There is a definate difference and the fans are the ones to notice. Daniel Jackson made that difference and I hope someone decides to make some changes before the number of viewers drop any lower.

You've ascended Daniel, like or hate - it's done. Now use it. I'd love to see Daniel back for the movie, for future episodes and for the spinoff.
I started watching SG1 because of the Stargate Movie & how much growth and care I saw between Daniel & Jack. I kept watching because I fell in love with the team. Season 1 - 3 was wonderful with few exceptions. For whatever reason, you decided to pull a 180 in season 4 and gave us only a few great episodes. The team interaction, caring, and the use of everyone's different perspectives and talents declined to an almost non-existant level in season 5.
Deliver more episodes like Abyss and you'll get me back as a viewer. Don't & I'll turn the channel.

I loved the movie Stargate. Although the ending turned into one of those standard Hollywood shootouts, it had a great premise, great writing, and great characters, not to mention two superb actors in James Spader and Kurt Russell.
When the SG-1 series was created I was wary, but it turned out well and the new actors made the characters their own. Richard Dean Anderson was cute as MacGyver, but Jack O'Neill has proven a better challenge for him. Michael Shanks was quite unknown before but has turned out beautifully. Jack and Daniel are my favorites, yet I have also become fond of Carter and Teal'c. The team dynamic was an integral part of my interest as a viewer.
So, for awhile there, you had a loyal fan. Using the Stargate to visit new worlds and encounter new adventures was equivalent to the best episodes of the X-files - investigating every freaky supernatural idea under the sun, moon or stars. Where the X-files failed for me was in the conspiracy story arc. Sheesh, what a bore. It was pretty demoralizing to see the same thing starting to take over SG-1.
But what made me stop watching was the loss of the best character and actor on the whole show. I can't bear to watch SG-1 any longer, although I did catch last night's "Abyss." Together, Daniel and Jack were great. On the other hand, who for the love of Pete likes that annoying Jonas character? Daniel is a unique and wonderful character of the kind rarely seen in movies or TV shows, and until he is back on the team, I won't be tuning in.

I have been a faithful viewer of Stargate SG-1 from the beginning. What attracted me to the show was the relationship between the characters, especially Jack and Daniel.
I have tried to remain impartial about Mr. Shanks' questionable departure from the series. I've even tried to accept the 'replacement' character of Jonas. I, unlike many of my SG-1 friends, have watched the first five episodes of the sixth season in their entirety. I told myself that it was a new series and that the show I had adored ended after five seasons.
Last night, the series that I loved, returned in "Abyss". Mr. Wright's script captured the essence of what made the original team so special. The acting was terrific, especially the exchanges between Jack and Daniel. Both characters were perfect. It seemed like old times.
Thank you for doing what was needed to bring back the team that I've loved. I hope that there are more opportunities to see them again in the future.
I'll continue to watch the current Stargate, but without the chemistry between Jack and Daniel, it will not carry the excitement and anticipation that I felt last night or the previous five seasons.
Thank you for your time.

In the half-century or so since the television became a part of our lives, only two programs have ever succeeded in surpassing its "parent's" appeal and popularity. The first one was MASH. And that program managed to last over 3 times as long as the Korean War itself. As the series evolved, so did the depth of the characters and the humanity of the writing. After 11 years, the final episode drew the largest viewing audience EVER for a single broadcast, a record which, to the best of my knowledge, stands today. The only other series to approach the thin air of this height has been Stargate SG1. How has this been done? By presenting elements we all recognize and identify with in our own lives as characters we can like, trust, and admire. This balance was NOT acheived in the original movie. While the concept and premise of the movie was fresh and intriguing, the character dynamics were skeletal at best. The series, however, has a treasurechest of personality contrasts, interactions, loyalties, and frictions, the kind people have to deal with every day. Consider:
Major Carter- as smart and logical as we all would like to be. Tough, yet vulnerable enough to need an arm around her shoulders once in a while.
T'Ulk- {don't know the spelling on that} No nonsense strength and devotion to duty. He's the soldier we'd all like next to us in a fight. And the friend we'd like to be seen as.
Jack O'Neal- Not necessarily the smartest or the strongest. He's a leader because he knows what he doesn't know- and isn't embarassed about it. He doesn't envy the strengths of others, he's grateful for them. He's the cynic with the sense of humor who keeps us smiling and the ball rolling.
Dr. Daniel Jackson- Here is the one character from the movie who has made a successful transition to the home screen. He kept his movie persona and added depth and breadth to his soul. He's the consience, the hopeful voice, the sense of wonder which keeps even the mundane a part of the adventure. He communicates with new peoples and trys to understand them in their own light. He reminds us how important is the difference between right and wrong. His are the civilized elements residing inside each of us. They bear the power to enrich the quality of life; our own, as well as those around us. And yes, we need to be reminded of that fact, too.
I don't believe any single facet outweighs the others. I believe it takes all of these qualities and perspectives to bring the substance and texture we have come to know as SG1. I don't know how you could present less than the balance described above and not find yourself looking for a wheelchair or a crutch or a seeing eye dog.
Please, don't create a handicap. Let SG1 resume a full and (viewer)rewarding life.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,

