero which is not something just anyone can do.
Just look the multitudes of voices and the outcry raised in protest over the death of the character of Daniel and the shabby way that you, personally, have been treated. I am proud to number myself among your admirers and I will be cheering when the executives realize the enormity of their error, resurrect Daniel as a permanent ongoing character in the Stargate exploration team, and bring back the incredibly talented man who gives him life. (With suitable bonus pay for the aggravation, I would hope.)
I will be watching Stargate SG-1 when the lost one has been found and the Team is once more complete. Jack, Sam, and Teal'c need their Daniel and so do we. In any event, you have acquired another permanent fan no matter where you go.
Warmly,
Dawn

Dear Michael,
I know this sounds a bit odd, but Daniel really changed my life.
The way he acted, the things he said - they made me think.
Daniel was the conscience of the team, the one who always encouraged them to take the right way.
Daniel and Jack, they are like Ying and Yang. They need each other and I think without Daniel, Jack isn't really himself.
('I know Daniel, sometimes it sounds like I don't believe you, but I believe in you!')Oh my god. I'm sitting here and I'm crying because it just doesn't feel right. I'm not easily moved to tears. I hope you know how much we'll miss Daniel, you Michael, because no-one is able to replace him.
He's so lovely, intelligent, cute, passionate, supporting - and the little flaws make him perfect.
Yeah, perfect. That's the right word.
We love you Michael, you know it. We'll always be there, behind you, and we'll always support your work.
I hope you are happy now.
WE MISS YOU!!! - We always will.
The family's broken.
Thanks for the things you changed in my life. Thanks for the moments of the show, when you made us all feeling like a part of it, when you showed how human they are.
Thank you.

I watch the show in syndication, so I am two seasons behind. I am very disappointed to hear that Michael Shanks has left the show. Contrary to TPTB, Dr. Daniel Jackson is an essential member of the SG-1 team. I'm sure that the show has taken a more military turn, but that doesn't obscure the fact that Jackson is the only one with enough experience and knowledge to understand the intricate Gou'ald race. Don't forget, he has a vindetta against Apophis for his wife Sha're. Jackson is the only member qualified to at least be diplomatic and really represent the people of Earth without any Military background. It would just be WRONG to keep him as wallpaper due to the fact that Jackson is one of the ORIGINAL team members(in the movie Stargate). He was there a long time before Carter or Teal'c even entered into the picture. Laree Jackson <laree2000@stargatesg-1.com>

I was very sad and disappointed in StarGate when they killed off Daniel. All of the original cast is so crucial to make the show a continuing success. I look forward to Stargate each week more than any show on TV. Now it looks as if my favorite show will soon be history. Don't the fans count? You're making a VERY BIG MISTAKE to go on with Michael Shanks.
Richard, Amanda & Christopher, you are all great too-so please make them bring Michael back as Daniel.

After watching "Meridian"--should be renamed The Epsiode That Killed A Series"--I've been wandering around in a daze all week, crying, "They've killed Daniel!" We're grieving for you, Mr. Shanks, but we know you'll be a shining star whether through the Stargate or something entirely different. Thanks for giving so much of yourself to us all.Cassie <cassiek@hotmail.com>

Dear Michael, I have spent the weekend reeling from "Meridian." It is unbelievable how Daniel's passing was rushed through with no time to mourn. I can not believe the callous attitude of General Hammond, but it evidently mirrors the same attitude of "TPTB." There was no time given to acknowledge Daniel's accomplishments, no memorial service! Michael, even when the action was not centered on Daniel, it was he who always saved the day and found the moral solution. I do not know how I will cope without my weekly Daniel fix. As Teal'c said, "I have lost one of my greatest friends!" Mary Powers <maryppowers@hotmail.com>

Dear Michael,
Like many people posting here, I have never felt the need to write to an actor before.I want to tell you that you have a special talent which MGM /TPTB clearly havent recognised, although rest assured lots of people have. Your acting skills and ability to use words, intonation, and pauses to convey emotion is a very rare gift.
Scenes that will stay with me forever- speaking Ancient Egyptian at Shar'es funeral; the white room scene in Legacy; the balcony scene in The Light; talking to the UNAS , talking to yourself in Crystal skull and many many more.
MOST memorable for me - Legacy, Need, Torment of Tantalus, The First Ones, Maternal Instinct, Crystal skull, The Light, Forever and a day, Secrets, Beast of Burden, Absolute Power and lots lots more.
These were all complex roles, dealing with raw emotions and complex issues.
Whatever you have been told, YOU touched our hearts, Daniel was the main character in SG1 and YOU were the star.
Yes we liked Jack, but we LOVED Daniel. We liked the team together but Daniel was its heart and soul.
I will watch Abyss and hope that after the fan backlash from Meridian in the USA ( we grieved in UK several months ago), that you will be offered and want to accept several more scripts, AND the movie and the spinoff.
I will understand completely though if you are spreading your wings too much and enjoying real challenges elsewhere.
The main thing is that you do what is best for you.
I will follow your career - the Internet is a wonderful thing.
I dont expect to ever hear other than the politically incorrect version of what happened but you did really well to hang on to your sense of what was right.
The main thing is that lots of fans felt the same way you did about the change in direction after season 3 and we kept wondering what was going on.
We tried to tell TPTB that they were getting it wrong, then tried to tell them to write for you in season 6,but with not much success.
Looking forward to seeing you act your socks off in Abyss, but ever hopeful for more.
I feel we have lost the battle now or perhaps we never could win.
We'll be watching for you. Carole

Michael,
I have never, ever written to a star. Yet, my family and I are saddened by your departure from Stargate SG1. You have created such a special character that is well loved and respected. A character that my teenage boys can look to with respect. I know that all series end, and this one will, if you do not return. It's just so sad to have to say goodbye. It has been a wonderful 5 years and you will be sorely missed. Hope and pray you return to the show, but best of luck in all your pursuits. Our family will be looking for you in future productions, whatever they may be. As you can see from all these posts, you are loved. I only hope the producers come to their senses and realize how much they have lost.Lynn Retteen <shekirk@aol.com>

I just want to say that without Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson) the shows ratings are going to drop and eventually the entire original cast will disappear just like Daniel. Thousands of people love him and his character and the producers just can't pull someone away like that and ignore the people. The show will never be the same because Daniel made the show lively and spirited. Without him the show will be less interesting and more dull.Kyle <Eaglefighter843@aol.com>

Check it out: Someone paid $260 for a photo of you that was once stapled to your resume. :) It’s a very nice photo. Alas, I was outbid.
So they think they can replace you with any "handsome hunk" and we'll be happy, huh? Looks to me like there aren't a lot of actors out there with fans willing to pay $260 for a photo of them.
Just wanted to share.

hey this really sucks i loved the daniel character and now it is like what the fans of the show want doesn’t matter i know the new season is spose to air in june or something but i think they shoud stop filming and restart and take into account fans comments about haveing daniel in the show i am sorry but if they don’t i just don’t see the point of a new season at all it makes no sence to have the same characters for 5 season then to switch that is the only reason why i no longer watch buffy the vampire slayer they got rid of a main character in season 6 and now the show is just plain dumb. michael i would really lover to see you in more than just one ep ok i might watch the new season if i heard that you were in at least 5-7 episodes out of the 22 but only 1 doesn’t do it for me of course ill watch that ep but i won’t watch any of the others i am boycotting the new season just because your not in it no offence to the new guys that is trying to take ur place it just won’t work u have the sg-1 experince i do underestand why you did decide to leave but i wish that you would of stuck with it thru one more season but i mostly blame brad who has his head up his u know what hehehehe( i think he had a stick and his thumb up there to adn he thinks that he is gods gift well he is NOT!!!) so if you wanted all the fans to watch the 6th season well i really don’t want to the daniel character was my favorit now how can i watch it. it makes me to sad when i know that the daniel character won’t be there. i have everyepisode aired to date and i really don’t think ill be getting season 6 my heart just in not in it anymore and here shortly when i get my editing tools i think i am going to make a tribute to you and ur work on the show so every one keep an eye out Deisrae <evalewis021@msn.com>

I like very much Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Stargate won´t be the same without him. I don´t believe that I will see the serie without him, because the team SG1 will be broken. I don´t like this. It will be a sad loss to see michael go, he gave so much to stargate like all the others, each character is needed and essential for the sg1 team to continue & the writers need to do something special to cover up this mistake. I think it’s tragic that they have taken out of SG1 the most realistic, spunkiest, down to earth guy-Dr Jackson(Michael Shanks). He gave the show so much imput that I believe series 6 will be like a balloon bursting-totally deflated and empty.Luckily I have in my possession all of the dvds available,so I can look at Shanksybabe any time I so wish!!!!Seriously though I think the producers need a good kick up the butt(as you fine americans would say)they really have stirred up a hornets nest by getting rid of an important member of the team.Who,may I ask will teach them the various languages as they enter new worlds, give them guidance as to how they should interpret different cultures.WHO will tell the history of a certain culture or the ancient gods. NO-ONE!!!because they have not got Dr Daniel Jackson anymore. What a waste of such a heart warming character, how can they dismiss him like this.At the end of the day,he was the backbone of Stargate SG1.I will miss him and Michael. If only us BRITISH could have such a sensual smoulderingly heart pulling handsome actor like Michael, but typical they always seem to come from the USA or CANADA.Anyway I will finish by saying that I am honoured to be a fan of Michaels and will do my utmost to support him in whatever he does. It’s not goodbye or farewell, it’s ’au-revoir’.Take care Michael and to your millions of fans-keep supporting,we will win the fight to the bitter end.Love Paula(sg1 user Id Shanksybabe)XXXXXXXXXpaula wilson <thewilsons4@ntlworld.com>

Hi, Mr. Shanks, ( I don’t think that we should call him anything else, after all he may be "ours" but we don’t know him on a one to one basis enough to call him Michael) has made all our lives a lot brighter by giving us Daniel Jackson and personally I didn’t want to see him go. Stargate Sg-1 losing Dr. Jackson is losing a vital part of the perfect balance they all had. I know Mr. Shanks will and has went on to do better things, with a talent such as his the world is his oyster! I hope he flourishes to the greatest extent in his acting and directoral career and gives us even more excuses to admire his work.SHELLEY <femaledragon2@hotmail.com>

Dear Mr Shanks,Hi, you probably don’t hear much from your fans here in Australia, you have fans here of all ages (i am only 14)I just found out that you left the show and your character died. Here we’ve hardly seen much of season 5 because other shows like Heartbeat keep on taking Stargate SG-1 over. I am very upset that you were treated that way and no-one would try and keep you there. I doubt that anyone will watch the show without daniel Jackson because he touched our hearts from the very first episode. He cannot be replaced by anybody....you cannot be replaced by anybody. Dear Michael Shanks:First of all thank you for having the courage to be true to yourself and your craft. A real actor cares about their character because they knows the audience is paying attention and is investing a certain amount of their time and themselves in that character as well. You, sir are a REAL actor and not having you there to bring life to Daniel Jackson is most difinately the show’s loss.
As I read your interviews, I can tell that you are also gaining a deeper understanding of it being the fans loss as well. However, as much as I would be one of the first ones to want to see you back there, not at the cost of hurting you. If they work it out and make it better, go back if not..then move forward and I as an admirer of your work will move forward with you.
Please don’t feel bad that if I chose not to watch the 6th season that you somehow hurt the others who are still there. You didn’t. The higher ups who are discarding us as viewers did that. I still admire and respect AT, CJ, DSD, TR and RDA. And with special respect to AT and TR for being such amazing ladies and making their characters amazing too. And this Teal’c as a traitor nonsense HAS me really annoyed at the disrespect it shows towards the character, CJ and his fans as well.
Thanks for speaking out and being true to yourself. I only want to add two more things:
1. Some have critized you for not talking about your child. Funny but this protecting of her privacy by yourself as her father is one of the things I have admired about you the most. Children of celebs runs such a high risk of living life in a fishbowl as it is without their parents contributing to bringing that type of stress into their young lives. We know you are proud of her and love her with all your heart. Bless you for taking such good care of her!
2. Reading the interviews, it seems a little obvious that you really didn’t know how much and how well you and your characeter were liked among fandom. I also understand what you were saying about American viewers and the show in syndication. However, Michael please don’t forget how many of us there are here in USA like myself who have been there eery friday night at 10pm sharp to watch SG1 on Showtime since day one episode one. So hey, I hope maybe you can make a little time to set up for us to come up and say HI in person and tell you what a great job you did:)
Ok that’s it. Take care, good luck and success to you.
Respectfully,
Marla

For once why dont the guys who make the Sc-Fi T.V shows like
stargate and other shows keep the cast.
There are so many shows around that break the cast and the show fails..fans wont realy watch it... if you know what i mean...
If not they could host a look alike show to pick the next D jackson..and let the public pick...thanks Morpn a big fan

Hey, you Go Boy!I’d downloaded "Summit" off the Internet, but had never mustered up interest in watching it--probably a bad sign in and of itself--so I saw it for the first time during the Showtime broadcast Friday, and let me just say... OH. MY. GOD!!!!
Can I be perfectly blunt? (Can I NOT be perfectly blunt? I don’t know, this is me we’re talking about...) The completely selfish part of me wants Daniel back, but I never, EVER want you to waste your time on a script that bad ever again. My desire for no more "Summit"s outweighs my Daniel-longings. Trust me. Never accept a script that bad thinking that’s what we want. Please. I mean, I don’t really think you WOULD, but if you were considering it, DON’T.
I can’t BELIEVE that script was EVER produced. It’s amazing proof that you can take four good actors and combine them with bad plot, bad characterization, bad dialog, bad costumes, and bad sets and create such a truly unwatchable hour of television.
You have my sincere condolences on being forced to participate in that unremitting character assassination.

