Daniel is one of the main characters in this show and is personally my favorite character. Michael Shanks is an excelent actor and really brings out the character Daniel. Without Daniel in the show they might as well cancel the show. He is SO important!! He is the brains and knowhow and without him everyone would be lost. If it wasn't for him,the rest of SG-1 would never have gotten through many of their dangerous adventures. Please keep Dr.Daniel Jackson (aka Michael Shanks) a part of SG-1!!Raquel Brown <Bobogurl2088@aol.com>

Dear Sir:The actor who portrays Daniel Jackson has brought a lot of insight to this role. He is part of the team! If he is removed it would not be the same. The personality mixes, the insights of each team member would be affected. I feel that he should remain. Thank you for your valuable time.

I'm a great fan of "Stargate" and - fortunately - the episodes we're now seeing in Germany are still with Daniel Jackson. I can't imagine Stargate without him.
All leading chararcters are important, they built a perfect team. Without Daniel Jackson the team and its spirit is somehow destroyed.
So PLEASE, let him return to the series and - even more important - we all want to see him in the Stargate-Film!!!

Daniel Jackson character, compliments Col. Oneal's. Together they add the humor that so many love in this show. Since his departure, the humor that I loved so much about Col. Oneal is lacking. Don't get me wrong, I love the show and the characters. Jonas has added a special endearing quality, but add Daniel Jackson back and sky is the limit. I have always been a Star Trek, Star Wars fan, but SG1 has captured my devotion. Keep up the great work, and I hope to see this show around for years to come. howdy
I've been watching this show since the second it began. After a while
I even got my dad involved. I love the show, but lately I haven't had the stomach for it. It's sad to me that the show could lose so much
by loosing just one member but it has. I have nothing against the new character, however I feel that he is not capable of replacing the gap left
by Daniel Jackson. I feel like my favorite show is going to collapse because of this new change. I certaintly don't watch it like I used to because its just not
as interesting to me anymore. I watched it for team interaction and that seems to have left with daniel. I am not a MS fan, in terms of it's my favorite character.
I watch Sg-1 for SG-1 and its just not what it was nemore. The change isn't good. I dont want to loose my show because of this.
does anyone know why MS left the show? I hope that it is not something that can not be changed or fixed. We need DannyBoy back!k.c

hi.well i was upset to hear that Michael Shanks was leaving stargate...and in the usa he already has. but i think if its what he wants then he shouldn't stay because then the show wouldn't be fun for him to make or us to watch. i think that if its and understanding between the writer and michael shanks then it would be nice if it was resolved...is there going to be a movie? if there is i firmly believe that michael shanks should at least appear in it as he has dedicated five years of his life to STargate and to playing Dr Daniel Jackson, which he did very well. Well i have nothing else to say, but thanks for stargate...its a great show...well bye..zoe therese winters <zoesha_2000@hotmail.com>

My family and I have been faithful followers of Stargate from the very beginning. We are sad to see Daniel Jackson leave the show. SG-1 will not be the same. They are a family and should be kept together, even if that means expanding Daniel's role with the team.

THANK you for allowing the Sci-Fi channel to broadcast SG-1. I wasn't ready to add a pay per view channel just to get it, but LOVE that it is on my favorite channel.. (now if you could just persuade them to add back episodes every night of the week) I liked Daniel Jackson as a key element to the team. He and Teal'c had an interesting relationship. I'm sure you would not let the writers kill him off as he will surely be a central point in the next SG-1 film. So please re-consider bringing him back earlier than later.
Oh.. I also own over 500+ DVD's and am waiting for the rest of the seasons to be released on DVD so I may purchase them as well to fill in the gaps when I need a SG-1 fix.
Thank you from Kansas,

After reading about the rating system from this site and others I have finally been able to set aside the 1.5 rating for Abyss as one that could not possibly be a serious reflection of those who tuned into the program. With the number of households involved there would be no way to accurately project how many millions tuned in. I would think that with the technology we have today that they could come up with a way to get ratings in a more accurate way. If that Jonass show gets a higher rating it will confirm the serious flaws in the rating system.
I also believe that many anti-DJ viewers did not tune in. It makes sense if we would tune in for one special show that they would tune out just to make a point. This web site would be a very accurate source as to how many have watched Abyss and how many will be watching it when it comes to thier areas. The many e-mails and letters are another good source. They are not estimates or projections but actual names and addresses of viewers.
And I'm sure I'm not the only one who could almost hear a sneering "I told you so" from the comments made on the Gateworld ratings page. The more I read the comments and see evidence of the bad attitudes by TPTB the more I realize that Michael Shanks made a smart move when he left.
I still want to see Daniel Jackson back (not as a cloud) and I will continue to watch any Stargate program with him in it.

After being a dedicated fan to Stargate from the beginning i am distraught that Michael Shanks has left the show. After never missing an episode i was in tears watching Michaels last apperance! I am deeply concerned about the shows future without Daniel Jackson, the witty conversing between Jack and Daniel added a humor to the show, and i felt that there was much more about the character that had yet to be developed, such as his relationships with Teal'c and Sam.In my opinion Daniel was the soul of the show, Sam has her science, Teal'c has his mission, Jack has his humor, Daniel was the heart, without him the show will simply be full of bloodshed. So i urge you to reconsider your decision, the advantages of sci fi means that characters are able to return from the dead, as you proved with the knox. From the articles that i have seen Michael Shanks is obviously willing to return to the show, please listen to him and his fans if you wish the show to remain the success that it is.

Dale, from Cleveland Ohio, 54 years old. I have watched all the scifi programs since they came out in the fifties. The original Star trek was the first TV show that made me a fan of the series. Why did I become a fan? Because of the feel the show gave you when watching the three main actors connecting with each other with feelings, humor, love, caring, duty to the ship, duty to each other, duty to the prime directive. All of this is what made this show. After the show had been on for the first year or so.
Could we have watched it without Kirk or Bones or Spock, along with the supporting cast? The answer is No! When you break up a good thing you do not have the same thing you had before! No matter how you try to get by it is not the same. Take out Kirk or Spock or Bones and that series would not have made it to what it is today!
Look what happened to the X FILES, and any other shows, were the group was broken up in. It only lasted for a year or so or even less. The movies must have the main actors also. I understand that the X Files will have a second movie with the Main actors in it. When Spock died in the second movie everyone was very upset. They had to bring him back. They still need to bring Kirk back from the New Generations movie. Shatner even wrote a book on this to bring Kirk back!
Anyway, Daniel Jackson is a main actor in the Star Gate series! He was in the movie and in the series. It is not the same without him the balance the feel the humor the love, the caring for each other is missing now! The new guy is OK maybe he can be the fifth member of the team!
If you want this series to live on like Star Trek did you need all the main actors to finish out the series first! Then move into the movies with all the main actors together. This will make the series live on as did Star Trek.
Bring back Daniel Jackson before it is too late!
Dale Spuzzillo

The loss of Michael Shanks as Daniel is a great disappointment to his fans, including myself. With his departure, a very unique and important character was destroyed, one who would never be the same without Michael Shanks to portray him. This loss, I believe, will change the rest of the SGC not for the better. Without Daniel there to take a humanitarian approach to issues, the team could become more militant and Jack would have no one to caution him against blowing things up immediately after a problem occurs. As shown in certain episodes in Season 4 of Stargate, such as “Scorched Earth”, this is not always the best approach. Had Jack succeeded in blowing up the spaceship, two entire civilizations would have been destroyed thoughtlessly. Daniel’s humanitarian approach to issues contrasts with Jack’s militaristic attitude, helping to balance the situation. He is able to negotiate with the other peoples that the team encounters in order to find a better solution. Without Daniel, this balance between humanitarian and militaristic views and the ability to negotiate well may soon be lost.
No one can portray a unique character such as Daniel the way that Michael Shanks can. He speaks through the character, bringing it life and individuality. His interpretation of the character best balances humanitarian and military views. Michael Shanks brings out Daniel’s humorous side and shows the softer, lighter side and humanitarian issues of every episode. Without Michael Shanks, these essential aspects of the show have been lost, changing it completely. Since Michael Shanks left, Daniel Jackson - the very Daniel Jackson that we have all known for years - has dissolved, and with him all that he has brought to SG-1. Without Daniel, the show could become focused more and more on military approaches to issues, and eventually lose its entire purpose. Daniel is my favorite character on Stargate because I can identify with him, especially the way Michael Shanks portrays him. His humorous side makes the show much more entertaining to me, and I may stop watching completely, especially if the show becomes more military-focused. I hope that you will seriously consider and take into account all I have said. Sincerely, Glennis Stratemeyer

