My family enjoys watching Stargate SG-1, and our favorite character is Daniel Jackson. I do not think that we would watch the show any more without him, and I am sure a lot of other average people feel the same way. Please do not get rid of him, it hurts you in the long run. To the powers that be:
I am in the US Navy and have been overseas for the past
year. Being a long time fan of the show I couldn't wait to
get back to the states to see the new season. Man if I had
known there was nothing to come back to I would have stayed
over in the Persian Gulf. I came back to find that you had
written off one of the most important characters.
What is Stargate SG-1 without Micheal Shanks? His
character (Dr. Daniel Jackson) was one of the cornerstones
of the original movie as well as the series. The series just
doesn't seem to have the humanity it used to have with him.
Dr. Jacksons flawed non-military character and his natural
curiosity made him an enjoyable character to watch.
Now it seems to be a darker Stargate SG-1 without him.
Micheal Shanks brought something to the character and the
show that can not be replaced.
Granted you seem to be trying to replace the character
with Jonas Quinn, but it's just not working. He doesn't
seem to have the same passion that the Dr. Jackson/Micheal
Shanks character had. You had a perfect SG-1 team, now the
SG-1 team is missing something important....Daniel Jackson.

I have been a fan of Stargate from the original movie. I have watched every episode on Showtime. This meant staying up til midnight many times. I even what the repeats in the off season. It is a great show and the majority of the episodes are great. I was very SHOCKED at the removal of one of the lead characters Daniel Jackson from the show. It even took me a few weeks to realize it was "for real". I kept expecting some other miracle to occur to bring him back. But, alas my hopes were in vain. From the inception of the show, it was Daniel who translated the symbols, figured out the stargate, and on many occations translated other vital information from other planets. His innocent charm and his sense of convicions can never be replace by a photographic memory and a bunch of books. Jonas is ok, and you could even leave him on the team. To me the REAL team will always be, Jack, Daniel, Sam, and Tealk.

While M.G.M. and Sci-Fi are dithering, I would like to remind them that a seventh series would be an immense success if:1. the show returns to being TEAM based, with EVERY member of the team having a fair share of the action (and lines), and being supportive of each other. No more inter-team conflict. It's unpleasant. Arguments? - fine. Nastiness? - no, no, no, no, no. Learn to know the difference...
2. the show returns to using THE STARGATE and visiting strange new worlds and interacting with the natives. This means bringing back DANIEL JACKSON, as only he has the expertise and charisma necessary to do this. No amount of book-reading can substitute for his unique abilities. And if the scriptwriters are unwilling or unable to put in the necessary research to write good off-world adventures, then get rid of them. Granted Earth-based adventures are so much easier to write, but if fan fiction writers can do it, why not your paid staff?
Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern,
I've only just recently started watching SG-1 Monday
nights on the Sci-Fi channel. And I think it's perfect the
you incorporated the movie so well into a series. I was
especially impressed with the way the writers brought back
the existing characters of Jack O'neil and Daniel Jackson.
I enjoyed watching the interactions between these two
pre-existing characters. Which is why I am somewhat
distressed to learn from the web-site that the Daniel
Jackson character was killed off and that the Jack O'neil
character was going to become less and less.
My question is what are you doing to the heart and soul of this show? Daniel Jackson has always been an important part of the team, with his extensive knowledge of Egyptology and languages. I've was told that you have added a new character Jonas Quinn who is the Daniel Jackson
replacement.
I've watched the new season of SG-1 with this new character and he's no Daniel Jackson. So far I've been unimpressed with this new addition. He's just a Daniel clone. Why bother Micheal Shanks came in and made the Daniel character his own and now your trying to sell us a cheap immitation?
Personally since you've gotten rid of Micheal Shanks I
haven't watched much of the new season with the exception
of the one Shanks guest starred in. Without him the show is
seriously missing the friction between the O'neil and
Jackson characters that makes up the heart and soul of the
show. To watch Dean Anderson and Micheal Shanks play off
each other, they do it so well. And I'm sorry but that can't
be duplicated. Micheal Shanks playing Daniel Jackson
and Dean Anderson playing CPT O'neil are important for this
shows survival. If you lose those two actors/characters
then you've lost your show. Because anyone who's seen the
movie and decides to watch the series will have no
established characters to identify with.
I hope you reconsider and bring Micheal Shanks back you
really do need him. SG-1 isn't the same show without him. Heather A Fay

Dear Sirs,
I am a fan of Stargate-Sgt1 program. I watch it every episode, and I like all the casts. But now, I've missed some one, a talented actor that I admire so much, Michael Shanks playing the role as Daniel Jackson. I feel now so empty without his participation. I sensed it for some reason while whatching Michael Shanks' last role, that something was not going to be right there .....
I would certainly like to have Michael Shanks back in the cast! And I hope he will make a comeback pretty soon!

Daniel Jackson is really a center piece of the show. With out him it will really suck. Me and my girlfriend have watched the show since it started and it's really the whole team together that makes that show what it is. You see this in a lot of story lines where the dynamic of the group is what makes the story truely interesting. I think your fan base will be eroded with out Daniel Jackson.

After seeing the first 6 episodes of the 6th season, I have to add my two cents worth and agree with the thousands and thousands of people posting here and on many other sites.Stargate without Daniel is just not worth watching anymore. I tried really I did. 6 episodes, 5 of them total rubbish. I couldn't believe it was the same show.
Jonas is a terrible character so flat and dull I don't blame the actor I just think he is terribly miscast. Perhaps he would be better in something a little lighter, comedy perhaps?
'Abyss' showed that it can still be a great show. Michael Shanks and Richard Dean Anderson are amazing together a joy to watch.I wont be watching anymore season six.
If there is to be a season seven please get Michael back for everyones sake it will be unwatchable without him.

I watched the Stargate SG-1 Season 6 episode "Abyss" this week and consequently I felt compelled to write to TPTB asking that if at all possible please write the character of Daniel Jackson back into Stargate SG-1 and get Michael Shanks to play Daniel Jackson again. I have been a fan of the original Film as well as the Television series, since it was first shown in the UK, and the strongest element for me was the relationship/friendship/interaction between the characters and in particular between the characters of O'Neill & Jackson.
I have tried to watch SG-1 with the new character of Jonas Quinn but it is frankly AWFUL. He is absolutely no substitue for Daniel Jackson.
This year after many months of annoyance and anger I had reluctantly resigned myself to living without the Daniel Jackson character. As an SF fan I am having to get used to being ignored by TPTB when they make bad decisions about programmes I like.
But now I find when I am actually faced with the Season 6 episodes I can't be bothered to watch SG-1 anymore. And that is a huge change of mind for me because in the past number of years I always made time in my schedule to watch every new SG-1 episode as it was shown on TV: I also watched repeats, bought the DVDs and a lot of associated merchandise. Since Daniel has been written out I no longer feel inclined to do any of these things, this is a a highly unsatisfactory and unhappy state of affairs for me.
In the episode "Abyss" I saw all of the things that Season 6 and some of Season 5 was missing: my favourite characters, brilliant dialogue, a very strong and emotional story and passion in the actors portraying it. The witty badinage/philosophical arguments between O'Neill and Jackson and the deep bond between the two characters which is portrayed so well by the actors.
The history between the characters in SG-1 is such an important element in why I love the programme. Jonas Quinn being slotted into replace Daniel Jackson is not a convincing or appealing alteration. After watching "Abyss" it brought home to me how much I miss the SG-1 of the previous five seasons and how apathetic I feel about Season 6.
I'm getting so fed up with the fact that formulaic conspiracy/zap-the-aliens plotlines, Nielsen ratings and studio executives are the driving force behind what happens in SF programmes. What happened to good storytelling and character development?????

Yes, please do keep Daniel Jackson in the show :-) For a start, as a fellow Daniel, he deserves nothing but the best treatment! And he's an important part of the show, a good balancing character in the SG1 team. And we're used to him. I agree with the authors of this site that he should remain in the show. It wouldn't be the same without him. What's next? Teal'c falls off a cliff? Carter has a stroke? O'neill gets run over by a drunk driver?Oh, no, I got it - Hammond stumbles down the stairs and breaks his neck, and is replaced by General Christina Dudley, played by Britney Spears...
Keep Daniel Jackson in!!!

