I was very sad to see the departure of Daniel Jackson in the SG-1 series. I really enjoyed the actor's portrayal - combining intelect with compasion and a very "humanistic" quality. I always felt he and Col. O'Neal off set each other very well. ALthough I would love to see Michael Shank's return to the cast, I understand his desire to pursue other work. Having said all that, I am completely irritated by the character of Jonas Quinn. I keep watching to see if he is ever going to get a personality - any personality would be an improvement. I doubt the actor is to blame entirely since his role is so poorly developed. I trust with all the comments being sent, consideration may be given to reintoroduce Daniel's character with more involvement as requested by Michael Shanks. Thank you in advance for considering this input. Sincerely, Tara R. Jenner

To Whom it may concern:

I would like to say that one of the reasons that I enjoyed, and still do enjoy watching Stargate Sg-1 is, for the character of Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks). He is one of the most interesting characters that is on any television show that I have watched recently. I would ask that you bring Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) back to his place on Stargate Sg-1. The new character that replaced Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) is an able actor as far as I can tell, but he is still not Michael Shanks. Every week I was excited to come home and watch Stargate Sg-1, due in a large fact to the character of Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks). I am still excited to watch Stargate Sg-1, but my excitment has dropped alot since Michael Shanks was dissmised from the show. Again, I would ask that Michael Shanks be brought back to his place on the Sg-1 Team.

Sincerely,

Eric Buhlmann

Dear Everyone who chooses to read this.

I was highly annoyed when Michael Shanks was announced to be leaving the show. He was my favourite character and I thought that his character brought a great deal to the show. Though I am sure that his replacement will bring his own individual qualities to the show he will never have a status in the shows fans that could rival Michael Shanks. I think that the show has lost a great actor and should realise this. I hope they bring him back into the show. I feel this could be easily achieved because of the way which he left, it was not death but evolution to I higher plane. There is no reason that he could not be written back into the stoy line in his new form or in human form but with all the powers that have been demonstrated by the beings he has evolved to become and more.

Yours Sincerely

Miss Amanda-Rose Phillips

Dear Sirs and Ma'ams,

I recently heard that Michael Shanks was to leave the show SG-1 and sta right down at the computer to find more information on that. Unfortunately I found it to be true, so now I am writing to you to kindly ask you to reconsider your decision. I think that the character Daniel Jackson, especially in constellation with Jack O'Neil is the essence of humour in the show. It also creates a certain suspense in the storyline, especially when it comes to questions of moral vs. self-defense. You would probably tell me that all this can and will continue. But besides the fact that Michael Shanks is somewhat of a cutie, it's always hard to get used to new characters, especially when you watched the show for a long time. Watching it is like coming home and having an actor taken out or exchanged is like missing a member of your TV-family. I guess I would still watch SG-1, but it wouldn't be the same anymore. It would turn into "just another show".

And since I'm on it, I wouldn't mind seeing a little bit more of the Sam/Jack story that was started a while ago. I also could stand having Teal'c say a line or two more. But I guess waiting for exactly that is what keeps you on your toes as a fan.

Anyway, I love the show and I would hate for any of the main characters to leave.

Thank you for listening!

Best regards,

Hamischa Döring

Simply put- there's a lot of crap on TV nowadays. I should know- I watch about 6-8 hours a day- in fact I pretty much do everything in front of my TV, even study. So when a breakthrough show comes along, I sit up and notice - the depth of characters, the effortless connection between the actors, the velvet smooth plot lines. This is what Stargate : SG1 is to me- not just great but brilliant. Here in Perth, Australia, the show is continuously in the top 10 on air - in fact, it's probably the No 1 Sci Fi series on free to air TV. And then suddenly, Daniel Jackson disappears- HELLO???? Without a word, he's gone - and we in Perth aren't fortunate enough to get a heads up from anyone, like fans in America. But we love him nonetheless- not just because he's amazingly beautiful, but his fantastic acting and comedic flair - the impecable timing he shares with Richard Dean Anderson. Having five SGI members would absolutely ROCK - there is more than enough room for both Michael Shanks and Corin Nemek. So, simply put, bring Daniel back- if a massive group of US fans can't convince you, then try looking at fans from halfway across the world- Down Under where we appreciate a good thing when we see it. We love the character, we love the actor, we love the show with him in it. Give us what we love. Thanks, daphne maria Fernandes (that's daphne with a 'd')

Hello,

Just wanted to post something POSITIVE here for the executives to see. I am really, really looking forward to tonight's kickoff of Stargate: SG-1 from the very beginning, "Children of the Gods", on the Sci-Fi channel.

I have been looking forward to having Daniel Jackson back for months now, and am excited that the folks at Sci-Fi chose to air these episodes for those of us who didn't subscribe to Showtime, can't get the DVDs (and what's up with that?), and don't want to download.

Now, if only MGM and the rest would find a way to bring Michael Shanks back to reprise his role, PERMANENTLY, I would be one seriously happy camper.

Thanks so much,

I have only taken interest in Stargate round season 4, so i dont know stargate that well, but i think it is a shame the Daniel Jackson left.

BUT i think if no one dies in a show its quite unrealistic. The amount of time Gao'ld or whatever there spelt miis hit the sg1 crew and they survive. I say to people GET OVER IT, al though its a loss.

I am still grieving the loss of Daniel Jackson. He was a great part of the SGC and SG1. I was very moved and upset when Daniel died.

No-one can ever replace him as he was a valued team member and was loved by everyone who knews him.

I am disturbed by your decision to remove the character of Micahael Jackson from the show STARGATE SG-1 -- I enjoy the show a great deal as does my family. I can think of no other show such as this that has ever removed a main character after such a long run. I feel that Michael Shanks is an exceptional actor and that his character Daniel Jackson is an intregral and very important part of the show. The depth of his performances have been compelling. I urge you to reinstate Michael Shanks and his character Daniel Jackson, after all, his character is our first memory from the movie that started it all. There should be no problem whatsoever with writing new scripts that would further explore the depths of this character. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Mark Hawks

Once in a while something special happens, and touches the hearts and spirits of us all. Stargate SG1, the movie and the series was one of these events. It had all the essential elements for a perfect blending of conflict, adventure and exploration of new planets. Now that Daniel Jackson has been replaced by Jonas, it seems the series has gone more in the direction of its military aspects, destroying the wonderful balance the show had. During these scary days of wars, rumors of war and the constant threat of more terrorist atacks, Stargate Sg1 had been a touchstone of hope and a reenforcement of faith that we ultimately can connect not only with each other in a positive way but with other "aliens" (a good reminder for those who judge someone by their "looks" or their origin!) The character of Daniel Jackson was always reminding the others to look beyond the obvious to discover the truth. With him gone that quality has been lost..ie.. the true heart and soul of SG1 is gone. If the show continues in its purely military form, I will be forced to stop watching. After all, I get plenty of the military side of life from watching the six o'clock news! I hope you will bring Daniel back, so the "heart" can start beating again! Thank you for taking a moment to read this. Sincerely, Louise Eidson

Dear Sir,

When the Anne Rice "I am Sci-Fi" ad started to pop up, I have to make the decision not to watch Sci-Fi channel any more. Come on, are there any real sci-fi fans in this world that actually believed Anne Rice is "sci-fi"? That was absolutely an insult to our collective intelligence!

It was Stargate SG-1 that brought me back to Sci-Fi channel. I had been a devoted Stargate fan from its beginning. It instantly caught my eye. It was intelligent, it had class, and it was right on its path to become a real sci-fi classic. And what was really unique about the Stargate series is the concept of bringing history and future together and bringing real science to sci-fi.

Major Carter is very important in making the whole picture coming true, but I doubt that she will pull it all off by herself. The Daniel Jackson character is very pivotal in this aspect, because he is the key in connecting the future with the past. With him, you have attracted not only the usual sci-fi fans, but also many archaeology/history devotee.

You may think that female fans are attracted to the series because the good-looks of Michael Shanks. Yes, it is true. But brining another beautiful face to replace him will not work. It is the character of Dr Daniel Jackson, the way Michael Shanks interprets him that made us all fans of the series. Imagine the Star-trek Next Generation without Data?

Without him, the show will never be the same again. It may still be a great show, but it will not be as intelligently simulating. And when the show starts to lose its special appeal, you are going to lose your audience. You have sth. very much on the verge of becoming the next Star-trek and you decide to turn it into another Lexx or Farscape.

Your sincerely,

Xin Wang

Dear Sir It was with much sadness thatI discovered only last week that Daniel had been killed off.I was in hospital recovering from a stroke whenStargatestarted on the si-fi channel. I had my daughter record it for me till i was allowed home.and since then while i had the si-fi channel never missed an episode.Ihave converted both my husband and a friend into fans. Ialways thought that theinteraction between daniel and Jack were some of the best scenes of the series. and i just don't understand how you can replace him and continue to have the same mixture of comedy and drama without him. yours sincerely annette williams

I've been a fan of the show for quite some time now. Though I haven't been able to watch the show as much as I would like because we don't get the Sci-Fi channel here I follow it as closely as I can and am in the midst of collecting the series on DVD. Daniel Jackson is most of the reason the show had it's start in the first place. So I firmly believe he should be reintegrated back into his place in the show. I can't say I won't continue to watch the show without him, but I can say that it won't be as enjoyable. I'll always consider the show to have a hole until he's back. So if any of you "in-charge" people are seeing this, bring back the man. Please. I'm begging you (and I never beg). So, let's make the fans happy and get Daniel Jackson back on SG-1.