Dear Michael,I wanted to e-mail this letter to you because when I heard about what was going with vour show and how you were being treated was VERY WRONG PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I applaud you wholehardly for bringing this out to the public when you did about what was really going on at MGM. Those "PIGS" at Stargate SG-1 had no right doing what they did.Since this came out it became a huge fire out of control.Instead of fixing the damage they caused to you personlly how your character Daniel was thrown in the background and a great program like Stargate was forever destoryed it all started because of them. You had soo much to offer that show you still do as an actor. When I saw your role last year on ANDROMEDA I was blown away by your preformance. Your portyal of Daniel Jackson will always standout as being my favorite SG-1 character. You are a "very" talented young actor that the fans myself included have come to love and enjoy and don’t want to lose.As a loyal fan I want to see you and Daniel back where you both belong with SG-1. Michael if you ever get to read this letter I want you to know you have a"LOT OF FANS" who care for you and will continue to fight this unitl the people at MGM fix what they did wrong (1) make the show and characters like it used to be (2)bring you and Daniel back.Your role as Daniel Jackson has and always will be a very important part of Stargate SG-1 now and in the future to come don’t let those "JERK" writers discourage you. You and Daniel can NEVER BE REPLACED in the fans hearts.SANDRA D. Mc.DONALD <DEEM31@WEBTV.NET>

Hello Michael. It was a treat meeting you. I just want to tell you I think you’re a star for doing what you did. That lot needed shaking up and I don’t know if this will be enough but well done for not putting up with it any longer. Don’t let them try to bully you or manipulate you into coming back, if they get enough sense to realise that getting you back is what they need to do. I don’t know what their problem is I really don’t. Good luck love and best wishes. You show that lot what they’ve lost and we’ll be cheering you on I’m sure. As for this rubbish about Daniel not being popular well they were telling you a pack of lies. You are the young lord of the internet and don’t let them tell you otherwise. Dear Michael Shanks,I have some advice for you. Do NOT return to the show. Stay away from these people. They have destroyed the series and the characters and their relationships. They have ignored you and ignored their audience who have been telling them where they are going wrong for 2 years. You owe them nothing. You gave them everything you could be expected to. Do not feel you owe them any loyalty. They are destructive manipulators and I hope you will not allow them the opportunity to hurt Daniel or yourself ever again. I wish you happiness and success and please know how very grateful I am to you for making Daniel so special.

Being a sci fi fan, I hate to see a show lose any part of what made it so good. That being said, Michael Shanks will be missed for his potrayal of Daniel Jackson. I find it absurd that StarGate feels the need to become more military and less exploratory. In light of that the writers, producers, and directors are limiting themselves to story lines. The basis of Stargate was not a military operation. That would be as if to say the Space Shuttle is a military operation. It may be supported by the military, but it is not a military operation. Anyway, good luck in future.

Willow Grove, Michigan - Sunday, March 10, 2002, 10:24 AM
Let’s get right down to the bottom line. My best guess is RD isn’t to happy with Michael Shanks success with the Daniel Jackson character. Forget the monetary issues, forget the story line issues and etc. It boils down to actor success and ego. Daniel Jackson turned out to have a huge following. No surprise there. The character is intelligent, likeable, vulerable, and a good guy. I don’t suppose anyone remembers that on Happy Days, Fonzie’s character stole the show, but also kept the show going. Spock on Star Trek was the perfect foil for Kirk. And Spock ended up having the larger fowllowing. To this day there are alot of sci fi fans who are more Spock fans, than Kirk.
I think "they" will regret the decision in the end. I know their fans already regret it.
Mr. Shanks, thank you for the entertainment you provided to me and my family. Your quality of work far surpassed that of some of your co-workers. I hope you enjoy great success wherever you go and whatever you do!

Michael, I can’t put into words my deep disappoinment in the demise of the Daniel Jackson character. I had thought SG1 was about exploration. I thought going thru the Stargate was to determine the other cultures out there. How can we interpert other cultures without an expert to guide us? If as I have heard this is going to be more of a military mission, then I can go back and watch John Wayne was movies!Best of luck to you and yours. AND pity Stargate for their loss.

’Daniel Jackson made this place’ Those were the words spoken by Colonel O’Neill, in FIRE AND WATER, and it is so true of not only Daniel, but Michael.
Michael Shanks made Daniel Jackson come alive.
The role that James Spader created, certainly became Michael’s and no one can denie that, though many have tried.
Michael you and yes the character of Daniel, has been a great influence in my life, what started out as a genuine interest in archaeology/Egyptology has now become permanate. I am going for my Phd, things I never would have had the courage to do years ago, I can and now doing.
It was a great end to a very bad year, when I finally met up with you at the ’Evening with’ and at Wolf, for that I thank you with all my heart.
We here on this board, and many other Michael Shanks boards, are behind you 190% ok make that 200%, lets not quibble here.
The love and friendship that you have inspired in many many people, is amazing, I have met many new and wonderful friends through, not only Stargate but through the mutual respect and caring of you and your clubs. You will be missed, and boy didn’t it show at Wolf, a total standing ovation, not once but twice.
You are a man who is not afraid to show his emotions, to tell the truth, and for that I admire and respect you. Not all men are or can be like that.
You had the courage to stand up to what you beleive in, to stand and speak out for what you think and believe is right, kudos to you babe..Don’t let anyone take that away from you.
For years now we have been saying ’GIVE DANNY SOMETHING TO DO’ ’The guy is an archaeologist’ but all cries went unheard. I will give season 6 a chance, the best episode is going to be THE ABYSS, I guess, but not one to give up easily, as friends will tell you, we will continue to love and support Daniel, whether in spirit or human form.
I hope that again we can get to meet, and have longer to chat. But in the meantime, hope you loved the Bushmills, more to come..
Once again, thanks you for 5 brilliant years, and as the video said, Daniel you will be missed, and double that for you honey.
Michael never, Never give up hope. We are there, always.
Here’s to the future, whatever it may consist of.
Never shy away from things, if something is worth saving or doing, then go to it. That’s something that I have learnt over the past year, especially when you have friends around you that care, and honey we do. We might not always show it at times, but the support and love and affection is always there.
Ok, enough rambling, I am now going..3 essays to finish before end of May..Oh where is Danny boy when you need him.
As always..
Hugs and love esp to Tatiana and Lexa.

I was shocked and disappointed to hear that Michael Shanks was leaving Stargate SG-1. While his final episode, Meridian, was a spectacular piece of writing and acting, I still feel that he should never have felt the need to leave. Daniel Jackson is the true reason the Stargate Program got started, if it wasn’t for him, the translations may never have been translated.
The recent move into NID storylines has taken away a lot of the magic of SG-1, I love the show, but it would be nice to see a return to the exploration and adventure and less of the conspiracy theories. Don’t let SG-1 suffer the same fate as The X Files.
Michael Shanks is Daniel Jackson and no-onew can replace Daniel, especially not Corin "Corky" Nemec.

In my opinion Daniel Jackson is the tie that binds. The character brings intelligence, and mystery to the show The other characters are basically military, which after awhile become boring............. I too was totally shocked when I realised Daniel Jackson was ’gone’. How could they deprive us of one of the pivotal characters in the series ? I have to admit, watching Stargate won’t be quite so special now !

Michael-I have watched Stargate SG1 from the beginning. I loved the movie! Without the character of Jackson, the team lost it's closeness-bond-the flow-the"connection". The show now does not have the ring of truth it had. Dr. Jackson was the reason the military was able to go through the Stargate. And with a degree in Ancient Civilization, you would not be able to put the average military person on an archaeology dig and have them-"presto!" see the big picture. Jackson brings that to the show. He is the non-military person-that has to become somewhat military to adapt. But he is the character that holds the thread of humanity. Always in awe and respect of the past cultures and civilizations as well as the future. This, for me is one of the most important reasons for Jackson. He holds different ideas and values about the things he is confronted with. So, far me-the "new dude" can go-so that you may return. But, whatever the result will be-I wish you the best in all that the future holds. Martha Martha smith <sophiebelle@earthlink.net>

Hi Michael,
I wish you the best in all future endeavours that you embark upon. I am certain that you will shine in the future as you have shine so bright in Stargate. I am surprise that the people from MGM would have let yo go and not let your character developed, as he should. I love the movie 'StarGate' and to me, you and Mr. Anderson are what made Stargate the way it is now. I am not taking anything away from Ms Tappig or Mr Judge but as one fan has said, you and Anderson are the ying'yang of the show. The balance in an otherwise chaotic and turbulence world.
You had a big shoe to fill in the role that was made regal by Mr Spader and comparing fire to flame, you continued the legacy of Mr Spader and enriched the character far beyond expectation.
I wish to thank you for giving us your best and in appreciation, we will dearly support any and all path that you choose for yourself in the future.Arthur.

Michael,Here in Australia, it feels strange knowing that your character is leaving the show. For me, that will not happen for another few weeks. But after reading some of your latest interviews, I want to wish you the best of luck for your future projects.
I would like to know what sort of problems you originally had when trying to develop the scientific side of Daniel Jackson. Although personally, I could probably guess at a few. I am studying a Bachelor of Social Science here at James Cook University, with my major in Archaeology. Speaking of which, I'd better finish here or I'll be late for my lecture.
Once again, best of luck. Hope to see you sometime in the future - whether on Stargate, another show or even touring here in Australia.

So i have never seen an episode in which there isn't Michael shanks but i think that it must be too different . There will neither the philosophic spirit of michael nor his communication spirit. Who will do the right choice and take the decisions which can change the diplomatic relations between the planets which are linked by the stargate ??????? Stargate sg-1 whihout michael shanks is like startrek without leonard nimoy (spok) !!! or X-files whithout gillian anderson(scully)!!!! or friends whithout courteney cox(monica)!!!

Hello
Here in Germany «Stargate SG-1» is late in it's 5th season officially. However, I managed to watch the first 7 episodes of 6th season so far using other means than the local tv station. To sum it up: I AM SAD! I'm upset for weeks now. You (the producers of the show) even made my cry. I don't like that. First of all, I'm sad to see Michael Shanks leaving the show and with him my most favourite character. I'm stonedead certain, you will see a lot more of my fellow countrymen being cross with TPTB once «Meridian» has been aired in Germany for the first time in September 2002. Stargate is (or better: was) very popular over here - as it is in many areas of Western Europe actually. And why is that?
I somehow doubt it is because of the NID/conspiracy episodes or the war with the Goa'uld story arc and the ever increasing use of special effects. Nor was the introduction of gorgeous young ladies like the «Anise» character of any incentive to tune in. Don't get me wrong - my eyes were pleased but if I wanted to see pretty women I'd turn to other places; no offence intended. Just for the record: I'm an affluent young male and therefore well within the targeting group for the advertising industry.
In the beginning I watched the show because I liked the way how the producers/writers handled the transition from the movie to the new series. The Daniel Jackson character was the most likeable in the movie and soon I found myself enchanted with his portrayal by Michael Shanks. RDA was doing fine too but I must admit having had at first doubts about the Sam Carter character. However, these doubts vanished in season 3. Teal'c is a good and honest chap. I would trust him with my life but somehow he isn't going to make me watch the series.
Originally, I tuned in because I knew RDA and Don Davis (never heard or seen any of the other actors before). Furthermore I was intrigued by the show's approach. Using the Stargate to seek out new life and new civilisations in present day circumstances was an idea I was genuinely interested in. In Star Trek, Jean-Luc Picard was my favourite before he changed important parts of his personality with his appearance on the big screen.
I didn't mind, Stargate was US-centered despite its meaning for the whole planet although I wished TPTB would recognize one day the tens of millions of viewers in Europe. There was a charming and educated fellow in the show who spoke his mind when ethics, moral issues and sometimes even basic human rights were in danger of being sacrified for no convincing reason by the military or political leaders respectively.
With Daniel Jackson I could easily identify myself. Over time, when the exploration issue became less and less important I've drawn joy from the writers efforts to develop the four main characters. In over 100 episodes there is a good chance for writers to do so. And they did. SG-1 managed to become part of the family. Of all the possible interactions between the main characters I was most intrigued by the Jack/Daniel bantering.
For me there was nothing improper the way the writers handled the issue. On the contrary, the more militaristic and showmanshiplike the series became after «Small Victories», the more I appreciated the humour shown in the relationships between Jack and his teammates. That is what kept me watching. With Daniel Jackson gone the show has lost it's appeal to me.
When I first learned Mr Shanks was leaving the show I couldn't believe myself I was reacting so emotionally. I tried to calm myself down with the notion that most probably the actor has nothing in common with the character he is portraying. I still think that is utterly true. However, Michael Shanks triggered something and it isn't only because of his good looks. His acting helped a lot to get me growing fond of Daniel Jackson, in fact watching every scene with him in a state of high excitement. That doesn't happen very often with other actors. Other good looking hunks (e.g. Enterprises Ensign Mayweather or Stargates Jonas Quinn for that matter) stand no chance of achieving the same effect so it must be something else.
Perhaps it is the actor after all. I've read quite a number of reports concerning Michael Shanks appearances at conventions in Europe earlier this year. He seems a nice person.
I also read interviews with him as well as with TPTB. My conclusion is that I would probably have done the same as Michael Shanks. Leaving the show was the right thing to do for him. I wish him every luck in the world for his future career.
I would be most happy should he get a leading role in another successful tv series that will make its way to European small screens. Independend Canadian TV-films are not likely to fulfill this wish.
BTW, does anyone know how to contact Michael Shanks or his agent via mail?
Cheerio and Lots of Love
Tristan
PS: I hope it wasn't a ghastly thing to read through this letter. Imagine I would have written it in German. ;))