Both my wife and I were please to learn that "Stargate SG-1" will return for a seventh season. This series remains, recent issues aside, one of the best written and acted shows on the SciFi Channel. Prior to moving to the SciFi Channel, however, "Stargate SG-1" lost one of its most valuable characters, and through his loss one of the most interesting relationships between characters, namely Danial Jackson and his relationship with Jack O'Neil. Daniel Jackson, one of the very few likeable and positively portrayed scientists in television SF, got my family hooked on SG-1. Michael Shanks portrayal of this character far exceeded that of James Spader in the original feature, and Mr. Shanks talent as an actor kept us wanting more episodes that focued on Daniel (remember Shanks remarkable acting in the Season 3 episode "Legacy"? We certainly do). And Daniel's odd and quirky friendship with Jack really made the show; the way their banter would often trail off awkwardly was unlike the standard "good buddy" relatioships common in other shows, even though they were friends willing to risk all for each other. My wife and I were able to get others interested in watching SG-1 thanks to Mr. Shanks' portrayal of Daniel and his interesting relationship with Jack.
Unfortunately, Daniel is no longer a member of SG-1, and having read some interviews with Michael Shanks I can't blame him for leaving. My wife and I noticed long before SG-1 came to the SciFi Channel that Daniel's character wasn't given the prominence he once enjoyed, and the show has suffered for it. We loved Daniel for his role as a scientist, yet many later episodes are only military in nature, without the balance that used to characterize the writing. In Season 5, Daniel is gone, and so is his interaction with Jack. Many of the friends my wife and I were able to interest in SG-1 no longer watch.
But this current situation can change. With a new season before us, Michael Shanks and Daniel Jackson can return to "Stargate SG-1" and the show can return to the high quality it once enjoyed (and our friends can return to watching). We encourage you to bring Michael Shanks and Daniel Jackson back as regulars on "Stargate SG-1."

To whom it may concern, since Michael Shanks character Daniel Jackson has left the show I have not been as interested in the series. As I understand it many once devoted viewers feel the same way. Without Daniel, the story just does not seem to have the same diverse view of the subject. It's like something is missing but you just can't put your finger on it. Stargate was originally about Daniel. Without him, you don't really have Stargate. All the due respect to the other actors, they are great too. I just hope you can see fit to get him back on the show.

Daniel Jackson's character is amazing, and offers a perspective that is incredibly important to the plot of an episode. We can't bare to see him go because he adds so much to a show and all of us fans know that the potential for this character to grow is excellent. Dear MGM and StarGate producers:*Please* reinstate Daniel as a central character to
StarGate SG-1!
Very few television shows are well written. Very few
characters are well developed. Truly interesting dynamics
between characters is *very* rare. Don't change
something so impressive!
I watch StarGate SG-1 because it has all of these.
The interaction between Daniel and Jack (and the
other characters) is PRICELESS, and Daniel's nuances of
behavior are terribly believable. Please don't take that
away! In the last ten years I can name only a few
shows that I've truly enjoyed following from season to
season. Of all of them, though, StarGate SG-1 is the
BEST. Please reinstate Daniel so I can enjoy another
season of a show with characters built over time!
It's a great SciFi show, but I'm not in it for the
SciFi. I'm in it becuase of the oustanding writing,
acting, and well-developed interplay between characters.
Daniel is central to this!
Please feel free to contact me at any time should you
wish me to elaborate further.

Ok people its now time for the British view of the current situation with Daniel.
Hey i've got an idea bring Daniel back! Without him Stargate still an amazing show but it could be so much better if Daniel came back. Jonas can get hit by a car or something and Daniel replaces him. In the UK season 6 has only juat started and were only about 5 episodes in, where as the americans have seen it, but I have to sat Abyss ( the episode where Daniel returns) proves how great it is to have him in Stargate.
Listen to me Richard Dean Anderson and MGM i may only be 15 but I know when a programme makes the fatal mistake of killing a important character. Although your bringing him back for a couple of episodes in season 6, you must bring him back for season 7 (i've just heard that season 7 is coming out yey). Bring him back Carter would love to see him again.
Please do it for us......

"Abyss", the season Six episode with Michael Shanks guest-starring, merely serves to illustrate the appalling emptiness of the previous five eps in which he did *not* appear. The difference in Richard Dean Anderson's performance is nothing less than startling. From being scarcely more than a cardboard cutout so far this season, he came to life in "Abyss" with a sizzling, impassioned performance that had me glued to the screen. This was Stargate as it used to be before it degenerated into a headache-inducing collection of loud explosions and meaningless plots. Before it's too late, allow Daniel Jackson to "descend" and resume his rightful place as part of SG-1. Jonas Quinn adds nothing to the dynamic of the show and is an offensive reminder of what has been lost in Daniel Jackson's departure.

Daniel is a critical component to why I like the show.
Great writers....great characters...great formats and production....great cost on the DVD season colection box sets!Don't leave Daniel off the show. Bring him back. Also, your DVD collections are great, but It would be better if they included more extras....interviews with many different actors...behind the scenes looks...and dammit, interview Peter Williams and do it soon and put it on the DVDs. I own season one and two box sets...the only thing I crave more of is the extras that bring the show even more closer to home....please realize that these extras are the one thing that you can offer that if you don't offer them, they may be lost forever...where else could we expect to see them?
It's obvious that the great show that SG1 has become is now coming to the end of a great run.
Still in the case of the show putting the final wraps on it's TV series, it is very important to not twist the show and the viewers into more regret than we already anticipate. I don't see any justification in your current tweaks of the show...was it to adjust costs? Was it to free up money? Or did you do it just to give us a real high caliber final season where you put all the pieces back together to go out with a bang?
The characters of Daniel and Apophis were very important to the show. I have come to appreciate the 4th member of the SG1 team...what's his name? He is a decent addition.
I have budgeted my next few years of pay to be able to afford and buy the entire collections of the SG1 seasons. Hopefully you understand that I intend to invest in the next step for SG1 as well. Is that a movie, more books, or something else? Whatever you decide, I will be there, but you owe it to the fans to stick true to what we like to see.
Thanks for listening.

I would like to know what the writers/producers were thinking in letting the character which brought balance to the rest of the cast just up and leave without fighting tooth and nail to pesuade him to stay. As great as the rest are, Michael Shanks' brilliant portrayal of Daniel Jackson brought a thoughtful, caring & ethical side to even up the fantastic action sequences. To lamely stand aside and let him go is quite stupid as original characters are usually extremely popular and ultimately missed when gone, as is the case here.
Bring him back and give him the storylines he should have had anyway! Ian <ianpjackson@hotmail.com>

Maybe it's time an Australian view was heard. I've been a huge fan of Stargate SG1 since it started. I own all the videos of each series as they've come out. Often a long time between releases in the shops - but I still keep looking for the next one.
The exposure in the media of Stargate is nil. Nothing ever seems to be published concerning the show.
So you can imagine the total shock when watching Daniel Jackson moving on. At first, I kept waiting for something amazing to happen as it usually does - to make it all okay. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!
How anyone responsible for this show, can honestly think one character is worth less than another is hard to believe. Each and every character are so important to the entire feel of the show. Just because Richard Dean Anderson is involved and has a bigger profile - does not mean he is the make or break person of the show. Every character is.
Whilst the new character Jonas who replaced Daniel, is interesting, and will add further perspectives to the show - it still needs Daniel.
Who said SG1 could only have 4 members - give us 5 and bring Daniel back. Besides he's cute!

When we learned that Michael Shanks wasn't going to be returning to the show full time as Daniel Jackson, we sit in ponderment. Why? He was a great asset to the show . In fact he was our favorite charather on the show. To slowly right him

I have read that Daniel Jackson will leave from the serie.
I think that you wouldn't do this because, what is the SG1 without Daniel? Nothing. The SG1 needs Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'c to be the authentic SG1, and I think that all of them are important. Daniel is the peaceful man and with him they had translating strange languages or finding old or strange things.

Dear Powers That BeI just wanted to say thanks for writing Abyss and producing such a wonderful piece of work. It was certainly worth the wait. I have to say that the acting between RDA and MS was superb and the chemistry electric as always.
Thanks for a wonderful series. However, when I watch Stargate in the UK now, I do it out of loyalty because it just doesn't hold the same magnetism without Shanks. Corin Nemic (hope I spelt that correctly)...seems a nice guy but he is no Daniel Jackson and I feel the team dynamic can never be the same without a certain member of SG1.
I appreciate that the show is wrapped and in the can, so I hope that if we get a Season 7 or a movie, Michael Shanks will play a major role.
Thanks again and looking forward to Atlantis or anything Stargate related (with RDA and Michael Shanks of course!).

Dear Mr Cohen,
I am writing to you to implore the return of Michael Shanks to his role of dr Jakson in Stargate SG1.Last season his character, especially his knowledge and expertise were ignored. You have forgotten about the stories that for me made stargate special.Episodes such as the torment of tantalus, the nox,and the fifth race. There was a real boldly go atmosphere to these eps. of which Daniel played a crucial part.Instead you have decided to go with cover ups and conspiracy. Why?Surely the whole point of stargate is the STARGATE sao start using it!!!Please bring Daniel back.

