The purpose of the guest book is for the sole purpose of expressing our concerns to TPTB. These concerns have been there for two years now. Michael Shanks’ has been vocal about his concerns and the reasons why he left for two years now. He left because he was unhappy. Fans are leaving because they are unhappy.
There was a discussion board created for debate, if you are interested. However, I think people are quite capable of making their own decisions about this whole situation. I don’t think name-calling is necessary.

He’s got a really good role in the movie "All Around The Town" showing on PAX on--I believe--May 18. If we were only interested in seeing Michael act, then we wouldn’t be so concerned with getting him back on Stargate. He’s an excellent actor and I’m sure we’re going to be seeing lots more of him as years go by.
What we want is Daniel back on Stargate so we can have our TEAM back. And we want scripts that go back to the original premise of the show. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

1) The people writing in are genuine fans who want SG1 to succeed as a show for years to come.
2) With a few exceptions the people writing in are polite and give their viewpoint in a well balanced honest way.
3) The original exploration storyline founded in the movie and seasons 1-3 was a major factor in watching the show.
4) The character of Daniel Jackson from the move was a major factor in watching the show to begin with but the interaction between all 4 characters and Daniel and Jack in particular have kept them watching.
5)They started watching Stargate for all sorts of reasons but got hooked on it during seasons 1-3 because of the very high quality of the stories, characters, acting and sets.
7) They see MS as an exceptional actor, who has become not just the supporting actor for RDA but a star in his own right.
8) They see his concerns for the direction of the show as their concerns.
9) They can understand why he felt he had to leave, but feel that the show has lost so much of its original appeal that it will be very difficult for them to watch it without him.
10) They feel that TPTB misjudged how popular MS was and have treated him very badly.
11) They feel that 1 episode for MS isnt enough ,and that TPTB can fix the situation to everybody’s satisfaction if they want to.
12)They want NEWS of more episodes NOW so that they can stop campaigning and get on with their lives as well.
13) They have lost faith in TPTB and are very very angry by the dismissive way that some of them have responded to fans concerns.
14) They are not willing to give up and the letters wont stop coming.
I feel all of the above and a lot more.
Our family started watching because we loved the movie, loved the exploration and mythology, liked RDA ( McGyver) and hoped the new Daniel would be as good as James Spader. What we got from MS and RDA in particular but the whole team as well, was far above our expectations - a quality show about 4 deep characters that we have grown to love but we loved DANIEL in particular. I have watched season 1 again recently. Jack is an intelligent military officer with special ops skills, an interest in astronomy and an emotionally damaged past that he is trying to deal with. Daniel is a lateral thinker, highly intelligent, excited by everything he does, impetuous, caring, willing to put his life on the line for his friends. He has lost his family 3 times over - parents, grandfather, and Sha’re to Aphophys , but doesnt lose heart and is forever optimistic. Sam is military, in control but caring, and a brilliant scientific mind. Jack and Sam care for one another but as friends working together daily - ’Its been an honour serving with you , Carter’ Teal’c is just starting to adjust to life on an alien planet. He sees situations clearly and cuts through to the bare bones of any problem. The team works together, they care for one another and show their emotional love to one another freely in words and physical contact. ( ’Space monkey’; ’Well done Daniel’)
Contrast with season 4 - Jack doesnt appear now to understand the word corona, whereas in season 1 he was a knowledgeable astronomer. Jack attacks Daniel all the time - ’Its never over with you is it’; ’ Shut up Daniel, is that clear enough for you’? Jack and Sam have a love affair going which can and does go nowhere. Sam is visibly upset when Jack walks past her to another woman. There is no physical contact between Daniel and Jack/Sam/Teal’c even when Daniel has just been in cardiac arrest and is barely conscious.(The Light) The arguments rage , the tag scenes to mend them are deemed not necessary.