Micheal, up until ABYSS aired I was ready to throw in the towel on watching SG1-but your appearance gave me hope that the show most fans came to know and love was still there-buried in some bad plot decisions, but still evident-because the spark was back. It gave everyone hope that what we the fans cherish the most about SG1 was still there-we just need to convine the powers that be of that. Write, call, email-get the voices heard! Micheal, I just want you to know that your character touched my
heart. Many times :). And you played Daniel with such
realism and intensity, bringing out the best in him every
time. His additude towards life and the people in his life
really makes you want to be a little bit like him. The way
he's so passionate and caring about everything.
And (no offence to Mr. Anderson) to me, Daniel was the main
character. And from the reaction of all of your fans, I
think they feel that way too. It was their mistake to let
you walk away. They should have locked every door in sight!
;} So, I guess, thank you.
Hope to see you in the movie and on many (MANY) more SG-1

Besides that, we'll be watching for you in other films! The Kallio Family

Dear Michael, I like other viewers have only had the pleasure
of watching you for the first four seasons. You absolute brilliance
in portraying, a character so complex continues to amaze me. I
especially enjoyed scenes where you needed to reach down and
pull out a character that was menacing or crazy. I too was equally shocked to hear that your creative differences
with the producers could not be overcome. The series will not
be the same without you. You character represented the
compassionate and intellect of the team. One I am sure
cannot be replaced.
I hope that even if they cannot bring you back to for guest
shots, that you have another opportunity to act with Richard
Dean Anderson. Your chemistry together would make for another
great drama/action series.
Good luck with your other projects! I look forward to reading
your reviews.
Sincerely,
Shelley

Michael,I just want to thank you so much for a true and heartfelt performance of an anthropologist and human being. Being an anthropology major at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, it was very exciting for me to tune in to Showtime every Friday nite and see you out there living my dream.
I've always felt a kinship to the character of Daniel Jackson for many reasons (never really knowing my real parents, thirst for knowledge, bad love life, etc) and when I heard that he was being 'extradited'to the great beyond I was so completely heartbroken that I actually cried. I felt silly about it at first, but really, it seems like a part of me has died along with Daniel Jackson. It's strange how a television show can touch your heart, even when it is sometimes cheesey and cliche (not your acting, of course).
However, I totally respect your decision to leave while you could still salvage your diginity, and from what I hear, you have been quite busy. I think that's wonderful, as well as your guest appearances on the new incarnation of SG1 on the Sci-Fi channel. I anticipate the day when you land that 'plum movie role' and the rest of the world knows your name.
A devoted fan with a silly school-girl crush,

Dear Michael,
I was heartbroken when I heard how you were treated by MGM. Their loss of a excellent actor is there problem. We your true fans will always support you and your work.
I have been a fan of Stargate since the film and the character of Daniel Jackson was my favourite. James Spader was good but you blew him out of the water, MGM never seem to know a good thing when they see it and to let your character slip into the background was just wrong. I love the other actors esp. Amanda (as we are both from Essex.. lol) but you were the heart and soul of the whole show.
Thank you for the past few years of enjoyment you have given to me, to us all and we look forward to upcoming projects.
All my love and support Lisa Cooper

Dear Mr. Shanks,You're a superb actor and SG-1/MGM has truly lost a valuable asset to their team. I miss seeing your wonderful protrayal of Dr. Jackson and I hope you can return to the series.
I wish you the best of luck and look forward to catching you in your many future roles.

Mr. Shanks & MGMLike many of your Stargate fans, my husband and I were resigned to watch the episodes on FOX because we did not have Showtime. However, we do have the Sci-fi channel and we watched the Season 6 episode 1 (part one) last night.
Imagine my dismay to discover that Jackson was gone. I found this website just today and am shocked that a Production House (MGM) would not listen to their fans in this regard: Jackson is the heart of the show.
My husband and I enjoy the Daniel character, and it was watching him grow from the movie that us fans of the series. It is a shame, (but we respect Shanks' decisions) that Jackson is gone.
I hope that MGM will, for once, listen to the viewers (for without viewers, the show does not go on) and re-instate Jackson.
Or does MGM write the show for themselves?
Bring Jackson back! He is the heart of Stargate.
Sincerely,
Christine and Michael

Mr. Shanks:I do not have access to cable, and only one television
channel. The local station has only shown the episodes
for the first four seasons of Stargate, and it is only
just now that I have learned what has happened to your
character. One of the things that made SG-1 so terrific
was how the characters interacted with each other. Watch-
ing them every day was somehow comforting, because they
were a TEAM, and even though each personality was vastly
different from the others, they always blended their dis-
parate skills and backgrounds together for the sake of
that team. To me, this is the cornerstone of the show.
Dr. Jackson's knowledge of where we came from, coupled with
his great humanity and high moral standards, is as in-
dispensable as Maj. Carter's scientific brilliance and com-
passion. As indispensable as T'elc's stoicism and rigid
code of honour. As indispensable as Col. O'Neill's dry
wit and Ludditism. Even if I never get to see the rest of
the episodes, I know they will be severely diminished if Dr.
Jackson doesn't get to return...

I don't have cable so I'm 2 years behind. I'm very disappointed in hearing that Mr. Shanks will be leaving the show. All I am reading is that they killed him off. I will be so sadden to see that episode.Stargate SG1 is the team of the SG1. You need the interaction between the original crew. The show will not be the same at all without him. His many diverse charaters on the show are excellent.
I currently don't enjoy the shows as much if Dr. Jackson isn't on the show.
Please help them to some how change their minds on Dr. Jackson. We need Michael Shanks on the show for it to be complete.

Dear Mr. Shanks--I live in Chicago and have been dreading the episode "Meridian" for months now, even since I learned that you were leaving the series. But, like a glutton for punishment, I tuned in and watched it not once, but TWICE. I have been feeling incredibly depressed all week, because I know that next Friday night, instead of tuning in to my weekly dose of wonderful escapism (with a great cast of characters who actually stimulated my brain--I'm 29, a teacher, and consider myself partially intelligent, so it's nice to find the rare show that caters to my thirst for knowledge, much like your Daniel Jackson), I will instead be watching a substitute who really did not "wow" me in his acting skills (Corin Nemac) and the rest of the team go on as if Daniel never existed. This is, of course, if I can even tune in to watch. Okay, I'm sure you've heard all this a dozen times, so here's my REAL reason for posting again--your performance in "Meridian." It was so touching, so like the early days of your character, that I couldn't keep the tears from my eyes. Daniel's sense of wonder coming out again, his willingness to go on helping people even in new, scary territory, and of course, the lost little boy behind it all who really needs a home (which used to be SG-1). You're a brilliant actor....you will go far in your career. I hope the Stargate stays open to you a little while longer, but if not, I will look for you in films to come down the line. Keep up the good fight!!!
Sincerely yours,
J.Lynn Jamie Kallio <jlynn1972@hotmail.com>

A few years from now when we think back to SG-1, we are not going to be thinking, Jack, Jonas, Sam and Teal'c. We are going to think Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'c. That is who the team is, and I just can't except the fact that you are trying to replace Daniel. I know it was Michael Shanks decision to leave, but did you really give him any choice.
Believe it or not, I was going to watch season 6, because I believe Brad Wright when he said he was going to bring MS back for 5 or 6 episodes and included him in the movie. Now that I see that so far MS only been approach for one episode, I can't help feeling like I been lied to. Right now the only episode I will watch is Abyss. I can't even stand looking at the picture with Jonas in it, it is just wrong. Please, bring Daniel back with the team, like it use to be in the first 3 seasons, when their was a real strong bond between them.

Michael, my husband and I have been faithful viewers of SG-1 for most of its history. The thought that anyone might consider allowing it to "progress" by eliminating so vital an element as the character of Daniel Jackson has left us both in shock and deeply saddened! Your kind treatment and caring development of the character has proven him to be an essential element of the series. Daniel has grown from an "absent-minded professor" type to a man of great depth and integrity, confident in his knowledge, sure of his vision of the world, but never afraid to approach the universe with a bit of wonder. While his understanding of history, language and anthropology have provided a wellspring of valuable information at the most critical times, he managed to never come across as a “know-it-all”. While his pain and heartache have been deep and lasting, he never allowed himself to remain so jaded that the light of his spirit was extinguished. He has been the historian, the conscience, the heart and the hope of the SG-1 team. I share your dismay at the apparent efforts of the powers at MGM to somehow minimize (and ultimately eliminate) the role. I pray that they will come to realize that pulling so central a thread from the tapestry that is the very soul and vision behind SG-1 can only weaken and diminish the integrity of the entire work. I wish you all good things in whatever the future brings to you and hope that we will see you again soon (even if not as Daniel Jackson). Thank you, again for your fine work and dedication in making that "tapestry" a work of art!BCMott <BCMott@msn.com>

I'm stunned. I've never been to the Stargate SG-1 websites before, but I'm a big fan. After watching tonight's episode, I had to find out if it was really true. Why would they write Daniel Jackson off the show ? Why won't we see the wonderfully talented Michael Shanks anymore ? This is a sad day for SG1 fans. While change happens, Daniel is the soul of SG1. I wish him the best of luck, and hope that the powers that be get "enlightened" and bring Daniel back home to SG1 where he belongs ! Elise Starr <estarr@iisl.com>

Dear Sir,I have mixed feelings about your leaving the cast of Stargate: SG-1. The fan in me feels devastated. The artist in me knows what it’s like to be trapped in amber, and I imagine you’ve been feeling so trapped also.
I have written to TPTB, and just in case you’re still talking to any of them, I thought I’d pass on the suggestion I made. In ’1969’ it was revealed that Cassandra, sometime in the future, had control of time travel. How did the Tau’ri get that? Well, how about it was revealed to Daniel during his Oma days and Daniel now has the power/knowledge to open up a Timegate, as he opened the Stargate before? If the Goa’uld had stumbled on the method of converting a Stargate to a Timegate, and were bent on Tau’ri genocide by invading our past, we’d pretty much need Mother Nature and her chosen avatar, Daniel Jackson, to bail us out, right?
I hope that, should that not be a storyline that pleases or which can give new life to the show and its performers, nevertheless another is found and your place as the embodiment of Dr. Daniel Jackson, linguist extraordinaire and peaceful explorer par excellence, is re-established.
Thank you for the many hours of viewing pleasure you have given to my friends and myself. Ironically, just before the rumour hit the grapevine that you’d be leaving the cast, we’d been ruminating on how much we all preferred the ’team’ episodes the best. SG-1 isn’t a team without Daniel Jackson. It’s just a routine reassignment, to us.
I hope your future holds everything you wish for, and that mine holds Dr. Daniel Jackson back on my screen in new episodes. You can have all the rest of the good stuff -- fame, fortune, etc. -- all I want is Daniel back in his place, and you playing him!

Dear Mr. Shanks,
After reading your comments in the interviews you have given I want to offer my support of your decision. Both you and Doctor Daniel Jackson deserve better than to suffer such shitty treatment. I did notice that Daniel was given less to do other than in "Daniel episodes". Teal’c has been scenery for a while and to see the same happen to Daniel was depressing. If the new writers and those left in charge don’t get what makes the show so popular then they don’t deserve to have you on board. I wish the rest of the cast had walked out, maybe that would have been enough of a wake up call to those in charge.
Good luck. I look forward to seeing you in other shows and movies. If you are offered episodes in Stargate then only accept it if it feels right for you and Daniel, don’t feel you have to do it for the fans.Kev

Mr.Shanks,
I started watching Stargate SG1 because I enjoyed Mr.Anderson’s characterizations. I stayed because of Daniel Jackson. The partnership between characters, the on-screen chemistry was fantastic. Where’s Peter DeLuise when you need him? Anyway, I wish the writers’ had paid attention to your voice and Mr.Anderson could know that, together, you both lifted the show beyond the action genre. Seeing a character scarred by violence learning to care again while a peaceful man learned the cost of peace-well, guess it’s just a T.V. show now. I wish you well, and the rest of the cast as well.
I hope your future roles will expand your gifts and showcase your talent.

Michael (Mr Shanks, whatever:-)), I know you probably won’t see this (I’m too late for the presentation at the "Evening with...") but I would be remiss if I didn’t at least say something.
You might be interested to know your character helped me make my mind up between Education or Linguistics as my major at University (I chose Linguistics, natch). I can’t imagine how great it must be as an actor to know that you and your character have touched others in this way, but it’s truly an indication of how special you both are to us all.
As someone who has known what it’s like to be unhappy in a job, I totally understand why you made the decision you did - I’m not happy you had to make it, but they really didn’t give you much choice. I think I’m going to be among the growing number who won’t be watching season 6 because of the loss of you and your character, and when I think about what’s happened to Daniel I think the Crash Test Dummies said it best when they said "sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him". A character like Daniel comes along once in a lifetime and I think it was you who gave him his humanity and his complexity. I’ll miss both of you.
Love, and all the best for your future endeavours.