I'm sorry. I've tried. But I simply can not watch the new stargate. Without Daniel Jackson your show has lost its uniqueness. It has lost its human quality. I realise that that the characters have aged, but this should be a challenge for your writers. I have enjoyed your show and made sure that I have watched and actually bought many of the videos. But I'm afraid without Daniel, it has just become another Science Fic Show. The relationship between Daniel and Jack should have grown and should have been developed. Having two completely different characters really made Stargate. It was not just some macho GI show. With Daniel and Jack, it made it special. I hope that you listen to your fans, because without them, you don't have an audience

Saw Abyss last night here in the U.K. Now THAT was acting how the hell could you guys let that get away from you, are you mad? Could have done without the bits back at the S.G.C. Jonas really doesn't fit in with the rest of the group. As for Michael Shanks that man just gets better looking every time I see him. Please, Sci Fi ,if there is to be a season seven lets have the team back together they way it should be.Jack, Daniel,Sam and Teal'c send Jonas home.paulie <Personal>

I have just watched the season six episode Abyss and I have got to say this is the reason I have been unable to watch any other epsodes from this season.Abyss was wonderful just like the old Stargate SG1, the show I grew to love and just could not miss even one episode...I have even returned from a holiday a day or two early just to see it.Thank you Brad Wright for giving me this one last great episode to watch and enjoy forever.Jack and Daniel together this was what drew me to the show in the first place I am just sorry you had to spoil the episode with that creep Jonas.Thank you anyway ,to see M.S. back where he should be was great.M.S and R.D.A. just work so well together a true double act they bring out the best in each other. It was magic.Thankyou thankyou thankyou..........thankyou.jillian <jillianr-harvey@hotmail.c>

I do not believe that Daniel Jackson has been written out of SG1! I always moaned whenever Stargate came on but once you get into the show it is really very good. At the present time I am watching an episode when Daniel appears as a guest. A guest!! I think that he should become part of the team again as the show was far better then. Not that I have anything against the new guy or anything, but the team is just not quite complete without Daniel.Fiona

I can still remember the day that I first saw Stargate, the original film. It was showing at a theatre some thirty miles from my home, but it transported me to a world that was galaxies away. This was one of those few times in my life when I've truly experienced what many have referred to as "the magic of movies."
No sooner had I left the theatre, than I began imagining and writing ideas for sequals to the original story. I could imagine all sorts of plots and amazing new worlds, and, fortunately, I wasn't the only one. I really appreciate the writers, producers, and cast of SG-1 for bringing these worlds to life. It has been everything that I imagined and more. But the one thing I could never have imagined is seeing any of these new worlds or having any of these fantastic adventures without Daniel!
The character of Daniel Jackson is at the very core of SG-1. He is the heart of the story because it is Daniel whose love of the history and culture of this and other worlds relays the excitement and enthusiasm that is in the hearts of the show's most devoted fans. Jack may well be the "star" of the show, but it is Daniel who is the soul of SG-1 because he brings the wonder, the fascination, and the passion for exploring the boundaries of our universe. In him, more than any other character, we see and can share in the dream and the magic of unknown worlds.
Please, on behalf of all of the faithful fans of SG-1, before any more time is lost, I ask you to BRING DANIEL HOME! Sincerely,
Mal Weatherly

Attention MGM distributor:As with many shows out there, if your not, your not. Though the tiring feuds of Micheal Shanks and the all to witty Richard Dean Anderson of the show Stargate SG1 may have being daunty and repetitive, there was no doubt that Micheal Shanks was the "fit" player on the SG1 team.
From the moment Micheal ran into the pyramids screaming "Cha hai dea, Cha hai dea, lower your guns" until the aburpt cancellation of his role in the series, Micheal was there to illustrate the historical and cultural aspect of the SG1 mission. This mission was not just to find alien technology to battle the Goa'uld, but to explore the humantiarian aspects of our culture. As the season moves on, the writers of your show have lost the most critical aspect to what the series aws originally set out for. You have done what Voyager did to Star Trek; conjure up a cast to meet the unemployed, lonely, depressed audience's expectations. Stargate was never about soap opera, solving X-File mysteries, or parade the SG1 team as champions as you have twisted the show into this sixth season. Allow myself to ellaborate further:
For the last two years, the show has gotten all mushy and intertwined with relationships, family and un-realistic political turmoil. What ever happened to the original storyline of walking through the gate into an unknown, foreign land to explore our past? We got SG1 flying in Goa'uld ships in space, fighting troops by the hundreds, and screw ball storylines indicating no progress being accompished by the SGC.
Episodes 605 and 606 drew a deathly resemblence to the series X-File. Corin being Mulder, Amanda being Scully, and Teal'c being.... Teal'c. Not too mention the fact the show is becoming it's own Star Trek. Since did Dean Roland ever consider the SGC constructing there own ships, flying about in space, and keeping all of it secret?
And finally, this next season is faultering badly. The actors even go out of there way to prove that no matter what the hell happens, they will make it out alive. They show no interest in the places they go to, they express no concern for capture of destruction, and they appear to be bored with their travels.
When Daniel Jackson was around, the story was always interesting. If an object had significant historical value, he was in there enlightening everyone as to how it relates to our culture, what the significance is about this object, and what should be the humanitarian thing to do about it. Jackson is the part of us that begs recognition... it demands attention and provides sober second thought to any actions done.
I guess it's not the fact he is relieved from the show, it was the way it was done. It's sort of the like the series called Dallas. The first season of this show was all suppose to be all a dream. Claiming that Daniel Jackson is with the "Oma" seems hardly realistic. Sort having an episode where Teal'c dies and Hammond goes "Where's Teal'c?" Oh he got incinerated, got anymore Jaffa around the base to plunk into his place? Just like I would like to know how you write without arms, I would like to know how you could explore a planet without an archealogist who knows their own.
Bad ratings getting ya? I can understand that... but I have been with Stargate since 1994 when it was first released and I've always known that Micheal was a good choice for a character on your part. I'm sort of writing this on the fly so I haven't properly gone over the details of my position but I can gaurantee you that removing Picard from Star Trek or canceling Elroy from the Jetsons would not make their shows what the were remembered for. I can't undersatnd that if the rating was bad, add Corin with the SG1 and let there be some buffer zone before you rip shanks away (I mean, more than one episode). Shanks dug his claws into the show and once you pull him away, you'll be bleeding for ever on.
~ Alexander Higgins
P.S. This new guy is dork too by the way. If you're going to replace someone good, you generally replace them with some better. This guy reminds me of Wesley Crusher off the show... well you would know all about that... you are after all trying to imitate that show aren't.

I am taking time out from writing a seminar that I am presenting in Manchester England to write this letter. I was very shocked and disapointed when the character of Daniel Jackson was written out of the series.Surprisingly, since I am also a big fan of Farscape, but do not feel any emotion about it's demise. I very much enjoyed the Stargate story lines where Daniel had a prominant part as I felt I could empathise with his character quite strongly. Since the series has returned I must admit for me their is something missing. I hope you take note of people such as myself who are true Sci Fi fans
Please bring Daniel back. Remember this is Sci Fi, people can come back from the "dead".
All the best,

I like Jonus. I think people are being to hard on him. I loved Daniel Jackson and the way he was snuffed out was awful but i like the way Jonus is constantly eating, is alert to everything and the cute smile. I'll always remember Daniel but i'm a traitor- i like Jonus just as much.
This website rules though! I assumed something like this would be set-up but i am truely impressed by the whole set-up! Its amazing. The screensavers, wallpapers, the mature approach. This is a fantastic website.Traitor

Daniel Jackson was the main reason for the Stargates success he was the brains and the looks for SG-1. My friends were disgusted and shocked by the news that he would no longer be appearing in the show. Many of us have decieded to stop watching SG-1 from the last episode he appears in. I expect your ratings have gone down since letting him slip through your fingers. Daniel Jackson is my favourite character partly because of his innocence and the sympathy felt for his character, etc.I too noticed how Daniel Jackson's character was becoming less and less. You must bring him back if you hope to have more seasons and to continue it's popularity. I hope you will take my letter into consideration.Nicola <stormphonix@aol.com>

If u try to have a seventh season without Richard Dean Anderson or Michael Shanks u are just asking for the it to fall apart on u. U have to have at minumum three of the original 4 actors from season one. And if u lose RDA then heres one fan who wont watch.Tim