Where are we the audience left? Bewildered, worried, upset, emotionally attached to all of them and hoping it will get better ............ I was all of these. What did we get in season 5? Daniel not doing much at all until Red Sky. More angst, more bad temper, some of it put right. The big Danny episodes -Summit and Last Stand -to pay back MS and the fans for not seeing much of him, showed me how little the writers understood what we liked about Daniel. Here he is , doing something totally out of character , dressed in a costume which looked like a male ’7 of 9’ (and as trashy as the female version), delivering unconvincing dialogue and the only bit that could have been interesting, (the meeting between him and Sarah/Osiris)is a damp squib lasting all of 5 seconds! A cop out or what? Poor writing, poor characterisation, the whole 2 parter was wasted and should never have got past the executive.
Then the response to MS’ giving in his notice in is not to try to keep him but to write him an absolutely wonderful episode where he can act his socks off , but guess what, he gets to leave at the end of it and we introduce his replacement in the same episode so the fans have something to look forward to! Dont worry because he is brighter than Daniel and will read all his books ever so quickly and do his job even better!!! Would I have been devastated if I’d been treated like that? Yes,sure, you betcha...........
SO>>>>>>>>> where is this all going? From what I have read recently probably nowhere in the direction I would like. What do fans like me want?
1)SG1 season 6 to go back to the original premise of the show - exploration of new worlds and cultures.
2)True friendship between the 4 original team members. Daniel unascended and back where he belongs as a regular member of the team.
OR 3) Daniel ascended but regularly ’doing more this way’ as was hinted in Meridian - that at least would be a good reason to bring him back and would help assuage all the anguish of the last few months. PLus there are LOTS of storylines that Daniel could help with and LOTS of ways MS could act his socks off.
4)If that isnt possible, Michael Shanks back where he belongs for the last 5 episodes of the series, in the film as the 2nd main character, and possibly in the spin off if it is of suitable quality for him to want to do it.
5)JONAS QUINN consigned to the sudden death syndrome plot that has been the fate of so many characters we would have liked to see more of but havent been given the chance!!
To end this long rambling missive. I am a loyal fan of the whole show. I want the whole show to succeed for years to come. I want all the actors to feel they are contributing to the success of the show and growing as people by doing the show. I do not want the show to be a vehicle for only Daniel/ Jack stories or Jack /Sam stories. I will accept (sadly) the loss of Michael Shanks from this show if I hear that that is what he wants. I havent heard it yet. I would like to see the TPTB a bit more humble in their attitude to the real concerns of fans like me. I would like to see MGM make a real effort to address our concerns. I would like to see the release of season 1 and season 5 DVDS in region 2 ( UK) which contain artwork and extras reflecting the true contribution of Michael Shanks to the show. This would be one way to pay show him that he was appreciated. Is it too late for any of this ? Of course it isnt. Where there’s a will there’s a way!!!!!! Carole Campbell. Carole Campbell Carole Campbell <CaroleCampbell1@aol.com OR jimandcarole@postmaster.co.uk ( after end of April)> Dotcom That comradrie started disappearing in seasons four and five (do those four people actual KNOW each other???), but I continued to watch it out of hope that this was an aberration and things would get back to normal. Now I find you’ve let the best part of the show walk away, simply because he cared enough about the show and his character to ask for a return to the original premise of the series. You’ve successfully destroyed a very good show. Congratulations. Ruth Cooper < “RDA and MS were friends. But RDA is also one of the producers of the show. And he is in a very hard position. I know they talked about MS leaving . He has to put a positive spin on the state of the show when he talks to the press. He doesn’t want the show as a whole to fail. I’m sure he is also trying to balance his loyality between the show--wanting MS to stay--and his loyality to MS--letting him go, if MS feels that’s the best thing for him to do--move on. I think when he renegotiated his own contract, RDA thought that the writers could and would give more time to the other main characters. (He is only signed for 15 eps. in Season 6)But he has also been there when Jack and Daniel scenes needed to be rewritten because of the awful dialogue and "bits" they wanted Daniel to do. I’m fairly sure that he sees both sides of this issue and is trying to stay out of it as much as he can. And I’m not sure if anyone has told him how upset the fans really are about this. He doesn’t have much direct contact, most of what he is told it coming to him from the other producers--in other words filtered. It is the same for him, maybe more, as it was for MS, who had no idea of his popularity; if MS had no idea, neither does RDA” . By S.M.P. Posted on Friday, April 12, 2002, SO wha has been a problem for them both with Daniel/Jack scenes? What did they want Daniel to do that caused a problem for one or both of them?