We are french people, here in north western part of quebec,so exuse my poor english.I consider the fact that you are not there anymore like unfinished business.I explain myself, you develop a caractere, make a story around him and expect the fans forget everything about the"undevelopped stories we allready have in our head".The writers have good ideas, but have good imagination too,if not we could’t love science-fiction films.Your part of the SG1 was the "good harted man the human part".Carter and have themselve a part of human caracter i talk about, but in these kind of stories between aliens humans,we need a full embassador of "us".In the two startrek and voyager "GENE R.THE GREAT" consider the human part important enough to put it in the captain caracter so!!!
What is going wrong here.Get on the job Michael shake the writers ideas and put yourself back. You represent a "team",like in real life and like in real life we don’t like to lose it.

Dear Mr ShanksIn the beginning when i heard you were leaving, I was told it was your decision. I was disappointed, but willing to accept your need to expand away from Stargate.
After the many interviews and articles I’ve read since, I’ve come to believe you were forced to leave the show.
I can’t say anything different to what every other fan who has posted on this site has said already and what every other fan who hasn’t found their way here yet feels, but after reading the posts, my message simply is:

Mr. Shanks, Micheal ( I call you Micheal because I am sure you are younger than me ) I Have enjoyed SG-1 since its inception. I have enjoyed the character you play, its growth and your portrayal of him. The loss of the Daniel Jackson character is going to leave a huge hole in the show and I truly wonder whether it can be filled and whether the show can carry on after you leave.
I have been a fan of science fiction and had an interest in Egyptology since I was a teenager. This show was such a unique concept, one which filled both those areas of interest for me. To say I will miss you does not express the important part I feel you play in this different and wonderful show.
I will follow you in your career, because you have a future in film and television, if it is what you want. I will miss you, Micheal and I will miss you character.
My best wishes to you and I will continue to hope that you will be back in the 6th season. Since I watch the show on SHO I havent seen the end of the season. I hope there is an opening left open for you return, even if it is only for an occasional episode.
Good Luck to you always

All credit to you, mate, you’ve shown a lot of class. The show’s been in freefall since the end of s3 and you’re the only one who’s had the balls to call them on it. We don’t want to watch bad sci-fi and you obviously didn’t want to act in it. If you do come back make sure they give you script approval. Thanks for 5 years of giving a hundred percent. You’re going to be missed. They should never have tried to make the show without you and they should have listened to what you were trying to tell them. It’s the same stuff we’ve been trying to tell them for the past two years. But I guess the first thing that goes is the hearing when a producer’s got his head wedged up his a**.Good luck and I hope you hook up with Anderson, Judge and Tapping for another show with better writers or back on this show with better writers - just don’t come back to this show while they still have THESE writers.

As an avid fan and follower of the SG-1 series I was in disbelief when watching the Daniel Jackson character written out of the show!! Personally I’m more of an O’Neill fan but the point is that the Daniel and Jack characters are the only two original characters to come straight out of the movie and personally am dreading the sixth series of the show. I can’t personally see how the show can carry on it’s high standards of programming with one of the four integral characters not present. I’d like to hope that the show continues to be as good as it always has but I feel it will have lost some of it’s entertaining value as well as it’s appeal along with this integral character!!Sarah-Jayne Cook <cookiey2k_uk@yahoo.com>

Dear Michael,To quote Daniel Jackson himself ’You did the right thing’. Daniel was the main role in the original film. He was the co-lead role for the first three seasons. He is a huge part of why this show is a success. The character is fascinating, flawed, three-dimensional and irresistible. He gave Stargate its heart, soul, conscience and its voice. He was the wide-eyed wonder, the curiosity, the excitement, the innocence, and latterly he was also the dry wit, the other point of view, the different voice. He was always half of the only truly tragic romance this show has ever produced, the means of communication, and the only character who wanted to travel to visit other words just because he was curious and they were *there*. He was the vital leaven to the military side of the show. He was the friend all the other team members could confide in. He was the only link left to the film as the show moved further and further away from its original premise. By the time S5 came along he was also the only reason I still watched.
You deserve better than MGM have treated you and I hope there is another studio out there who will give you the respect you deserve. Good luck in all you do in the future. Health, wealth and happiness to you and many thanks for all the pleasure you have brought to me and my family through your portrayal of Daniel Jackson. The show got stale and disappointed me; you and Daniel never did.

G’day Michael, I am really sorry that you have left STARGATE SG-1. I have never been a big Sci Fi fan at all, until I watched SG-1 from my sick bed, and the show had me hooked :) I loved your character of Daniel Jackson most of all, so it is a huge disappointment to hear that you have left the show. In a couple of weeks time your Kiwi fans will get to see your last episode on SG-1, and I am afraid I am not looking forward to it. I don’t think I could even bring myself to watching it in fact.
Michael, You don’t have to cover up for MGM and the Stargate writers when it comes to your fans and supporters. Just say it....Your character of Daniel was edged out of the show completly....end of story. We Kiwis don’t beat around the bush matey. We know when something smells fishy and the way Daniel was demoted from SG-1 was a REAL BIG fishey story, and we don;t like it.
Many of us have heard that scripts have been written for you for Season 6, so you can make a come back.
PLEASE MAKE THAT COME BACK Michael. If SG-1 script writers can write Daniel stories now, why didn’t they do so before hand? And there are some talented fans of yours and SG-1 out here, that certainly write wonderful fanfic stories. Perhaps SG-1 script writers could get them to write some good Daniel stories for SG-1. We’d show them how it’s done.Michael, Thanks for all the pleasure you have given me over this last year when I discovered Stargate. There have been times when my health has been real bad, and when I have had my tv on in my room and SG-1 comes on, you and the team certainly brightened my day up, and made having to stay in bed hooked up to oxygen that much more bearable.
GOD SPEED Michael. All the very Best, and PLEASE come back to SG-1 sometime. Have you ever been to New Zealand? :)
Cheers matey

Stargate SG-1 has been a wonderfull series. It has recaptured some of the spirit and imagination of the Twilight Zone. We have had so many shows based on secret goverment agencies/conspiracies that quickly became boring when the main focus shifted towards the infigthing, etc. Shows like X-files and The Pretender for example. I like the Daniel Jackson character because he shows the awe and wonder that normal people would feel when faced with some of the fantastic situations that are dreamed up in Sg-1. Without him the rest of the team would lose the "human" element and just be the steriotypical army/scientist group with no imagination.
I really hope that the decision on the shows future will be changed as they will definately lose this fan.
Micheal, you have changed Daniel Jackson from a "wallpaper" character into a very realistic person and an important member of the team. I fully support your decision to not let him return to that kind of role. I wish you all the best for the future !!

Mine Valentine gift to Michael:Great Things to be Discovered
By: Debra Kraft
Great things to be discovered far beyond the stars,
Places locked in mystery, worlds apart from ours,
Such visions keep us dreaming in the silence of the night;
Yet the images are fleeting - they fade in mornings’ light -
Unless they fill an artist with the passion to *create*,
As we witnessed with excitement on a series called "Stargate".
This is a techie world, full of sterile stainless steel,
A very Trekkie world with a futuristic feel.
We’ve lost the sense of wonder; we’ve lost the edge of time.
We look so far ahead, and underestimate the crime…
The path for all our journeys begins somewhere *behind*!
And that is what they showed us, when this whole thing began,
This awakening of wonder through the eyes of one, young man
With an appetite for knowledge. He fought those blinded to new things;
He sought the meaning of all life; he filled our hearts with special wings
That let us soar to new beginnings, yet also search for yesterday.
He gave us hope and curiosity. He helped us find another way,
Another pathway to tomorrow; another vision to explore,
One that’s filled with revelation, through a round, blue, shining door.
Alas, this artist’s canvas can no longer fit the frame,
As a brush with stronger bristles paints a techie, Trekkie game.
Action sans adventure, with a conspiracy or two,
Has led this vision backwards, spreading solvent on the glue
That held a team together - the special chemistry destroyed,
In favor of a formula too frequently employed.
Perhaps it can be salvaged; or perhaps this is the end,
Of a panoramic vision, and a very special friend.
Yet he will not be forgotten, and his wonder will not fade,
In the hearts that felt the magic of a character well played.

I have been watching the show since I saw the pilot, and I’ve loved every episode! While I first watched the show because I loved Richard Dean Anderson as "MacGyver," I quickly grew to love Daniel Jackson as a character also, and Daniel became the reason for my watching the show. I’m am greatly saddened by the fact that MGM has decided to write Daniel out of the script...where oh where will we get the intelligent, caring, *handsome* Doctor who is so skilled in the languages and cultures of these other planets? I really, really hope that MGM, and the boneheads who decided to take the show in a more militaristic direction reconsiders. At the risk of sounding like a groupie, I just wanted to say..."I LOVE YOU MICHAEL!" ;-) heh. (I just found out about this whole thing tonight...now I’m going to be in a bad mood. And I’m supposed to be studying for a test!)Julia Kwan <tw33tiebyrd@hotmail.com>

Dear Michael,You have done a marvelous job with the character of Daniel Jackson. You have made him real and we, your fans, care about him. He balances out the military aspect of the story with intellect and a curiousity to learn and know more about the ancient and futuristic civilizations that SG-1 encounter in their many travels. The show needs that balance, otherwise, we just get a more or less militaristic, let’s all shoot first and ask questions later, regarding anything or anyone new and unknown that is encountered in the team’s Star Gate travels. Daniel Jackson was relevant to the original movie version of the story for that reason, and he’s relevant now to the TV series for the very same reason. TPTB should realize that.

Dear Michael,Firstly I would like to say "Thank You!" for everything you gave us (the fans), I cannot imagine the show without you...
I started to watch Stargate SG-1 because I loved the film so much, but after a while of watching the show I fell in love with it too.
Daniel was the reason I would watch the show, you made the show for me, and I think I speak for everyone when I say "Please Come Back! We Miss You Tons!"
Good Luck And Take Care!

Dear MichaelI am so sad to see you go - I’ve phoned, e-mailed, and written to MGM and Sci-Fi Channel begging them to write your character back in. I don’t think Stargate will be the same without you. I, too, wish you all the luck in whatever you chose to do next, but most of all I hope you return to the show to make it whole again. Thank you.

Sorry to see that you’ve left the fold, but given that so many of us were leaving the show behind for similar reasons, I can hardly fault you for your decision. I can only hope that your erstwhile bosses come to their senses and stop deliberately trying to send the show down in flames in a futile effort to pursue a demographic that is plainly the kiss of death. Daniel was and remains one of the most textured, realistically-developed characters in television (not just genre TV), and you were able to keep up with those developments seemingly without breaking a sweat. Beautiful work -- you can be damned proud of what you accomplished in the past five years of your professional life. I wish you success and happiness and will definitely keep an eye out for your future work.Janis Cortese <janis@io.com>

Dear Mr. Shanks,Since I enjoyed the original movie, and the wonderful stars in it, I was tempted to not watch the series on Showtime. But when time came for the season premiere, my husband over-ruled me, and we watched it together. Imagine my surprise when I liked the series, and the actors even better than the movie.
While I respect your decision, and wish you luck in all your endeavors, I can’t tell you how strongly I disagree with your opinion. Daniel serves as the strongest member of the team out of all of them. Not only through linkages to past mythologies, but as the only rational thinker of the group. While Jack and Til’c are military thinkers, Carter is the scientific thinker. Daniel alone was able to see the whole picture.
Besides, emphasizing any more military influence is just going to turn a truly meaningful show into just another macho-shoot-em-up-show. How boring!
Gone will be the humor, and the insight. Stargate SG-1 just might lose this fan along with their reigning anthropologist.
Fortunately, I am also a Trekie. And I am looking forward to seeing you there. But don’t disappoint us Daniel fans too much. Like an old friend, we’ll miss you dearly.

Hello Mr. Shanks. I stumbled upon the Stagate SG-1 series quite by accident last fall and quickly fell in love with the show and the whole concept of the Stargate. Rarely have I viewed a series where I enjoyed ALL of the characters, and this is one of them--or should I now use the past-tense, since you are now leaving?? After watching an epsiode from Season 2, where you played the character "Machello," I realized what wonderful acting abilities you possess, and I understand your desire to leave a show where your creativity is no longer being peaked. I hope we can convince MGM to bring you back once in awhile--your Daniel Jackson character reminds us all that as human beings we all need to be more compassionate, moral, and kind--without losing our sense of humor.
With love from Chicago, and good luck to you in all your endeavors!!!!!----Jamie K Jamie Kallio <jlynn1972@hotmail.com>

Michael - we are all fighting for you! We want you back, the show is bordering on being unwatchable without you as Daniel Jackson. I hope you can take heart from the fact that even though TPTB seem to think your character makes good wallpaper, WE DO NOT!! You made the show! I love every member of the team and the point is they need Daniel! Daniel brings some sanity, some clear, enlightened thinking to the whole team dynamic. If the show is to go out with a roar rather than a whimper, we need you back! We are all behind you and that must count for something!Boblu

Michael I just wanted to say that the stargate won’t be the same without you. Daniel balanced the team he kept them morally conscience of there actions especially Jack. One of my favorite episodes is Beasts of Burden. I love your characters ability to communicae with all life forms. That ability can not and will not replaced. I hope you and the writers can write you back in to the story as good as they wrote you out. I thought the way you left was fitting for your character but I would love to see you come back. Also I would like to see you come back with a close-up to your grandfather coming back. Thank you for all te time your devoted to Stargate Sg1. It is one of my favorite all time shows. And would love another movie. Mark <Large0064@aol.com>

Dear Michael,I was one of the 900 people at the SG4 convention who had the very great pleasure of meeting you in person this past weekend.
I hope if you ever had any doubt about how the fans feel about the character of Daniel Jackson, the reception you received there (including that 4 minute standing ovation.. *g*) and also at the other events you’ve attended around Europe allayed that. Having seen you ’in action’ this weekend has really made me a Michael Shanks fan, whereas before I would have said I was much more a Daniel fan. I’m sure I’m not alone in that.
Your performances as Daniel Jackson over the past 5 years have brought so much pleasure to so many - in a lot of ways, I know I’ve always felt as though I’ve travelled through the Stargate with you as if you were my representative on SG-1. I’ve never been military, I’ve always been the bookworm, and to see a complex character on TV who I could identify with has been something I’ve enjoyed immensely.
Without your character being there, the show loses both its heart and its conscience. Thanks for everything you’ve brought to the show over the past 5 seasons, all that wonder and excitement and intelligence and humanity.
I hope your character will return, I hope that TPTB will realise what a massive mistake they’ve made and do what they need to do to make that possible. If not, then I wish you all the best for the future, both personally and professionally.