Too All Whom it May Concern:One night I came back home after a night of shopping with my wife down at the Salt Lake City mall. We had purchased several material things such as a game (Perfect Dark, created by Rareware published by Nintendo) and a small gift for my wifes sister whom was going to have her birthday in a week. Well, as my wife and I were talking I noticed the clock. It was almost time for Stargate!
Now back then, I used to watch Stargate as if it were a religion. NOTHING took immediate importance over my 1-hour date with the tube (Now a flat screen color LCD TV) so you can understand my excitement every time I turned the TV on to see thef amiliar opening scenes.
Anyway, I was a little early so I decided to get some skittles (A small snack I usually eat while watching Stargate.) and I came down on the couch and began waiting for the credits. My wife decided to join me (Shes a fan as well, although not quite as big of one as myeslf) and we began watching stargate...I saw daniel and his radiation poisoned hands...
The next hour was horrifying. Not horrifying in the sense that the episode was bad (because it was actually quite beautifully written) but I was mortified at what I saw. Daniel was actually dying...I had read rumors on the internet that he was leaving but never really thought of them (Using the logic rationale that they would never get rid of their *MOST LOVED* character)....until now. And this really hit me hard. During the last part of the episode, I actually had to get some tissue because I was crying. I had seriously developed such a close likeness to Daniel that seeing him leaving was....was unthinkable. It stunned me when he walked through the gate and probably was never coming back for a full time role. How could you betray me like this? I've been watching stargate ever since Chidlren of the Gods, and I've been with daniel for, what is it, five years? How could you just sever him like this?
I immediately went on the internet to find the reasons for this....My god, why didn't you just give into his demands?
Anyway, continuing with my story...I watched a few more episodes after that, about how Quinn got in because Jack didnt want a Russian on the team (Your behind the times by about ten years, sorry. And youg ive no justification for jacks hate of each and every Russian, its quite stupid.) and how he wasn't exposed to any radiation despite the glass being shattered...And even if there is an explatnation, why should I, your LONG TIME FAN, need to develop all these rationales in order to make the show logical?
But after about the second S6 episode, Sg1 began slipping from my mind...More and more, I noticed myself not remembering to see Stargate at all. Whenever I do, theres just this...missing piece. Seeing them all go through the stargate is a bit odd for me because it brings up too many memories of the once united team - Daniel Jackson, Jack ONeill (two L's), Captain now Major Samantha Carter, and the Jaffa Tealc. Nowdays I sit back and wonder "What ever happend to them?". Now its simply Colonel O'Neill with Captain Carter, Quinn, and Tealc. They sometimes are united, sometimes not....And its kind of sad (literally) to watch the episodes...Thats why nodays every time Stargate should be on, I pop in one of my tapes that has episodes recorded. Because they have one elment, one CRITICAL eliment that the otheres do not: Daniel Jackson. He added so much to Stargate, that it was not only worth it taking 1 hour out of my life every week, but I wanted to. Stargate was like a drug. Heck, I even have a poster of them. But now.....I've dropped Sci-fi channel completly because I just can't watch Stargate. Partially because I can no longer remember to but mostly because Daniel is gone.....He was the life blood of Stargate, and without it...Stargate just can't survive in my eyes.
As the popular saying goes: Season 6: No Shanks, no thanks.

Dear Mr. Cohen,
This letter is in regards to Stargate Sg-1. I am hoping
that the SCI-FI channel will pick up this outstanding series
for a seventh season. I have enjoyed this series since the
beginning. The fact that it moved from Showtime to SCI-FI, I
believe was to the series advantage, as it made itself avail-
able to a larger audience (and I could finally drop Showtime
from my cable bill!) I think Showtime's loss is the SCI-FI
channels gain.
I have heard that Richard Dean Anderson wishes to semi-
retire from the series. If that is a factor being considered
as to whether the series will go on to a seventh season, may I
suggest bringing back the character of Daniel Jackson? He
really is the soul of the series and if the ratings for
season 6 have not met expectations, might that be because
Michael Shanks is no longer a regular cast member of this
show? I am sure that he could be persueded to return if the
series returned to the original concepts and there were more'
character driven episodes than weekly explosive shoot outs!
I think that if you re-examine and compare the series,
season by season, you will see why the audience rating is
higher for Season one, than Season six. The format has
changed, since the original first season, and the loss of Dr.
Jackson has admittedly had an effect on the ratings.
I thank you for your time, and hope to hear good news
about the series in the near future:)
Sincerely,

To all of the people who can help determine the fate of SG1.
I have been a loyal fan of your series since the very begining, and I must say the news that you are going to let Michael Shanks go was extremely dissapointing. It may not seem like a big deal to you but to someone who really got into the show, losing Daniel Jackson would be huge. His character is the level headed one that helps to balance out O'Neal. Losing any of the original four would radically affect the show, but losing 2 will certainly kill it.
I hope that this letter finds you working these problems out. Please don't ruin the ONE SHOW I really look forward to. Keep Daniel Jackson where he belongs, with SG1. Thanks. t

It has taken us a long time to find a series that the whole family enjoys watching together, including our 11yo daughter
We have the DVDs shipped from the UK as soon as they are avail and have just watched the episode of Daniels depaarture, which left us totally shocked and upset. While the boys love the military side of SG1, the girls enjoyed the archaelogical and softer character of Daniel. I am afraid that once a "magic" combination is broken, it is never the same, remember Dr Crusher on Star Trek, she was a character hotly demanded back by the public. I feel that Daniels character will be the same. Please do not let this series turn into another military, shoot out series, go back to the begining and keep that magic recipe that got us all hooked on the series firmly entrenched in SG-1.

Please bring him back!

To all concerned with the future of SG-1:I came by this web site as part of a search to determine why Michael Shanks is no longer with the StarGate SG-1 series. My initial QUESTION has been answered, but it has raised another - namely, "How could such a mistake happen?"
Please reinstate Michael Shanks in SG-1. There is now gap in the entire character of the show that simply cannot be filled with another warm body.
Best of luck to the SG-1 team and Thank You for your consideration.

PS his recent guest appearance on SciFi is a good example of the depth of his character role.

Series 6 has begun in the U.K. I tried to watch it, but had to give up. It was like going to see 'Hamlet' and having the actor come on dressed as a white rabbit. It wouldn't matter how wonderful a white rabbit he was, how cute and cuddly he was, nor how sexy he looked in a tight T-shirt. It wouldn't even matter that he was a brilliant actor, he still wouldn't belong in 'Hamlet' just as Quinn doesn't belong in S.G. -1.
'Stargate S.G. -1' without Daniel is like 'Hamlet' without Hamlet.
I understand that the 'Nightstalkers' episode is airing tonight, but I won't be watching that either. What I've read about it so far makes me think of a song from 'Mary Poppins':
Super-Quinn'n'borrowed-plots-from'X-Files'are-atrocious.

The original 4 stars are what made the show fun to watch. It is not the same without Daniel Jackson. The new guy does not have the personality that flows with the other 3. To tell you the truth, I have only seen the three first seasons of the series - that's the bad part of living in a country as far away as Finland. But still, having learned from the net what's going to happen in the series later on, I'm already very disappointed and angry with Shanks leaving the series. Both the actor and the character have been my personal favourites since the very beginning, and I certainly don't even want to see a Stargate SG-1 without Daniel Jackson. It's not SG-1 at all that way. So, even though I won't be seeing any of the later seasons anytime soon, I would want to have the feeling that my favourite series will be as enjoyable in the future as it is now.

Dear Mr. Wright,This is just an e-mail to let you know that I have watched Stargate SG-1 since the very first episode aired on the Showtime Network. When I was visiting my grandmother in Arizona one year, I even made her get Showtime, just so I wouldn't miss Stargate. The reasons I have enjoyed the show so much are the characters and the specific actors who portray them. There can be no other Colonel Jack O'Neill other than Richard Dean Anderson, just as there can be no other Doctor Daniel Jackson than the one portrayed by Michael Shanks. I am sure that alot of fans have pointed out that Michael's character Daniel is the heart and the conscience of SG-1. They would be correct. I have watched Season Six with Corin Nemic and his character Jonas Quinn. I think he is doing an incredible job making his character come to life. However, he cannot replace Michael Shanks. I feel the show would be more enriched if Daniel were to return to SG-1, and the team expanded to include Jonas Quinn as well. As much as I appreciate the job that Corin Nemic is doing, SG-1 has lost some of it's appeal since Michael Shanks was written off the show. The characters do not interact as well as they did with Michael Shanks character right from the start. It's no longer as believable to me. I will still watch the show, of course, if only to see how the issues resolve themselves. I just hope that you'll bring back Doctor Jackson. The only time I really enjoy Stargate SG-1 now is to watch reruns once a week on Fox and for four hours on Monday nights on the Sci-Fi channel. Please consider this request. Thank you for your time.