Could it be that instead of posting on this website, we should be sending copies to RDA’s website and asking him to comment as an executive producer. He SHOULD know how the fans feel or he should not be an executive producer! Positions of responsibility carry just that - responsibility- and are not there to just enhance RDA’s career. A good manager has to be able to exploit assets and if that means finding out what an employee wants to keep them working there, then that is part of his job as well. If RDA doesnt use his position of power to help others then he will be accused ( rightly or wrongly) of not caring/ jealousy etc.
Will read your post ’Not all about Daniel’ on the other thread more carefully. I have to admit that I find all of this more and more upsetting, but the more I read about it, the more I feel we cannot just let it go. NB I have been a senior manager myself and know that to keep everybody happy you have to know their strengths and their weaknesses ( as well as your own) and you have to know what the comsumer feels about your product. Carole Campbell <CaroleCampbell1@aol.com OR jimandcarole@postmaster.co.uk> I watched ?Fail Safe? last week, and I was practically in tears. My team was together. They were in the same place, at the same time, and no one seemed to be bent on shredding anyone else to pieces (which has been a theme of the past two seasons, you must admit). Did I like the episode? No. It had so many issues/plot holes/inconsistencies that I can?t express them in a coherent manner. However, *EVERYONE WAS TOGETHER*. They were talking to one another, not yelling, ignoring, denigrating, or otherwise pretending that the other person didn?t exist. For that reason alone, I was happy to sit through the episode. Forget SuperSam. Forget Teal?c-I-Am-An-Eyebrow. Forget Jack-I?m-Really-Dumb-And-Insensitive. Forget Daniel-IFallAsleepInHarrowingSituations. They were all in the same place at the same time, and seemed to know each other (I think they?ve had their minds wiped for most of season five, and the less said about season four the better). For no other reason than the fact that they didn?t hate each other in this episode, I love it. How pathetic is that? How far has the team strayed from Seasons 1 through 3 that I would look upon this as an episode worth rewatching? Let me just state for the record. I love RDA. I?ve watched some pretty pathetic movies-of-the-week, simply because he was in them (Yes, PTB, I find RDA very attractive. In fact, I think that his going grey has made him more attractive than ever). However, I consider the so-called ?character progression? of seasons four and five to be an insult to both RDA and the character of Jack O?Niell (Seasons 1-3). He?s become an idiot-cum-insensitive jerk, where once he was an intelligent, caring gentlemen who?s first instinct was to *protect*. The way he?s been written in the last two seasons, he?s a disgrace to the uniform and I wouldn?t trust him to protect my lunch, never mind the earth. He?s become a caricature of the colonel I?d come to love. I?ll admit, I wasn?t sure about Sam at the beginning of the first episode (That whole "My reproductive organs might be on the *inside*" line, I mean, really, who wrote that?). I?m a professional woman, and one thing I?ve never understood is the women who feel they have to be more ?male? than the man in the office next to them. Personally, I have no use for that. But Sam became this wonderful, fully realized character, full of warmth, humor and intelligence. And AT portrayed her beautifully, as a competent, fully female and competent character. I?d grown to *love* Carter. She was completely feminine, but also completely competent, intelligent and capable. Of course, it doesn?t hurt that AT is a very beautful woman. But early in season 4, she started to look like she?d been sucking too many lemons, and I came to realize it was the scripts. They labotamized the character in season 4, then turned her into