Dear Sirs, I have seen many shows die because actors leave for their own reasons. I do not want to see this happen to Stargate. I have followed the Stargate from the begining and that means the real begining. The Stargate movie. I have looked forward to every new series with great interest and do not wish for it to end. I love all the actors and their characters, but Michael Shanks character completed the team. Do not get me wrong I like Cormec, but he is not Daniel Jackson. The interplay between Daniel and oneill was priceless. I especially like the fight they had when oneill killed the robot girl who made the replicators it showed deep caring from Oneill for Jackson and it showed how even Daniel did not fear the Col. They all have a their strengths and weakness that took six season to develope it. Do we have another six season to go before we get to know Cormec character. I guess with all my words I just really want to say please find a way to bring Michael Shanks back to the show. As a fan I love the work you do on Stargate and i know that you are not to blame, because he left for his own reason. I just wish he could have seen how important he was to the show. He filled Spaders shoes and out grew them and made the character of Daniel Jackson more real at least to me. Sincerely, Robert L. Gilliard Jr.

For a fan of science fiction, it is with great displeasure to see non-sci-fi movers and shakers making decisions they are unaware of the importance thereof. Suppose I can into your world and took away coffee; or ties; or power lunches. These things may or may not be meaninful to you but how arrogant of me to just come into your world and take something out of it without knowing how you would feel about its loss. You people seem to know very little of the story of STARGATE and care even less about its fan base for you to take the character of Daniel Jackson out of the story. Although there is very little that I can do to stop you from doing what you apparently have already done, you should hope I never get to make a similar decision in your world.

I never thought I'd fall asleep watching an episode of "Stargate" but that's just what happened as I dozed my way through the Season Six opener, "Redemption". I felt as if I was watching a completely different show. The atmosphere was all wrong, everything was subtly different and off-key, and even though the storyline should have made it a gripping episode it just came across as disjointed and lacking in cohesion.

The reason for this? The gaping hole left by Daniel Jackson's "ascension". Jack O'Neill seemed to be present in body only as he intoned his lines with the minimum of feeling or conviction. The whole thing made me desperately sad. The heart and soul of "Stargate" has been ripped out with the departure of Daniel and the indefinable magic that made the program so popular, has gone with him. What a wicked waste of a wonderful character who inspired such loyalty and affection in viewers. Jonas Quinn has little charisma and cannot realistically hope to command the same devotion.

Do what you can, cause most people will just give up on stargate and probably change the channel or not watch it all.DANIEL was a favourit of most people and SG1 will not be the same without him.

To Whom It May Concern,

I was quite shocked, and saddened, to see that Michael Shanks left the show. My understanding on his depature was due to a decreasing role in his character, Daniel. That's very unfortunate. Daniel drew me into SG-1 several years ago and was one of the biggest reasons I became a fan of this show. For me Daniel, was the hero I'd like to think I would be. Because he wasn't a military or safety forces person, but an intelligent and honorable civilian who rose to challenges. I'm non-military and I could relate strongly with Daniel. I wish you would highly consider bringing back Shanks. He was a terrific actor and is a missed presence on the show. But don't get rid of Corin Nemec, either, just have both co-exist. They are breaths of fresh air from the military characters played by Amanda Tapping and John Dean Anderson. Please consider this letter as support for Michael Shanks' return. Thank you.

Dear sirs:

I have always enjoyed Stargate SG-1 and have usually elected to watch it when I could. I have only recently been able to catch it on FX on a more regular basis, but I was shocked, surprised, and very disappointed when the character of Daniel Jackson was killed off.

Daniel Jackson, as portrayed by Michael Shanks, was the heart and soul of the show. That particular character, and that particular actor, in addition to the themes of archaeology and liguistics, were the main reasons I cared to watch.

Since you let Michael Shanks leave and eliminated his character, Stargate SG-1 has become a big BORE! A serious yawn fest. It is Friday, September 27th, and I just watched the episode where Daniel Jackson comes back to aid and comfort Jack as he is being tortured. It was fabulous and glowing and only because of his presence. And because of the charisma of the actor. Not to mention his gorgeous, sexy presence. The next episode broadcast held my attention for approximately 5 minutes before I turned to a baseball game. And the playoff spots have already been clinched. And I am a woman. That is how boring it is. That is how boring they have all been since you cut out the heart of this show.

Pity. Show some intelligence. Bring him back. Please. You are smart people. You can figure out a way to do it. If not, it will be your loss. Because this actor will surely find other work. And I will watch it instead. And a great character and a great show will, in the end, be lost. Far too prematurely.

Sincerely,

Kathy McConnell

Hi! Hunderte wollen das Michael, also Daniel, zurück kommt.

Hello,

I am writing to include my support to keep Stargate SG-1 strong. There really isnt much appealing sci-fi shows availible right now ever since ST Voyager ended. ST Enterprise is just starting out and doesnt seem very strong to stand on this own yet. Stargate SG-1 was just starting getting interesting when major changes to network and cast took place to (in my opinion) weaken the show. I believe that is something isnt broken, dont fix it. I do believe that the character Daniel Jackson is an important role to the series and provides a basis on the original story line. Dont let what happend to Sliders happend to Starget SG-1.

Short and to the point. Daniel represents a character that a lot of Sci-Fi fans (esp me) can identify with. We will never be some super military commando, but many (like myself) are dreamers and Daniel represents that dreamer in each of us. It makes the shows much more enjoyable and in the end, I really identify with the position/character of Daniel. Don't turn SG-1 into nothing but an action show. Many of us like shows that make us think also. A good mix/blend of the 2 is hard to achieve sometimes, but when it is, the results are fantastic.

I have been watching Stargate for some time now and especially loved the Character that Michael Shanks played of Daniel Jackson.

I found him to be an intellegent and brainy kind of guy that seams to know exactly what he was doing and the fact that he could speak many languages and read strange artifacts etc.

I personally think that the show will lose it's valuable fans if Daniel is not to come back as the heart and sole of the show was Daniel and afterall he was the one to discover how the Stargate works.

Please bring Daniel back.

Dear Producers

I (female aged 38) have been watching Stargate SG-1 since the movie and have always loved it. My son aged 14 is also a big fan. We have only recently had the episode Meridian on Australian commericial free-to-air television. We find getting episode information difficult, even from the net, as even the offical site is only showing up to season 4.

As I watched Meridian I thought WOW, he is going to have an even bigger role in the show, as he will be able to get information and bring it back to the team to help in their fight against the Gould. I thought he could become like Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. Then I suddenly thought, I hope this is not Stargate's way of killing someone off and writing him out of the show. So I went online to find out and was horrified.

I have been finding the show less appealing as Daniel was seen less and less and have been inclined to only come into the room when I heard Daniel's voice, while my son was watching it. I felt that once Daniel's wife died it left the way open for him to have other romantic interests, it makes for a well rounded show. Heck, how many women did Captain Kirk kiss in original Star Trek. It wouldn't hurt to make the most of Michael Shank's sex appeal, he is a brilliant actor. In science fiction anthing is possible and it should not be hard to bring him back with bigger and better story lines.

Is it too expensive to have an archaeologist on staff as a consultant, to keep up the standard of fasinating historical information. I loved Daniel's ability to read and speak many languages.

Without Daniel the show has no intellecual appeal. It was a great combination of intellegence and action, now it will degenerate into nothing more than a shoot-em-up, crash-em-up show aimed at an audience of teenage boys. I feel the show will lose it's entire female audience and a lot of it's mature age male audience as well. I will not be interested in watching it without Daniel.

Daniel was a marvelous role model and had a great relationship with Jack, which showed a good balance. Daniel made being a nerd cool and showed that sometimes brains are better than braun, to save the day.

I won't be interested in going to a movie without Daniel as it will be nothing better than Lethal Weapon, Mission Impossible or Terminator. I loved the Indiana Jones movies for their combination of action and intelligence.

Please make Michael Shanks an offer he can be happy with, because if he finds himself a new show, he will be taking his loyal fans with him.

Well, what a total disaster. Stargate without Daniel is a bit like watching Bonanza without Hoss or Adam Cartwright (my age is showing but no matter) . The reasons for these characters exiting the show were dissimilar ( I loved them both) but the effect was the same- Bonanza to my mind never recovered. Daniel Jackson is a pivotal character in both the movie and in the tv series, different people portrayed the character but Dr Daniel Jackson was recognisable nonetheless. His unique knowledge and ability to make connections which no-one else on the planet were able to make resulted in the discovery of the secrets of the Stargate in the first place. Come on guys, Stargate without Daniel, ho ho ho. Bring him back or watch another winner become a 'what else is on?'.