However, given the present situation, I believe it would wise to add a cautionary note for him:

Hi Guys!
I'm from Germany so please excuse my bad english!!!
I think daniel jackson should return, cause noone could ever replace him!he's an important part of sg-1!and his relationship with jack was the most important one for the whole series!and they could NOT please me with corin nemec as jonah quinn (by the way i hate him sooo much!!!)
I think the producers should have eccepted mike's suggestion of extending daniel's charakter, cause they now lost one of their best actors and thats a great pitty!!And they're now concentrating on the relationship between jack and sam,and thats not what the movie was all about! It was originally about jack and daniel! And how daniel helped jack to overcome what happened to his son!I think the producers should think about that!!
So: GET THE HELL DANIEL BACK TO STARGATE SG-1!!!!!!!!!
Thats what i wanted to say!
Thanks for you attention!
SAVE DANIEL JACKSON!!!!

To Whom It May Concern:The following are the reasons why I, and my family and friends, are not supporting season 6 and how we feel about individuals who feel that it is appropriate to give public advice on how others should feel and respond about this situation:
1. Why we became Stargate and Stargate SG-1 fans:
Stargate began with Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill.
SG-1 began with a team consisting of the same two characters and the addition of Sam Carter and Teal'c.
Both Stargate and Stargate SG-1 were about the relationship between individuals in a team (2 main individuals in the movie and 4 in the show).
Both Stargate and Stargate SG-1 were built on the premise of these individuals, as a team, caring for each other and using the "Stargate" to explore new worlds, beings and cultures.
2. Why we are not supporting Season 6:
For us, as with many true Stargate and Stargate SG-1 fans, the "Fresh New Perspective" that is Season 6 does not work. The current group is not our team, for many reasons Jonas does not seem to fit in right, the "Stargate" is used infrequently and the show is missing a foundation character from both the movie and the show, Daniel Jackson. For us, this new product is NOT Stargate or Stargate SG-1.
I, and my family and friends, have noticed the changes that have happened over the past 3 years. We don't like any of them. Losing Daniel was "THE LAST STRAW" in a haystack of unhappy changes on the show for us.
We miss Stargate SG-1! We miss the TEAM (and we do mean the original team)! We miss the emphasis on exploration of other worlds and cultures! We miss the caring and relationship between the team members! This is why we have only watched Abyss (Thank you Brad Wright, RDA and Michael Shanks!)from season 6, (and, in the future, we will only watch episodes that includes all of the original team members including Daniel/Michael Shanks. We may also watch Allegiance (Thanks PDL!) when it re-runs based on the positive reviews that we have read about the ep on this board and other groups from all types of SG-1 fans who have watched it).
We who feel the loss of what Stargate and Stargate SG-1 was to us before the changes have a right to grieve, a right to watch or not to watch as we see fit, and a right to express our concerns and feelings appropriately.
We are doing so here, where it is appropriate with many other true fans who have the same opinion of the situation. We have also written letters in an appropriate manner expressing our concerns and our reasons for not supporting season 6 and sent them to the pertinent individuals who may have the ability to make changes to return the show to the original premise and cast.
We (I, my family and my friends) do understand and acknowledge that for other true Stargate and Stargate SG-1 fans the changes are not a problem and season six is being enjoyed. I do not, and my family and friends do not post advice to these other true fans that they should not watch season six because we are unhappy with the way the show has gone.
To those who are posting here to tell us that what we are doing, and how we are reacting to the "new" show is wrong you are out of line to make these suggestions. We have no responsibility to give "season 6” or “the new guy” a chance. You are entitled to your opinion of the show, and you are entitled to express your opinion in an appropriate manner. That is all. It is NOT appropriate for anyone to tell anyone else how to feel or how to respond! Kindly keep your “advice” to yourself.
Sincerely,
Sharyn, family and friends.

I have just visited this site by pure chance, and as a fan of Stargate had no idea the character of Daniel Jackson isn`t due for a return. This is totally amazing as the character, espiecally played by Micheal Shanks is a strong one and is part of a very good team. Why muck about with something thats so good? I assumed, like many other fans i guess, that when D.J transformed into a higher being that this would be temporary!
So i plead with the makers of the show to bring D.J backANDREW GUARD <alguard@btinternet.com>

Daniel Jackson is a key part of SG-1. He is a huge character in the show and should be brought back. He's my favorite character. He's like O'Neil and Carter combined, he's smart and athletic. You can't just take a major character out of a show, it changes everything. Greg

We all love the Daniel Jackson character; most probably more than any other character in the show. Especially here in Western Europe, where sound civilians are easily favoured against stubborn US military officers whose only concern is to get an advantage in weaponry over their enemies. Since the producers of the show made the aliens speak and understand English for most of the time, there wasn't really much to do for a linguist. So they turned Daniel into an anthropologist and the moral as well as ethical conscience of the team. That worked fine - even with the viewers. We've grown fond of the Jack/Daniel arguments over the time. That came very naturally, since Carter seems to be such a superwoman, she's almost surreal and difficult to accept as a normal person while Teal'c is the quiet alien, a good and trustworthy chap but not quite as likeable as our favourite egghead. Just for the record: there is nothing improper in the way the writers portray the different relationships of the main characters in the show, especially the Jack/Daniel friendship. I defy all those close-minded people who insinuate otherwise at every opportunity (e.g. at conventions in Europe earlier this year).
With the ever intensifying story arc that tells us about the struggle with the system lords, the character of Daniel Jackson became more and more obsolete for the writers. The producers bowed to polls indicating that young male viewers would favour more special effects scenes with plenty of warships etc (something we've seen happening before with StarTrek: Deep Space Nine and the war with the Dominon). And they were proven right. Viewing figures of that group have risen. However, they may have forgotten the other viewers. Overall viewing figures dropped, especially since Mr Shanks departure.
I'm sure that fact was a surprise to all concerned. Not least for MS himself. From todays point of view, he made the right decision. Leaving the show as the first permanent character triggered an enormous response from the fans and the media subsequently. Had the producers known the effects of his departure or better: the affection many people harbour for Daniel Jackson (and MS likewise), they would have given this character more significance and room to evolve.
By now, the producers want to make the best of the situation. They introduced a replacement for him. Another young man, good looking, a scholar, always nice and smiling and of course: a «quick study» as they keep him telling us repeatedly. However, season 6 is so far not quite as entertaining as we would have wished. The absence of Daniel Jackson is widely missed.
So they came up with the idea of giving the fans what they wanted most: Daniel Jackson revisited and arguing with Jack O'Neill! We love those scenes, don't we?; well, I do for starters. Never mind Daniel didn't enter as a shining knight rescuing his former team mates from a grave predicament... but stop: didn't he just save Jack from madness and turning into another person? A person with a truly mean personality the moment he woke up in that sarcophagus once to often (as explained in the episode «Need»). He offered Jack a way out - as an enlightened being worthy of ascending to another plain of existence (nice thought!). Jack refused and the ensuing argument was a watchable example of the trust and friendship between the two. I liked it! In the end, Daniel accepted Jack's refusal and thought of another solution. As I understand it, it was Daniel who helped thinking Carter, Teal'c and the others of a way to get Jack off Baal's hook.
Well, let us be thankful for every moment with Daniel Jackson. Personally, I wish Michael Shanks all the best of luck for his future career. I would be most thrilled seeing him as a leading character in another successful tv-series that makes it's way to European small screens. Sadly, his appearances in independent Canadian tv-films stand not much of a chance to be aired here. To be honest, seeing him in a feature film (Stargate or something completely different) isn't quite the same consolation as admiring him week after week in a new episode of an enchanting and entertaining tv-series.
Cheerio,

DJ was the man who made Stargate a success from the beginning. Taking him off would be as if Spock was taken off the original Star Trek, or Hobbs removed from I-man. See where I am going? The new guy is great, but he should not be a replacement. I had a fit because I missed the episode where Daniel was taken off and can you emagine the shock and dismay I had and still have, of losing the "Genius" which made my show such a success. I am very pleased that Sci-Fi channel now has Stargate SG-1.