TechnoGirl in season 5. *SIGH*. Teal?c. What a wasted opportunity. He started out as a character who made the best of a bad situation. He was ready to sacrifice himself (note to the writers, *himself*), on the slight possibility it could someday bring his people freedom. I?ll admit, I wasn?t sure he was going to be a regular character, but based on the character and CJ?s portrayal, I was sure hoping that he would be. I liked him. I *really* liked him. He had strength, caring, nobility. And yes, PTB, CJ filled out those Jaffa-threads in a very satisfying manner. But that isn?t the important part to me. I?ve grown to love the wisdom, strength and loyalty of the character, and I love that Teal?c is always there for the team. He?s the pillar upon which the rest of the team depends. I?m sorry that he was non-existent in season 4, and is being used as alien-comic-relief in season 5. CJ and Teal?c both deserve better. Daniel and MS. Jeez. What can I say that hasn?t been said better than I could ever express? MS has made the character his own, expanding upon the character from the movie (The only one I liked, wholeheartedly). Daniel is the reason I tuned into SG-1 in the first place. I didn?t much like the Jack character, until the very end of the StarGate movie, so it wasn?t Jack that made me watch the pilot episode. Daniel is kind and caring. He?s pretty much the representation of all that is best about the human race, and he?s become quite competent over the length of the series. The other characters (used to) trust him implicitly. Why couldn?t the writers bring him into the whole ?earthbound-conspiracy? arc? Even if he isn?t military, he is a student of history and human nature, so I don?t buy this whole mullarky about him having nothing to add to the NID storyline. I mean, if nothing else, he is a genius, isn?t he? You aren?t going to forget about that, are you? You?ve changed so many other elements of Stargate history and continuity, I shouldn?t be surprised you?ve completely missed/ignored this. I mean, I don?t consider myself the most cerebral of television watchers, but give me a break! What is your collective IQ? So there you go, PTB. I find that even with a very attractive cast, the show is lacking. I won?t bother with season 6, and I?m not sure if I can stomach the end of season 5, although I will try. I love the characters who are SG-1, and I?ve come to love the actors who portray them. However, I find the writing to be sincerely lacking. What does that mean to you? To me, it means that I don?t care what ?good-looking, well-known hunk?, you bring into the cast. It isn?t enough for me. The crap you?re pushing isn?t the wonder I fell in love with. I feel bad for RDA, AT and CJ. I even feel bad for CN. I?m sure he?s going to get a lot of flack for the character of DumbAss (Oh, I?m sorry. I meant Jonas). I just want CN to know, it isn?t him, so please don?t take any of this personally. It?s just that the writers have really let the fans down in the past few seasons. -mishel BTW - I bought Season 1 on DVD. I?ll buy Seasons 2 and 3 as well, but I won?t bother with anything else. I know I?m not in your ?target demographic?, but I just thought you should know.
Mishel <Mishel_Mullan@Hormail.Com> Dear PTB: Some people noticed the obvious demotions in the parts of Teal’c and Daniel Jackson over the past two years. Some people don’t or just don’t care because they are purely Jack/Sam shippers by choice. However, I am a shipper and a Danielite, who has been completely disgusted with every turn of events over the past two years. I didn’t like how Amanda Tapping started playing Samantha Carter so cocky in the beginning of season 4. I don’t like how Daniel Jackson became even more of a loner/outcast to the team. I didn’t like how Richard Dean Anderson tried to make Jack O’Neill into a more human superhero by making him dense. I loved it before. It worked. It was a masterpiece. The team dynamic was incredible and so entertaining!