I think the loss of Dr. Daniel Jackson aka Michael Shanks from Stargate this current season is a really poor decision. Daniel is the heart and soul and al ot of the brains of SG-1. We miss him.
Thank you for the one episode coming up with Michael. However, I really would like to see him return full time.
Jack seems to be lacking something without Daniel.
Jonas is okay, but is not acceptable.

First of all, I miss Daniel too !!! A lot ! I know a lot of you don't want to hear this and beleave me if I say I would love to have Daniel back, but if Micheal wants to quit we should respect that. He gave us a lot of fun, heart and spirite. We should treasure this and thank him for the great time he was with us ! I will never forget him, thats for shure :) ! Just give the new guy a chance! He can't replace Daniel of course, but he could also become a treasurable member of the team. Time will tell.

I used to do that, you know, back when SG-1 was still SG-1 and not SG-0.75. I used to count the days till I could watch a new, undubbed ep on squinty asf (I don't get to watch the original episodes where I live). I used to haunt the local video stores and bug the shop assistants to be there first when the new episodes came out (where I live, they come out on video first, then they are aired on TV). And I used to haunt the stores to catch the very first delivery of DVDs.
But then Daniel ascended, I and stopped counting and haunting. The beginning of Season 6 came and went, and I did not even check the sites to see if there were asf-files of the new episodes for me to watch. The shop assistants in the video stores have forgotten my face. I stopped counting the days, and I stopped caring. I won't buy Season 6 DVDs. Thanks for saving me money, by the way, TPTB.
New spoilers of episodes left me cold when, back in the old days, I eagerly awaited each and every new tidbit of information. So Jack's a Tok'ra? I don't care. Daniel's not with the show anymore, what's it to me? And don't even get me started on JonASS. He's not Daniel. End of story.
But now, the old enthusiasm is back. Almost. I can't help being aware that, after I finally, finally watch the ep on squinty, I can go back to not caring. Daniel won't descend in Abyss, so whatever happens next doesn't interest me. I'll rent one video, and I'll buy one DVD. The rest can go rot for all I care.
That's the difference between SG-1 and SG-0.75 cum JonASS.
TPTB, are you getting it yet?

Our family would like to see, that the caracter Dr. Daniel Jackson should be put back in the show in Stargate SG-1, maybe bring him back on flashbacks or reincarnate him or something.
We were very upset not seeing him in the series anymore. We are not as intrested in the series without him. The show lacks integrity whitout him. He looks to have that certain genius, and the right kind of humor, that was in balance with the other actors, like a close family.
The new charactor is alright, but lacks the scientific look of a computer guru. We never miss a show, we love the series, but we really do think the show now lacks that perfect balance, that it once had. We compare the show to the qualities of Star Trek. We think that your show, and Star Trek, have that magic that makes the dreams real. We would like to add our voice to those wishing to see Michael Shanks back on the show. Thank you for providing such excellent entertainment for us to enjoy, in the making of SG-1.

I can't believe you have caused one of the most favorite characters of a show to leave. Actually yes I can. The last few years we were lucky to have any decent dialogue between the characters. I can't believe lines were wasted on Jack's lovely quips.
When I have heard that maybe a spin off show was in the works, I thought great Daniel Jackson will be getting his own show. I was shocked to hear that Michael Shanks was leaving the show. But only until I heard the reasons and agreed with them. I guess you really think the fans of the show would not notice the stupid plots and stories. After all it shouldn't matter to us, the fans, that the show would loss its uniqeness because the studio wanted more younger viewers who wouldn't care if there was any dialogue.
Bring back Daniel and your viewership will increase.