I've enjoyed watching SG-1 for several years now because
of one very simple but yet very important reason, the
interaction between the established characters. While I do
prefer a stage set in science fiction, it's the characters
that make or break a series, regardless of the venue. Yes,
the premise is interesting and the special effects are
"really cool" but it's the human interaction that really
counts. And now, one fourth of that interaction is gone.
The character "Daniel Jackson" was as important to the
series as any of the other characters and, in my opinion,
perhaps even more so since it was the character "Daniel
Jackson" that provided the civilian as well as the
scientific perspective that I belive most of the audience
could relate to with the most ease. Well, perhaps this
happened for a collection of really good reasons. But then
again, perhaps not. All I can do now is offer my honest
reaction to what's happened. And that reaction is this:
I'm now much more interested in watching for the demise of
the rest of the established characters than I am in watching
a really well thought out, interesting and innovative
science fiction drama series that did something television
series rarely do, become better than the movie that spawned
it. So, farewell to the character "Daniel Jackson", may he
some how rest in peace... because if the producers really
cared about what the audience thought, he'd still be
fighting the good fight with the rest of his on screen
family.

I have read over a number of the interviews which Michael Shanks has given regarding his departure from Stargate
SG-1. I am appalled that the executive producers, directors and writers (in other words - the powers-that-be) would be so dense as to allow this to happen. Mr. Shanks' contribution to this program was and could continue to be a vital. His character was, as one interview stated, "the perfect foil" for Jack. He (Daniel) was the heart and soul of the show AND besides Jack's character is the only other one carried over from the original movie. In one interview Mr. Shanks gave he stated that the premise from the movie and the TV movie with he and RDA was that the friendship between Jack and Daniel would be an intergal part of the story arcs. Evidently it became less and less. It makes me wonder if maybe one of the actor's (I won't mention any names - but this actor I feel should know better as HE has a number of other shows under his belt and should not feel this way), but anyway - I can't help wondering if maybe this one particular actor felt that Daniel's character was beginning to eclipse his and as this particular actor is touted as the STAR then well, we just can't have that.As far as I am concerned - this has always been an ensemble cast, where there is no particular star that all the character's are intergaly part of the show and each bring their own brand of flavour. Too bad there had to end up being sour grapes.
I fully appreciate Mr. Shank's decision. But I would implore MGM to reconsider and bring him back for the duration of the series (which looks like will end at the end of Season Six) and for the proposed movie. As far as I am concerned - this program will suffer greatly without Daniel Jackson as the heart and soul of the show.

PLEASE READ THIS, POSSIBLE SOLUTION INCLUDED
I write, SF mostly, and I read/watch SF. Eliminating the "Science Geek" character is never a good idea. Daniels is to SG1 what Data was to Star Trek Next Generation. Without him or a character VERY like him. The TV show will become an unsustainable series of violent encounters, much like Power Rangers. The monotony will bore viewers unless Daniels is reclaimed or the show is entirely changed. It can already be seen, just take previous episodes WITH Daniels and retry them WITHOUT. Personally I feel that change and occasional guest apperances by Daniels would be the best option.

I decided to stop watching because I feel the standard has been dropping for two and a half years and enough was enough. The show isn't about exploration and the universe any longer, it's about conspiracies and Earth politics and planets that look suspiciously like the interiors of soundstages. I hung on because of Daniel. Now he's gone one of the few things keeping me watching is gone. So don't make assumptions. And even if there are people who won't watch without Daniel, well that's up to them surely? Some people wouldn't watch without Jack. If you want to watch and you're happy with the stories then great, have a blast. But don't lecture others on being petty because they've made a decision not to watch and want to lodge a complaint.

I must be in the dark ages as I just found out that Daniel Jackson has been written out of sg1. I personally believe this to be a mistake as he has always been the rational side of this program and a large part of continunity from the movie to the television version. I don't think bring in in someone else to try and replace him is the right move given the rumors that Richard dean Anderson has been thinking of closing down after this season. But then thats how things go when you finally find something on T.V. worth watching someone comes along and screws it all up. You could say I'm mildly choked but doubt that any of the brass really gives a rat's a__ about itDouglas G. Johnson <sirdoug26@shaw.ca>

To the poster below who wants us to "give Jonas a chance". He's been in nine episodes so far. That's more than enough time to form an opinion about the character. If Jonas hasn't won over the fans by now, it's hopeless.JoJo <jfreggens@prodigy.net>

I consider myself open-minded, but I just saw "Allegiance" and I have to say it was a great relief to NOT see Jonas Quinn in this episode (except for less than a minute). It was also a relief to not see much of him in last week's "Other Guys". Not coincidental that my favorite episodes this season are Jonas-free, and least favorite eps are Jonas-focused or "conspiracy" themed. The Jonas character throws off the whole team's dynamic, and he feels like an annoying guest character. Bring back Daniel Jackson!J. Williams

This article is not much of saving anyone but to put in my opinion on the situation.I know how you feel about Michael Shanks leaving but I say WAY TO GO CORIN. I have just watch some of the new episodes with Corin Nemec in then and I believe that the series still as it's charms, high profile and extraordinary acting. even though Michael is no longer in the series I believe that everyone should give Corin a chance. It would be great if Michael Shanks was still in the series but he isn't. Deal with it. You must think to yourselves what it would be like if you came into a series that has run as long as stargate has fitting in with all the fans of Stargate that have been watching from the beginning who are dedicated to the show. I am a fan of Michael Shanks as well as a fan of Corin Nemec but you know what I am not going to stop watching Stargate for petty reasons and that there is not just one person in a series and in fact the whole of the cast make the series. Just remember your sad and a little bitter about Michael leaving well he did so of his own choice. Corin hasn't replaced or taken over Michaels place no-one could ever do that. Corin is just trying to do what he obviously enjoys and wants to do. beside the series has the tension between Jonas and Jack plus not to be cruel there's more humour this series.
I believe in Corin and Series 6

To whom it may concern This letter is in reference to the abolishment of the character of Dr. Daniel Jackson of the SG-1 series. When I first saw the original movie Stargate it brought a change to the science fiction scene and gave us a completely new perspective of our own past history. Going back to the Star Trek series the basis of this series had no basic ground theory of our own history as the SG-1 series did.
As for the character of Jackson, he is to O'Neill (and the series) what Spock was to Kirk and Star Trek. Dr. Jackson was the one that had found the secrets to enter the Stargate in two weeks what his colleagues were unable to find in two years.
Since the beginning of the series Dr.Jackson as more than once shown his scientific abilities which have more than once saved his SG-1 team members.
You need to bring not only the character but the actor who played Dr. Jackson because he had that special nerd
charisma that was a perfect foil to O'Neill lack of scientific knowledge.
Let's be serious, SG-1 without Jackson would have been like Star Trek without Spock.