Dear Mr Shanks, I know that you were given a link to this site. I would urge you to use that link and read the message from Emma’s mum on the personal experiences board. I have just done so and I am still weeping. I notice that the little girl herself has left you a message,if it is at all possible do you think that you could find a way to reply to her? Perhaps on this site. Few things have moved me as much in what has been a long lifetime. I am 72. You must be an extraordinary person to provoke such feelings. I wish you well in the future, may your life be long and happy.

Hi Michael, I didn’t accept that Daniel was actually leaving until I saw for myself! I did shed a few tears as my favorite show will never be the same again.
You made Daniel’s character so real and so much of an inspiration that I just cannot imagine how the team can ever fulfil their full potential without him. Daniel is, in my opinion, the most enlightened member of the team. He represents how humanity could and should be thinking. SG1 has lost it’s heart.
I think I speak for most Daniel fans when I say that from now on, the thing we will notice most about the show is Daniel’s absence. I hope those responsible for failing to realise the significance of Daniel’s place in the show will now realise their mistake.
Yes, it is only Sci fi but for those of us who spend our lives trying to make a difference in the world, things can get pretty depressing. Stargate SG1 has provided me with an escape from the gloom! The character of Daniel gives a voice to what many of us are working for. Thanks Michael for giving him so much soul. Good luck in the future.Jenni.

Dear Mr. Shanks,
I’ve just watched Meridian two days ago... There is no word to explain how I feel right now ! I feel as if I had lost a friend ... What ever Mister Wright can say, I totally don’t care ! Maybe he thinks that Daniel’s arc was over, but let me tell you that I trully believe that isn’t true. I can’t imagine Stargate SG-1 without Daniel ! As I’m from Quebec, we are probably going to see Meridian on TV only in May. Personnaly, I downloaded it on the Internet Thursday and since that time I’ve watched it four times... I knew that your character was going to leave the serie on that show, but I wasn’t really believing it. If you left the serie, in spite of what you’re saying (but it’s the reason that Mr Wright is giving to the press), because you wanted to pursue other projects, then I respect your choice and I’m sending you all my best wishes... BUT, if you are leaving because they totally wrote of Daniel of Stargate without taking in consideration that he is the Heart, the Soul and one if it’s not the most important character of the program... That unacceptable ! Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that MGM don’t even know that it’s because of the new direction of the show that you quit and not because you wanted to do something else! Maybe if they know, it can help you to negociate with the producers to go back on the old Stargate that we love... I’ve start watch the program because of your character, because of his passion, his compassion, well because of how he is, simply... I’m not an anglophone so my vocabulary is limited, but I just can’t let them that Daniel away like that! Meridian was an extremely good emission and I’m glad that Daniel ascend, I trully think that if it has someone that own that, it’s was him... but I’m gonna miss him too much! There is a lot of good stories that could be write on Daniel from that point ! I mean, he’s gonna be able to pursue his journey this way... If the writers need help for that, well they just have to ask to the fans (like me), who are there since the beginning! I’m sure that we could give them a lot of good ideas for that. Michael you can even imagine how your character change the way that I was seing life... and I’m sure that I’m not the only one who grew with Daniel... I also want to tell you that the fans are with you and that if you need help for anything, you just have to ask and we are gonna do our best the help you to bring Daniel back ! You put to much energy in the program, that they just can’t push you away like that from it ! You deserve to be respect more than that! I still don’t know if I will still watch Stargate now... for the season 6... I’m struggle between the fact that Jack, Sam, Teal’c , Janet, Georges, Jacob, etc. mean also a lot to me and I still wanna follow them into their journey, so I wanna watched it. But, on the other hand, nothing is gonna be the same without Daniel and after Meridian, it’s so obvious !!! As I said, there is no word to express how I feel right now, so I can go on like this for a while ! :o) But, I just want to say that you are an incredible actor, that I would like you back in the program to much, but if it’s impossible, I hope that you are gonna find someting else and as many others, I think that you should have your own show! From the buttom of my heart, I hope that Daniel’s character is gonna be back soon in Stargate SG-1 with all the credit that he (and you by the way) own! If not, and even soo, good luck in all your new projects ! Take this time of to enjoy as much as you can all the joy of the fatherhood ! Take care and thank you for all what you have done!

Okay--so it’s all been said before, and maybe one more doesn’t matter but I feel I have to add my voice. And after all--isn’t that exactly what Daniel always did? He spoke up and he kept talking whether anyone wanted to listen or not. We depended on him to do exactly that. In many ways Daniel was our voice, expressing wonder and excitement and fear and anger and most of all the simple joy of life’s possibilities. Daniel wasn’t perfect, sometimes he screwed up, but he never stopped trying and he alway gave it 100%. Much as you have done in portraying Daniel. You stayed true to your vision of Daniel and always gave your best--even when at times I’m sure it was an uphill battle. You gave us wonderfully nuanced performances--subtle cues in body language and tone of voice--that told us so much about Daniel, what he was thinking and feeling. You shared Daniel with us and I know we are all grateful.
Like so many others I, apparently, am not part of the ’desirable’ demographic. I’m a 41 year old single mother, college educated, gainfully employed professional woman. Which means that I’m old enough, busy enough, smart enough, and independent (or ornery) enough that I do not suffer fools gladly. I watch very little tv because so much of it seems to cater to the lowest common denominator. Stargate was different. It was intelligent, funny, exciting and it challenged me to think. Daniel Jackson was a big part of that and, as it has become all too obvious in last season and a half, without him the show loses a lot of it’s integrity. I will say good bye to Daniel and Stargate SG-1 with sadness. But I look forward to seeing what other characters you can bring to life for us in the coming years.
Best wishes

Dear Mr. Shanks: Your performance in Meridian was stellar. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much at a TV ep before. The last scene between Jack and Daniel with Daniel’s tear filled eyes and voice saying "I don’t know." was so heartfelt. I couldn’t help thinking it was your own voice on leaving Stargate SG-1. Know that the fans appreciate the hard work you’ve done, know that we are glad we had Daniel Jackson for too short a time. For me, Stargate SG-1 is over. I will be enjoying my DVDs of Season 1 and tapes of season 2 and 3.
I can’t watch the show without a Daniel Jackson in it.babs

If each member of the team is a finger on a hand, then Daniel was the opposible thumb...The only one to question when no one else would
A role model for a generation of thinkers
Keeping characters like him around is the same reason why we will still learn to write with pen and ink, rather than keyboards
It will be hard for that character to achieve more in his next life, compared to his short fictional one here

Although I have just joined the SG1 fandom, I have been a HUGE fan of both movies since their relese dates. I cannot imagine this show, being that it is the continuing story of such an amazing Science Fiction creation, going on without THE man who made it all possible! When I first saw the movie Stargate, Daniel Jackson captivated and held me, and I would never get tired of watching the movie, seeing this scientific nerd making so much sense of life, and of the realm we all want to live in, if only to be with him... Upon finding out that Daniel was leaving the show, before I even got a chance to really watch it, made for one of the biggest disappointments of my life. We are both utterly shocked. Michael, you are without doubt a brilliant actor and we wish you well. We look forward to seeing you in any film, TV or theatre productions in future. To the producers. Are you stark raving lunatics! How can you let this character be written out.He adds the common sense aspect to the whole proceedings. We, the people who watch the show and therefore pay you, needed more of his character, not less. He is as much a part of the programme as any other member of the team or even the "gate". I, for one, have always been thrilled to see a "historian" show up on television fiction! I’m a historian myself, transplanted from Dallas Texas to England, and I was thrilled to see what a huge following there is for Stargate over here. But we need Daniel Jackson to show that not all of us brainy types are nerds!Melinda Rice <si@play63.freeserve.co.uk>

Michael,
Thank you for the wonder of these past four years. Your work has always been appreciated by the fans. You have made Daniel Jackson such an integral part of Stargate SG-1 that your absence will most certainly affect this program. I will miss watching your work on a regular basis but I know that you will be successful in whatever new ventures you become involved in. Please, do remember that although you may never meet many of the fans who enjoy watching your performances, that we are sincere in our wishes for your new life to be one as full of wonder and excitement as though you had actually travelled through the Stargate.
Take care,

I really don’t understand why he has to go, there is plenty of good material with wich he can grow as Daniel, is just that they haven’t had the courage to experiment with new frontiers, He knows a lot of languages so why not explore that?.... Michaeal, please do not leave Stargate SG-1. I enjoy your character alot. If you do decide to not come back for season 6, I can understand, but the show will definitely not be the same. Your character is an essential part of SG-1, maybe they should just teach Daniel how to defend himself, send him off to basic training. April <algammill@yahoo.com>

Dear Michael,Just wanted to add my own "thank you and best wishes" to this very long list. I don’t have Showtime, so I’m only in season 4, but even I have begun to notice a difference in the show’s dynamic, once that’s principally characterized by the underutilization of Daniel Jackson. Like so many others here, I applaud your decision to leave rather than see the character become marginalized.
It was interesting to read that the reason you originally signed onto the show was because you thought it would primarily focus on the relationship between Jack and Daniel--that’s the same reason I initially started watching it, and it was one of the two reasons I stuck with it. The second reason was simply the complexity of Daniel’s character, both in how he was written and how you portrayed him. His contstant sense of wonder at and appreciation for each new world the team visited made it possible for us, the viewers, to marvel at these new worlds as well. His unfailing compassion and determination to consider other points of view--no matter how alien--were an inspiration.
Daniel Jackson is very much a one-of-a-kind character; I thank you for bringing him to life, and for staying true to him, even at this cost.
Best of luck to you,

Hellow, i don’t know what to say. it’s all has been said. i know that we all will miss Daniel, actually everybody i know, including myself, will probably stop watching stargate.
stargate was my favourite show, but the last season wasn’t as good as the previous ones, and taking Daniel off the show is not gonna make things better u know!
Still, i hope Michael Skanks the best, Stargate won’t be the same without him, i always beleived he was the honnest, cuttest, smartest one. He even made me wanna study archeology! I just wish him all the best.
thanks for giving me the opportunity to participate in this, i hope everybody’s voice can be heard.