Apart from trying to analyze the particulars of each character's role, perhaps the reason that the show had become our favorite was that we felt that the characters had developed an immersive chemistry as a team, not just a group of individual. Taking out Daniel is kind of like killing off Luke Skywalker or Han Solo in StarWars, it just isn't the same. I hope you'll reconsider and bring Daniel Jackson back (and I mean Michael Shanks, bringing back someone else as Daniel Jackson, just wouldn't work at all.)
Thank you for considering the return of Daniel Jackson.

I would like to express my great dissatisfaction in regards to the removal of the character 'Daniel Jackson' in the Stargate SG1 series. This loss presents itself as an unnecessary shame that has so negatively affected fans throughout my Australian community.
The removal of Michael Shanks and his character Daniel Jackson will permanently scar the feel of the show. The fact is, the foundation of the entire series rests upon the four characters that create the SG1 team - as it has been from square one.
Daniel's declining involvement in the episodes did not go unnoticed and it is easy to understand how this influenced Michael's initial ideas to leave the show. As an actor in such a successful series one can see how, in his own words "sitting on the bench" was simply un-gratifying. As a member of the management I am sure you can see that his decision was a direct result of your actions.
What I can't understand is why your team would bring this upon themselves when it could be so easily resolved. What is the benefit of losing such an important, key factor, of the shows ongoing success? It only seems a feasible course of action to remove a character from a very successful show when circumstances leave no other alternative. Both myself and fans of my community agree that you actually have no problem that can't be easily rectified, except for the one you are creating for yourselves.
Michael Shanks and his character Daniel Jackson ARE CRUCIAL to the ongoing success of the series. Unlike viewers of soapies etc, I can assure you that fans of a Sci-fi WILL NOT be persuaded in anyway, to accept such a negative change. The four characters, including Daniel are the strict foundation of the show and of its fans loyalty. Michael's character has just as much to offer the series as any other character; my mind goes wild as I start to imagine ideas. As part of the team responsible for the shows creation you should review your decision, return Daniel Jackson's character and use it to its fullest. This way, everybody wins.
Yours sincerely, Luke Harrington (a dedicated fan of SG1, for now anyway)

After that Sky proceeded to play every episode from the beginning @ 6pm every day and I was hooked!
James Spader was good, but Michael Shanks took the character a step further. His interaction with Richard, Christopher and Amanda cracks me up.
SG1 is a quartet. The new season in the UK will bomb without him.

I just wanted to thank you for the episode Abyss. The inclusion of the character Daniel Jackson made this episode a true bright spot in the current season. The interaction between Daniel and Jack was marvellous, very reminiscent of seasons two and three. In many ways, it was like coming home after a long trip!
Please consider including Daniel Jackson in future episodes of Stargate -- without him, the show is constantly lacking something vital.

Abyss was great. I had my doubts, but there was so much energy and, well, life in the dialogue and in the characters that I could almost forget that Daniel was dead. It was a joy to see Teal'c speak in whole sentences! It was also great to see Jack back to his sharp, sarcastic self instead of just bored and along for the ride as he has become lately. These were strong proactive characters not cowed by 'bureaucracy' and frustrated by 'treaties'. And we actually got to leave Earth. WOW. I want more of these episodes. Unfortunately, there is always a black cloud. It seems the writers have split Sam's character in half in order to give face time to Jonas. He just doesn't fit. That entire "duh" scene in which he postulates on why Jack ended up in Baal's fortress was way overplayed. You did everything but light a neon sign saying "bright idea". Come on! We saw that one coming a mile of pages away. It was also really grating when he said the paragraph that should have come from Sam! (It was the same with the whole get-rid-of-the-gate idea in this season's first episode. That whole thing should have come from Sam. And the restaurant scene last week - eeew.)
I really wanted to like Jonas because I liked Corin Nemec in Parker Lewis, and I wanted to give the guy a chance, but Jonas is a waste of screen. It is also highly infuriating that women are still being denigrated in order to aggrandize mediocre men. I really loved Stargate, and will tune in whenever Daniel comes back, because there is a chance I will see the TEAM back together, but I just can't stomach this Sam-can't think-without-Jonah-to-inspire-her thing week after week - even in order to see Teal'c speak or Hammond roar.
Sincerely,
Jeanie Martinez

So thank you, Mr. Wright, for writing this episode. The only downside to it was that it only hightlighted with a honkin' big flashing neon sign what we once had in Stargate and now have no longer.
I've searched in vain on this web site to find some information as to when Michael Shanks will return to Stargate. It seems there are no other scripts written with Daniel in them. It's our loss, but it's yours too, because I'm leaving as well, and I'm sure there will be many fans following me. I'll continue to come back here to see if there is any news about Michael Shanks returning; if he comes back, so will I as a viewer. But if not, there are plenty of other networks out there, and I won't be watching SciFi on Friday nights. But thanks for the memories.