Daniel Jackson was a great character.
However, for various reasons, Michael Shanks decided to not maintain his regular character on Stargate. It was sudden, and yes, even sad, but the show must go on. After all, SG-1 consisted of three other members, not just Daniel Jackson. Naturally, the other three members dealt with Daniel's loss on the show and are still dealing with it. Daniel is gone, yet he's not forgotten. I enjoyed his guest appearance in season 6's Abyss, but I also have enjoyed every other episode in season 6 even though they do not include Daniel. I watch the show because it's damn good; it has excellent plots, themes, characters, and a wonderful dynamic that is ever-changing. I can't just stop watching because Daniel's not there. If the show was intended to stop because a certain character wasn't there, it wouldn't be called SG-1.
I for one support this great show and will continue to do so until it stops airing. The producers and writers actually listen to what the fans have to say, and I must admire that. Personally, I would rather praise them for a job well done than critize them for dealing with an actor's decision.
After all, no amount of appeals to MGM, SCI-FI, or any other PTB will bring Daniel Jackson back permanently. Why? Because it's not their decision - it's Micheal Shanks's own.
Why not innundate HIS mailbox or voicemail or email with messges begging him to come back? He's the one capable of making the decision your cause is dedicated to.
While, in a way, it must be flattering to see such dedication to a character and an actor, it also saddens me to see it so misplaced. If you are truly fans of Stargate SG-1, you would watch it regardless of whether Daniel is in it or not. Enjoy the show for what it is, not for who happens to be in it.
Thanks much,
Jenn

I think by now that you must have been flooded with letters about this subject and are sick to the back teeth of Stargate fans but I am afraid I feel so strongly, that I am just going to add to their number! I can fully appreciate that in your position, when an actor asks to leave a show, there is not much you can do about it, save chaining him/her to a chair, but I wonder in this instance whether you may have let Michael Shanks go too easily.
In business, you want to maximise your profits and sell the best product possible. You already had a kick ass formula and a show that is incredibly lucrative and highly successful. I cannot comprehend how or why you let a golden ingredient to the mix, out of your hands. We are all human beings, but boy oh boy, you guys are the cream of your field. You know how to get someone to do something that they don't want to do...
First - you listen to their gripe. OK, so Michael Shanks says he felt that he was not such an integral part of the show anymore...What should you do...
Maybe listen to one of its key stars and give a little. Its like any company losing one of its major players. You swallow a little pride and do something about it. Otherwise you have a lot of very unhappy customers to think about.
Of course, you may have done that. I am sure that Michael Shanks wanted to have a break and the lack of meaty scripts sent him into orbit. However, this is the part I can't seem to grasp - Why, did you not try to stop him? Anybody at your level has the manipulative powers and intelligence to offer a young actor enough, either in money terms of script terms to stay. It doesn't take a genius. Did you feel that he wasn't worth it and perhaps better to see the back of him, because that is sure what it looks like from where I am sitting in sunny old England.
Our fanbase in the UK is huge and we are really fed up that one of the best characters portrayed on TV is not going to be in the last season. Its like being part of something and loving it for five years and then at the last moment being kicked in the teeth (slightly dramatic but there you go).
Michael Shanks played Daniel Jackson beautifully. Like it or not, he is pure gold to Stargate. The chemistry between the RDA and MS is what makes this show tick. Its a show about discovery, enlightenment and the spirit of adventure. (Well, it was for the first 3 seasons). Brad Wright did a fantastic job, but I feel somewhat let down that he couldn't keep Michael till the end. I know that in the great world of TV this is just one young actor, but surely you can see by the enormous backlash that Michael Shanks is very dear to the hearts of Stargate fans because Daniel Jackson is one of the most well-written and intelligent characters seen on TV for a while.
I am looking forward to watching Abyss when it airs in the UK but until then I don't think I can bear to watch Jonas. I am sure he is a fine actor and a great guy but sorry, its like replacing a member of your family with a stranger.
Ultimately Mr Cohen and Mr Wright have given me a show that kept me in on a Wednesday night in the UK for many years! That takes some doing, I can assure you. So, I get my Wednesday's back. Do you know, its a shame, because I'd give anything to have an excuse to get out of that goddam aerobics class!
Finally, can I ask one thing. I may be a humble fan who has given immense loyalty to this show throughout. I have purchased numerous DVD's and videos. Maybe you could do one little old thing for me? Get Michael back for as many episodes as possible and tell the fans if he is going to do the movie. Don't mess around with half-statements of we think, or he may, or perhaps. Be fair to the fans that have supported your work and respected it. Respect us and listen to what we are saying. We don't know the whole story. We never will. But we do know that Michael Shanks is an extremely talented actor and we want him back in Stargate ASAP. Give us a break.
Thanks - I don't usually do this, but I have never felt so strongly about a show in my life. Which means a pat on the back to everyone who went into producing it and making it the most fun and exciting Science Fiction show ever produced.
Don't rest on your laurels. For once MGM - do something for the fans. My favourite fantasy episode at the moment is probably entitled Descent! or The Return or Goodbye Jonas/Hello Daniel.
Thanks for reading this. I am sure that by now you may have been bored into a coma but I just had to get this off my chest!

Daniel must NOT be allowed to be removed from the SG-1 team. From the beginning of Stargate, the movie, the character of Daniel Jackson was an integral figure and most important to the history and future of Stargate. His unique perspectivem personally and professionally, add dimension to the team, as well as heart. The producers are making a big mistake in removing Daniel and his role in the series. The loss of Daniel will severely damage SG-1 and will be impossible to replace with anyone and any story line. Stargate fans are concerned about the direction of the series and the omission of Daniel in the storyline. Daniel has gone from the central character to a figure taken for granted and not utilized fully. Please reconsider your slant and give the heart back to Stargate.

To Hank Cohen,Brad Wright,Richard Dean Anderson. I refer to a statement dated 2nd August 02 from sdj steering team, in response to the allegation that hate-mail from people on this site will result in a low turnout of sg1 production staff at Gatecon 2002.
Thankyou Alison for once again showing that sdj people can write coherent arguments in concise sentences.
I am astounded that SG1 management feel the need to keep on throwing mud. I think I am still here and getting more and more involved because tptb keep on shooting themselves in the foot.
I came on to the internet in January to try to find out just what had happened to make an extremely talented actor like Michael Shanks leave SG1 with only 1 more season to go. I believed the 'party line' that he left to pursue other projects at first but then a few comments here and there from tptb ( not from MS ), just didnt ring true. ("Methinks they protest too much ", came to mind).
Since then, hardly a month has gone by but somebody 'in power' said something about 'Daniel fans' to make things worse.
Using derogatory words to describe sdj supporters is like a red rag to this Taurean bull. I am 54 years old, have been teaching for 30 years in UK, Swaziland, Botwana and Zimbabwe. I have been Head of Science 3 times, set up departments from nothing twice, and am now in the field of special education with an interest in autism.
My oldest son is just younger than Michael Shanks and I am not lovesick. I know what I like and dont like. I dont watch TV ad nauseam and lead a busy and fulfilled life. SG1 was part of my relaxation.
I have not ever written a death threat to anybody , let alone an sg1 executive. I believe in freedom of speech, and have defended that right on this discussion board several times. Having lived and worked in several Third World countries, I know what it means to watch what is said in public and even in private places.
I wrote to you (Hank Cohen, Brad Wright and Bonnie Hammer) more than once over the last few months, posting a copy each time on the guestbook. I tried to be as polite and respectful as possible whilst at the same time expressing honestly how I feel.
Having read almost all of the posts on the sdj guestbook since January, I know that people express themselves passionately but with very very few exceptions, there is absolutely nothing that could be construed as offensive - critical yes, but not offensive.
I have not attended a Gatecon and have no plans to go to the next one. If I did, I imagine the people I would love to talk to would be Peter De Luise, Brad Wright, Amanda and Chris Judge. Peter writes and directs so well, I'd love to just tell him so. Amanda and Chris - more compliments but I'd also ask how things really are without Michael.
I would want to congratulate Brad Wright on writing Abyss, and tell him how much I appreciate him giving me something of season 6 to treasure. I would have to tell him that for me Daniel is the heart and soul and I cant watch it without him; that Jonas is the wrong character, introduced in the wrong episode in the wrong way.He might not like hearing this again. I would also have to say that much as I would LOVE to enjoy season 6, without Michael Shanks' Daniel, it lacks something fundamental and it shows.
I dont know if the production crew are expected to go but it seems some dont want to face the fans. If Corin Nemec were there, and I'm afraid I dont know what I would say to him- nothing I suspect because I couldnt lie to him. Sooner or later I'd have to tell him that taking over Daniel's office, mannerisms, cup , notebook and fish was a BAD move. I would have to avoid anything that compared him to Michael Shanks so would probably avoid him completely so I didnt have to lie.
I expect it would come up in conversation somewhere that I am one of the hated sdj supporters. They might even find that I am quite nice really, in spite of what they have been led to believe all sdj people are like.
Its a pity I wont be going because we could perhaps mend some bridges. I am sure some of sdj will do that for me and do it far better than I could.
Sincerely, Carole