But, I honestly can’t believe what you did with Meridian on top of what they have already been doing. It wasn’t enough that you have been slowly writing the character off for two years. It wasn’t enough that you only gave Daniel the story arc with Sha’re for two years, which was only a minor b-plotline from the movie Star Gate. However, you made it the only driving force for the character for the series. After two years of disrespect toward this character, you decided the character and the fans aren’t worthy of an upgrade. In Meridian, you decided to replace him in the same episode he is leaving, with a character that is a complete clone who is played by someone who is supposedly a "big name actor" label given by Brad Wright. You killed off Daniel, in the most terribly, painful manner possible. It wasn’t enough to disgrace the character and the actor, but now you are after the fans themselves. How could you do this? How can you care about the hand full of "Parker Lewis" fans that might be still around and might be joining stargate fandom, but don’t care about the Michael Shanks/Daniel Jackson/Team fans that are here now? I realize there is two sides to this story, but I really don’t understand how Michael Shanks’ request to simply be included as part of the team, like he was in earlier seasons, was something worth destroying the show and dismissing the actor, character, and fans over. 1. So Mr. Shanks has visited this website? Most cool! If he swings by again, somebody tell him to visit the humor section, if only long enough to read "Four Characters in Search of Good Writing". Sums things up nicely. He might also find it reassuring to know that his toes aren’t the only focus of bizarre websites out there -- Junior’s Web Page is too funny! ("Kneel before your future god, Tau’ri scum." Hee-hee...) 2. If I needed a single word to describe the episode "Wormhole X-treme", the series 100th episode, it would be "masturbatory". Rather than thanking the fans, the writers and production staff clearly spent a week wanking -- er, I mean congratulating -- themselves with an episode that had nothing whatsoever to do with the series storylines themselves. Frankly, I think that’s indicative of the entire problem with the production staff. They’re more interested in making their own entertainment, making sure they’re having fun as producers, than they are in producing a quality show and making sure we have fun watching. At least, it begins to explain why they’ve so cheerfully reshaped (or is it "deformed"?) the series into what it is now; why the writers hang out in online chat rooms with specific groups (rather than the fandom as a whole); why they respond to our questions and emails with such blithe disregard; and why they dismiss the fans who have expressed opposing viewpoints as a vocal (read: whiny) minority (read: unimportant) outside the cherished demographic (read: chicks). Hm. Come to think of it, that explains why they have run Amanda Tapping’s character into the ground, too. She’s vocal and female; applying the translator key above, that works out to "whiny chick". To be fair, however, I don’t know how much being female has to do with the producer’s problems. "Vocal" seems to be the bigger issue. Michael Shanks got "vocal", after all, and see where it got him? Sigh. Done ranting, now.

This is my second letter to you concerning the state of the television series Stargate SG-1. My first letter was sent to you by mail during Season 4 to voice my dissatisfaction with Season 4 of the series. I didn’t expect that my voice would be heard since it seems that the only good audience is the 18-34 year old male audience. I was not disappointed. My concerns were not heard, my voice was ignored and I was dismissed as unimportant as a viewer. The email you responded with was nice but didn’t really address the deficits I kept seeing in the writing of the series as it evolved. Unfortunately I was correct once down the path of pleasing the young male demographics the television industry is incapable of truly understanding what an intelligent, mature audience composed of women and men might want from a television and movie series. It is much easier to produce a show were the most important aspects is the number of explosions and how many cool battles there are then to write a series that evolves the main characters and has actual plotlines. That is plotlines not borrowed or copied from other television series or movies - really did you think we wouldn’t recognize Armageddon? To add to this inability of actually going above the IQ of teenage adolescent males, is the unquestionable crime of sabotaging a perfectly good character by making her the "perfect" woman. How evolved of you, really you might want to