Added to this was the great story. I was interested from the moment that I tuned in. I was expecting to either FF to the Jack and Daniel scenes or suffer through the rest of the ep until the Jack and Daniel scenes. I was drawn in at the very beginning, just like I used to be, and I watched the entire episode.
My regrets about this episode: First, too much of the story went on off screen. I would have been a bit lost as to how O’Neill came to be snaked if I hadn’t been keeping up with the spoilers on-line (and I acknowledge that a lot DID go on in this episode so it would have been very difficult to add additional information). Jack being “Tokra’ed” after making it very clear over the past years how he felt about the Tokra would have made for an extremely intense, Jack centric episode all by itself. That could have lead up to Abyss and been an intense 2-parter! I would have loved to see that.
I regret that we didn’t get to see Daniel interact with Sam or Teal’C (except for the “possibility” that Daniel planted the rescue idea in their minds). If Daniel had been able to “visit” with the rest of his team I would truly have been in Stargate SG-1 heaven.
Another regret of mine is Daniel being relegated to a peripheral role outside the team in Stargate SG-1. Daniel not being human and with the team is not my idea of the “Real” Stargate SG-1. The BEST dynamic has been Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal’C together going on adventures through the gate and caring about each other. That is not possible with the current format.
Note to Brad Wright: You wrote this fantastic episode. You have written many wonderful, true Stargate SG-1 episodes in the past. I have no doubt that, with efforts made to resolve the issues that are hindering a full return of Michael Shanks to the show as Daniel, in human form and with the team, you can write Daniel back in easily. It certainly would not be a difficult task for a writer of your talent. It would be in the best interest of this show and its future!
There is real talent in Michael Shanks as well as Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and Chris Judge and the supporting cast. With the palpable chemistry of the four original actors in place you would have no concern about the show’s success. I am, of course, speaking only for myself, my family and my friends who feel the same as I do. I suspect that there are many, many more people of like opinion out there.
Please consider opening your mind to what the fans are saying. We are the ones who made your show a success in the past and can do it again if you bring back the show that we loved! Growth and evolution of characters is appropriate and keeps an idea energized and moving forward. Scraping a major portion of the premise to substitute a completely different approach may be beneficial if you have a project that has failed or is failing. This was not the case with Stargate SG-1. You had a winner. Why did you need a “fresh new perspective”? More of an effort should have been made to keep Michael Shanks on and the team intact.
My final regret is that it could be a long time, if ever, before I have the opportunity to see any part of the fantastic “Team” (and I do mean “ORIGINAL TEAM”) dynamic or the Jack & Daniel friendship again.
Addressing the issue of Jonas Quinn.
Sam, Teal’C, Hammond, Frasier and all the rest of the cast had a fantastic dynamic once I don’t see that in the scenes with Sam, Teal’C and Jonas Quinn. This is the first time that I have watched Jonas as part of the cast. Since I didn’t like that character in Meridian I was expecting to have difficulty watching the “new team” parts of Abyss. I was afraid that I would feel hate, resentment, or, at least, considerable dislike for this character. I found that didn’t hate Jonas. It probably would have spoken better for the character if I had some kind of reaction to him even if it was negative. I felt nothing. All the reports that I have read about Jonas on the show coming across as “flat” appear to have been right. That is how I felt about the scenes with JQ. Flat. Even Sam and Teal’C could not liven up those scenes up for me.
I admit that I am one of those fans who did see the culpability of Jonas in the death of Daniel and how he was treated by Jonas and his people as he was dying. And, as in life, when a loved one is lost by the actions of another, I have been finding it hard to forget and forgive this character. I have been nurturing that negative emotion since May when I saw Meridian. I had all the ingredients in place to really HATE this character when I saw him again. I need not have worried. The character was so neutral and flat that I hardly had any reaction to him at all. I don’t see this as a good thing for Stargate SG-1.
And, may I ask whose idea it was to trash what looks this character had (He was not bad looking in Meridian)? This new look (I don’t know what to call it) is not attractive and does ABSOLUTELY nothing for me.
After seeing Abyss and finally watching Jonas Quinn on SG-1 in his 6th episode of the new season and his 7th appearance with the show, I can say, without any malice in my words, Jonas Quinn cannot fill Daniel’s shoes. He does not have the charisma or the right personality to blend with this team and bring that special “something” to the show the way that Daniel did. After 7 episodes there should have been some recognizable integration of this character into the fabric of the show. There are recurring characters and quest stars with more “punch” than Jonas. James Spader established a strong connection in two hours in the Stargate movie. Michael Shanks had me hooked on the “new Daniel” in two hours in the series premier. Jonas has had 7 hours to get it right. Enough said. In Conclusion: Thanks to Brad Wright for writing this wonderful episode and bringing Jack and Daniel back together for us. A Big thanks to Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks for recreating Jack and Daniel so skillfully and enjoyably. I will add this episode to my treasured collection and continue to hope that we will see the return of Daniel to the show so that we can have our beloved Stargate SG-1 team and show back again.
For now, I, my family and my friends will be signing off until we hear that Daniel has returned again.
Until then, Sharyn, family and friends.