We agree with comments posted upon the SDJ website that the SG-1 show has undergone a process of "dumbing down" as time has passed. Further to this, the producers dealt with the death of Martouf in an extremely poor fashion; an amazing display of articulative incompetence on the part of the writers. It is a further intolerable insult that they now seem to be in the process of removing one of the most central and pivotal characters, Daniel Jackson.

Our statement is quite simple; there is a lot of good television about nowadays, and limited time in which to watch it. If the calibre of the SG-1 story is reduced to an unprecedented degeneration through the removal of the character of Daniel Jackson, then we will place our valuable time elsewhere and not watch the show.

Please reinstate Daniel Jackson and give him the depth of character that he once had; and allow him the (now long-gone) scenarios which will best express the complex intellectual and humanitarian character which was so involving in the earlier episodes, and which contributed to our watching the series in the first place. Writers and producers, why don't you pay some attention to what the actors are saying and feeling; with the level of demoralisation that you are subjecting the cast to (for no good reason) you are obviously now working from some heartless economic realm--this path will usher in the demise of the show. Wake up.

I love science fiction, and Stargate SG1 is my favorite sci-fi show yet. SG1 wouldn't be the same without one of its members. I would hate to see Daniel go, especially if Shanks still wants the job. I'd hate to see any change this big to the show, but I'll still watch it as long as it is still quality. This is sad. Jamie Beck

I have been a faithful fan of the SG1 team from the very conception of the original movie. I have enjoyed the episodes and have come to love all the characters. I was shocked to find out Daniel was written off the show. I admit I cried during the episode of him going from one side to the other side. It was well written and the acting by each member of the team was so believable. I always wonder if it is the choice of the actor or the writers that a character is written off the shows. Since I have read an interview by Michael Shanks, I am inclined to express my opinion. I would not like to see Corin Nemec written out, but if you only allow for a certain number of characters in a show, I would diffently vote to have Michael reinstated as Daniel Jackson. I find it difficult to understand how the writers, producers, the 'powers to be' can not think up ways of maximizing each character in different ways on different episodes. There are plenty of programs on the television that use that concept. By featuring one or two characters in an episode you are able to use all the characters throughout the season and satisfy the fans. I believe the fans and audience in general are the ones you produce these wonderful shows for in the first place. Should we not have the opportunity to tune in each week and be entertained?

I was so disappointed to see less and less of Richard Dean Anderson. He has a personality that outshines most people and yet complements his co-workers. If it is his choice to retire I will understand it, but if he, as Michael seems to want to continue to be a part of the SG1 team, then I implore you to make every effort to keep the team together for many episodes to come.

Sincerely,

JoAnn Deschler

I'd like you to know that I am an avid viewer of the Stargate SG-1 series, been watching it ever since it came on. (I admit, the movie got me hooked. Simple fact is when I saw the series I was so thrilled you would've sworn I was smoking something...). I find my self a little more than upset now that I'm finding you're taking Daniel Jackson off of the show. I mean, wasn't the whole plot built around him in the beginning? I might be thinking of the movie possibly, but something tells me the majority of the reason for opening the stargate was because of the Go'uld people stole those women, specifically Daniels Wife, from Earth. And the only way they were able to figure out how it worked was Daniel. Am I atleast a bit close? If not maybe I wasn't following it very well. But it still seems to me (and probably a great deal of the other viewers) that the whole concept and series was built around Daniel. And if it's not the Movie sure as heck was. I know, this probably isn't under much control, seeing as we must respect Michael Shank's decision to quit, but I don' think it would've hurt to negotiate it with him instead of practically letting him leave. I can honestly say that you'll most likely lose more viewers by taking him off than anything else. Upon looking at various websites, that the majority of viewers are female and everyone seems to be implying they only watch it for Shanks. IF everyone honestly believes that then why are you letting him leave in the first place? I can only assume that you plan to end the series very soon if Daniel Jackson no longer appears. Something tells me that'd be better for ratings then continue the show without the Original Main Character to begin with.

Granted I came late to Stargate SG-1. However in the past two years have been catching up viewing episodes when they are played on local station Global-TV in Winnipeg. I have grown very attached to the program and to the character played by Michael Shanks. I think his character, Daniel Jackson, adds an intellectual/scientific balance to what can otherwise deteriorate into just another "shoot-em-up" type of program. To write out this character would, I believe, be doing a disservice to this program. Respectfully Submitted Michael McArdle

I have been thinking about S6 and what exactly the series is missing besides the obvious. I would say "Chemistry" the special moment in a show that lifts an ordinary show to extraordinary. RDA & MS together, indeed, MS with all his other co-stars and even the guest stars shined. It made me care what happened to SG1 and I wouldn't miss an episode for anything. Now I don't care anymore and that makes me sad. I keep waiting for Daniel to walk back through the door, and until he does I cannot watch Stargate. I'm sorry if that makes me a sad person but that's the way it is.

I have been a fan of Stargate and Dr.J. since the movie, but when I found out that they were planning a series, I was ecstatic. I loved Richard Dean Anderson on McGuyver and counldn't wait to see him play somebody completely opposite his original role. When I first watched the pilot, and met Dr. Jackson again, I knew I would love the show, he always managed to irritate O'Neill in some way, but they soon became good friends. When I found out the Daniel was "Ascending", I was very upset because the chemistry among the group would be disrupted; but then entered Jonas Quinn, strange and unusual. At first I didn't like him but his strangeness soon became endearing, I mean dipping your shrimp in chocolate milk, Yuck! No one on this planet would do that, right! Right! I personally think that if Danny did come back, he and Jonas would be a great asset to SGC and SG-1. I personally miss Dr. J. and would like to see him return. I miss his sense of humor. Remember that Jonas is a scientist and Danny an archeologist. It does make it harder for them to figure stuff out without thier linguist with them now, Jonas may be a fast learner; but nothing beats a learned scholar. Please reconsider, and bring him back, he's more important to you than you realize. Have you gone on-line to see the web sites dedicated just to him. The general populace love Daniel, as well as me. It's the only show that really let's US use or imagination, to wonder what it really would be like if we were able to do this.

I have been a loyal and devoted fan of SG-1 since the first season. At that time it was on Showtime. Therefore, the many times I considered cancelling Showtime I just couldn't do it because of Stargate. Whenever I was not going to be at home on Friday nights, I would set my VCR to record it. Now I am gone most Friday nights because of my son's ballgames, and I am no longer bothering to record it. I simply cannot bring myself to watch the show with this new Jonas character. I made myself watch the show several times to try to give him a chance. I really wanted to be fair. But I simply cannot tolerate him. Maybe it was the way he was brought in and given Daniel's things. And now he knows everything it took Daniel years to learn. Whatever it is, I don't like it. I'm sure he is a very nice man and I'm not trying to get him fired. I JUST WANT DANIEL BACK! I'm sure there must be a way. After all, this is science fiction.

Thanks for listening.

Dear MGM, SciFi Channel and Brad Wright,

I am strongly shocked after hearing that the heart and sould of the amazing TV series Stargate SG1, Michael Shanks aka Daniel Jackson ins the series, is out of the show!

This cannot be! He is the pure intellectual foundation of this show. This is how shows begin to die, i cannot see my favorite show going through this too.

The amazing balace of the cast, each in his own special way, that is what made this show amazing and unbelievable.

I ask you, I even beg you, Please return Michael Shanks to the cast of Stargate SG1.

To the Producers of Stargate,

I was deeply disappointed to discover that Daniel Jackson's character had been killed off in the Stargate episodes aired in Australia in the last fortnight.

I have been watching Stargate for years and the main reason I watch it is to see Daniel's character. His character is the one with the insight, awareness and understanding of other cultures. He is the one that makes the communication and understanding of them possible. Whilst I appreciate Amanda Tapping's character being smart and resourceful and find her a great female role model in many ways, she is still very much under O'Neill's thumb and rather than putting forward different viewpoints, generally her character uses her impressive skills to help O'Neill deliver on his lame brain arrogant ultimatums and take all the glory. Daniel's intelligence and sensitivity is the perfect foil to O'Neill's thickheadedness, brashness and inability to emote. I especially appreciate Daniel as a male character being sensitive and insightful, as well as strong & determined. I truly wish for more men in the world like Daniel, and there are precious few good role models for them.

Without Daniel to provide a different perspective and some real feeling, the show degenerates into simplistic "fight the evil aliens/save the innocents" plots with lots of action but no real substance. I do not watch Stargate for action, there are a multitude of other shows on that level to watch if action interested me. I watch Stargate because it puts forward interesting ideas and viewpoints, and stimulates me to think and feel things beyond what I might think and feel in the course of my everyday life. Daniel is the brains and soul behind the show. Without his character I will not be watching Stargate any longer.