Dear Michael,
I have just been reading a few of the other messages and they all pretty much echo what I would like to say.I have been watching Stargate from the beginning and like everyone else you can’t help but get hooked, I too fell in love with Daniel Jackson and will be sad to see the character leave, but life as they say goes on. No, Stargate won’t be the same without you, I will still be watching every week, and I do hope that at some point you will come back. I just want to say thanks for the five years that you played Daniel, you made him a joy to watch and i truly hope that whatever direction your life takes you it makes you happy.I hope you don’t forget us downunder, because as long as there is a Stargate you’ll always be in our hearts.
Take Care and all the best for the future,

Being in the UK I am currently enjoying re-runs of series one on Sky One. Sky are also showing the current series Five. I can see why Michael Shanks wishes to leave, as series 5 is a poor relation to the excellently written pilot series. When series one is on, our whole household has to be quiet. As compared to series 5 which, even I, turned off this week. It is a shame that the writing has become tired and that the story lines, well quite frankly, dull!
I hope the writers come back with something better for series six and do not continue to disappoint the loyal followers of SG-1.
Anyway Michael, good luck with finding some more challenging acting.SSweet <sharon.sweet@ntlworld.com>

Daniel Jackson is Stargate!!! Stargate without Daniel is just "Hmmmm, Which Goa’uld to kill this week?". Being an On again-Off Again (currently off) Earth: Final Conflict fan I know that TV execs sometimes have no idea what they have until they ruin it. Mr. Shanks, If you were pressured into leaving then I would have to say this is a serious mistake on the part of the PTB at MGM!! If you decided to leave on your own because Daniels character is going down the tubes, I completely support u!! I truely hope that the PTB will come to their sences and bring Daniel back intact. If you have heard from MGM that Daniel is just not important enough, well thats simply not true. You and your character are integral to the Stargate premise and I would be very surprised if the show continues without you. It appears that RDA is noticing this as well. I hope they bring you back but if they don’t I wish you good luck in the future. Thanx for Daniel!!R. Durling <rdurling@nbnet.nb.ca>

Dear Mr. Shanks,When the news was announced that you were leaving, I was saddened but resigned to the loss of Daniel. Frankly, since season 4, the show had been evolving into something so different from that which first captured my imagination that it was almost a relief that I wouldn’t have to watch anymore. The team relationships had changed, the storylines felt tired, but I kept hanging on - even though every episode that didn’t ‘feel’ like Stargate SG1 was another blow to my love of the show - because of Daniel. He’s the reason I started watching. I love all members of SG1 dearly, they’re such a wonderful little family, but this didn’t feel like SG1 and it was heartbreaking seeing the changes - Daniel was the reason I didn’t just switch off.
Then you left and stated why and the relief, selfish though it was, to discover that one of the actors was feeling the same was great.
Quite why Daniel was pushed into the background I don’t know. I suppose the fans will never know. However, I want you to know that when you were voicing your concerns about the direction of the show and how things were developing for Daniel, so were many fans. When you felt Daniel was left out of team scenes simply because he wasn’t an action hero type and some of the writers didn’t know what to do with him, many fans noticed, too. For every time you voiced a concern there were fans voicing those same concerns in post after post, telephone conversations, letters, carrier pigeons...
You decided to move on rather than stick around possibly for more of the same – and I’m grateful you did, for your sake and that of Daniel, because when it’s come to the point when writers can’t think what to do with an archaeologist and linguist in a series that claims to be about going to other worlds and discovering alien and ancient cultures, then Daniel is better off ‘out there’ than ‘over there’ in the background with the potted plants and wallpaper. Daniel and Jack – more so Daniel – started this journey; for many people, myself included, Daniel *is* Stargate. Thank you for taking a character I was already fond of from the Stargate movie and turning him into the endearing, maddening, charming and downright lovable man I’ve come to admire, respect and, yes, even, um, swoon over (no, it’s not the glasses...).
There should be more people like Daniel in this world and it’s nice to think that out there, there might be – oh, the eye colour may be a little different and he or she might prefer cookies with raisins, but I bet they feel just as passionately about their work and I bet they still do that thing with their eyebrows (yup, that’s it). Thanks for giving us ’our’ Daniel. He’s been a joy to watch.
There’s been talk of you coming back for guest appearances. I’m sure you don’t need some strange Brit fan-girl telling you this but...if it’s more of the same, don’t do it. If it’s Daniel standing around doing nothing or being twisted to fit a storyline line, run for the hills. Seriously. I adore Daniel, would *love* to see him back, but only if the character is front and centre where he used to be. Anything less would be a demotion and it already feels like he, and you, have been shoved into the background far too much as it is.
Take good care of you and yours. Be happy. Best wishes for the future and may all your dreams come true, especially the ones that involve you being in shows purchased by the UK in which you play an interesting character and you wear less clothing. Oh wait, that’s my dream...
Many, many thanks,
Cheryl

Dear Michael,
I’m over here in Britain and am only half way viewing series five. I’ve heard about you leaving through the internet and am really upset. Your character gives a fresh, non-military view to any event that SG-1 come up against. However i can sympathize with your reasons for leaving as since the beginning of S4 both Daniel and Teal’C have sunk into the background and their roles have not been as defined as many fans would have liked. Althougth not able to remember every daniel jackson episode, the few that i do remeber touch the heart on a deeper level and are emotions that the fans can identify with.
Stargate will be the lesser without you and i only hope that you return to reprise your role in S6 and in a feature film! good luck for the future!!!!!!!!!Jenny Dodds <NELLY85LOIS@aol.com>

Dear Michael,I’m a late-comer to the Stargate series, having only started watching it on TV about three months ago when season four aired. I wasn’t greatly impressed with the episodes until I saw "The First One". I just loved that episode (I’m kicking myself now that I didn’t tape it)! The next one, "Scorched Earth", had me hooked. In both of those episodes, Daniel had a wonderful role to play and that, perhaps, is what made them so watchable.
Since then, I’ve been watching every Stargate episode I can lay my hands on (which hasn’t been easy). I’ve seen most of seasons 2 and 3, and have enjoyed them all (with a few exceptions). I thought you did a fantastic job in "Need" and "Crystal Skull", where you got to take a step outside the way you normally had to play Daniel. That sort of thing makes for interesting viewing. "Forever in a Day", however, was a little confusing to start off with but I think I’ve got it worked out now :)
Now, being in Australia, I haven’t seen most of seasons 4 and 5, so I’m just taking yours and everyone else’s word for it that Daniel’s being pushed into the background. I’m really sorry that’s happened, and the producers might be by the end of the year too, depending on how the ratings go without you in the team. But I wish you luck in whatever you do next... just pick better things to be in that "Escape from Mars", which I didn’t find to be as exciting as the cover’s write-up said :)
From what I’ve read of Daniel’s exit, I have to say that the writers could have found a better way to have him leave than ascend to the next level of being. I was imagining things along the line of Daniel being a Gou’ald host, which would provide some interesting conflicts down the line when the SG-1 team had to face him. But I suppose they had their reasons - whatever they might be.
I am looking forward to seeing "Absolute Power" though, as well as the early episodes on video (if I can ever find them!). I also hope to see you in the new Star Trek film (my other favourite sci-fi series).
Good luck!
Melanie

Okay, I admit this is my second message. However, I just can’t show my appreciation enough. Thank you for five incredible years playing Daniel Jackson. You made Daniel Jackson so likeable, realistic, and human. Daniel has just suffered through tragic event after tragic event, yet he still comes back a stronger and more wonderful person. I apologize for not acting like other fans did in Season 4. The second that Jack, Sam, and Teal’c walked through the gate in Small Victories, something felt wrong to me with the team relationship. I felt like Daniel was being singled out and ignored by the writers and his team mates. However, I was in a state of denial, and I always had faith in the writers to fix it. I totally support, understand, and applaud your decision to leave as painful as it is to say. Thank you for always staying true to your character. Best wishes and good luck!Hall <earlyprimaryteacher@yahoo.com>

Dear Michael, Thank you for the magic you gave to my T.V. screen & making SG1 live in the form of Daniel. To me Sg1 cannot be a family again if you are not there. Remember ’Fire and Water’. Daniel made the Stargate happen, He’s it’s voice and conscience and he was Jack’s best friend. I agree on why you had to leave. Don’t the bosses know how special Daniel is & what a special acting talent you have. I wish you all the happiness and success you rightly deserve. I know you may knot like being type casted but for me you will always have a place in my heart as Daniel - his generosity, kindness, curiosity, I could go on. Just one good thing - this means I will see you at SG4 - Thank you for everything - Diana. Diana <hayesdrift@lineone.net>

I think Mr. Shank’s charaacter had a lot of potential in the future for the show. Daniel Jackson was the focal point of the first movie. He was the one that opened the gate and allowed the thought for a series based on the movie. Granted Mr.Shanks wasn’t the actor who portrayed Daniel at the time, but he did an amazing job filling, and expanding , Mr.Spader’s shoes. He really was the man who formed the personality of Daniel. He made Daniel more realistic so that we,as fans, could relate to this clumsy, stereotypically smart character. I think that if Mr.Shanks left (which is entirelly his opinion, and I support his motives) , then the producers would have a heck of a time trying to portray Daniel using a different and totally foreign actor. Mr.Anderson may be the exec. producer, but it is Mr. Shanks who is the star. Thank you for your time.Farewell.Megan <Guinevere1117@aol.com>

Dear Michael Shanks,Thank you, sir, for bringing Daniel Jackson to life each week for the last five years. I joined the SG-1 fandom in 1999 with the initial airing of "Jolinar’s Memories", it was Daniel Jackson that hooked me into watching more. For that, I can never show enough appreciation to you. I was not a StarGate movie fan, in fact I never thought that the movie could be carried over into a series and yet... here I am five years later.
Daniel Jackson is is more than a character to me, he’s a kindred spirit, and he is the only member of SG-1 I can truly identify with. He is the heart and soul of SG-1 for me and I will not accept any substitutes or replacments.
I’ve heard a lot of stories about why you made your decision, some from your point of view, some from others. For what it’s worth, I understand why you came to the decision you did and I support your decision with all my heart.
As season six draws nearer I keep trying to hold on to the hope that Daniel will one day return to the place only he can fill in the SGC and SG-1. I know that the possibilites are slim at best, but there is hope still in this heart, regardless of what my mind tells me.
I just wanted to add my support, to this long list of admirers, for all you’ve done for StarGate SG-1. Believe us when we say, "you will be missed". Thank you so very much for holding true to Daniel Jackson and giving us such a special person to love.

It was the character of Daniel in the film which brought me to the series and I wasn’t disappointed. That is, until he faded into the background. Now I watch for the tiny scraps of team interaction and banter between Jack and Daniel that we sometimes get thrown. Without Daniel-who is,quite frankly irreplaceable-there is a missing element,no balance-I can’t bear to see what WAS my favourite programme fall apart in this way. With Daniel I shall depart.
To you, Micheal, good luck in all you do.Bernice <circe@ntlworld.com>

Your departure from Stargate SG-1 is unfortunate, yet understandable. I share your feelings with regard to the underutilized character of Daniel Jackson and the current direction of the show. Stargate SG-1 should be about exploration, not controversy; it should focus on finding lost truths, seeking futures locked in history, and moving towards becoming the "fifth race". Daniel Jackson is vital to these paths. Earth-bound agendas, shadow governments and controversies fall beyond that character’s realm of expertise - indeed, even beyond his importance. Of course, the infamous "powers that be" behind shows like this have their own visions. I can understand and respect that truth. Unfortunately, I’ve long since realized those visions rarely fall in line with my own. I am forty years old, and in all those years I have never been as completely satisfied with anything on television as I have been with Stargate SG-1 - until now.
Everything I loved about the show was embodied by your character. A recent MGM on-line newsletter included an interview with you, within which you mention your favorite episode - the one that immediately came to mind - as being "Torment of Tantalus". I was pleased to see this statement, because that has long been my favorite as well. That "meaning of life stuff" struck a chord with me early on, and endeared me all the more to the character of Daniel Jackson. Since those early episodes you’ve made that character grow more than any I’ve ever followed on television. Yet in all that growth, that seeker of the "meaning of life" was never abandoned. Yes, the character grew because of and not in spite of that characteristic. Congratulations on a job well done, and on a part well acted.
I sincerely hope you find satisfaction in seeking your own visions as you explore new roles. As to my vision - well, perhaps that’s what led me to writing long ago. I have some pretty strong visions of my own, visions that exist only within my own heart - though, for a time, they seemed to co-exist in a studio in Vancouver, in the production of a special show called Stargate SG-1.
Thank you, Michael, for the years you’ve given us as Dr. Daniel Jackson. I’m sure the best is yet to come for you.

Dear Michael,Thank you for bringing Daniel Jackson, a intelligent, sensitive and compelling character into my life and into the lives of those who could appreciate him. Thank you also for the integrity to make what must have been a difficult decision to leave the show. For a character to just disappear into the background must be like a slow death for the actor who portrays him. We all want to remember the space monkey for the wonderful, endearing character that you made him, not some inconsequential nobody who had his moments of glory and then faded away.
I know it’s sounds silly but my life has been changed by SG-1, and especially Daniel and his ability to explore and question and step outside his comfort zone. My imagination was ignited by the show and I have finally started the novel I always wanted to write but never had the courage to commit to paper. Maybe it’ll come to nothing, but at least I would have tried.
With your departure, a special part of the SG-1 magic has been lost. I want to wish you well in whatever you choose to do. So long and thanks for all the memories.