My wife and I have watched Stargate SG-1 since the first season and I definitely have to say that I am quite disappointed in the turn of events regarding the show's direction and loss of the best character the show had to offer.
"Daniel Jackson" was and is our favorite character on Stargate. He was the heart and soul of the SG1. He brought wisdom, faith, intelligence, and individuality into the SG1 family. With out this character we do not see a sense of direction or purpose of the show.
My wife actually only watched the show because of this great character. Not to mention the fact that he is considered a sex symbol to many of the female fans.
We sincerely hope that Michael Shanks is asked to return to the Stargate family and that there will be a bright future for Daniel Jackson. This new season just isn't what Stargate SG1 is all about.

I am a devoted Sci Fi fan and have been watching SG-1 for several years now (and the movie). Since the demise of Daniel Jackson, I have not watched another episode. There was a chemistry that will be lost with the absence of his character and like so many other shows, Earth Final Conflict or X-Files for example, losing a main character causes the show to loose some of its original appeal. It is never recaptured and the show loses its audiance. The X-Files is a prime example as no one could step into Mulder's shoes. This is the same with Daniel Jackson. He knows things and comes across like none of the other characters. This over time will make the show less appealing and its ratings will decline and eventually be canceled. Hopefully this can be averted as there are very few good Sci Fi shows left to watch.
Sincerely,

I still can't stand Jonass. But not just because of his role on Stargate. I would find him boring and unattractive no matter what program he would be on and I don't know what it is about his voice but I'd rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard. Thank God for FF on my remote!
Now all TPTB need to do would be to remove Jonass, ascend Daniel, and keep writing good scripts. But since they are a little slow in understanding the differences between a good thing (with Daniel) and a bad thing (with Jonass) I don't have a lot of confidence that this will happen. Judging by thier past actions they will probably try to credit the high ratings for the show to RDA and Jonass instead of Michael Shanks. Even though RDA and Jonass could not generate high ratings up to this point.
Well I'm back to watching reruns until the next "Daniel" episode. And I want to thank the individuals who maintain this website for doing such a good job keeping the fans informed on Stargate developments.

Just wanted to drop a line and say, THANK YOU for a wonderful episode ("Abyss.") I have been looking forward to this one for a long time, since it would be guest starring Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson--and the interactions between his character and Richard Dean Anderson'sO'Neill was dead-on, energized, humorous in some parts, and heartbreaking in others. In short, we finally got to see, after a LONG time, the initial deep friendship between these very two different men, the one that attracted so many of us in the beginning. Michael Shanks and RDA very clearly work well with and feed off one another--a very unique and amazing creative enterprise to watch.
Thank you for bringing back the "original" O'Neill as well--sarcastic, stubborn, yet intelligent, with a conscience. I've missed him. I've missed the WHOLE team.
I think the writers really tried to address a lot of viewer's concerns with this episode as well, by having the characters actually discussing the new situation (i.e., the death of Daniel, O'Neill's resentment of Daniel's choice to ascend, along with the pain of losing him--evident in RDA's line at the end, "Why don't you stick around for awhile?" Daniel even mentions Jonas, which must have been hard for Michael Shanks personally, since this character is the one who essentially "replaced" him--but as usual, he delivered the line with his usual aplomb and dignity.
I do hope you realize how thrilled original fans (meaning the demographic of older, professional, intellectual folks and NOT the young men cruising the channels to watch hot chicks with guns) were with this episode, and that you understand just how powerful and inspiring an actor Michael Shanks is. There is no doubt in my mind that Stargate SG1 can continue with many more seasons if Shanks is reinstated--with substantial storylines, along with the hard work and thoughtfulness of the writers, regarding the entire wonderful cast who has been under-utilized and dumbed down.
Thanks again for a memorable episode. BRING BACK MICHAEL SHANKS!!!
Sincerely, The Kallio Family