join the 21st century! Women don’t need to be perfect to succeed. Fancy that! Pedestals are no longer in vogue. The superwoman persona was discarded in the late 80’s early 90’s when women realized that it was as restrictive as any other misogynist ideal. You might want to do some research on the subject, it might serve to enlighten you as to the dissatisfaction that is running rampant in the Stargate fandom. Of course to add insult to injury you proceeded with writing out 2 valid characters i.e. Teal’c and Daniel Jackson, so that you might be able to bring on board 2 dimensional constructs that obviously required less work then writing for 3 dimensional ones that had been in the series since the beginning. Teal’c is staying so that he can continue being the brunt of slapstick comedy moments and the straight man to the comedic team of Malozzi and Mullie. Daniel Jackson on the other hand left to be replaced by the most ignoble character this side of the gate. Does the word Honour mean anything to you Mr. Wright? I doubt it very much if you dare say that Jonas Quinn is a character I should like and respect. I am deeply offended as a Canadian and a person, that you dare tell me that this coward, this liar, this thief and traitor is worth any consideration whatsoever. I suggest you go read up on the concepts of Honour, Heroism, Valour, Tolerance and Humility. These are concept that you should be aware of, that you should have embraced as a Canadian. I am truly offended and disgusted by what you think is honourable behaviour. Instead of trying to redeem the character of Jonas Quinn why don’t you spend your energy writing for Stargate instead. You know that show that was quite interesting and imaginative? The one from seasons 1 through 3? Go sit and watch it, it might just give you ideas. Original ideas! You might also want to try and write back in Daniel Jackson one of the 2 original characters from the movie, the movie that spawned the series. Daniel Jackson was one of 2 stars of the movie and he made both the movie and the series, human. Daniel was a character that displayed valour, intelligence, a sense of wonder and humanity that is now gone. No more will we see the struggle of higher ideals versus expediency of means and that is as sad a commentary on the state of Stargate as I can make. Josee Sue Post <lunar@blueyonder.co.uk > Sarah Greenhalgh <sarah.greenhalgh@ntlworld.com> In response to Dizzy, I don’t think RDA is a fibber. I just think he doesn’t have a lot of say in the matter. I know he is a PTB, also, but he doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of say in the direction of the show and the direction of storylines. Honestly, the only person that seems to know of these projects that Michael Shanks is planning to do is Brad Wright. He is the person, who jumped the gun, and stated Michael Shanks was leaving on "mutual terms" and to "pursue other projects" at Gatecon. This occurred months before Michael Shanks had an opportunity to tell his own story. This was the story Brad Wright probably wanted Michael Shanks to use. However, fans also had those months to figure out other possiblities for why Michael Shanks was leaving, especially when his character has been so noticeable demoted. After the treatment Michael Shanks received during the filming of Meridian and the fact that Brad Wright never intended to let him guest star, I am not surprised that Michael Shanks added his two cents worth. I am totally in support of Michael Shanks telling Brad Wright to "take the script and shove it!"
Tom Mahoney Can’t quite get this outta my head - is RDA a "fibber" then? He clearly restates the reasons for MS leaving - so come on now folks (TBTB that is...) - did he jump or was he pushed? (Me = MS FAN!!! & RDA Fan "sob!")

Our previous report that Samantha Carter becomes the temporary host of a Goa’uld symbiote in this episode was not entirely correct. Carter pretends to have been infected with a Goa’uld so that she can infiltrate them, disguising her voice with the voice modulator Daniel used in Season Five’s "Proving Ground." Because of the protein marker left behind by the Tok’ra Jolinar, she is able to fool them -- possibly because they are not fully mature symbiotes. Goa’uld have been able to sense before that Sam was once blended, but that she is no longer ("Seth," "Jolinar’s Memories"). "Because they are infants, the cloned Goa’uld implanted in the townspeople can only take over when the people are sleeping. [Continuity Note: Kawalsky’s Goa’uld couldn’t control him all the time, back in Season One’s "The Enemy Within."] So the Goa’uld are doing all their work [building a ship to escape Earth] at night -- thus the title of the episode. The NID are aware of what’s going on.