Stargate SG1 is a truely unique series comprised of four main characters and great supporting cast. The writing, casting and direction of the show is excellent and has created a world of real substance. A world of sanity with realistic, sophisticated and humorous interation between all characters. The casting of the four main characters is something which still amazes me, as they just got it so, so right. Every writer knows just how important casting is. Without the right casting the whole thing can either fall in a heap or just not fly. Well, with the removal of Michael Shanks, I think someone wants to finish the series by forcing it to crash. In all honesty, I think after five or so years of full-on production there will be a desire to either transform the show or wrap it up. Unfortunately a positive transformation is not on the cards and the decision makers are looking for a quick fix before wrapping the show up at the end of season six or seven, or so it seems. Why don't they just design a really go wrapup and do it sooner rather than later? Why drag it on like they did with the X-Files, a strategy which, as it turned out, ruined the show for most viewers.
If MGM think that they can recreate a new audience on the SF Channell they are in for a shock. The momentum is created and this will not be done a second time. The current audience is worldwide, not just some dodgey operator in the United States which is one of many.
I think we have seen the last of SG1 as it was and will never see that again. Daniel is gone and O'Neil has cut his time back. Thanks for a truely great show, guys. Fantastic, more than just a TV show. Something one can truely take to heart and characters one can become attached to.

Hope we see Daniel reinstated in the show. All the actors in SG-1 work well together, giving viewers a good rapport. Michael's character gives the team compassion and respect for culture, whereas the others focus more on getting the job done. Dear Sir or Madam,There has never been a television show that I have loved as much as Stargate SG-1. I watch it on television at every opportunity, and I own the first two seasons on DVD.
The character of Daniel Jackson is the reason I started watching the show in the beginning, and now the absence of his character has alienated me from all recent episodes.
Please bring Michael Shanks back to Stargate SG-1. Without him, there's no chemistry between the remaining characters, and I have little interest in following their exploits. The character interaction and development, the thought-provoking storylines... all seemed to disappear in direct proportion to Daniel's diminishing significance.
Stargate SG-1 can be as magnificent as it once was, even better. Please reinstate Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson for the seventh season and all seasons to come.

My husband and I have been fans since the very beginning of the SG-1 series on SHOWTIME. All episodes have been taped and saved.(we also have season 1&2 on DVD) We were very disappointed that Daniel Jackson was let go. We are also upset that SG-1 is now being shown WITH comericals. It was a joy to watch itand tape it straight through.
Please, the powers that be, please return Jackson!! SG-1 is the ONLY program on TV that my husband and I WILL NOT miss!!sandi <laurence0922@msn.com>

By the way – it goes without saying that I would dearly love to see Michael Shanks permanently back in Stargate for season 7 – MGM really ought to compromise with him and agree to develop his role to a greater extent. I’m sure by now that Mr Shanks has realised just how loved and appreciated Daniel Jackson is. I can hardly imagine watching StarGate without him (this comes from someone who quit watching ‘Chicago Hope’ when Mandy Patinkin / Dr Geiger left; and other shows for similar character dismissals). With StarGate, I find that Daniel is really the only *entirely* believable character – Michael Shanks makes us believe that he actually IS Dr Daniel Jackson, with all Daniel’s qualifications and expertise. He may be the quiet, nerdy member of SG1 but he outshines the others – character-wise and hence actor-wise. MGM have done a great disservice to the show by letting MS leave – bring him back PLEASE.Verity / Poly <polynucleotide@hotmail.com>

I was utterly devastated to find no reference to Dr Daniel Jackson on the official StarGate SG1 website yesterday - the first time I have visited the site. I could find no explanation as to why he was not mentioned so I did a bit of net surfing & found to my horror that Michael Shanks has left StarGate and his fabulous character has been killed off! Yes, I am one of those dedicated SG1 viewers who have seen every episode aired and yes, Daniel Jackson is my favourite SG1 team member. I am truly upset that he will no longer be in the show. Fortunately for me, South Australia still has ~11 episodes to screen before the fateful death of Daniel - and I will savour every hour of those episodes now, knowing what is to come.
Daniel is a truly genuine character and I believe he is a great role model for the younger viewers. He is an academic, scholarly type and he is not only interested in his work but he loves his chosen career. (I also think that 1) intelligence is sexy and 2) MS is gorgeous - but this is totally beside the point!) Being a scientist myself, I understand the character Dr Jackson's passion for his work.
But I must say, that I am in full support of Michael Shanks. I actually have noticed that Daniel's knowledge hasn't been utilised accordingly over series 4-5. On occasion I have watched episodes and wondered why they even bothered writing him into the script when the entire theme is military "fight the Goa'uld" - sometimes Daniel looks right out of place in those type of scenarios. The show has this wonderful character - this knowledgable, intelligent, thoughtful, insightful, compassionate, ethical human being with expertise in archaeology and ancient egyptian language - he's the reason the stargate program is in existence - and the writers haven't been writing suitably for him. It was obvious to me - and surely must have been to others as well.
I agree with what others have said about how the show has evolved from an interesting science fiction-historical-mythical theme to a majority science-fiction-military theme - and there is plenty of ‘action’ on TV already. When I first saw the original SG movie I thought it had LOTS of potential for other plots - so many planets to discover and explore! The series was unequivocally excellent at first - But planets are only discovered and explored in the hope of acquiring new technology and weapons now. This is not science - scientists discover and explore just for the sake of finding things out – to satisfy their inquisitive nature.
Well, TV shows can't go on forever - they run out of storylines eventually and without Daniel Jackson I feel certain that SG will come to an end sooner rather than later - who's going to decipher the ancient hieroglyphs now, who's going to communicate with ancient-egyptian-dialect-speaking races now? There's a whole element of StarGate that will die with Daniel - the element that made the show unique. Who will be the diplomatic one? - the person who knows how to speak respectfully to aliens - because if I was an alien on another planet I’d be appalled by O'Neill - he has no interplanetary diplomacy skills or tactfulness at all! I love RDA & Jack but hey, in the real world Jack would need lessons on how to be a good ambassador for Earth! Daniel was the real humanitarian of the team. Not to mention - who is going to bounce off O'Neill's comments to provide the humorous aspect? An SG movie without Daniel Jackson? - it won't work.
So, thanks very much to the SG executive people for slowly killing off my favourite character by reducing his importance/usefulness so much that his 'creator', Mr Shanks, decided to leave. (I say creator because it is the actor who brings the character to life - not the writer.) They have a name for this: Tall poppy syndrome.
To Michael, I say this: I hope you find yourself another wonderful character to play. You are a fantastic actor and your exquisite portrayal of Daniel Jackson will always be remembered and loved by the StarGate fans.

To Whom it may concern
I am a big fan of the show. I am not much of a scifi
person but this show is by far my favorite show ever.
And coming from me that is a lot. i consider myself a very critical person when it comes to movies and shows.
And you guys do a great job.
But why change a good thing . I understand that change is neccesary for the show to continue. And I like how he left
I just wish you whould bring him back a little more often .
Actualy he is my least favorite of the orginal cast.
Which should tell you a lot that I am takeing the time to write this letter, but most important, what ever you do, please keep this show on the air. It seems that every show that I enjoy they take off the air.I whould also like to purchase every episode on dvd. If you chould send me a catolog to 8108 Denison Ave Cleveland OH 44102 unit up
I would be grateful .

Dear sir/madam, I have only recently started watching stargate SG-1, at the beginning of this year, and have become an avid fan, I am collecting all series on video and was thrilled to learn that series 6 was to screen on sky one in uk, after the cliff hanger of an ending in series 5 with Daniel Jackson leaving I was naturally devastated as he makes up the team on SG-1, this letter is basically to ask you to please, please, please, please reinstate Michael Shanks as Dr Jackson as the show, brillient as series 6 is, is not the same without him.
After reading all his interviews it is obvious he wants to come back to play Daniel and has a lot more to offer.
Please can you reinstate Michael Shanks as Dr Daniel Jackson
for the pending series 7 of Stargate SG-1 and you shall make
the year of many, many, many SG-1 fans.
Yours thankfully

Please have Dr. Daniel Jackson come back. The seires is not the same without him and lacks Daniel's charisma that the show needs. It's a great progrma, but daniel's character adds a lot of depth to the show with his personality.Edward Barrios <voyager872@ameritech.net>

Quite simply SG-1 is not the same with out DJ - Jonas Quinn memorising all of daniel's work/being a super fast learner just makes me think of cheesy sci-fi replacement, (is there any difference between JQ + DJ apart from the stupid Q's every now and then) don't get me wrong I am an avid SG viewer however this is not what I have grown to expect. DJ was by far one of the best characters in the series, bring him back! DJ should of been given more chance to expand ont he character, I was waiting for some good DJ storylines and he was axed/quit (good as axed) wtf...!
Bring Back DJ Sci-fi.