This brings me to my next comments. PLEASE do WHATEVER it takes to make sure Michael Shanks comes back as Daniel for those final episodes with a meaty part just like tonight (and the movie, if there is to be one.). With "Abyss", it just goes to demonstrate how much he brings to this show.
I look forward to more high-quality, well written episodes and the return of a beloved character and a fine actor. Again, congratulations to all on such a fine effort with tonight's episode!

I just finished watching Abyss on the Scifi Channel(and I was even nice enought to watch the first 10 minutes of Farscape just to show Bonnie Hammer what having Daniel back could do for it's ratings:)
WOW!
OMG it was like someone turned on the lights, switched on the power and charged up the batteries and life and energy went rushing back into Stargate:SG1 again! It was the show I remember back in the begining when I couldn't wait to sit down every friday evening and watch it!
This episode rocked and it I have to admit it was mostly due to Richard Dean Anderson's stunning performance in this episode.
Now THAT was the Jack O'Neill I remember from seasons 1 thru 3 and few good moments in season 4. The one I couldn't wait to watch every friday as well. The Jack O'Neill that was an amazingly perfect mix of strength, feistiness and sarcasm. The one that I believed a team would follow to pergatory and back. It was so good to see him again..I thought he had gotten lost forever! The one the Asguard named a ship after not because they thought it was cool name LOL!
And no this had nothing to do with Michael Shanks being back..this had everything to do with RDA's conscience choice to breathe life back into Jack O'Neill to make him the incredibly complex and realistic character he started out as under RDA's talents and skills as an actor way back when. Thought I have a feeling that having a actor he trusts as much as he trusts Michael played a part in it. You could really see what RDA was talking about in his recent interview discussing Abyss.
And talk about breathing life back into something..Michael Shanks return as Daniel Jackson was like..well like energy flooding back into the show and charging it back up! The spark and chemistry between Michael and RDA as two talented actors who work well off of each other is undeniable. The Jack/Daniel friendship was at it's most compelling in this episode. Their scenes together were outstanding!
Thanks to Brad Wright for penning this script. Many of my favorite episodes of SG1 have been written by Brad and he certainly didn't let me down this time either. Even more thanks to RDA for turning in such a tour de force performance and for ..at least this one last time..bringing back the Jack O'Neill I love and alway found so amazing to watch.
And thanks to Michael Shanks for knowing what Daniel should be and caring enough to make sure we always get a quality character out of him:)
This episode only proved that Stargate SG1 can be an awesome show again and that Daniel Jackson/Michael Shanks is an important element of that. It also proved that BW is still capable of being a driving creative writing force to be reckoned with and that RDA can still be a dynamic and talented actor(this one should get him back that Saturn Nomination/win)
Most of all, it proves it's not to late to make it happen..to bring Daniel Jackson back for good where he belongs..as part of SG1 on the physical plane of existance.

Just saw Abyss. It. Kicked. ASS!!! Completely. What the HECK were you people thinking letting Michael Shanks walk?
Noticed the following:
1. I've discovered why Jonas is annoying -- he's there to repair Sam's tragic decent into "Exposition Grrl" Syndrome by becoming Exposition Boieee.
2. Always a pleasure to give the Tok'Ra a smackdown.
3. Daniel, Daniel, Daniel.
4. Banter. Jack and Daniel. I like it. More, please.
5. Hammond being Hammond.
6. Teal'c with LINES and stuff.
7. What's up with the opening credits? Damn thing looks like it's a shoot-em-up show, not the Stargate I remember and enjoy.
Jonas is still annoying, but if it helps Sam to be a cool character again, I guess I can deal -- except, oh wait, I forgot -- I won't be watching anymore of Season 6 till Michael as Daniel is back full time.
Peace, and well done with this episode. It's about freakin' time.