Yours Sincerely, Anne Cregan BSc(Hons)

Dear MGM,

Quite simply, Daniel Jackson is the only reason there is a Star Gate. Daniel Jackson was the central character in the film that spawned the series - he was the one that cracked the Star Gate symbols and made it work. Without Daniel Jackson, the series is simply a bunch of military types hooning around the universe with no apparent moral motivation other than to figure out how to defeat their enemy. Daniel's unique humanitarian take on the universe as SG-1 explores new planets creates a balance in the team at times when military might would prefer to destroy rather than seek to understand.

Having Daniel Jackson ascend to a higher plane is a really nice idea. But the fans, myself included, aren't going to accept that's what happened unless Daniel Jackson in his new form reappears in the show at regular intervals like Samantha's father does. Why have Daniel become an enlightened being if the team doesn't benefit from that?

Bring Daniel Jackson back. We love him too much to see him permanently removed from the show.

Yours sincerely, Petrina Frost Sydney, Australia.

Dear MGM,

With the move to the Science Fiction channel it is difficult to gauge the impact of Michael Shanks' departure on the overall ratings of the television series Stargate SG-1. In my humble opinion, Mr. Shanks' work on the series has consistently contributed to a positive impact on those ratings.

It would be interesting to analyze and compare the ratings of season six where he appears as a guest star to those where he does not appear. The results may be of interest to MGM.

The character Daniel Jackson not only brings into proper balance the aspects of the other protagonists in Stargate SG-1, the character's insight stirs the audience to reflect on the many levels of the plot and arc, which dramatically enhances the appeal of the series.

Michael Shanks is a great asset to MGM because his unique skills and approach to the character lead the audience to recognize the many profound ideas that make the series so intriguing to watch. It may be beneficial to MGM to explore the various options of utilizing Mr. Shanks' inimitable talents.

Thank you for your time, Jill Junkala

To whom it may concern,

Stargate Sg-1 just isn't the same with out the character of Dr. Daniel Jackson. No one else could do the part justice either. This is coming from an adult who knows her own mind. I am not a person who can't accept change either, I do think that the introduction of new characters occasionally is a good thing, but it isn't the same without the original cast. Although having been a Navy wife I do know that assignments don't last forever no matter how good you are. I don't know if the budget has shrunk or not, but even the story lines don't seem to be what they used to either, unless it's just because Michael Shanks is no longer part of the show. It doesn't seem to flow as well, and if the producers don't or can't see that, then it is up to us to point this fact out to them. Threatening letters only make us all look like a bunch of mental cases needing 'keepers'. Yes I am crazy about Stargate SG-1, but I am an otherwise mentally sound individual. I am horrified that there are people out there who would even think of trying to get their way by using that type of coercion. Also, there are so many other cultures from ancient societies who worshipped multiple Gods to make this a very long lasting and lucrative show. Maybe the show needs better writers. If that is the case, the producers of the show need to search out new talent. People like us for instance, who make up scenarios for fun. I have a few of my own, although a screenwriter I am NOT. I do have a smidgen of writing experience. Perhaps a writing contest where the winner gets their episode actually shot and aired, or the idea at least, if we all really suck at the writing aspect of it. Star Trek as big as it is, has similar publicity grabbing ideas on the table even now. Perhaps the producers of Stargate SG-1 need to jump on that particular bandwagon and ride it for all it's worth. I deliberately PAID to watch the show. I subscribed to Showtime for Stargate SG-1 and that show only. I no longer subscribe to Showtime. The only time the channel was turned on in my home was every Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 during the SG-1 run. The only reason that I could think of for the producers to not bring back the character of Dr. Daniel Jackson, would be because Michael Shanks no longer wishes to play the part. Anyone else in that role would be disappointing. So with that in mind I have something personal to say to Michael Shanks. We miss you Michael, terribly. There are so many of us who want to see you come back to the show, and I hope that knowing we all love and miss you will help you to decide to come back. If you decide not to come back that’s okay too, and I for one, wish you the greatest luck in everything you do.

Hi people... I am really upset at the moment, here in England we just heard that Daniel isn't in season 7, which has been agreed on by the producers, also HELP! Jack O'Neill may not be there either... I need someone's help, I have a site that needs help maintaining, but also needs to be put up and I also would like to try a brainstorm to make a new campaign... something catchy, but I haven't had many ideas yet. Dear MGM and SciFi channel affiliates, I must be honest with you, I do not have cable and do not get the SciFi channel, but that does not mean I don't watch and love Stargate SG1. I watch Stargate avidly, and am especially looking forward to this next season, but I have to say I am both appalled and angered by the removal of the character Daniel Jackson, he is the main reason I watch the show. He is by far the cutest and most versatile character on the show. I am afraid that if you have failed to notice this fact you are very definitely lacking in intelligence and vision. Also if you fail to bring back Daniel Jackson as a full time cast member very shortly, and I find that he is lacking in this next, the sixth season, I will have lost my reason to watch the show and will no longer be among those numbers counted as avid fans. I am sorry if this bothers you, but I only hope my words can help fuel you and those in charge to see that Daniel Jackson's character is one of your most valuable and useful on the show. I hope you reconsider your actions or I am afraid you may find a lot of your audience lacking this next season and you will not get the chance to make up for your actions in a seventh season. Yours truly, Jennifer Percival.

To whomever it concerns,

Sure Daniels gone adn we're all upset, but GET OVER IT! He may have been a crucial member of the team that brought balance to the show, but as long as there are many more action scenes showing battles among the Azgard/Go'aold it may restore that balance. Don't get me wrong, I hated it when I found out that Daniel was outed but if thats the way things are going then I just think that the producers should try to rebalance the show and make the most of what is left.

I have watched Stargate-SG1 since the beginning. Apart from one regrettable scene in the pilot SG1 movie, I have enjoyed every single show. It has had action, adventure, humor, drama, intelligence, ethics, mystery ... all rolled into one. I have gone from watching about 19 tv shows a week, to watching only 2 - and Stargate is #1.

But I have to tell you, I am very unhappy with the idea to write Daniel out of the show. He was the character that tied the others together, giving the voice of reason and ethics to balance the military O'neil, the technological Carter and the warrior/honor focused teal'c.

Why do something to ruin a group that has only been making the show work, and actually becoming more popular? Find a way to bring him back. His understanding of the archaeological and historical is needed - badly. Bring him back.

Thanks for listening.

to whom it may concern: i have watched the show whenever i have found it on the schedule. i have seen many episodes though not in any sort of order. i am not even sure what season they are currently in. i enjoy it so much i have STARTED to buy the dvd's.

i have NEVER seen an episode without Daniel Jackson in it. I NEVER will see one. i was cruising the web looking for what seasons of the show were out on dvd when i came across a website (not this one) that informed me of the departure of the daniel jackson character more than well played by michael shanks. i could not believe my eyes. i thought someone was yanking my chain. i was quite dismayed to find that it was apparently true.

i still have trouble believing it. i mean surely they (producers) could have gone further (much further) in an attempt to get him to stay. but reading the various interviews it seems that they almost wanted him out the door. therefore i will go on the premise that they are the ones to blame.

the SG-1 team is just that, a team. the characters are of course played by more than capable actors, but they are still a team. think of a chair. a chair with four legs. when you pull out or take away one of the legs what will happen to the chair. it will fall. you may redistribute the load on the other 3 legs (add another actor) in an attempt to get the chair to stand but it will b doomed to failure. eventually the chair will fall.

already i "hear" that cracks are appearing. that is for another time.

i enjoyed the character interactions on the show, teal'c - jackson (thought provoking) oneil - jackson (the most amusing) carter - jackson (much more needed here) etc,etc

you need to put the leg back under the chair and find a way to get mr shanks back on the show. you have a good thing going here and could ESILY get 3,4,5 or who knows more seasons out of it. don't permanently screw things up by leaving him out of the picture.

also i believe false accusations by one of the staff of the show should be dealt with.

thank you for your time

r stull

p.s. as i said before i enjoy the interaction of the characters so much that i will not watch a jacksonless episode just as i would not watch one without one of the other 5 original characters (general hammond #5)

i am sure the actor you have hired is more than capable however he is not part of the "team". i think you need to your producers down a peg before they kill your golden goose. already they have cost you one sale of the season 6 dvd when it comes out.

cheers

When I first saw the Stargate movie, and the initial episodes of Stargate, I became a fan. At any one time, I might watch only two or three television programmes "religiously" each week. Stargate had been one of those. I thought the balance between the characters was complimentary, and the storylines well written.

In NZ, it is only a couple of months ago that Daniel Jackson was written out. I was disappointed, but not surprised. This is the first time I have ever browsed a site for information on Stargate, but I was curious to find out why Jackson's character was written out.

I had noticed that the balance between the characters had changed dramatically, and subsequently, the storylines had suffered. Specifically, the writers had degraded Daniel Jackson's character, and lost the "feel" of who he was. He seemed to become passive, and was often undermined, especially by Jack's character. There were times, when watching, I would think "that is not true to Daniel Jackson's character".

The focus (storylines) swayed towards Jacks character, which upset the whole balance between the relationships. I do not mean to undermine any of the other characters, as they are all great, rather to say that the writing for Jackson's character seemed lacking.