Your wonderful and sensitive portrayal of Daniel and his sterling character makes you and him the best actor and character I have ever seen. You have inspired me to do better in my life through observing Daniel’s spiritual qualities. I hope you can come back for guest appearances in season 6. Dear Mr. Shanks,
Thank you for your portrayal of Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1. How refreshing to have a hero who used his brain to solve problems and tried with all his heart to find peaceful solutions. I won’t be watching Stargate once Daniel Jackson is gone. I enjoyed watching a show where the "geek" mattered as much as the soldier or the macho man. I enjoyed the exploration of other cultures. Most of all, I enjoyed the interaction between 4 very diverse people who had formed a complex and successful team. You will be missed, and I wish you all the luck in any future endeavors.Sincerely,

Dear Michael,
Thank you for utilizing your remarkable talents to bring to life and maturity a wonderful, endearing, and unforgettable character in Daniel Jackson. Thank you for making him real. Scripts give you a blueprint for what your character thinks, says and does, but it is you as the actor who decides how to read those lines, how to move, what to reveal. Thank you for making Daniel strong, yet vulnerable; smart, yet grounded; accessible, yet unbreakable; courageous, yet thoughtful. Thank you for showing that an academic is not necessarily a geek or a person without social savvy or graces. Thank you for showing that an academic can be just as heroic, physical, attractive, and passionate as a jock. And thank you for caring enough to stand up and fight for the integrity of such a character. Thank you for caring enough and having courage enough to let go of the character rather than participate in his denigration. Especially when you didn’t have another project lined up to jump into. It had to be a most difficult decision. Rest assured, that you won’t be "resting" long. You are too fine an actor with too great a range to not be snatched up quickly as soon as your availability is realized.I watched STARGATE SG-1 because I loved the kind of person Daniel Jackson was and because HE was the heart and soul of the series. And I watched it because, like you, I saw it as a buddy show which I love. Most of the reasons cop shows, westerns, and military shows are popular can be found in the buddy banter and interactions. Not many people watch to learn how to catch perps and outlaws or witness military prowess. How you and Richard developed and breathed depth and nuance into the friendship between Jack and DAniel was the backbone of the series and the reason I watched. Frankly, after seeing the movie, I didn’t expect to watch the series past the one or two opening episodes I give every new series. That’s because I wasn’t fond of how Kurt played Jack (and you can’t like a buddy show if you don’t like one of the buddies) and while I was okay with Spader’s Daniel, I wasn’t eager to sit through a year of the gentle, eager-to-please, bumbling, absentminded professor when I’m a professional scientist myself who is very much grounded in this world. What you gave me was a delight that kept me watching from day one.
My heart bleeds whenever I hear something like Daniel Jackson is not important enough to treat with care and dignity or to shed a tear over. I applaud your courage in coming out publicly and saying so because I’ve been astounded at the naivite and utterly unfounded faith in the fans that the production team wouldn’t lie to them to attain their own ends. But I didn’t need your honesty to show me the truth. I saw it every week with my own horrified eyes as season 4 unfolded. As season 4 unfolded, I became more and more depressed and disatisfied with the mediocrity of the new episodes, the lack of cultural exploration, the escalating militarization, and the sidelining of the brightest and my favorite character into wallpaper. Where once we had four parts of a whole -- with Daniel coming up with the creative solutions, Sam the scientific implementation, Jack the strategies and leadership, and Teal’c the alien knowledge, now we had the Sam Carter show where she was the whole team in one (everyone else go home), Jack was the clown, and Daniel the wallpaper, who if he had a line at all, it was to say "Sam told me." Believe me, it was as painful to watch as it was for you to play and I worried that you would get tired of it, frustrated, and disgusted enough to call it quits. Hence, while sad and heartrending, your decision was expected and no surprise at all.
Much as I hate to lose Daniel Jackson, I applaud that you have the integrity to not allow them to inflict more of this erosion and demotion from second place to barely there on us, just for the sake of sure money. That you won’t let them make Daniel insignificant. My heart bleeds that they pushed you out, but in reality, they don’t deserve you. I know you have been diplomatic in shouldering the decision and not describing how intenable they made your position, but it doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines to see that this wasn’t a decision you wanted to make. The evidence is right there in every season 4&5 episode and in the way you’ve been treated in publicity announcements for the media and commentaries by cast and production team. For our part, I think the most revealing sentiment I’ve heard has been ’I’m not going to miss Daniel Jackson because I’m not going to watch Stargate without him. There’s a lot of truth there because the way TPTB have treated you and your character has taken all the joy out of watching the series and I won’t be watching it either. The writers who started the show were among the best in the business and created a truly magical and satisfying series but the change in staff and leadership at the end of the third season was not for the best and I refuse to inflict upon myself the rantings of writers who have so poor a understanding of the characters. I know they’re banking on the fact that ER and NYPD BLUE survived many cast changes, althugh neither show has seen the demise of the heart and soul of the series yet. But they neglect to understand that in each case, the series -- ER, JUDGING AMY, NYPD BLUE -- treated the departure of the audience-favored character with love, care, and dignity -- even when, like in NYPD BLUE’s case, everyone on set hated the actor. They didn’t incur the wrath of the audience by making insignificant their commitment to a favorite character.
Which brings me to the rumors that you might be guest-starring in season 6 or even in the last four leading to the movie. Much as I will miss Daniel Jackson and want to see him again, I hope you decide against this move, as long as the current writing staff is in place. It is sickening to think that they are not considering bringing back Daniel because they have developed a new appreciation for him or are admitting that they underestimated Daniel’s and your worth and importance to Stargate, but instead, because they are afraid -- because they are afraid that those of us who wrote SciFi that they need not worry about scheduling 22 episodes because the audience would be long gone before those airdates and who wrote MGM that they need not worry about funding the movie because there wouldn’t be enough of an audience left to pay for it -- they’re afraid we may be right. Michael, I will support you in any decision you make in this regards because I know you have to eat and support your daughter, but I hope your love of the show and us fans don’t lead you to make these rumors true, unless regimes change. For I fear it will just lead to disappointment for both you and us. Instead, what I really hope, is that when they come knocking, you will already be involved in something that is exciting, challenging and fulfilling and can tell them to drop dead with a resounding NO. Whatever that might be, I’ll be part of your audience watching, because you have proved over and over you can create exciting and real characters, both in STARGATE and in ANDROMEDA. Until then... thank you for all the joy and entertainment and warmth you have given me.

Dear Michael,For me, the story of SG-1 has been the voyage of discovery of Daniel Jackson across the years. From unraveling the mysteries of the Stargate to acting as the voice of morality in a variety of circumstances. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful and sensitive portrayal of Daniel Jackson.
My disappointment at losing, to me, the pivotal character in the SG-1 team, is tempered by respect for your decision. I wish you the best in whatever your future holds and look forward to seeing more of your work.
See you at SG-4 !

Dear Michael,
Thank you for five wonderful years. Daniel gave the show so much life and energy and I will truly miss him and his relationship with the other members of SG-1.
To me Stargate was a buddy show - Jack and Daniel and it’s a shame to see it move and change in a different direction to it’s original premise.
I continue to support you in anything you do. If you can breath life into other characters as fantastically as you did with Daniel, then I look forward to seeing your future projects.
Be happy in what you do, that’s all that matters.
Thank you for making me smile these last few years.Linsey McArthur <linsey_kree@hotmail.com>

Dear Michael,I want to thank you for all your wonderful work as Daniel Jackson over the last five years. From the movie he struck me as the most interesting character and I enjoyed watching the way you started there, then gradually developed your own aspects of the character whilst still keeping the basic integrity. I am devastated that the writers feel that Daniel has nowhere to go in the future. That seems unbelievable to me. He is the heart and soul of exploring the Universe and I stupidly thought that’s what Stargate was about.
I really admire you standing up for your priciples and leaving the show because it has changed so much. I was lucky enough to see firsthand how much you know and love the show when I attended BOBWs in Sydney last October. The knowledge you showed about every aspect was absolutely awesome. It must have been so difficult to leave.
I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavours. I don’t want Daniel to leave but the show is so disappointing recently that I’m glad you will no longer be a part of it.
Best wishes

Michael,It was such a pleasure to meet you at the Best of Both Worlds con here in Sydney -- I’ve never met an actor who could keep up with the fans when it comes to every little detail of a show the way you did with us! It was great fun and I think you won a very special place in the hearts of everyone who attended. We’re certainly all still talking about it!
Thank you for caring about the show and about Daniel as much as we do, it has made the whole experience that much more special. I’m sorry things have turned out the way they have, I will miss Daniel and you very much and still hold out hope that we will see you both in the coming season.
Good luck for the future wherever it may lead you and have fun at the cons in the UK and Europe -- but never forget that we were your first!
cheers,
Tricia.

Good on you for having the guts to pack it in when you did. Those in charge get away with treating actors and fans alike with contempt. Mind you some of the fans and actors make it easy for them but nuff said about that. Don’t roll over for these tossers. If they want to bugger it all up let them get on with it. People have been telling them for years what they’ve been doing wrong but they won’t listen. When they’ve got giant size egoes it intereferes with their hearing and reading abilities so they only hear and read what they want to and what backs up what they think. Your well out of it. If you’re thinking of caving to them think about how they’ve shat all over your mates. The Judge gets sod all and Amanda was turned into some kind of doll getting soppy over someone old enough to be her dad and now Wonder Woman. If they can’t think of something for Danny to do that doesn’t mean changing him into something that fits their stories don’t bother saying yes to them. Get yourself a job and an employer who treats you and the characters you play with respect. They didn’t listen to you and from that chat Brad Wright gave they’re not listening to fans either because it doesn’t back up what they think and what they want. You are WELL out of it mate.Respect.

Mr Shanks, I just want to say that You made Stargate SG-1 complete! I really hope that MGM realizes just how much you mean to the show and gives you the respect you really deserve in the series. I watched "Meridian" and when I realized that, yes Daniel Jackson WAS going to die, I totaly lost it. You can never be replaced and will be missed. I REALLY hope that you will be given the respect you deserve so you can return to the show (If you wish to do so of course) and continue to portray Daniel Jackson.
If not, You will be greatly missed! I love the series, but cannot say that I’ll continue to follow the series without you. MAN I really hope you come back Mr. Shanks!!LOTS of Respect from Sweden! //Michel

Dear Michael,Thank you so much for the years if hard work that you put in the show. I was an immediate fan from the moment that the pilot episode aired over here in the UK and haven’t missed an episode since. Daniel had been my favorite character from the movie and although I love the rest of the characters in the show, you’re the one that made it for me. Daniel became so much more because of your skills and the heart that you put into him. Thank you.
I cried a great deal when ’Meridian’ aired, it was so well done and the emotions were so real, I just wish it hadn’t been necessary to make.
I understand your reasons for leaving but I hope that, if given the opportunity to return, you’ll return to the role and bring Daniel Jackson back to where he belongs.
With SG-1.
You’ve brought a great deal of joy to so many lives at times when there was very little else.
Thank you again Michael.

Hi Michael...
So, you’re leaving Stargate and I just wanted to say, how much your character has touched me (and cetainly many others), while you have taken part in the show. Daniel Jackson makes up, and in my view, IS the heart of the show and it will never be the same without him; the dynamics that exist now, will never be replicated, no matter who they replace you with. You are simply irreplaceable...
I respect that you feel that the series is now going in a direction, where your character is becoming more and more isolated, (because of the NID stuff etc...), and to a certain point i agree... We just all wish that that wasn’t the case and that our beloved spacemoney Daniel would be here to stay...
However, we can’t force you to stay... We can only grieve your departure... Therefore, i would like to wish you good luck in all that you do in the future and look forward to meeting you in London...
We’ll miss you...

Thank you, Michael for your brilliant portrayal of Daniel Jackson. Dr. Jackson, to me, was the pivotal character in the movie and truly, the heart and soul of SG-1. I apologize for keeping silent while your talents were being wasted from season 4, on. I naively believed that the series would ’get back on track’ after TPTB that got whatever was in their system, out of their system. The news of your departure came as a shock, but after reading your views and concerns you really did not have a choice. I admire your candour and fierce pride in your craft. I wish you nothing but the best and hope your future endeavours will bring you back in the limelight where you shine so well. In the meantime, I will have to content myself with taped episodes as I will not be watchinf season 6. More power to you, Michael!Nancy <nancy_felix@telus.net>

I would like to express my thanks and gratitude to Michael Shanks for bringing the wonderful character of Daniel Jackson to all of us. I am a fan of Stargate and Daniel Jackson since the movie was released. Originally I was concerned about how the new actors in the Showtime series, Stargate SG1, would continue with the characters that I enjoyed from the movie. I have been very happy with how Richard Dean Anderson’s and Michael Shanks continued with Jack and Daniel. I have been particularly impressed and happy with how Michael Shanks has managed to continue with James Spader’s wonderful Daniel and then bring a depth and perfect evolution to Daniel with his own unique and considerable talent which has enriched the show and endeared him to all of his many fans. I am a mature business person who is not in the habit of getting too deeply involved in fictional characters. However, I have had to make an exception for Michael Shank’s Daniel as he has become very special to me. Daniel is a solid, caring, human, intelligent, creative, interesting person. Someone I would be happy to know, and for whom I feel deep sadness knowing that the character will no longer be with the SG1 team, and vicariously, in my life. Daniel is the light of SG1, the heart of the team. His personality and his friendship with Jack as well and his interactions with the rest of SG1 and the Stargate SG1 supporting characters is what makes this show for me. It takes a lot of talent to create a character with such depth that he will be missed and mourned so intently.
Michael, thank you for the wonderful 5 years of Daniel. I will be cherishing watching all the past episodes on DVD and tape again and again. I am hoping to see you bring Daniel back to us again if that is at all possible and I will be looking forward to seeing your future projects.

Dear Michael, I can’t really imagine a Stargate SG-1 without Daniel. For me he is the backbone and the soul of the team, what keeps them going and together. I only started watching Stargate after seeing "Legacy" (although I have caught up with all the episodes now) and it was because of your amazing talent and portrayal of a Daniel in deep emotional distress that I continued to watch. Whatever may happen in S6 or with the film, I wish you nothing but happiness in your career and family life. Thank you for bringing enjoyment to thousands of people. It’s been a treat watching this show, and like the rest of the folks
here one of the biggest appeals is the quirky mix Michael Shanks
brought, embroidering on the Spader character and working out the
inherent culture clashes of the military and academia (got family
who are in that situation, actually, though without the science fantasy
aspects. Usually. Except for Congressional budget expecations, which
are true fantasy!). I’ll miss that a lot, though I confess I’ve missed
it already as writers made less and less use of that conflict. I sincerely
hope that bringing Dr. Jackson back from quantum excitation (grin) is part
of the movie plot and that we’ll see Michael Shanks reprise his role.In any case, thank you to Michael Shanks, you’ll be sorely missed and
best wishes for your career, though I’ll gladly confess I hope the
production team comes to its senses, and writes you back in with scripts
good enough to lure you back!