You have already been addressed by both of my daughters, and now it is my turn. Needless to say what fans all over the world have expressed in so many ways. Your idea to basically kick Daniel/Michael off the show was a bad one. I understand that in the end the decision was his, but he was forced wasn't he? He didn't have much of a choice, did he? You don't find many actors so loyal to their characters as Shanks is.
I heard Anderson is retiring. So what will become of the SG-1 team? Don't tell me you are going to give Teal'c and Sam the boot too. Here's a suggestion. Have Daniel come back, in some form or another, and reunite with his team mates. Do a spin-off show or something. Have them back together doing what they have done incredibly well for the last 5 years (this 6th season I haven't watched and from what I heard, is not worth watching).
You signed Shanks on to do "Abyss". That is one show from the sixth season everyone is going to watch. Your view ratings will go up and then come right back down once there is Daniel no more. DO yourself and the show a favor. Put him back on for the rest of the season, and if you are going to continue the show without Anderson (because Anderson really isn't as much of the backbone as you and the writers {or some of them] make him out to be. The Stargate Project wouldn't have begun if not for Daniel), put Daniel back in.
Do yourself justice, the show justice and the fans. For it seems you have showed no interest for what the fans think or want, and that is crazy because we are the reasons why you have the money in your pocket. Be Wise, for once. You were in the first 5 seasons of Stargate.

As it has been brought to my attention, from the females in my life, Daniel Jackson and Teal'c are the two best looking males in the stargate series. It wouldn't only be a shame to loose a highly valuable member of the SGC as well as a large group of fond female followers in destroying the Stargate program.
SG1 wouldn't be complete without their linguist and anthropologist. Daniel Jackson is without a doubt the most important character in the Stargate series. He interprets, communicates and negotiates with other civilisations, no other member of the SG teams or few people in the world have his very unique skills and attributes. Removing him from the series, in my opinion as a loyal and dedicated fan, who has not and shall not miss an episode, believe it would be series suicide!!
For example, several other television series have removed irriplacible characters and have not lived to tell the tale... I, for one and millions of others, wouldn't like to see reruns of crappy shows in place of our favourite weekly time slot. I would be severly dissapointed to see one of my favourite members of SG1 slaughtered so violently off our screens!!! and just in case you choose to remove Daniel Jackson from the SGC, I believe it would be a greater loss and devistation than a foothold situation with the Goa'uld.
P.S. So if that is what you choose I would like to express my condolences to all of SG1.

I am just wondering what was going threw there minds when this happened, were they all daydreaming or what. Daniel is one of the most important members of the team who was there from the original movie plot. It's not the same without Daniel on the show. I hope this will do some good for Daniel.
P.S. I have taled to some of may friends and family the are all shocked with the removal of Daniel and the lack of support that (MGM) and SciFi have shown for the fans of the show STARGATE SG1/DANIEL JACKSON PLEASE REINSTATE DANIEL JACKSON!!!!!!!!

Furthermore, I'm very disappointed. OK, I understand Michael wanna do something else (and I'm surely not the only one to think he's totally able to do it), but, if he really respected not only the show, but its/his fans, he would have continue SG-1 until its end. There was just one more season. That's why I'm disappointed.
And if this site says "let go" Mr "Col. Jack", we all say "don't". At the end of each season, I waited with a ibg impatience for the beginning of the next one. But now... I'm not angry with Michael's decision, I'm just disappointed.
I think I've been too hard with Jonas, but I still think he will NEVER replace Daniel. For now, I'm waiting for the 6th season. And even if I don't know what will happen, I just can say in advance : WE MISS YOU, DANIEL.

I feel that it is a major mistake killing off Daniel Jackson. He broughtthe show to life. He really countered Jack's personality and had the right combination of humor and smarts. Without him I think that the show will lose ratings and will eventually be cancelled.
Jonus is a good character, but should be on there as frequently as Jacob.
There is room for charactor development with Daniel Jackson. I just wanted to express my opinion. I am sure that you are recieving simular opinions and if I were you I would listen to the fans because we are the one's who keep Stargate on the air.