Consequently, I started to miss episodes, and I have only watched one episode since his character was written out. I am sad to say that, for me, the show has lost the original appeal. Not soley because of Daniel Jackson's character leaving, but rather because the balance between the characters, and the essence that created for the storyline, has been lost.

Dear Mr Shanks, Hi! Please take a moment to read this, I promise I don’t go on… that much.

I’m another fan… well, fanatic actually but I really love you’re character of Daniel Jackson, I was wondering why you felt you should leave the series as I see no reason for your actions? Meridian had to be the most frustrating episode I have EVER seen, us fans all had our back up at the producers and mine’s still arching. I’m in England so I haven’t been able to see the episodes yet, (not that I actually want to now you’re gone) Please come back, I don’t ask you dedicate your life to the series but you should know how wonderful Daniel Jackson’s character is to all of us, we associate him with the goodness in all people, now… SG-1 are reduced to a bunch of military… which is never a good-case scenario. We want Daniel, and we’ve all gone crazy… (Check… www.savedanieljackson.com)

Anyway… key words… PLEASE… return… we love character… miss ya… annoyed at producers and resorting to writing useless letters to all who will read… Daniel Jackson… unique… irreplaceable… honourable… cool… SG-1… unfinished business and everything else is beyond my intellectual mutt of a brain… Please respond to my letter. All I want is to know you got this letter, as a fan I hope to receive just a tad bit of compassion. Yes, we’re all crazy sad pathetic human beings, but we love Stargate and don’t want it to go to hell because of some disagreements, that’s even more pathetic than us…

Please respond… thank you… You’re faithfully, Amy Hadrill, 16 England.

9.15.02 Dear Mr Hank Cohen,

You probally wouldn't remember my letter that I have previously sent as there is SO many loyal Daniel Jackson fans trying to save him, but my name is Amanda marshall. I'm just following up on my previous letter to in form you that daniel jackson's final episode (Meridian) has aired here in Australia. So until season six, episode Abyss, I will NOT be watching the show (Stargate SG-1). Also I would like to in from you that whenever I read about the new episodes of Stargate SG-1, I instantly feel sick, thus meaning that the show SUCKS with Dr. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks). So remember, no Daniel Jackson, less fans. And don't think I'm kidding. I go to a private school, am one of the two school captains, and everyone at school (students) agrees with me and are joing this petition with me. By the way, I should mention that there is OVER 500 pupils at my school. And they too are (or should I say WERE) loyal fans who will not be watching the show until Dr. Daniel Jackson stars in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Daniel was the one who figured out how to use the Stargate int eh first place. He's the one who interacted with offworld speicies and is the one person who shouldn't leave. He was the backbone for SG-1, and that's where he should stay.

Daniel was the glue that held the Stargate team together. Without him there is a void that has yet to be filled and in all honesty I do not believe it can be filled. Bring back Daniel immediately.

To be honest, Im glad that if one of em had to go, it was daniel jackson and not tealc or cournel O'neil.

I want to see more of general hammond going in the stargate and fighting, and for the stragate team to befriend or control the replicators and use them against there enemies

AND FOR GOD SAKES STOP GOING TO FARM PLANETS RUN BY STUBBURN VILLIGERS AND TOWNFOLK, THATS REALLY ANNOYING.

I've been whatching Stargate since the movie - I love Sci Fi stuff and so does my partner. Thursday Sept 12th 2002 was our night to whatch Daniel Jackson evolve. We thought the episode very well done and until now, expected Daniel to possibly appear as the "evolved" individual throughout the episodes. We could not imagine how the show could "be" without the entire team - who will do the deciphering and first contact stuff? Daniel may not have played the "starring" role, but then none really did - they all just fitted together as the producers, writes and actors of the series are supposed to or even aimed to. We all have our favourites - me, I simply like a good show, of which I feel they all provide. I would like to ask that Daniels' character not be written out - he is an integrial part of the show and can be used for more interesting stuff - like bring in more decipering of the "Alien" ancient histories, relating it back to "Gods" worshipped on earth as you have been doing etc. He really can be used alot more, we are not necessarily all interested in just fighting. We are interested in intelectual stuff too - Sci Fi stuff that gets you thinking and believing. Well, that's my say and I hope it's not in vain. Michael Shanks is very much a part of an excellent series and really is worth the effort to be brought back into the show. Thank you.

Dear MGM,

I have just watched the end of the fith season here in germany and I was literally shocked to see, that Daniel was written out of the show!!!!!!!!!!! In the beginning I thought, that he will just bee away for a couple of episodes, but now I am reading on the net that he will never return for good. What I also read, is that he isn´t wanted anymore on the show because of the producers. This is what I do not understand. After all these guys are only producing stargate to to get as many people as possible watching it so that they can earn a lot of bucks by selling the series. As in many other series many people will stop watching it when one of the most popular feagures left the show. The same will surely happen to stargate. So throwing Michael Shanks out of stargate won´t do the producers any good, because they will losse a lot of viewers and therefore loose a lot of money. This decision is no good at all!!!!!!!!!!! Though I really do love all of the characters of SG-1, the show will not bee the same without Daniel Jackson and I for sure will not watch it anymore, unless I can look forward to Daniel coming back. So I really do hope that MGM will change it´s mind and do what will bring them more money (cause this is all it´s interested in): bring Michael Shanks back to stargate!!!!!!!!!!!

When i watched a preview for the next episode where Daniel Jackson is unfortunatley written out of the script, i thought to myself that Daniel would not be the unlucky one who dies, as Daniel felt immortal, indestructable.he survived so much why not this. As the week proceded, thursday finally strolled along and i took my seat on the lounge and got ready for suspense, thrill and exhilaration, like every other week. All my fears and nightmares came true when it was announced that Daniel Jackson was going to die. I turned to my mum and '...if he dies i refuse to watch it again'. the next day at school my friend said the same thing to me. The ratings are dropping already. I have watched stargate from the beginning and it is very unfortunate to have to stop now when the show was in the highlight. Stargate is one of the few things that i watch on tv and i always made time to watch it. Honestly Micheal shanks was the reason why i watched the show. He has a great personality, good looking and although he may not have been the leader of the SG1 team he sure was the most favourable. I am utterly dissapointed that he has left and i hope that someone out there will recognise the importance of him being in the show again.

Dear Sir/Ms

I was very saddened to see the demise of the character Daniel Jackson in a recent Stargate episode. You have broken up a wonderful team. Why? Stargate is the only programme I watch on TV and when I'm away I get my wife to tape it. We both love it and have seen a wonderful improvement in the quality of the scripts since the earliest episodes which were pretty average. Daniel's character has also grown with the series as he became a kick ass warrior while retaining a lot of his academic nerdiness. He was a loveable character and I enjoyed his interactions with Jack O'neill and the others.

He was also a civilian and could question Jack's plans which made for some great personality conflicts. If something isn't broken why would you need to fix it. I would like to see Daniel back in the series as I think he is a pivotal character and the team will just not be the same without him.

All the best

Dear MGM,

I only started watching STAR GATE the week "Menace" aired on normal TV. I adapted to all of the characters almost immediately, especially Daniel Jackson.

There was "The Sentinel" the week after.

Then "The Meridian" last Thursday in which I saw Jackson, the geek, the space-monkey, the brain of the team, die from lethal dosage of radiation in the event of saving an entire planet.

The regrets that I have are many, but one that really hurts is that I never got a chance to see ALL of the classic, original characters enough.

I understand the meaning of Meridian now - well sort of, anyway. Oma Desela is Mother Nature (or Mother Earth as my acquaintances say), Jackson goes with her, to the path of 'enlightment'. That's totally understandable even though I can't express it in words or on paper.

I also understand that it was Mr. Shanks (Michael) who requested to leave the show. Five years is a long time for a fresh-adult actor to be with a show. With "Meridian" Daniel is written out, but the door is still open for him to return to the team, for he's not truely dead (when he's not really alive either, which is extremely confusing). This means that Mr. Shanks, IF he decided to change his mind (which is the reason for my writing this, in hope that he does, because the show, the team, and the fans desperately need his presence), the door is still open for him to return as a regular, classic character on the show.

I hope he does. Or maybe he won't. All I'm saying is that everyone needs Daniel to come back.

We will all be truely grateful if he does decide to come back to the show. We need Daniel to come back.

Please. Reconsider your writing him out, and please ask Mr. Shanks to reconsider his leaving the show. We really want Daniel back.

Thank you.

Yours Sincerely,

Dear Sir/Madam

I saw Startgate in the cinema some years ago. It was more than impressed and came to the view that this was the best sc-fi since/with star trek. Well I am watching the movie now on the vcr and hav been an avid watcher of the tv serial - hey i was delighted to be able to watch on recent trales in oz/nz.

The part of daniel jackson is core to the SG-X team. What would SG-Z be without Daniel Jackson? I wonder. Please keep Daniel in the team full-time.

The Character of Daniel Jackson, is and integral part of the Stargate Mythos. I have been a fan since the original movie and a fan of the series. To remove the Dr. Jackson character is, in a word, wrong. Michael Shanks did an incredible job as Dr. Jackson.