Bonjour !First, I'me sorry to tell you my comments in French, but my English is not very well !!
Bonjour,

I've just been reading through all these posts and the thing that amazes me here is the HUGE range of people from all countries, interests, age groups and genders who have posted here and who feel passionately about the character of Daniel Jackson, the original team and the show that was Stargate SG1. Quality does not limit itself to one demographic. It shines and reaches across all. That was what you had in the character of Daniel Jackson, that was what you had in the original Stargate SG1 and that is what you had in Michael Shanks - talent and quality.
Instead you throw this away in the vague hope of some ellusive demographic *may* start watching the "new improved" version? Why would they? There are other shows out there that do it better and with more panache. Oh, and this demographic you are chasing? They are fickle. Remember power rangers, remember beanie babies, remember Tiffany? They lasted about 10 seconds on centre stage. That's what you want for Stargate SG1 or this spin off you hope to launch?
I think you guys need to take a good look at yourself. Take a leaf out of Jack Welsh (remember him, most successful CEO in history) and go for sustainabilty, not quick hits and near enough is good enough copies. Cull the rubbish and bring back the quality.
Bring Daniel and the original spirit of Stargate SG1 back - bring back quality.

I would just like to take the opportunity to thank Mr Wright, Mr Anderson and Mr Shanks for the wonderful episode that was "Abyss".Being in the UK I've only seen this in 'squinty vision' but it was a fantastic return to form. To date this will be the only S6 episode I will be watching on TV.
The episode lived up to its much hyped reputation - fantastic dialogue between Jack and Daniel combined with a good storyline. It reminded me why I feel in love with this series and these characters the first time around.
This was vintage Stargate: SG-1. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of what we once had. You have shown that the chemistry and magic is still there. Please give us more of the same, otherwise you are doing yourselves and the fans a great injustice.

Michael Shanks' character was definitely the "heart" of the show. He provided the intellectual balance to the military-guns-a-blastin personalities of the SGC, Don Davis, and Richard Anderson.I always enjoyed how his character took the time to analyze the situation and to react thoughtfully rather than impulsively (again... in contrast to the all-military all-the-time mentality of the rest of the characters.)
I hope you'll consider brining his character back into the main storyline more often, rather than marginalizing it as has been done in recent episodes.

Allen Walden

Hello.I am not going to write a novel about it, but i was so sad when i watched the episode in which Daniel dies... It made me cry, first because Daniel was one of the major character of this really interesting and original serie. And because he really brought a certain balance in the team. He made me dream about the ancient civilizations, thanks to his passion and knowledge.
He was always ready to fight or give his life (that's what he did...) for the people he loved and what he thought was right and fair.
I will go on watching Stargate SG-1, but i will always regret Daniel Jackson, his intelligence, humanity, sens of humour and simply, his vision of life: fair, right and hopeful...He was like the soul of the team, inside this military system, he brought his kindness and love of others.
I really hope one day the writers will find a way to get him back in the show, because i am sure Daniel Jackson hasn't finished his quest yet, and i also know, i am not the only one to regret him... He almost became a member of my family.
Thank you very much for reading this mail and taking my point of view into account

To anybody in USA /Australia/ anywhere else that has only just found out what happened to Daniel in Meridian. Please remember to send a copy of what you have written here to Hank Cohen and Bonnie Hammer.
They will almost certainly not read this page but you can send a copy through this site - see Home page link.
MGM publicity are putting out that no-one is missing Daniel and that season 6 is the best ever- in other words that everybody is happy with the 'new improved sg1'.
Only by telling them how YOU feel can we get the message across that Daniel is needed for us to want to watch SG1.
( I tried season 6 and except for 6:06 Abyss where MS returns , I couldnt watch it).
Only then do we stand a chance of seeing Daniel in more than 1 episode in season 6 and back on the team in the movie rather than as an ascended 'light being' as he is now. Thankyou , carole.carole <carolecampbell1@hotmail.com>

How can Stargate sg-1 exist without Daniel Jackson? He is an integral part of the show!
Over the last few seasons I have been dissapointed to find his character becoming more like an extra than a main character, and have been horrified to notice that the show is becoming more about cheap thrills and less about the intriguing storylines that got me hooked on the show in the first place.
Daniel to me is the most important part of the show and I honestly do not believe that it could even exist without Daniel. I watched Stargate because of its original ideas, meaningful themes, and complex characters. But these last seasons? Wormhole X-treme disgusted me, and now, even the idea of the show without Daniel is just so unthinkable and wrong that it makes me cry!
Without Daniel, this show is nothing more than a painful echo of what was once an incredible and gripping show. I just pray that the powers that be would realise this and fix this ghastly mistake before the show dies due to lack of ratings.
I know that I don't want to watch a Stargate sg-1 episode that doesn't include Daniel. Because without him there is no sg-1!Kat <mirielquendi@hotmail.com>

I was shattered by the easy dismissal of Daniel Jackson. Reflect on history. What if we easily dismissed the Declaration of Independence? or easily dismissed the idea of sending men into space--hence no Mercury astronauts. What if Columbus easily dismissed sailing to the new world? What if President Lincoln easily dismissed the south and just let them break off from the Union. Great things would not have happened. By easily dismissing Daniel Jackson you have voided all meaning of the Stargate. It is now and ever will be a military minded consciousness. Shame on you. Bring him back. The last episode with him talking to Jack in jail was magnificent. He can return since you had him ascend and not be killed off. Do it now. Your credibility as a caring production company can be restored. You do not have to be thought of as heartless like--oh yes, the guy from the Wizard of OZ. I am a complete Danielite and want to see him in more episodes (in HUMAN form). I don't consider an energy squid with Daniel's voice being Daniel. And you can't have Daniel come back as a different actor, it must be Michael Shanks!
I completely agree with Michael in the fact that Daniel Jackson wasn't getting enough storyline. The writers backed him up into a corner and left him there. At least when that happened to Sam Carter they brought her back out. The show lost a lot of its edge without the conflicts between Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Niell.
I have been looking up information in interviews about why Michael quit and I also looked up some thing that Brad Wright had said. Here are three quotes from Brad:
1. "However, Daniel's arc was over. But make no mistake, the method by which he's leaving completely leaves the door open, and if it works out - he will return."
2. "As someone who has written a lot of hours of Stargate SG-1, I'm looking forward to the newness that will come form having to create a new character and make that character work as part of the team. Whether we're succesful enough or not - the fans will have to decide."
3. "The Sci-fi channel is our new broadcaster, and we'll have a whole lot of new viewers, so our new guy is going to provide an enthusiasm and a newness to the team that the new viewers deserve. Nobody wants to tune in to a show for the first time and see a bunch of characters going through the Stargate where every one of them is in 'been there, seen that' mode."
With the first quote I have read that Brad had anounced that Daniel would be in six episode, but Michael Shanks was never talked to about five of those episodes. Now about the second quote - haven't the fans made it clear that they don't like Parker? And finally about the third quote - in the second quote is says "- the fans will have to decide.", but then it the third quote he is saying "Nobody wants to tune in to a show for the first time and see a bunch of characters going through the Stargate where every one of them is in 'been there, seen that' mode." Well, if the fans have to decide then how is his telling the fans what they want? Besides, if I tuned in for the first and it wasn't the beginning of the whole series, then I wouldn't want to watch plus I wouldn't know what was going on. I don't know many people who would watch a show when it is in it last season who haven't seen the other seasons, too. So my point here is that chances are your not getting many new viewers and your probaly losing more viewers than you are gaining.
I also know that the more Michael Shanks asked about giving his character more storyline, the less he got. Michael was told that being in the corner was just a phase, but it lasted two years. Two years is not a phase! That was the only reason why Michael quit! I know that the other actors and the crew didn't want Michael to leave. The other actors were depressed that Michael left and yes, it did show.
Parker just doesn't cut it being Daniel Jackson's replacement. He would be a good side character, but just doesn't belong with SG-1. When Daniel Jackson was still part of SG-1, it was a team. We should keep it that way.
Heres a ood idea that I and many other Danielites think you should use for the movie. Have SG-1 find Daniel is his energy squid form and bring him back to the SGC. Have Carter find a way to turn Daniel from an energy squid back into a human (SG-1 has done harder stuff than that). Once Daniel is human again have Hammond ask him to rejoin SG-1. Of course Daniel agrees. Parker moves to SG-2 or works somewhere else in the SGC or maybe he would go back to his planet and Daniel would get his rightful spot back in SG-1. That would definatly make all of the Danielites happy and what a better way to end the series.
I know that if you don't do something along those lines my family and I won't watch the last season and won't even want to pay to see the movie.
I am not asking for you to refilm any of the episodes, all I am asking is that you will either bring Daniel back in the series (in human form) or at least in the movie.Taryn Cherry <Spikeysp2@aol.com>