To whom it amy concern,
me and all my friends love Stargate SG1. Since the first time i saw it, i knew it would be big. now don't get me wrong, it's still brilliant, and Jonas Quinn is a great character (not to mention HOT!) but you can't have a great believable intellectual show like Stargate without the intellect! Daniel Jackson balanced out the characters, and the shows futile attempt to make sam carter look more intelligent (no offence to anyone!) and have jonas memorise all of Daniel's work, is just boring. if you want to keep your loyal fans at least TRY to bring michael back, and if not come up with some great storylines to make up for it (though i doubt you could make up for the loss! sorry had to put that in!)
we'll keep watching...just in case!

Stargate was my favourite movie of all time and Stargate SG1 was an opportunity to continue the enjoyment indefinitely. Daniel is my favourite character and I am very sad to discover that he has been dropped from series which I haven't had a chance to see yet, being a terrestrial TV viewer in the UK, where we're a bit behind the times! The Daniel character is a good foil for the military characters and his affectionate bickering with Jack is one of the things that have helped to make the TV series so enjoyable. I don't see how things can ever be as good without him. I find it hard to see the justification for gradually pushing him into the background - he is a character with so much more potential and far more interesting than the military conspiracy stuff. I don't blame Michael Shanks for deciding he'd had enough, but his departure leaves a big hole which will spoil my enjoyment of future episodes. The thing that really upsets me is that the official SG1 website has quietly dropped all mention of Michael - as if he never existed. This is so disrespectful to both him and the fans. Surely his contribution to the earlier series is worth more than that? I guess I'll just have to console myself with DVDs of the earlier series, but I do hope there is a change of heart.Hilary Hoad <hilary.m.hoad@defra.gsi.gov.uk>

The loss of Daniel Jackson the character to the SG-1 team is devastating to the series. This character was a crucial part to the series and kept the SG-1 team functioning as a group. The character of Jonas Quinn does not fit into the group. He may have fit into another character’s role, but not as Daniel’s replacement. The SG-1 fans are smarter that the producers and writers think. You can tell how the producers and writers are forcing this unwanted character onto the fans as a cheap replacement to Daniel. I say I don’t want it! The Jonas Quinn character should be kept as a Naquadriah scientist. Keep him back at the base lab as a sub-character. First of all, he is not an Archeologist as was Daniel, so how can Quinn after two episodes read Goa’uald wall glyphs? It took Daniel years to understand the language, and he still had trouble understanding this complex language. By eliminating Daniel’s character, they have doomed the show. It would have been better to not have replaced this character, than to force-feed me a cheap replacement. Daniel’s character can be easily re-established in Season 7, and I hope they do so before the end of the upcoming season, or they stand the risk of loosing a large fan base, and will have destroyed the series. To the producers and writers of Stargate, “Re-instate Daniel Jackson to the SG-1 team!” before you loose all your fans. Give us what we want, and we will stay dedicated forever to this series.

Dear Sirs,My husband and I have been watching "Stargate" since it began, I cannot say we have had as much fun watching the episodes that follow the "Conspiracy" theory, it was so much more fun when the team went into "the unknown"; and in saying that, I think the part of Daniel Jackson is an intregal part of the show. We watched the "Meridan" episode just last night and my husband's reaction was, "well, I guess we won't be watching as much." While I appreciate Michael Shanks walked away from the show, I think his reasons are legitimate and I agree with his comments that one of the great parts of the show was the chemistry between him and "Jack". Daniel Jackson brought balance to the show that could, if appearances indicate, fall into a "military" mode, and if so, could quite likely lose a number of the female fans, and not because we find Michael Shanks a sexy character, but simply because the shows featuring him were more "human", more fun and with what is going on in the world, we really don't need to watch a show that embroils itself and emphasises the "end of the world", we preferred it in the "fantasy" area and with a slight hint that maybe the future is not so dark.
The relationship between "Jack" and "Daniel" also created some humour into the show and where will that humour come from now?
No, big mistake in letting Michael Shanks slip away so easily . . . And, if there is a movie, he better be there because he IS a very important member of the STG team - to the fans, anyway.
yours faithfully,
Freda Lowe
P.S. A note to Michael Shanks,
You should have screamed louder honey, don't worry about not having a big part in every show - your fans still love Daniel Jackson and I'm sure enough of us would have eventually have complained about the really BORING military conspiracy shows anyways

Dear Michael,
I have sent dozens of letters to the producers, including Mr. Anderson, so I really hope you get this, because I haven’t received any responses from anyone and I’ve spent a lot on airmail. Goddamned it I’m only 17, I’m not loaded! Already I’m a sci-fi fanatic What I fail to see is in this conflict of opinions, you wanting more roles and the producers wanting more new stuff (mad is an understatement) is that none of you wish to reach a compromise. For instance you thought you’re character was becoming less important? I fail to see how your character was less important than Jack, Sam or Teal’c, you and Jack made the foundation of the series. I mean, too many jarheads isn’t that good for a series and I think there were many story lines for Daniel, Stargate isn’t military –not really- it’s sci-fi/military/something-else-I-don’t-know-what but you’re the innocent side of humanity in the series, I think that’s why you’re so important to the show, because you’re the sweet nice guy… or the ‘people-person’, unlike the others who are shooting-people-persons…
I fail to see how you’re allowing a series you’ve worked so hard to build into a success is the same one you’re giving up on. I judge no one, but I see that neither side (producers and you) realizes that you’re in this together, you’re all acting like you have no choice when clearly you do. Yes there are other projects… other sets and cast, but this one’s important to many people, surely you’d like to finish what you’ve started? 5 years is a long time, there’s only one season left apparently so you have time to be reinstated. Yeay! I assume you know that Mr. Anderson won’t be there that much in season 7, I just wish you understood how important you are to the fans because now everything has changed, the Brits are becoming less tolerant on the new series without you, they all say it’s like they’ve turned Stargate into another version of sci-fi, and it’s not original anymore. I have to say, I agree with them. Without you, they needn’t bother with season 7… it’ll be over before it begins. Jack and Daniel were too stronger characters…
What I’m trying to say, is please come back to the show full-time. I’m sure the producers and stuff would love to have you back, none of this is a battle we just want you to be back as Daniel, the series isn’t the same without you and you must know it. Anyways… hope you’re well and enjoying life, they say it’s for living… I just hope you know there’s only one more season of Stargate left, (that I’ve heard of…) and apparently it’s Bonnie Hammer of Sci-Fi who the producers are drawing the doe off of Ahh, well, doesn’t that show how much money they must have lost on Season 6, just shows what an archaeologist can do
Thanks for reading my letter, I hope you consider looking on these sites, someone told me you were names ‘Young Lord of the Internet’? (good on ya, it’s a wonderful place) check out these sites …

www.thesungate.com - My site please take a look if you can

PS: I really loved your role as Dr Daniel Jackson. He was just different from the rest, special and I hope you come back to us for season 7 with the team reunited. Fans really miss you and we don’t want Stargate to turn all military, that’s not what it’s about. I think they’ve gone off track, someone’s been tampering with their heads… glad they didn’t mess with yours… please respond if you have time, I’d really appreciate it
Yours faithfully,
Amy Hadrill. 17, UK
-Sci-Fi fanatic
P.P.S: I know us fans ask a lot, you and Mr. Anderson each have a child to care for and I do understand how important time is to people, especially when it’s between family. There is just one more season and after that, we won’t bother you for another… well, I won’t anyway… and I’ll start a revolt against the evil fans, they’re really blood sucking vampires… but they’re NICE blood sucking vampires and they love Stargate and all you’ve worked so hard to build.
I heard that Mr. Judge has three children! He’s never expressed any wishes to leave. After all, the time you spend with your children becomes quality time if you’re away working a lot. I just hope the team reunites because it’s devastating the Sci-Fi world, particularly the Stargate Sci-Fi world. So, if you are up to it, we only ask you consider what going back would ensue, Stargate would be back on track and everyone would be happy again. If you do decide to return to Stargate, please drag Mr. Anderson back on the set, if he resists tell him ‘resistance is futile’ or something. We need SG-1, the real SG-1, not replacements, just the good old SG-1 we all know and love.
Thanks again for reading my letter.

I was so shocked to see Daniel Jackson among the missing when the new season of SG-1 started on SciFi. Daniel is a very integral part of SG-1, both in the original movie and in the series. Jonas is OK but I really do miss Daniel. Please bring him back. The SG-1 team with Daniel was a TEAM. They were a cohesive unit and worked well together. There was a sense of completeness with their unit. Without Daniel it looks like they're just going through the motions. Please bring Daniel home to SG-1. Thanks.