I cannot understand what kind of idiot would attempt to change the tone of the series with the elimination of an integral character. The show is not the same, and as such, I enjoy it far less. The show was a "not miss", now it has been relegated to a "if I feel like it". The remaining original characters are still there, and performing as well as always, but the chemistry has changed.

I request, that the moron who made this decision, be made to reverse himself before he is fired.

Thank You for your time.

As far as I'm concerned, Daniel Jackson is the heart and soul of Stargate SG-1. He is my favourite character, and he is a large part of the reason why I watch the show religiously. Michael Shanks is a terrific actor, and I feel he should be on the show as long as he wants to be. Here's hoping all this can be resolved and Daniel will be around for many seasons to come!

I've just finished watching my beloved Daniel die on my favourite sci-fi show! What can I say but I'm beside myself with disbelief! Daniel was my favourite character in the series (and indeed the original movie), after all he was/is the main reason why the Stargate is functional at all!!!! He is also the 'heart' of the show, so how can he be removed from, or replaced in the series?

It's such a shame as Stargate is the one thing I really look forward to after a long day studying, and now I feel it will not have the same appeal for me any more! So, I don't care how you do- just BRING DANIEL BACK!!!!!

Dear Mr. Hank Cohen, For the longest time I have been an sg-1 fan. It grows in the family, as a family every friday night we would sit down and watch it. We are all in shock of losing daniel jackson. Think about it. I watched some of the episodes without daniel in them, and I just wanted to shut it off, it wasn't the same with him not being in the show. Of course, though, I continued to watch knowing that sometime in the near future we might see him back on the show. As you can tell there are many fans out there that do miss him and the show. Its something we learned on growing on to, getting attached to the show, watching it with the family, discussing it with friends. Daniel was the "Heart" of the show, its just not the same with him not being there. Imagine him not being there, that is kind of scary. So please, Sir, bring daniel back onto the show, and continue the legacy.

Thank and regards, yours truely, Gina Trehus

Dear Mr. Hank Cohen President of MGM, Bonnie Hammer, President of SciFi Channel, and Brad Wright, Executive Producer of Stargate SG-1.

My name is Vanessa and I have been a Stargate fan for as long as i can remember. I cannot sit and tell you what to do, or rave and carry on about how i'm a huge Stargate fan because that would not be right or true. All I can do is try to tell you how i really truely feel. Last night I sat down and watched Daniel Jackson, my favourite SG1 memeber die. I was really upset even though I knew he was going to die months before. He is the heart of the show... he doesn't have a single bad bone in his body and yet all the bad things seem to happen to him. After watching the episode I sat down and pondered over it, i talked about it all day today trying to get other people's opinions and I can only come to one conclusion. SG1 is not the same without any of the Four memebers. We have grown to love them for who they are and what they do... but not as individuals, rather as a team. SG1 is not SG1 without Daniel,Jack,Sam or Teal'c and if replaced the new members would not be accepted simply because they are not the person they took over from. Therefore I am asking you to please, bring our Danny back in any possible way, to the family he belongs to... SG1 cannot live on without Daniel Jackson.

Sincerely

Dear MGM,

I have wanted an opportunity to write to you regardng a couple of subjects.

Firstly, you incredible mistake at letting M. Shanks AKA 'Daniel'

If any of you have read the books 'The Hero with a Thousand Faces' Or 'The Writer's Journey' then you would also know that you have made a Boo Boo.

Any storyline that 'Stretches the Credibility Gap' (Sci Fi especially) requires 'Archetypal Characters'

'Daniel' was the 'Archetypal Sage' Or the giver of important information and wisdom.

His character had been perfectly moulded for the part.

I won't go into the 'Archetypes' of the rest of SG-1, you should know this better than I.

However, Quinn is quite UN-Inspiring. Although he helped Earth with a much needed material, he is in fact a 'Quisling'.

bring Daniel back, and you will bring back the 'Wholistic' pleasuer of the the four Team Mates Interaction.

Second item, I'm from Oz (Down Under) I collect the Videos, I only get 3 tapes every 8 weeks (I'm still waiting for the last 6 episodes of season 4 !!!!)

Can you kick the Distributors along so my 'Little Backwater Country' can get a bit more with it instead of being the 'Tail-End' of the episodes.

Thanks & regards,

Steve Sutton.

Stargate is the only show I watch religiously - no NASCAR, football, basketball, or anything else.

Daniel Jackson made the show come alive. He wasn't important in and of himself, but without him O'Neil is a boring character, and in fact, the whole show is too serious to be fun to watch.

Maybe this is for the best. I'm sure we'll all get more sleep from now on because we won't be hunting the odd places that Stargate has been put on the TV schedule!

Too bad, though.

to whom it may concern, i have loved your show for a long time, because of the individuality of the characters, their relationships, the moral problems they faced, and the action too. i am sure many people agree with me. but i would like to tell you how much the show has impacted my life. when i was still in high school, i first watched the show and was amazed by the alien races, the mythologies, and especially how it related to the past on earth. i had to choose subjects to do for my final school exams, and i was so intrigued by the ideas on the show, i did physics and ancient history. it turns out i was not very good at physics! but i loved ancient history, and the more i delved into it, the more i realised how clever stargate is, and that "nerds" like daniel can be cool. i learnt from daniel about the moral responsibility of knowledge. i have now left school and am at sydney university, studying classical archaeology, ancient history and english, and i love it. i am grateful that your show inspired me and helped me discover what i really love doing. last night, i watched daniel's ascension, and it was heartbreaking. i felt like not only was this character i had grown to love going, but the whole team, of which he is an integral part, could never be the same again. Everything he stood for, truth, justice and hope, are shattered. Maybe you think that it is just a tv show and this is an extreme reaction, but to me it was more than that. daniel is my hero. i would love it if daniel could return to the show. i realise this is up to michael shanks too, but i know if everyone worked together, the show could once again be extremely thought-provoking and exciting. i heard that there is the possibility of a seventh series and a movie. i hope this is true, and that daniel will be a part of them. thankyou for your time, and the wonderful worlds which were opened up to me through your show. sincerely, Hannah Mitchell.

The episode where Daniel was killed off aired last night in Australia and I must say I share the anger at this move. Since I first saw the movie which preceeded the television series, my favourite character in the show has been Daniel and whilst I am sure the replacement (and the rest of the cast) will do a fine job, I really do think it a tremendous shame that the producers and others have not worked considerably harder to retain the character. I hope that something is done to rectify the problem as I too am concerned about the "dumbing down" of the show and am wondering whether it is worth continuing to watch the show.

Having seen 'Abyss', I now realize why I cannot watch any more of series 6. The presence of Quinn as a member of S.G. -1 has destroyed my ability to suspend my disbelief - an essential requirement for any sci-fi programme. I can suspend my disbelief over the 'wonky' science, but not over the unreal human behaviour. I simply cannot believe that the U.S. Government, the Pentagon, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Hammond, Colonel O'Neill and the remains of S.G. -1 would accept Quinn as a team member.

Anyone who takes sensitive defence material to a superior alien power which, for all he knows, might use it on his own people is, de facto, A Threat to National Security of his own world. I simply cannot believe that such an one would be trusted to be any more loyal to aliens than he was to his own kind. So far as I can see, his position is untenable.

I have now learned that there is to be a seventh series. Well, unless we have

THE TEAM, THE WHOLE TEAM, AND NOTHING BUT THE TEAM,

then I for one am not interested.

Best wishes, Sue - the Disillusioned. --

I had noidea what was going to happen last night, although I am a big fan of the the showi prefer notto have episodes ruined by reading fan pages/offical pages.

I think they have very much crippled where the show can go from here by removing Daniel Jackson's character he was the best character in the show and also the most human. He has saved the planet and sg-1's lifes too many times to count primarily due to his way of thinking and his lingustic abilities.

It was a big mistake removing his character the show can only go down hill from here

first of all, writing daniel jackson out of the show is a big mistake,i have seen shows that did this and the show then fell off the face of the earth never to grace the tv screen again, second of all,the show star gate sg1 rocks like no other science fiction show, that includes over Star trek tng so if the producers wish to take it off the air, then go ahead, through your money away, cause that's what you'll be doing, take it from me an avid science fiction watcher, i hope you guys get smart and leave the show alone, and as far as richard dean anderson is concerned,i am one of your bigest fans sir,so if you have to take a break ok, but not while the show is still on,please...

A good day!

My name is Peter Oletič, and i'm an 18 years old boy from a country called Slovenia. It's is in Middle Europe.

First I would like to tell U, that SG is the best series ever made. And it would be a waste letting Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) die. He's one of the four SG-1 original members. He CAN NOT be replaced. Whoever might take his place in the team, he can't. Daniel was in first place the man, who opened the door into space, and was the one responsible for countless victories over the enemies. He was there from the beginning of the series. I mean, if we look at an example: Your body, it works only properly, if all of your parts are there and intact. If you take Daniel away it will be as if you would remove your brain, heart or any other vital organ.