But as the seasons progressed that original premise seemed to unravel and the dynamics of our favorite team of explorers diminished. The viewers began to see less and less of our team working together - missions that required the abilities of all four members to get the job done enterwined with fabulous displays of their own unique personality quirks.
Did we stop watching? Of course not, we caught glimpses of that dynamics here and there and had faith that the detour would eventually return us to the series place of origin. Unfortunately, it did not.
Season Six is to be the final season of Stargate SG-1 and it would be a true shame to let it go out on such a sour note after its long, successful run. All that seems to be required is a return to the true flavor of the series and our team can be reunited.
If not, it has already become quite clear to this viewer that the series I fell in love ended months before SG-1 will take that final weekly walk through the Stargate.
Sincerely,

Tune in to see Daniel doing his ascended best to help Jack? You bet I will. And do you know why? Because in that single hour, regardless of how much screen time the two of them get, I know I will see more of STARGATE than I have in the episodes of this season so far. And do you know why? Because these two actors together are Stargate, always have been always will be.
I get the feeling from reading spoilers and whatnot that someone intended this episode to be a last hurrah, goodbye, placatory offering up of Daniel in hopes we would all get with the program and learn to adore this new verson once and for all. I get an even stronger feeling things will not be going quite to plan. But, Mr. Wright, please believe I do thank you for it. Whatever happens in the episode, or in the future of this series, a visit to the true Stargate SG1 will be more than welcome.
Maybe the new direction suits those who never really liked Daniel in the first place, but you know what? That new direction will kill this show. Piece by painful piece it is dying, because someone somewhere for got one very important thing. You can't capture lightning in a bottle more than once. You had it, you blew it, and this pitiful attempt to recreate the experiment (Season 6) will only result in burned fingers and singed reputations. It's already happening, boys, take a good look around.

Well, I hope someone out there is listening...WE MISS DANIEL!!! While I adore each of the characters in the show, each one adds their unique part to the mix. The show isn't the same without one of its' primary cornerstones. Daniel was my favorite aspect to the group, adding the thrill of discovery to each episode, the innocence of being civilian and not military, and the hope of finding something wonderful out there. But he's right...Michael mentioned that his character's part was getting weaker and weaker. The original formula worked, and the writers should fix that and bring back Daniel and put his character back in the forefront of the series! I hope they're listening!!! :)

The series is not the same without Daniel. Jonas is just okay. I feel the series had a good formula with the original characters and actors. Why ruin perfection?? I, for one, will watch the Abyss episode, however, if Daniel does not come back, I will not be watching Stargate.
Also, the series was better on Showtime without the commercials. In addition, to put the series on SciFi without showing the five seasons prior does a disservice to the series.

Daniel is a crucial character, he's one from the movie. You can't just replace him by an alien or a robot like this Jonath (or something).
I hope you will read all our messages and bring Daniel back.

We were dubious as ever, about the casting of new actors to play the familiar parts of Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson, however once we started watching the show we were overjoyed to see just how good (different, but good) Richard Dean Anderson was as Jack O'Neill, and we were completely amazed at how exactly like James Spader's version Michael Shanks was. Things were looking good.
As the years progressed the series became our most important view for each week. You know, the one program you do NOT miss whatever. The characters were simply wonderful (with Jack and Daniel being the best two), the stories were great (mostly), and the action, emotion and visual effects were astounding. At the core of this appeal to us was the friendship/ teasing relationship between Jack and Daniel. You could actually see the respect slowly growing within Jack for Daniel, considering how he always thought of him as 'a nerd'. It was very well portrayed and written.
The second most important part of the show, was the feeling of exploration, of going to (if you'll pardon the use of star trek language..) strange new worlds. Yes, the action was great, and yes the ongoing threat was always interesting, but it was always the discovery that excited us the most. Like in the movie, the discovery that ancient Egypt wasn't exactly how we had previously thought it to be... and then discovering something similar on a whole other world? Amazing.
Key to this sense of discovery was Daniel Jackson (it was he who was responsible to figuring out the original Stargate after all, and therefore 'his' film). Some of the best episodes were of Daniel 'communicating' with new species, or working to resolve whatever the problem of the week was. Removing this core character simply does not make sense.
Perhaps a more appropriate title for the series would be 'Daniel + Jack: The adventures of the Stargate'
Replacing Daniel with a new character, and therefore a cheaper actor will lose you viewers. Fact. We have already decided to make the final episode of the last series our true series end. We will not be watching any more.
Unless Daniel comes back.... that is.