To be brief, without the contribution made by Michael Shanks Stargate sg-1 is a mediocre program. The story elements and character interactions that have been built over the years are the reason I continued to watch. If you do not return Michael Shanks to the program as the character Daniel Jackson I WILL NO LONGER WATCH STARGATE. If you are inclined to hold this as a hollow or inconsequential threat I whould like to remind you of what happened when David Duchovney left The X-files. With the huge and dedicated fanbase that The X-files enjoyed it was not long before cheated fans left the show. You have the opportunity to save an amazing show from cancellation. I implore you to act before it is to late. A talent like Michael Shanks WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR LONG. Yours in anticipation,

Dear Mr Brad Wright,
I encourage you to listen to the fans, we are the ones who have made your success by watching the series, not the 'new' sci-fi watchers. I find you insulting and rude and you were not entitled to such a wonderful man like Mr Shanks, he is not the one to hold grudges but this has sadenned him and you should be ashamed of being so cruel to him.
I only hope your other shows don't suffer the same fate because I believe ratings will drop without the Jack/Daniel relationship and kind nature given by Dr Jackson/Michael. You have not told us if you have spoken to Mr Shanks, in fact, all you have done is treat us like nothing important, you don't deserve such a wonderful series because you're being very arrogant in not listening to us.
Basically? We want Season 7 WITH Daniel Jackson/Michael Shanks AND Jack O'Neill/Richard D Anderson. Otherwise, you're just making us more determined and that -by the look of things- will be bad for your credit. Everyone I tell about the producers says you sound very cold and inhuman, just because you have money and fams doesn't mean you are any greater or more important than us... we want Michael to come back and we want Mr Anderson to keep up Jack's role. Please don't let us down, there must be some compassion in you?

I was very excited when I heard that Stargate was comming to the sci-fi channel. I was looking forward to seeing first
run episodes of the series, then I saw it. What was a big part of the heart of the show was gone. How can there be a Stargate without a Daniel Jackson? It doesn't quite work.
I have been a fan since the movie came out, until now.
I have watched several episodes of season six, and have been disapointed with them. This show was why I got cable put in. Thank God the show is being released on DVD by season. I can watch the seasons that work.
Please bring Michael Shanks back to the show. You lost some of the magic that made the show so special.
Thank You.Angel Lett <alett@woh.rr.com>

Sirs,
I am upset at the direction and position that Sci Fi Network has taken on two of my dearly loved, and watched, shows;Farscape and Stargate SG-1. After the Sci Fi network took over Stargate SG-1 I called my cable provider to cancel my subscription to Showtime. The operator requested a reason for my cancelation of my service (which I paid 24.95/month extra for) and was quite surprised when I stated that my only reason for subscribing to Showtime was to watch SG-1 and that since it was gone, so was I. While I was glad that SG-1 was picked up by the Sci Fi Network I am now again disheartened by the exodus of the charicter played by Michael Shanks, Daniel Jackson. Mr. Shanks charicter it a vital and well loved role and the episodes without him simply ring empty. His charicter injected humanity, compassion, and caused the viewer to think about some everyday subjects in a differnt way. And if you think about it isn't that the goal of every Sci Fi writer? To make his charicter so believable that it causes the viewer or reader to THINK. It would appear that Sci Fi is not paying close attention to it's fan base, and it's implied genre's goal and instead is focused on how much money can be generated by a show instead of the quality of it's shows.
Now, sadly, with Farscape leaving I am forced to choose if I wish to continue to pay for a network that so blatently ignores it's fans, or continue to support it with my hard earned cash. My freinds and I used to gather together and watch en masse these two shows with great enthusiasm, and now we are faced with being stuck with low quality shows such as Lexx (a nickel for anyone who can find a storyline) and Crossing Over (Oprah for New age idiots) Please review your decisions for these changes and pay attention to your fans, I know I am not the only one. The concept of an all Science Fiction channel is something that I hope will remain, but if you do not heed your fans I am afraid your services will no longer be viable. Thank you,

I would like to start out by saying that my boyfriend and I love the show and look forward to watching weekly. I must say though, that the news that Micheal Shanks may no longer be joining the cast for the seventh season is very upsetting. We feel that losing the character of Daniel Jackson would alter the show too greatly. We appreciate your deepest consideration before making a decision to take him out of the show. We like his character and feel the show should continue with as much of the original cast as possible for as long as possible. Thank you.Karalynn & Tim <lilMsStarr21@yahoo.com>

...now, the show is not a show without the excitement that David Shanks brought to the show. He actually believe he is an Anthropologist. It look so natrual.Mary <mary@themabrys.com>

Gentlemen--I started watching "Stargate--SG-1" because I had seen the movie and wanted to see how well it translated to television. In the movie, the part of Dr. Daniel Jackson was a "nerdy" part, put in as a foil to the Colonel, head of what would become SG-1. When I saw the television pilot, I was immediately struck by the resemblance between Michael Shanks and James Spader, Dr. Daniel Jackson in the movie. However, the character had become a central figure in the show, the intellectual and "historical" figure; only Amanda Tapping, as the brilliant research scientist, could come close to Dr. Jackson.
As the show went on and the team developed, it became a synthesis, a melding of the talents and abilities of all the characters. Dr. Jackson became less "pacificist" and more willing to carry weapons--I guess his arrival on too many hostile worlds led to this. But he was the brake on the team's impulsiveness, the one who cautioned the team to go slow, the one who was able to establish contact or figure out why a culture or individual was doing what it was doing.
I feel that the loss of Dr. Daniel Jackson is tantamount to breaking up SG-1. In fact, since "Stargate" has moved to cable, I haven't watched it at all. I really can't see the replacement of Dr. Jackson by anyone else. I think replacing him was tried during the time Michael Shanks was on the show, but no one apparently clicked with the audience. I have read the books that have been written about SG-1, and they go a little bit more into the dynamic among the team members--but I got some of it in the television show also. This dynamic, in the real world, would be so valuable to the SGC that it wouldn't dare break it up or replace a member; I think that, in this case, the same analogy applies to the show.
Please bring Dr. Jackson back. He said that he was leaving to follow "another path." It should be relatively easy for him to find that the path was false, or leads back to SG-1, or whatever the writers can think up. I can't imagine the show without Michael Shanks; I won't watch it again if he doesn't come back.

I have watched the show religiously from the beggining and am a commited fan.
I feel that michael shanks and the character should be re-enstated in to a prominant role in the programme because i feel that he is the heart of the show . The character of danial jackson is essential to the cast his character has a sort of subtle sexy aura about him and his relationship with the other members of the team make the show a great watch, i cant quite explain what it is about the character i like the best but its there. If Daniel is taken off of the series your going to suffer major loss because he is the one character that seems to bind the Sg-1 group together. If someone doesn't know something about a culture or a language they turn to Daniel. He has also been in every show even in the movie. You can't say that about all the characers. That is why you need to keep him on the show.Fawn Crow <wyckedzbrat@aol.com>

In Canada we are still airing Season 5 and I have had to resort to downloading episodes to see the departure of Daniel Jackson and the season 6 episodes with Jonas Quinn. I must say that if there is a season 7 and/or a stargate II movie, Daniel Jackson must be brought back. The 5th season episode Asention showed that it was possible to return to human form. So that is only one possible method, I am sure the writers could be very creative in bringing him back. Of course this does not mean you must eliminate Normin Cormik as Jonas Quinn. However the future of Stargate depends on bringing back one of the founding characters, Daniel Jackson. Without him, a season 7 and/or movie will not succeed.A note to MGM, get your act together!

Dear Sirs:Daniel Jackson is the best character on Stargate SG-1. I think that Michal Shanks is a handsome and talented actor. If he were to leave the show, it would create a void that could never be closed. If he would to leave, I for one will not watch the show from then on.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to inform you of how I feel about the loss of Michael Shanks' portrayal of DR Jackson on Stargate. The Dr. Jackson character is the type of role model that I want my children see on TV. Almost everyone else in the show reacts to situations whereas his role is to consider the implications and consequences before acting. His character is compassionate, intelligent, educated, concerned about consequences, and able to act independently while still being involved in exciting adventures. What more could we want as a role model for children. Stargate-SG1 is becoming a shoot-em-up as portrayed in the new ads where O'Neil say "its a military thing". In view of the present situations in our world, having a show that has a character deal with situations w/o violence and to negotiate is an important message to give anyone. The Dr. Jackson character on the show always tries to do this. I am outside of the usual demographics and do use the products that advertised the show but will consider other products because of the turn of events with show and the character's removal. On a more personal level, I am very unhappy with the development of the series over the last two years because of the deterioration of the team, mediocre scripts, and the increasing disappearance of Daniel Jackson, and will stop watching when his character is not on the show. I am more than willing to tune in again, should these concerns be addressed.
Sincerely,

I was shocked to find Micheal Shanks was leaving Stargate. The character he has developed over the last 5 series has become central to the team. He was the one whos curiosity and humanity lead the team into many intense and interesting situations. He was the one who always looked outside the obvious gung ho solutions to problems and with his special way of looking at situations even spotted bad situations before the rest of the team. One of the things I enjoyed best about the series was the banter between Jack and Daniel and I do not feel the series will hold the same interest for me without Daniel.
I also helps that Micheal is very good looking.
I hope that their will be a change of heart and bring Micheal back as I believe their is much more scope and depth to this character left to be discovered.