I enjoyed the movie but the tv show really brought the concept to life. I can’t imagine an SG team without Dr. Jackson. The four characters work together to form a team that is crucial to the series. I can’t imagine a different team member coming in; it would change the dynamics of the team and alter their working together. Please consider bringing Dr. Jackson back for the remainder of the series and keep the team intact.thank you, Sfscarlet

Michael - I’ve really enjoyed your character and your talent these past few years.
In some ways Daniel is more of a person to me than Jack - because Daniel gets in there with his subtle attitude and actions and makes a difference.
Ep’s that feature the Daniel character are fav’s of mine, because they seem to deal more with the wonder that can be found out there, rather than the violence. Daniel makes us think - and your portrayal of him has been marvellous.
I hope TPTB will see the error of their ways and write Daniel back in his full glory - meanwhile I hope that you get to do some of the things you discussed at Con.
Good luck!Lisa <that_gal@btopenworld.com>

Dear Michael Shanks, You have done an incredible job with Daniel Jackson. You really brought life to the character and made him so much more likeable. You have always been my favorite part of the show. I adore every second of the Jack/Daniel interaction. I don't understand why "Daniel" and "Teal'c" aren't being used wisely anymore. The team was always the best and most important part of the show. I don't blamed you for wanting to leave. Although there are episodes where the fans hardly get to see you, I have never considered that you were "wallpaper", though gorgeous wallpaper, maybe. Instead, I consider you an amazingly talented "scene stealer". Or, if I am disappointed with the episode, which is becoming rather common, a "scene saver". Your character is as important now as it was in the movie, when it started this whole adventure. And, Daniel is as important in the series now as he was in the pilot. I respect and support any future decisions you make. Best Wishes, Hall

Not since the classic Star Trek has a sci fi show held me as spellbound & enthralled as Stargate SG.1 has for the past few years. The realism of the show, the feasibility of the storylines, the boundless possibilities reeled me in from the start. But it was the characters and their relationships that keep me coming back for more. Daniel epitomised everything that is good about humanity & it was his inate 'goodness' that tempered the military mindset of a certain Colinel which allowed Jack to share his more sensitive side as Daniel won him over. Who would ever have guessed that a friendship between two such unlikely men would become the cornerstone of the most brilliant scifi series ever aired. SG.1 showed us that the heros can be brave, strong, fearless as well as sensitive, compassionate, passive, caring, etc. Daniel was a real hero who opened up our universe and showed us that the peaceful solution must always be sought, sensitivity is an asset and the quest for knowledge & understanding is a noble one. The character of Daniel is central to the success of the series. I have been struggling this last year to understand the decline in the relationship between Daniel & Jack and I was horrified to learn that Daniel will soon be gone. I will mourn the loss of Daniel as I have mourned the loss of the most amazing friendship to ever grace our screens. I can only shake my head as I fail to comprehend the mindset of the decision makers when they decided to mess with such a winning formula. Micheal Shanks' portrayal of Dr Daniel Jackson was nothing short of spectacular - to be able to bring to life a character as complex & sensitive as Daniel is no mean feat. I will be looking out for this talented actor & await his next next project with great anticipation.Femtastic34 <donnalee@mcs.com.au>

I don't know if it is even possible to express what Daniel Brought to the show, especially in terms of his interaction with Jack. There frienship(at least in the early seasons) was an example of how close two people could be. They were more than friends, they were family. This would not have been possible without Michael Shank's work. All of us will miss your contributions to the show. A show which, frankly, is going downhill even without your loss. Despite the attempt that will be made to replace your character, no one can replace what you have given to the show, and its chemistry. Good luck in your future! Daniel will be mourned.

I'm not a loyal follower, but I do enjoy the show, and Michael moreso. All or nothing is good. (sadly) for a while, 'the smart guy' was the hero - the guy who figured out how to work the gate, and the drove the whole 'peaceful exploration' thing. Then someone somewhere decided to bring in conspiracies and military solutions. Daniel's characterization was so complex, he was 'in' scenes he wasn't even in. It was easy to figure out Daniel's mood/feelings even when he didn't speak a word. Now *that's* 'acting*. I won't miss Daniel, because I'm not watching. It isn't a matter of 'giving the show a chance'. It's a matter of TPTB not understanding WHY we watched in the first place. Thanks for making Daniel so damned real, I grieve his absence forever.

Stargate SG-1 should be about exploration, not controversy; it should focus on finding lost truths, seeking futures locked in history, and moving towards becoming the "fifth race". Daniel Jackson is vital to these paths. Everything I loved about the show was embodied by your character. The "meaning of life stuff" from Torment of Tantalus endeared me all the more to the character of Daniel Jackson. Since those early episodes you've made that character grow more than any I've ever followed on television. Yet in all that growth, that seeker of the "meaning of life" was never abandoned. The character grew because of and not in spite of that characteristic. Congratulations on a job well done, and on a part well acted.

Michael, thank you for the five years you've dedicated to Daniel Jackson and Stargate SG-1; thank you for building a brilliant character; thank you for caring about that character enough to stand up for him - I have the greatest respect and admiration for what you've chosen to do; and most of all, thank you for sharing your talent with us, both as an actor and a director. Best wishes to you and your family for the future! Take care, Tk.

Michael, Thank you for bringing Daniel into my living room each and every Friday for 5 years. Not having Jack and Daniel together will be like not having chocolate with my peanut butter! Theirs was a friendship that should have stood the test of time, and would have had things (the writers, the direction of the show...)not changed. Some say that change is good, in this case, I'll disagree until I'm blue in the face. Good luck in your future. I'm positive that what ever you decide to do, you'll excel in it as you have these past five years. You will be missed.

Michael- The character of Daniel Jackson is a wonderful, probably due as much to the way you act him as to the way he is written. Thank you for the way you have added to SG-1 over the years and I'd just like to say that I'm sorry to see you (and Daniel) leave. Still, best of luck with whatever you plan to do next.

Many thanks, Michael, the past 5 years of Stargate. It's been a pleasure to bring you into my heart and home every week. You will be truely missed and I think the show will lose that special spark that only Daniel can project. I wish you the best of luck in future projects. Michael - from the very beginning your portrayal of Dr Daniel Jackson has been both inspired and inspiring. While keeping in character with James Spader's Dr Jackson, you brought your own magic to the show which allowed the character to develop and grow. I, and many of us I know, wish you'd been given the chance to carry that through into season 6. The show is about to lose a leading light and you will be sorely missed. Thank you for what you've given us in the last five years, and for your integrity and belief now in the character, enough to walk away before seeing Daniel Jackson pushed into the background. All the best for a very bright future.

Michael-- I already blathered on ad naseum on another page so I'll try to keep this brief. Thank you so much for your portrayal of Daniel Jackson. Without question, he has been the heart and soul of Stargate SG-1. It is the show's loss that you have decided to move on. Best of luck with all future projects. Mr Shanks, I have only started watching Stargate SG-1 because my area of Eastern Canada wasn't showing the series. Global has seen the light, so to speak, and I get to watch two different season on Saturdays. :-) I just wanted to let you know that I was saddened to hear about your decision to leave SG-1. Mr. Shanks, thank you for taking the Daniel Jackson of the movie and adding dimensions unthought of before. I will no longer be watching SG-1 now that the character of Daniel Jackson is *ascending* because the chemistry between all members of the SG1 are what drew me to the show in the first place. I understand your desire to leave and the reasons and support them (not that you need anyone's support! LOL!) and I must say, I'm not enamored of the new direction of the show either. But understand the dynamics and the future plans for Stargate, SG1. I wish you the best and again, thank you for five wonderful years!

I think i speak for all when i say that your portrayal of Daniel Jackson brought a well needed 'Human' edge to the series. your character brings out the best in everyone he knows, he isnt solely concerned with the military side and he has principles. I honestly believe no one else would have been able to bring out all aspects of Daniel Jackson to the extent that you have, you will be missed. (The fact you are gorgeous didn't hurt either!!)

Hi, Michael! Thank you so much for a wonderful five years as Daniel Jackson - you'll be sorely missed. I don't know if it's fair to say I'm as frustrated as you at the direction The Powers That Be have taken your character and this very fine show, but I am disappointed nonetheless. I do understand why you've made your decision and applaud your integrity and devotion to the character you honed. The character of Daniel Jackson was so integral, it blows my mind that such clever people (TPTB) have missed the point entirely. I do hope your character will return for a few shows next season as well as the movie sequel (as was mentioned). You're very talented actor and I sincerely wish you the best in the future. Big hugs and thanks!

Dear Michael: Wanted to wish the best on your decision to move on. It didn't come as a surprise to me...your frustration at the increasing lack of good character utilization in the series was very evident. The only thing I would like to say is that I wish you that you might be aware of is how much we(or at least myself) appreciated how instead of letting that frustration make you apathetic and wooden, you let it make you a better actor. Instead of being careless with the role, yu chanelled that frustration into body language and facial expression and used it to keep Daniel from fading into the background even when he was just in the backgroun..and when he WAS the focus of attention then WOW! Thanks for giving us an opportunity to see acting skill and talent at the level of entertainment it should be. Your presence on the show will be missed and SG1 will be diminished for it. Marla

Michael, I don't think it's enough to simply say that your portrayal of Daniel Jackson will be missed. For me the main attraction of Stargate was the close interaction of the team with each other which has sadly seemed to disappear over the last 2 seasons. Your talent and enthusium will be sorely missed by the fans and I would rather that show remained as it had in the early seasons but I wish you well in all that to do in the furture. To Mr Michael Shanks: I don't think a thank-you really covers it- because it wasn't until recently when I invested in a dvd instead of video and saw how utterly different you were to your character, that I quite realised what a wonderful actor you were- not falling into the trap (that I know of...) of taking on a character just like yourself, like many young actors can do ( some do this well, but others aren't always well received as the audience is only seeing an exaggerated version of the actor him/herself). And although thank-you really feels like it isn't enough, I'll say it anyway. Thank-you for the five years ( and possibly more if you return for the movie or even just guest episodes) that you have given us as Daniel Jackson, and may 2002 bring you good fortune and many more parts *grin*. Dear Michael, Thank you so much for your passionate, intelligent portrayal of Daniel Jackson. You are to be commended for taking what could have been a stereotypical, absent-minded professor and infusing him with character and courage, making the character uniquely yours. I will miss Daniel from SG-1, and certainly my enthusiasm for the franchise is diminished with your leaving. But I understand your reasons and admire the courage of your principles. I would like to take this time to thank you for your amazing portrayal of Doctor Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1. It was a true pleasure to watch your talent at work. Thank you for providing us fans with years of entertainment. Thank you for putting everything you had into the role of Daniel Jackson and making him such a wonderful and believable character. You are a wonderful actor and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you these last five years on the show. I have also enjoyed watching your intense dramatic moments in which you drew us into Daniel's world and showed us how he was feeling when words weren't enough to express his deep emotions (ie. the storage closet scene in "Need", the scenes in "Legacy" when he was in the padded room...there are so many wonderful scenes and intense moments that I could never list them all). Thank you so much for providing viewers like me with a character that we can relate to, a character we can cheer for, a character who uses his heart and his intelligence to solve problems instead of always resorting to weapons and violence. Michael, I would like to thank you for the five wonderful years you have given us in your protrayal of Daniel. I read somewhere, I think it was in a RDA interview, that "they" thought if anyone had the potential to make it "big" in show business it was you. I'm sure I'm not the only one who agrees and it's comforting to know that "they" possessed good judgement once...it's too bad they lost their way. You took the character of Daniel, made it your own, and gave the show it's heart and soul. Daniel was, is and will stay my favorite character and I do believe that Stargate without Daniel isn't Stargate. I'm sad that the show had took a new direction and I would like it to go back the way it was and more than anything, I would like that the character of Daniel stays on the show. It can look stupid, but I'm feeling a bit as if I was about to losing a friend ... Nothing will be the same now ... I also would like to wish all my best to Michael, good luck on your future project ; you are a very good actor, therefore I hope that your gonna find something "else" soon, same if I would have prefer that you stay on Stargate, but I perfectly understand your decision and I respect that. Michael, I wish nothing but good things for you in what I am sure will be a great career. I am saddened by the loss of Daniel from SG1 as I believe that he is the lynchpin of the series. Daniel Jackson: explorer, intellectual squirrel, interpreter and protector of ancient and alien cultures. Michael, your Daniel has been our anthro/archaeo Frodo, an apparently self-effacing common guy with unfathomable strength, the voice of reason in the military, and the heart of SG1. You took the character of Daniel and made him your own: complex and caring, steadfast in purpose, growing in strength and maturity, and immovable in matters of personal conviction. I loved both Stargate the movie and SG1 because the main character was an archaeologist, because of the focus on other places and cultures, because of SG1's Teal'c, struggling to understand our own alien culture, and because of the Daniel and Jack dynamic, which was all about redemption and friendship--or used to be. I can't stand conspiracy shows, politics, budget issues (how boring!) and coldhearted military stuff. I guess, pragmatism(!) aside, the Stargate saga ends with Meridian. Yet: tops on my tv wishlist: that the PTBs will stop transmogrifying SG1 and instead take it back to its roots-- meaningful storylines such as Cold Lazarus, Fire and Water, and the Torment of Tantalus (didn't that one make everyone think of the Rosetta stone!!)--and bring you back. BTW: great job in Andromeda. You are a very expressive and talented actor; best of luck with whatever new directions you pursue. I'm sure you've a bright future ahead.Peggy <Yrye3stars@aol.com>