I've only recently become involved as a fan with SG-1. I have to say that I was first attracted to the original Stargate movie because of the relationship between the characters of O'Neill and Jackson. This connection was a central theme in the movie and one that was continued through the first few seasons of Stargate SG-1. There is an integral part that the character of Dr. Daniel Jackson plays within the premise, almost an anticipatory character; a character that attracts you to the show week after week. With the character of Jackson, there was always another scene to look forward to, as Daniel's character provided that moral code which every theme was measured by. I do not see how you can exempt such a fascinating, yet believable character from a series which is so dependent on the chemistry that the characters provide. As proven with the exit of Jackson, Stargate SG-1 appears to have become just another science fiction series that will have groupings of watchers within a specific group of fans, but will no longer be available to the mainstream. In addition, I do not see any future successful storylines for the character of O'Neill without Jackson with whom to compare.
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the exit of Jackson is the show's producers and writers have refused to adhere to the requests of the fan base, which has become undeniably outspoken. It saddens me that television no longer appears to be concerned with that actual art of drama. The lack of action from those who produce the series only furthers my belief.
Take heart, however, that even if Jackson does not return to the series, the character of Jackson will always be present in the stories of fans.

Dear MGM,In today's world of mass media, pop television, and franchising frenzee the opinion of a single woman may not amount to "a hill of beans" (as we say in Texas). So maybe I am writing this letter in vain. That being the case let be swift and to the point. I have not watched Stargate since Michael Shanks left the series. I will not watch it in the future, on television or anywhere else. It pains me to say this, I loved the show. I loved the other cast members. But this is a team concept, which should not have been messed with. To tell the absolute truth, I must admit, I am an archaeologist, so I acknowledge that this has tained my viewpoint. Well, thats about it. Thank you for your time,

To write Daniel out of Stargate would be absolute murder. It would destroy a wonderful, unique character, essential to the show. It would tip the balance between militaristic and humanitarian views. The show could become more focused on militaristic approaches and earthly issues, losing its entire purpose. Most of the show’s humor would be lost, and fans of Daniel and Miscael Shanks from all over would be severely disappointed. Daniel is one of the four main characters and is therefore essential to the show. The SGC needs him as a linguist in order to communicate with the different peoples they encounter, among other things.
The ongoing conflict between Daniel and Jack is necessary in order to create conflict within the team. This "internal” conflict, as well as “external” conflict involving the mission, pulls the viewers into the story and makes it more interesting. The viewers know that Jack and Daniel must listen to each other despite hierarchy in order to solve the conflict; they see part of the solution before the characters do, thus getting them involved. Daniel adds humor to the show: when in a bad situation he uses humor in an attempt to escape or make the situation better, e.g. Season 4, “Tangent”: “Who did you say you were?” “The great and powerful Oz.” Also, “Point of no Return”: “Nice color. Did you draw that yourself? Is that a duck?” If he makes a mistake, he quickly apologizes, and his status limits his ways of doing so, which I find humorous. e.g. “Whoops...uh…sorry.” If the team makes a mistake, ultimately putting them in a dangerous situation, he reacts by saying things such as “Well, that was insane.”, and “Yeah…we sorta messed that up.”, which I also find humorous. Daniel considers moral issues and takes a humanitarian point of view; this aspect of his personality contradicts Jack’s militaristic point of view, thus creating the internal conflict necessary to make the story more interesting and involve the viewers. Finally, no one can portray a unique character such as Daniel, show his humor or show the conflict between Daniel and Jack like Michael Shanks can. He speaks through the character, bringing it life and individuality. His interpretation of the character brings out his humor and shows the softer, lighter side and humanitarian issues of every episode. Without Michael Shanks, these essential aspects of the show would be lost indefinitely.Glennis Stratemeyer <thespian14@hotmail.com>

Dear MGM Executives,It seems only logical to keep the character of Daniel. He was the brainy one in a way that Carter could not be. He was a student/teacher of behavior while Carter is more physics/science. Given the tasks of the unit, his skills are needed.O'Neill is the muscles and Teal'c the inter-planetary minority of the group. C'mon, don't you see the logic? You needed this character of Daniel. Getting rid of him was a betrayal of good story and character relationships.

Definitely Daniel Jackson should be reinstated as a character.
His enthusiasm and sense of wonder helped to provide a
focus for the audience's sense of wonder, making SG-1 more
than just another space exploration show. Though I enjoy
the other characters, without Daniel Jackson the show seems
to have lost a lot of its spark. The new guy is interesting,
but he's not a sufficient replacement. My desire to watch
the show is down a great deal since Shanks left.
A show really does stand or fall by its characters, and
they're not replaceable. While I appreciate the effort not
to simply put a Shanks clone in his place, the place he
filled is now distinctly empty, and as a result the SG-1
team has a hole in its heart, which is the function he held
down in the team.Beth Wheeler <firedrak@inav.net>

Yeah, they should keep the Daniel character. Not just for the character, but for the whole show. These kind of main character retooling always send a show under. First off, all the fans of the character leave, then the writters or whoever panic and try to raise ratings by doing something big that usually comes out hacky and over blown. Then, if that even works, they'll have to do something else even bigger to justify it, or beat it. Then it all goes to crap. Look at any other tv show, that's tried the same thing.josh hood <optimus_prime27@yahoo.com>

Save Daniel Jackson in the max posible episodes of news episodes and the new film

I am writing in an effort to save Daniel Jackson. I am VERY upset that he was taken off the show. Where I am from, Stargate SG1 was moved from UPN to the Sci-Fi network and Daniel Jackson gone. Daniel is the heart of SG1 and a major contributor to the story line. I am asking, begging, pleading, to Please bring him back. When I watch the new episodes it is JUST NOT the same! I really miss him. I understand he is willing to come back. Please take this request into consideration and just bring him back. He is needed back by many fans. Thank you for sending my letter.

To All Whom This Letters Concerns:I am or should I say was an SG-1 fan. I loved my Fridays nights because of Stargate but now there is a big empty hole because of Michael Shanks not being a part of the team. He was one of my absolute favorites along with Richard Dean Anderson, who I've followed his whole career. I miss the two of them together. Their humor was the greatest and it really made the show. The "new guy" does not have what it takes! Ever since Michael has been written off, even though he has appered a few times, I just can't seem to get into this show anymore. I know Michael has his reasons for leaving the show, but why did no one care he was leaving? This is the last season, why couldn't everyone just end the show together and happily? They were all family, even to me, and now there is a BIG empty hole where Daniel use to be. I have read the letters and comments that fans have made on the bboard and that has to mean something to all of you that people out here miss him and can't believe he is gone. We all can not believe you would write off one of the main stars, why Daniel? I am sure all of you have your reasons but what about the rest of us? We want, I want him back!! Please bring back Daniel Jackson!!!!! I would love to see him back on the
SG-1 team, where he belongs!!! Make my Fridays something to look forward to again.
I hope these letters and comments mean something to you- about how much this show and its characters mean to all of us!
We are fighting for you Daniel Jackson, we want you back!!!
I miss you, greatly!!!!

Since I found Daniel Jackson & SG-1, I have gotten friends all over the united states to watch the incredibly SEXY Dr. Daniel Jackson on SG-1. There is not an episode that is on television that gets past me.Daniel is the person that gave the heart to the SG1 team. Daniel's insights cannot be replaced by another actor or character. There cannot be another character to replace Daniel. Daniel is SEXY, WONDERFUL, SEXY, INTELLIGENT, SEXY, what else can I say.
The team is not complete without Daniel Jackson. The person that is now the 4th team member is certainly NOT a replacement!!!