I'm probably just another insignificant fan, but me and many many other people want Daniel back in Stargate. He was a magnificent actor. He was like a pioneer of Stargate.
To see him go makes Stargate a whole lot different. New faces in the show make it very hard to adapt. The trust that SG1 have with each other took such a long time to build up to this quality. The show is now very different, maybe even poorer. Please bring him back.

I would like to point out the only reason i go interested in Stargate was because of
Daniel. The first ever episode I saw was 'Thor's Hammer' I took one look at Daniel
and i thought
"He is so HOTT" and i was hooked (the hair did it for me!!!!!) Then when he got his
hair cut i stopped Watching it and turned over the T.V. that lasted all of 5 mins then i
started having withdrawl symptoms and has to turn it back on again.
When Daniel died i cried for hours the stopped and watched it again and then cried
again for hours anyway i was so upset and vowed never to watch it again however i
did and i think we should give the new guy a chance and understand micheal was not sacked it was his choice to leave ( i would have preffered they written him out and not killed him off but...) jonhas is not trying to replace daniel but we should make a place in our hearts for his as we have the rest of the team. i am i bit narked it only took two eps to replace him and it took three to get him on the team in the frist place but what can you do???Gemma Simpson <gemmie_jam@hotmail.com>

I was so happy watching the shows from the first season last night! I never realized it, but I had never seen episodes 3 & 4! Yeah! What a contrast to season 6. You can really see the Sci-Fi channel's influence on the writing of the show now. Stargate is now 'Sci-Fied'. No offense, but this channel makes sci-fi shows way too 'trekki' for my taste. Some of the shows have been good this season, but not like they used to be. Maybe it was good that Michael Shanks got out when he did. It could have been bad for his career. The show is headed down hill. I don't know if it is because of his absence, or the presence of the Sci-fi channel, but something is off. They need to dump the show and start doing WELL WRITTEN movies like Star Trek TNG did. (But, there haven't been enough of those movies to quench the fan's thirst.) It is essential that Michael is in these movies. MGM better do SOMETHING before it's too late. Tell SCI-FI they can't have any more say in the writing of the show for now and start with the movies. The special effects will be awesome, I know. The writing is the KEY. This is science fiction, anything can happen! People can even come back from the dead! They do it in soap operas all the time.Paloma Merritt <paloma@eaze.net>

I just had to say that having watched the first two episodes of Stargate, Children Of The Gods I was hooked!By the end of the second hour I was in love with the character of Daniel Jackson.By the end of the second hour of the opening episodes of season six I was sick to death of Jonas.Bored stiff by Jack,Sam and Teal'c and waiting for the end. When will T.P.T.B. understand that there is no substitute for class.Michael Shanks is a GREAT actor Corin whatshisface is NOT.The interaction between Jack and Daniel in C.O.T.G's IS wonderful there is nothing between Jack and Jonas.NOTHING.It's not even the same show anymore they have even removed the Egyptian head from the opening shots as if to say look no mythology here move along. This is a military show now no time for any of that historical crap look at our BIG guns.Arn't they cool!!!Well no, I dont think so and I am not alone. How can they get it so wrong so often?Just a knack I guess.Oh well off to watch some other show now, Six Feet Under is pretty good I hear.

I have only now found out about the Daniel Jackson being lost from the show. To me that character was by far my favorite and his role on the team gave the show depth and balance. I think I will have to stop buying the episodes on DVD (I have no TV) until I see whether the show even has a credible future without Daniel.- Claus Michelsen

As a student in Archeology (I am currently finishing my Ph-D) I can tell you that Mr Michael Shanks was doing a very good job in his way of portraying doctor Daniel Jackson. I would like to add that I was fan of the movie before being fan of the serie, and that story without Daniel Jackson, who is one of the two main characters of the movie, is not making any sense at all. If you want to keep it this way, without Daniel Jackson, that's fine. You can make a Science fiction serie like this ... but dont call it Stargate. because Stargate isn't Stargate without our favorite archaeologist.

I'd just like to say that I LOVE Stargate SG1!, being in England without Sky and all that, I havent seen the departure of Daniel Jackson. I don't understand why MGM or whoever made the decition, they all just fitted together! O'Niell with his dumb military thinking and humour, Carter with her intelligence and militarry 'stuff', Teal'c with his cool eyebrow arching and logical thinking and Jackson who seemed to bring them all together, the one who protested any un-moral descition, intelligence, and romance with his wife Shar're...I loved all the arguments that went on between O'Niel and Jackson, thats what made the humour, thats what makes/made it worth watching. I can't imagine stargate without him! And when that episode comes I will need a BIG tisue box, I cant believe you let him go! No offence to the new 'stand in' for him, the pic I saw of him looks; hes an OAF(!) according to my friends who have seen the series without him. I really hope that he comes back and I will be waiting for the day!

Daniel is Stargate beginning with the origional movie. His loss makes SG1 just another run of the mill science fiction series instead of the leader it was for the first few seasons. The new shows this season have lost the original appeal the series had origionally. Please bring the zest back to the series with all the original characters.Dave LeCount <dclecount@earthlink.net>

Our family have watched Stargate SG1 since day one ... we even watch the repeats with enthusiasm!!!!!!!!!! When Daniel Jackson left we were sure it was just a plot line and waited eagerly to see how he would be reunited with his team. However as the weeks have passed I have become concerned that he wasn't coming back ... hence my trying to find some information from the Net. I can't say how disappointed I am to learn that he maybe gone forever. This programme works so well because of the balance of characters ... personalities/morals ethics ... etc. While we just adore all the characters so richly played by the cast ... if Daniel Jackson is "lost forever" so is the chemistry that makes Stargate SG 1 so enjoyable. One less family in Australia will be tuning in!!!!!!!!!Margo Gikas <gikas@bigpond.net.au>

I watch stargate in Australia, so Daniel Jackson just died recently and it really doesnt bother me that much. Other people on the msg board complain that he had "humanitarian" solutions to situations. FFS; i dont watch stargate to see non violent solutions to problems. I watch it see dudes with p90's. thats another point, daniel jackson never carried a p90 like everyone else, just a poxy pistol. maybe if he was carrying a p90 - he wouldnt have died.Daniel Sanders <fishgobot@hotmail.com>

Yes I am giving s6 a chance on the big screen. TPTB you cant say I didnt try .
MY verdict? - you are trying SO HARD to make me like Jonas and NOT succeeding.
Big grin; so excited coz its all new; we aliens should stick together; banana eating; more grins; I’m no good at anything ( poor me) and I so want to be good at something so you’ll accept me; dont wait for me while I go and save the day by not breathing for AGES ; look how hard I try for you......( Daniel is gone, you might as well forget him, I’m handsome too.)
Oh I forgot...
Hammond to Jack:- Are you all OK? SG1 are all fine sir ( with the emphasis on SG1 so we know that JONAS IS SG1... just in case we thought he was visiting ).
NB Anybody notice JONAS standing sideways trying to ’look ’ the part?
BUT its not all about Jonas. I actually lost the plot in all the corridors and endless dialogue. Sorry anybody who likes Sam’s Dad but his voice sent me to sleep in s5 and this ep was no exception.
I managed to miss the space ship falling in the sea and I’m sure that Corin Nemec swam valiantly for minutes on end but it didnt grab me. In fact none of it did. Sam did her best, Teal’c wasnt bad ( he had more to do), Jack was marginally more alive than last week but the whole thing for me was just BORING.
Would it have been COOL with Daniel? I dont think it would have grabbed me even with Daniel although he has been known to lift pretty dire stuff up a notch or two.
Even hubby, who accepts just about anything as plausible, groaned when we got to ’titanic’ flooding.
Last moan.... I really really wish the writers wouldnt try to think up endless ’Jonas is being accepted’ speeches.
It reminds me of the obligatory ’moral’ that you used to get with American TV shows, especialy children’s ones where they start to speak ... real.... slow .... just in case we try to miss the moral . ( If only we could).
( My brother and I were cynical from birth I think. Early memory, groaning at ’Andy Pandy’ who was such a wuss).
Will I keep watching ? I am trying ,but I can honestly say I dont feel