I can't accept the thought of not having Daniel in any other season, which may (and surely will) come. But not just Daniel. Please, don't take away any other team member. And I'm not the only person thinking like this. There are millions of us. So please give him a second chance. if not, a lot of people will stop looking SG. For we think (I might speak for almost all of us)that Daniel is essential for the well-beeing of the show.

Oh, one last thing, how can you do this to the fans? I mean, if you kick him out? How can U take a such major resposibility? As the boss, it's your job to keep the viewers satisfied, isn't it? And I guarantee, if you get rid of DJ, you'll fail your job. Because you will take away someone, who is (partly) the reasom that daily millions of viewers watch SG.

Thank you for taking the time and reading this letter. I hope that you will really consider what you'll do about DJ. And before you do anything, sit down, lay bac and consider what pros and cons will this action have.

In hopes for a wise decision, yours sincerely,

Peter Oletič

It's just a tv show, its just a tv show----- nup, doesn't work. Saw Meridian last night and couldn't post before this, too upset. The writers and producers of this show have just killed the central lynch pin of the team and the show that is SG1. MS might not be the star of the show and no, the show is not all about him and I wouldn't want the show to be all about him. But as an actor MS and the character he played were the glue that kept the whole thing together.

Once again Michael Shanks gave us a powerful performance and the other regular actors bounced off him to lift their performances.

By letting MS and the character of DJ go, the show is cheapened, the viewer is left poorer and another once wonderful, rich and intelligent show bites the dust. When will these people learn?

Hi All, I looked so forward to seeing the show tonight on Prime. As the story progressed, I was left and still are shocked and disappointed. You just can't get rid of an original cast member. It could be likened to the X-Files, when Mulder was pulled from the show. It just destroyed the whole reason for watching it, and even though Daniel, Michael Shanks, was not a singled out main member, he was part of a team and that essence of a team made him a main member. I feel that the show has been pulled apart for me and I wish it hadn't because it was always something I looked forward to. Now I dont know if I could even watch it in the same way as I once did.

Greetings from Western Australia, Well... the axing of Daniel Jackson from SG-1 is typical of American television right now. All we see here in Australia of American television is the huge increase in the military side of American television shows, dare I say it, the dumbing-down of intelligent content and society and culture and common sense, and the promotion of redneck hillbilly stupidity and the "shoot 'em up" mentality. Who said the Wild West was dead. Hey, where is Clint? What is my point in relation to SG-1. Well, Daniel is a scientist and his character is obviously far too smart, and too intelligent, to be understood by the average imbecile American (at least this is the view of MGM). American television is simply perpetuating the image of the stupidity of its citizens by axing the most intelligent characters from television shows. MGM must have a dumb-ass president, but then what can you expect when you have a redneck hillbilly with the IQ of a field mouse and the language skills of a gopher in the White House. God save us! I lived in America for a year. Some of my extended family lived in America for 30 years. I like America. However, it deeply saddens me to see America becoming the Joke of the Planet, and the Fools of the Universe. The people at MGM are doing a great job in perpetuating this impression. The people at MGM should be ashamed. I bet they even have script editors who scan the scripts for any words over 4 characters in length so that these words can be deleted, or substituted with alternatives, probably from the junior grade school curriculum. Anyway, I have had enough of the exporting of dumb American culture, of the rednecks and the hillbilly mentality. I have cancelled my subscription (for now), at least until some semblance of sanity is returned to MGM, and until Daniel Jackson is reinstated to the senior role in SG-1 that his character deserves. Somebody over there in your United States please give us some hint of hope and faith!

Let me just say! what?? I finished watching stargate at 8:30 on channel 7, and as soon as i did, i came on the net and looked to see if it was true, was Daniel gone for good, surely it was a two parter? I mean we've all seen these before right? Daniel can't be gone, Its not right, and if he really is gone, it will never be the same. They say they're bringing in a new character to replace him? Well no one's ever going to replace him, i can tell you right now, that Stargate will last for another season at most, then the numbers will drop off because they upset a perfectly working order, eventually stargate will be no more.... and when that day comes.. i dont know what i'll do....

I dont know how i'm going to feel about watching all my old episodes on tape, knowing that i'm seeing Daniel, and hey, he's dead now, :( Not happy.

Oh well..... I suppose the best things cant last forever........

.........I wonder how much longer i'll be a watcher of stargate now.......

sniff....

Dear Producers, I have watched Stargate from the very beginning on TV, I was happy to see the TV series adapted from the original movie with Kurt Russell as the main character. That original movie had Daniel Jackson as the supporting character making his role in the TV series just as vital in the storyline as O'Neill. I find it very disappointing that this character has been written out it just doesn't make the series creditable anymore in my view. The character of Daniel Jackson was one of the main supports of the show with him missing from future episodes I will not be watching anymore. I certainly hope you all have a very big rethink on this one you will have a lot of very unhappy fans worldwide if you don't.

It's like losing a family member. Each has their own character and idiosyncracies.. a great mix and synergy...

Why for the love of God, would you let him leave.

I watch this show religiously... I love sci fi, but I loved more how all the characters interacted.

Daniel Jackson is gone, well curiosity will make me see the next episode, but my loyalty is being tested.

I've just been teaching English in Japan for 10 months, with *no Stargate* on Japanese TV. I joyfully arrive home. I watch about four episodes of Stargate, my *favourite* TV show. Then Daniel Jackson died... WHAT?!?!

Ridiculous! He was my (and a *host* of others!!!) favourite character! Bring Daniel Jackson back!

After being so happy at being able to watch Stargate once again (after a 10 month drought), you steal a foundation stone of the show!!! You steal my Stargate joy! No longer will the show be on my regular viewing schedule.

Well they say all good things must come to an end. Sad but true. My wife and I have watched StarGate since the beginning like most of the other voices here. We have just finished watching the episode where Daniel Jackson moves on. It came as a bit of a shock as we go out of way not to read or listen to any possible 'plot spoilers' so we can enjoy the show on the night. I think the writers and producers of the show have lost the plot. The actors in this show make up up the SG-1 team. Emphasis on TEAM. With the character Daniel Jackson no longer in the show the team will become unbalanced. The mix of the individuals working off each other with a look here, a few words there could invoke all sorts of emotions in the one hour timeslot allocated. The concept was good from day one. New, exciting, and at times educational. Bringing characters from myth, legend and history into the show's scenarios was a great concept that has obviously hit a chord with viewers. These storylines combined with the polished (yet refreshingly natural) acting of the 'Team' has kept the show enjoyable and anticipated each week. Michael Shanks character in this show has been intergral to it's success. The writers and producers have been found wanting in their ability - or willingness to keep the Daniel Jackson character in the prominence it belongs. It also is a shame that Michael Shanks isn't into acting only for the money but obviously has real regard for his character, the fans and the show's direction. Pity the creative staff can't be held in the same regard.

You cant ignore Daniel, his humanity holds the show together. If you knoew anything about Star Trek, DS9, you'll know what im talking about. The loss of Daniel from stargate is akin to the eventual irrelivence and 'walpaper nature' of Worf when Jadzia departed. ITS NOT THE SAME WITHOUT DANIEL. Stargate is second rate without him, just as it would be if any other character had left.