Dear whoever screwed up by letting Mr. Shanks go: There's somebody over there who needs a little talking to,
because someone seems to want SG-1 to go down. I hope you
all come to your sences!! You wouldn't get this much of
a reaction for something people will disregard easily!
I hope you get this and do a little research. Go online,
you'll find the poles, they'll say Daniel Jackson
was the most loved, thats right, most loved character on
the team. And you let him walk away.

Hello,As an avid fan of the Stargate series (original movie and SG-1 TV series) since its inception, I would like to strongly recommend that you include the Daniel Jackson character in the upcoming feature film. Further, as the television series has firmly established the new flavor of the Stargate universe, its characters and missions, I encourage you to cast Michael Shanks in the Daniel Jackson role for the next movie.
I realize that Michael has certain constraints that he would probably require prior to accepting the role, in terms of character development. Listen to him. Work with him. In my opinion, the movie will be much stronger with this character (even if it means the movie sequels deviate from the continuing timeline of the television series). Daniel Jackson is a key part of the Stargate mythology. I, nay we, the collective fans, would be much happier if that mythology were intact for the big screen.
Warm Regards,

I do have to agree Daniel Jackson was part of the backbone of the show. I know this show is Scifi but having him involved with the show gave more then just nonfiction. He gave some realism to it.
Just like many companies, one I work for for an example, you try to take a way a vital person so you can benifit your own selfishness. Not knowing you are just kicking yourself in the butt by doing so. Is Micheal Shanks asking for much, no, he is asking for what he deserves. I know many people who watch the show would agree with me. Sad to say I'm slowly losing intrest in Stargate SG1, many reasons why I want it is to see if Daniel Jackson has returned or is a guest.
So please look inside and truely see what you are benifiting from this by taking him off. I know you wont see to much. Please, reconsider and bring Daniel Jackson back.
Sincerly your

Please...You can't make stargate without Daniel Jackson. O'Neill is the star, but Daniel is the heart and he is the character I fell in love with. If he's not in, I can't watch because something is missing and I couldn't handle that.
I'm a sci-fi/fantasy writer here in sweden and I write pretty dark stuff, that's why a warm, sweet character is important to me. I have to get someething positive in my mind after spending hours with my own dark thoughts...and he is perfect for that...

August 2002,Dear Producers of Stargate SG-1,
I am writing concerning the removal of Daniel Jackson, played by Michael Shanks from your program, I am well aware that Michael Shanks chose to leave however his reasons for leaving were largely because the relationships set out in the pilot episode were very much different from those which later emerged in the series, and as Michael Shanks put it, he was becoming merely a part of the wallpaper, which, as one of the four key members of the series was not something anybody, be it himself or the fans could put up with.
In several interviews that Michael Shanks has given he has stated his desire to return as Daniel Jackson. I personally support this along with others and personally wish him to return; however to be more than just part of the scenery, as it were.
All we are asking is that Daniel Jackson be reinstated as a full and functioning member of the SGC.
Yours sincerely,

Hi, I am a big Stargate SG-1 Fan from Germany! [So please excuse my bad english...]
I think that the "savedanieljackson" page is a wonderfull idea of and for the daniel jackson/michal shanks or Stargate SG-1 fans! Luckily here in Germany Daniel Jackson is still there for 4 weeks - then "Meridian" will be shown... =(
In my opinion Stargate SG-1 without Daniel Jackson is not the same anymore. Every SG team lost a member anytime in a battle (for excample in every battle against Apophis), but not "our" SG-1. They were hurt, but never one out of the team died. And I think this should have been like that untill the end of Stargate. Of course I don't want to say that Stargate should have stopped without Daniel, but I think it's very sad that he left. I hope he will return to Stargate. He belongs to Stargate like Colonel O'Neill, Major Carter and Teal'c! For me SG-1 was and still IS Colonel O'Neill, Major Carter, Daniel Jackson and Teal'C!!!
I only can repeat that it would be wonderful if Daniel would return to Stargate! KathyONeill <girl061@lycos.de>

I live for Stargate SG-1. I have seen every episode ever shown at least 3/4 times over. Daniel Jackson has been the root of Stargate- he's such a strong character and although the fact that he has left has shown me how important he really is to the show, I deeply feel thjat Daniel Jackson has to make at least 3 appearences in the show.
*Writers:Think of how you can use Daniel's new spirit form for such great storylines! And if you're thinking of leaving him out of the movie then think again! Daniel HAS to come back and I'm sure Michael Shanks, if he has any dignity as a talented actor followed by thousands of fans, he wouldn't even think of turning down a request for a show.Clare <fox_thexfiles@hotmail.com>

I have been a fan of Stargate SG1 for many years
and hate to see such dramatic cast changes as this.
I refer of course to the Dr. Daniel Jackson charactor.
I feel he played a crucial role or "glue" to the SG1
team. Making it not just an all military venture as only
a civilial could. Without Daniel, why not just call the program "The adventures of NORAD ?". Please bring this
charactor back to the SGC. Bend to the pressure of people's

I would like to say, as i am sure many have before me, that it is not a good idea to take Daniel Jackson out of Stargate. He is a beloved character, and your show would be worse off, rather than better off, for taking him out. In Australia the fifth series is about to start on television. Being a fan of the show, i know many others across the country who also love it, and share a joint decision, that this will be the final series watched. Many agree that a new character would be good in the show, but not a replacement. I believe that the show could use a new female character, but if you take out Daniel, not even that will help you. The four members of SG1 are the backbone of the show. Without THE FOUR of them, your show would not be what it is. SG1 is Jack Daniel Sam and Tealc. That is the way it should be. No Less. If you leave Daniel out of the show, you will not have a show for long. Fans Love Daniel. If he goes, so will they. Thank you. Jaye Bird <bird_jaye>

The SG1 team lost its team appeal and some of its chemistry. Daniel was the teams conscience, the individual who protested against the injustice of the Governments insensitivity to the aliens they encountered. His format was to help these different cultures to understand their languages. The governments only goal was to obtain technology for the most part. Daniel was a sensitive to the different cultures he encountered. He was able to make his teammates and his superiors see situations in a more humane prospective. He was a true hero to the various people he came accross. The show lost a special individual when he left the show. It lost the sympathetic side and it now seems all tactical. It is still a good show, but it would be better with this character.nancy <rulizh.com@aol>

Hi.I am very dissapointed and sad about the character Dr.Daniel Jackson leaving the show.
I have read the interviews with him and absolutely understand why he has left, but I am not one bi angry at him for leaving, I'm angry at the script writers. And the rest of the staff for not giving him more part in the series. He is the main person in the show, the absolute MAIN!
How could you give him less and less to do, you probably knew that this is what it would lead to.
Why Micheal Shanks? He is everyones favorite!!!
I love him som much, I'm crazy about him, how could you take someone like Micheal Shanks away from the show?
I promise you, I will NOT watch one single episode more without Dr. Daniel Jackson in it! Not ONE! I want him back in the show, for good, and not as a goast or some machine. I want him back as he was. As a human!
He is the head of the show, you can't just replace that with something else!

I am very dissapointed for the departure of Daniel Jackson. He is my favorite character among the cast. Daniel Jackson's character also appeared in the orginal movie. It would never be the same without his presence. I am asking the producers or directors to bring him back to the cast soon. Hi,
Daniel Jackson was begining and he shouldnt be end, there isnt any more wise and kind man as he is. Michael Shanks is pure as Daniel and for very much people is hero - hero without blood, without killing and without action. He is important for marketing strategy in episodes, because he is as every human in our real world - all the time afraid about his life, but making neccesary things for other ones. Its all - think about it.

Not only does is character of Daniel Jackson almost synonymous with the phenomena of Stargate but he also adds, along with Carter a dimension to the program that holds audiences attention to the plot, without which I fear the show will degrade. This will only be compounded if O'Neills appearences are also reduced. In losing Jackson and reducing O'Neills part it's as if the producers are trying to get away from the team that has made the show what it is over the past 5 seasons.
To the producers, please reconsider these decisions. Matt Pappin <matt.pappin@ntlworld.com>

I would like to know why, whenever we get a good show that we really enjoy, that we always have to lose one of our main characters, it's like taking away a family member or it you want extreme, like cutting off a limb on the body.I am a 52 year old woman and my husband and I love watching Stargate, even the reruns, but we will not enjoy it as much if you take away one of the stargate family. Please leave well enough alone and leave him in the show!!!

Hello. This Brittney. I believe that you should keep Michal Shanks in the program Stargate SG-1. He realy brought out the character's...character! Expesially Richard Dean Anderson's character Colenal Jack O'neill. The one episode (Abyss) I think that's the name. Of when Daniel returned to try and convince Jack to open his mind and acually comfort him. If there was an argument with Michal Shanks and you then I apolagise for my complain. I'm french, and I especially like Stargate SG1. In france, season 5 has just finished, and I buy the DVD box, from the one to the last. I'm really afraid to konw that Daniel Jackson leave the show. Indeed, him and Col Jack O'neill (with two l)are the two main characters of SG1 (the only ones who gave the first victory to the Tau'ry). So if Daniel Jackson leave, I leave. To the people who make Stargate. I have been watching since the start and In my opinion the character of Daniel makes the show and Michael Shanks plays Daniel wonderfully. I can't figure out why you wouldn't want him to continue playing the role of Daniel. I do hope you come to your senses and bring the character of Daniel back but if you don't, I don't think we will have to wait to long to see him in some other show and I hope it competes with your show because if it does then you will see your ratings go down the drain.

I would like to state another post stating that if Daniel Jackson was replaced by another actor it would make the show (well for me anyway) fall apart. Just like the Show sliders when that was on. You had the main characters and then that doctor was removed and then after the show was never same and went down. I would not want to see one of the best and my favourite shows on televison loose my favourite character. I understand that it is not up to MGM but to micheal shanks. I just hope he reads these posts and reconsiders.Cheers,

Please keep Daniel Jackson he is my favourite character in the whole series!!! The stargate would not have existed without him!!!! Please Micheal Shanks Please stay!!!! You have to!! The other actors are great as well!!! I consider Daniel Jackson the main Character in the series. Micheal Shanks plays an excellent part as him. No one else could do it any better!!! SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY!!!!! I love the show and have watched every single episode from the start. I love it!!! A concerned fan

I cannot believe Daniel Jackson was written out like that. Writing him out was like removing one of the legs of a table. You can always replace the leg but it will never look nor feel like the original leg. Daniel was a leg of that table, and he complimented the other legs well. I loved his bantering antics with Jack and his humorous qwips with Teal'c. He helped make the show so funny i would look for the situational comedy Daniel would invite. All of the characters were so well written together i must commend who created them. Please bring him back and definitely for the movie. Jonis is nice and fun to watch but not on the same level as Daniel. There seems to be a void on SG1 since he left. Micheal Shanks is truely a great actor, facial expressions, character depth and all. If anything any movie he stars in i will definitely watch because i see he can carry his character very well. Please consider him to become a SG1 member again and have him on regularly. If you are not sure watch some of the older episodes, he is GREAT!!!
Sincerely,
Saddened viewer

To whom it may concern,
I may be only 15 years of age, but I can spot an actor or actress with the talent and potential to make a name of themselves in hollywood. I'm writing this letter, which is not a threat in any shape or form, as a guidance to you that I think Michael Shanks (aka Dr. Daniel Jackson) should be brought back on the show (Stargate SG-1). For I, Amanda Marshall, believe that he is the main character and soul of the show, BEFORE the likes of Richard dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping. And I'm NOT saying that there is anything wrong with Richard and Amanda!
So to finish my letter (or rebuttle if you wish to call it that) I warn you now. I will never be watching another episode of Stargate SG-1 ever again, unless it is a repeat with Michael Shanks starring or guest starring in it! Also I would like to let you know that I have seen EVERY episode (including the movie starring Kurt Russell) since it aired in Australia. And I have read the interviews with Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson), and do understand what he was talking about, but I honestly believe that you could modify his character. So to finish my letter, I Amanda Marshall, would like to say that I hoestly believe that you could do something about this. So please, get Dr. Daniel Jackson back!!! Yours faithfully
Amanda Marshall.

Well I have watched the new episodes (only the first 2, I just could not bear to watch anymore, the show is no longer the stargate sg-1 that I loved. I miss Daniel being with the team and Jonas is just too much for me to take “he is annoying” (sorry to tptb but the character is really annoying) then I saw ABYSS and that was it, I will not be watching any more episodes of SG-1 unless Daniel Jackson is brought back and reunited with the team. Daniel opened the gate, he is the soul of the team, and he is the star of the show “just like the others actors are”. Please be open minded and listen to what i am saying the show its not the same without Daniel and getting this new character that acts like Daniel is not helping either! I will buy the first 5 Seasons on DVD to remember the show that I used to love, the team and family that once was SG-1.Jose E Hernandez <edy6401@hotmail.com>

When I heard that Daniel was leaving it brought tears to my eyes.I understand why Michael choose to leave and I aprectiate the fact that the producers made it seem that Daniel still lives, because Daniel is not in the show anymore I do not believe that I will continue to watch the show.I will miss Daniel and the egereness to explore that he brought to the show.Even though he is no longer Daniel I will always rember Michael Shanks as Dr.Daniel Jackson the archioligist who solved the mysteries of the Chappa'ai.sandi-jo <sjwheeler12@hotmail.com>

Jenn writes :
"""""After all, no amount of appeals to MGM, SCI-FI, or any other PTB will bring Daniel Jackson back permanently. Why? Because it's not their decision - it's Micheal Shanks's own."""""'Jenn please read the information on this site as to just WHY Michael Shanks left and just how little a change of direction ( back to the original premise of stargate ) it would have taken to have kept him.
Yes he left of his own accord, but they could have made MUCH more effort to keep him. I am glad you are enjoying season6 but many of us are not.
I have downloaded 2 episodes that I canot bear to watch again and Abyss that i will treasure.
The truth is that MGM didnt listen and didnt care. They let him walk because somebody close to the top didnt know anything about what got many many people hooked on stargate qand didnt bother to find out.
Its called MARKET research.
When MGM had a problem they chose to see their best asset on the show as expendable. No I dont owe them anything. I have all the eps on video and most on DVD. I liked it as it was thankyou ,when it was about exploration, ancient cultures, ancient languages and 4 members of a team who had more chemistry together than we have seen in YEARS.
Season 6 hasnt got it, its not about exploration any more , or ancient cultures, and the king pin of the team is gone. Michael Shanks said he would come back if they treated the character properly. He did come back for Abyss and we had the old magic back.
Corin Nemec is trying really hard but he hasnt got the same talent, the same feel for words, language, emotions and the little nuances that make the difference between acting that grips you and acting that is wooden.
Please dont try to say that we have to give s6 a chance or we are not real fnas - we've been round this argument many many times.
We are consumers, we know what we like and what we dont like.

To Whom It May Concern:I have been a fan of Stargate SG-1 since it first aired. I was shocked when it was announced that Michael Shanks, who portrayed the sensitive and brilliant Daniel Jackson for five years, was leaving the show for good. For me I felt as though Daniel was the whole basis for the show. He was the voice of reason, the voice of compassion and I think that only Michael Shanks could bring that to the character Daniel Jackson.

Most of the time intelligent people in Daniel's position are full of themselves and are idiots. Not Daniel Jackson. I know that the actor isn't Daniel but in the show Daniel Jackson helped make the team balanced. Each of them contributed and I will miss him greatly.
PLEASE BRING HIM BACK!!!!Angelic Noble <Caitlinnicnubill@cs.com>

Dear Stargate-Producers,I love my Wednesday nights because of Stargate, but ow it is a big empty hole because of Michael Shanks not being a part of the team. The team is not complete without Daniel Jackson. It was the best team, like a family. I´m very sad and I´m fighting for Daniel Jackson. We want he back because we miss him greatly. Please let him come back.
Warm regards,
Josie and some Stargate-fans from Vienna.