Hi, SDJ people, this isn’t a criticism at all, it’s just a regular fan’s eye view of the situation from someone who has watched the show from the beginning. I think you’ve done a wonderful job in campaigning for the character of Daniel Jackson. He was the original character in the movie and should have always have had at least as much screentime as Jack IMO. I like RDA’s Jack well enough in the early seasons (although certainly not in the later ones), but I certainly wouldn’t have kept tuning in for him, whereas the character of Daniel grabbed me in the movie and grabbed me even more in the series, thanks to Michael Shanks. I’m glad you’ve done so much to point out to the people making all these decisions over the past few years just how foolish and lazy it makes them seem to sideline the co-lead character in the show, and the character most associated with all the attributes that originally gave the show its uniqueness. Now there are all these rumours about s7 being a ‘go’ and I just wonder if people have thought about what they are asking in wanting Shanks to go back to the show. I know you have never asked for him to do anything he doesn’t want to do, and are just trying to support him so that he can make his own decisions rather than just being rudely ignored by MGM and their ilk, but is it really going to be a good thing for him to go back there? Is there really a fanbase left that even wants to watch this show any more? Perhaps the old magic is still there somewhere, perhaps they’ll be able to get it back, but they would have to improve the writing out of all recognition and they would have to take away the nasty taste that 3 years of a petty and vindictive campaign by MGM of deliberately downgrading Daniel’s importance in the show and in the way they promote the show has left. Just to scratch the surface or all the nasty petty things they’ve done, are MGM going to reissue the S3 videos with a picture of Daniel on the back of the spines? Are they going to reissue the DVDs with different covers that don’t deliberately promote the guest star over Daniel in the very few episodes where he actually had a reasonable part? Are they going to get an apology from the writers to Daniel for going out of their way in Wormhole Xtreme to remind everyone that although the others are real characters Daniel is someone played by an actor, and not even the actor who played him in the movie so yah boo sucks to you, Michael, oh yes and let’s get in another dig about Need trying to imply you’re a whiner. Are MGM going to come clean about telling all the online retail outlets to put Amanda Tapping’s name before Michael Shanks despite the fact that she was always billed after him? Are the fanclub people going to apologise for the lithograph which put Daniel as a support when Michael Shanks has higher billing than Amanda Tapping? Are they going to apologise for making sure that in every single fanclub pack they sent out, the picture and file order was Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Chris Judge and not cast order? Have you ever heard of any other show on television where cast order was deliberately ignored as much as on this show? Are they going to issue some kind of memo to all the outlets they currently deal with confirming that actually Michael Shanks *was* the second lead for the first 5 years of this show and his name should figure accordingly? I don’t think so somehow. Are the people making the show relying on all the fans having collective amnesia or are they just going to lie and say that none of the above ever happened? These people have been so petty and so nasty for so long that it’s almost impossible to imagine that situation changing. One of the writers deliberately sought out the on-line company of a group of fans who are practically an unofficial anti-Shanks group and whose hateful posts have been prominently displayed on forums where that writer himself posts, so he could hardly be unaware of their rudeness towards Shanks. Is he going to apologise for that or make those fans apologise? And who is going to make them change after all? The nastiness clearly starts with MGM, so Hank Cohen must be someone instigating it or at least approving of it, and the same nasty attitude is visible in posts and interviews from Brad Wright, Robert Cooper and Joseph Mallozzi, 3 of the writers who are writing the show and 2 of whom are going to continue to write for the show. They’ve all said inaccurate and unpleasant things about Michael Shanks over the years. The slighting and sidelining of the character of Daniel went on from the end of S3 onwards, no one of normal intelligence could have been unaware of it, so it’s impossible that RDA didn’t know about it. Perhaps he didn’t have enough power to do anything about it, but as a producer that does seem a bit unlikely, suggesting that he just didn’t care about it. If he didn’t care about it then why should he suddenly start caring about it now? So even if Shanks was persuaded to go back for S7 what possible reassurances would the writers, producers and makers of the show give the fans that it isn’t going to be to the same situation as before, with episodes being tailormade to fit not the talents of the actors and the original direction of the show, but the shortcomings of writers who don’t want to research any mythology and can’t be bothered to write for Daniel unless he’s having a romance with someone? It’s not Corin Nemec’s fault, the poor guy has made the best of a bad job, but the character of Jonas was a total insult to Daniel – in the way he was introduced into the show when the focus should have been on Daniel leaving it, and in the way they just willy-nilly gave Jonas a lapful of Daniel’s characteristics as if that is all Daniel is, a few character traits cobbled together. Having his video diary on the Meridian DVD is another insult and they’re doing that now so MGM obviously aren’t going to change. I also found it pretty aggravating that they ignored cast order yet again in the way they wrote the s6 scripts by lavishing all that time and attention on Jonas, who is supposedly billed after Teal’c, yet still couldn’t be bothered to write for Teal’c. It can’t be because Teal’c is an alien that they don’t want to write about him as Jonas is one too and they couldn’t stop writing about Jonas, so how come Chris Judge’s character gets downsized yet again to make way for a new character played by an actor who supposedly has lower billing than him? And what is the matter with these actors’ agents? Is the same company managing every actor on the show or something so doesn’t care if one client gets insulted and belittled as long as it’s another client who gets promoted? And I suppose the bottom line for me is how are we, the fans, supposed to buy back into a show that’s all about team loyalty and friendship when there hasn’t really been any of that shown in real life? How can we buy Jack as a team leader who will do anything for his team when in real life RDA certainly didn’t seem to act that way? And also given how bad the writing of the show has been for the past few years, why do Michael Shanks fans want Michael Shanks to go back to a badly written show when there are so many better things he could be doing with his time to further his career? I think the character of Daniel Jackson is the best one to ever appear on television, but the rest of the show just dwindled and dwindled until Daniel was the only thing to keep watching it for. And if RDA is part-time in S7, given that the guy does apparently have a really big following in the US, won’t that mean that a lot of the fans are going to switch off whatever happens, and then Shanks will get the blame for the show failing? Just some questions that have been going around in my head that I’d like to throw out there. You guys seem to have a better idea of what’s going on around here than anyone else so maybe you know how these things are going to be solved if Shanks should come back to the show, but I have to say that from where I’m sitting, it’s not something I want him to do unless he’s going to be getting some kind of public apology from the people who have treated him and his character so incredibly badly for the past 3 years. Maybe he is ready to let bygones be bygones, he seem to be a very nice, very forgiving kind of guy, but some of the fans are going to find it very difficult to forget all the lousy things the people making this show have done over the past few years unless there is some clear indication given us that things really are going to change. My feeling at the moment is that if I want to watch Daniel being sidelined and his actor insulted I can just pick up any of my S4-S5 DVDs, I don’t need to tune into S7 to watch it happen again. If MGM and the producers actually addressed how badly they have behaved and apologised for it I might feel differently, but as long as they keep behaving so badly while pretending that they’re not – RCC being the latest in a long line of culprits – I don’t want to watch any show they’re making, whoever is in it. And until there is some clear indication that things have changed on that set I would much rather hear that Shanks has an interesting role in a different film or TV show working for a completely different set of people than hear that he is going to have to be working with these particular people or for MGM ever again.

I have been a fan of Stargate since the movie and haven't missed an episode. Meridion has only just screened here and I was shocked. Daniel was one of the integral parts of the show. There is no Stargate with Daniel Jackson. I will can honestly say that I won't continue watching the show.

How Can you get rid of Daniel???? He's one of your main characters. I have totally stopped watching the show unless Daniel is in it! If I want to go watch Stargate I have to go to my DVD player now to see anything GOOD! Who's next Jack O'Niel? perhaps Sam, Teal'c, Gen. Hammond?? If you get rid of Daniel ...well, you might as well CLOSE THE STARGATE.

Thank You, Melanie

Are you mad ? No ,dont answer that ,I already know the answer. How could you get rid of Daniel? He is the main character. Daniel and Jack are Stargate.I for one will never watch another episode without him.Stargate used to be a really cool show, a must see show every week but the last season the only reason to watch was to get a glimpse of Daniel. You are a bunch of idiots if you think the show can survive this. Season seven without Daniel and only limited Jack are you kidding? Talk about milking ....get the last drop out of the show and hope that the fans loyalty keeps the ratings up for a bit.We arnt all that stupid you know but I guess enough of the fans are that stupid to keep you in business.I wish everone could see through you.You lot make me sick.

Dear Producers of Star Gate, A sad ending for "the 4 musketeers". After reading the interviews I understand why Michael Shanks left, but I hope there will be more than one return of him, and it should be in the way he wants it. Since Star Trek (the original series) there has been no sci-fi series that impressed and entertained me that much. Those lovely characters "the militaric"-"the scientist"-"the exotic"-"the emancipated" formed a team that complemented one another, the implemented sense of humour was great, both is missing in many other series. I admit that in a way I identify between DJ and Sam Carter. Although I am doing a good job in investigating metalls for ships, I am still happy to have some heroes. "Only" Jack, Sam and Teal'c: I am sure that the series will appear more (too much) militaristic. And I think it is important to have more heroes than pure military ones. In the last episodes it was evident that the stories were changing, becoming more strange (e.g. what are these kiddies in uniform doing out there?). Without DJ something will be missing within the remaining 3 musketeers which can not be replaced. The series - the composition it represents - will decrease. Please bring back the original idea. Kind regards Dr. Eva Junghans

Stargate will not be the same without Daniel Jackson. I think it is real shame you have withdrawn him from the show and feel strongly that he should be included in as many episodes as possible (and the movie) - my future viewing of stargate, and my loyalty to the show will most likely be affected if he does not return.

Thank You

Hi,

this is Ulrike Lang writing to you. I am a big fan of STARGATE and have seen all episodes. I am very very sad that Daniel Jackson has left. Stargate without Daniel is not the same, because I miss his humor. His character is very special for the serie.

So please give the character another chance and reintegrate him. In our German papers we could read, that Michael Shanks was not satisfied with the role. So I think people can talk together and for every problem there is a solution.

Mr. Cohen, Ms. Hammer & Mr. Wright,

Daniel Jackson is the heart and soul of Stargate and to be quite honest, the show stinks without him. You can replace any other character without too much damage… well… it may be tough to replace O’Neill but Jackson IS the show. Maybe we fans need to rally against Stargate (drop the ratings) until you either bring him back or it’s thrown on the shelf forever. Seam kind of extreme? Not at all… I admit I would miss it, but most of the Jackson fans are not interested in watching the show without him anyway, so we really have nothing to lose.

I hope it doesn’t come to this… and don’t think your loyal fans are not capable of doing this… because we are.

No Jackson – Boycott Stargate!!

I can get this message out to couple million fans in just 2 weeks, so think hard about it. We want Shanks back!! We expect a response from you soon.

I don't know the reason he was removed, but guest spots like when he came back and talked to Jack are NOT good enough. PLEASE bring him back. SG1 can be a 5 member team! Please do it for the fans!