They’re letting it happen so they can get the ship the Goa’uld are building (and thus all the technology behind it) once it’s finished.">> Ok, from what I gather the inmature Goa’uld’s that are referenced in this episode have been cloned from the one in Adrian Conrad and this is why the above *continuity* doesn’t make a lick of sense to me. As we have seen as recently as Summit/Last Stand all symbiotes be they Goa’uld or Tok’ra absorb and retain the memories and knowledge held by the hosts they take..I mean this has been one of the biggest concerns about having SGC personnel taken over since the show began. We also know that Goa’uld larva are geneticly born with the full and
complete knowledge of all the goa’uld. If they weren’t, then they wouldn’t be able to be creating this ship that the NID want to get their hands on. So if they retain all knowledge gathered from the host and they are cloned from the Goa’uld in Adrian Conrad who knows all about Sam Carter and her Jolinar incident and the protein markers (reference back to Desperate Measures)then why on earth do they NOT know that she is capable of fooling them and don’t they just disregard any
trick she might want to play on them. Why on Earth would Sam Carter agree to such an idea..she who knows more than anyone about the way symbiotes retain memories and EXACTLY what Adrian Conrad knows about her(I mean that WAS what Desperate Measures was all about right?). I mean if anyone watching this episode is suppose to accept that the larva are smart and mature enough to use their memories of Goa’uld technology to build a ship to escape in, then surely they are smart and mature enough to access those memories from the Adrian Conrad symbiote and not be fooled by Carter. And what’s this hoo-haw about the protein markers..that’s not what makes goa’uld and tok’ra symbiotes able to detect each other in hosts..it’s the Naquahah in their bloodstream as was clearly defined in the episodes In The Line of Duty, Rite of Passage, Serpent’s Song and The First Ones. Cassie has never been a host, but because of the Naquadah in her blood stream from the bomb, she can sense Goa’uld or Tok’ra presence in others. My guess is that maybe this episode is geared more towards the new audience that SG1 hopes to pick up on Scifi since they will have little knowledge of the show’s past history or *canon*. Or maybe this is kinda like the DHD thing or the idea in Summit/Last Stand that only Yu would know Daniel’s face. This kinda overlooks the episode
with Aris Boch in it that tells us that the system lords had put a bounty on the heads of SG1. Since Aris knew them on sight, the system lords must have images of all the members of SG1 to give to bounty hunters LOL. Oh well that was just my *huh, say what?* for the spoilers on this episode. GateAngel asadfan Kimbel James <mageblue@yahoo.com> I don’t have that much of a problem with the fact that Daniel’s ’ascended.’ I don’t like it, but I could have found it acceptable if TPTB had somehow found a way to write Daniel into the sixth season and kept him with the team--even as a walking strobe light. There are tons of stories there, and by not exploring the possibilities, instead of getting a fresh new season we’re going to get old, re-hashed plots where the scripts have "Daniel" whited out, and "JonASS" scribbled in... and four strangers pretending to work together. DJ DJ Norris <DNorris@sbtravel.com> syxx1980ca - Shelley <syxx@cogeco.ca> Death of Apophis: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING! You took the major villain of the show, Mister Bad-Ass with his history with Teal’c, his history with Daniel (Sha’re), his history with Jack (Skaara) and you have him die like *that*? Bad Brad! No biscuit! Ankh - Cheryl <maat@ankh.freeserve.co.uk> Michelle & Serena I have one teensy weensy favour to ask. Could you pretty please write some episodes for Daniel? Not that I would try to influence you - you have your own vision! - but it would be a betrayal of CANON if you don’t. I would be eva so grateful and would wuv you 4 eva! This is not an attempt to curry favor! I wuv the powers that be! I have FAITH in the powers that be - so that’s 12 episodes about Daniel with three movies, his own spin off show and an action figure (anatomically correct) by Christmas, k? Kissies! PTB number one fan Dizzy <Private> John Peterson <no spam> Merry Merlyn <merlyn5000@ NOSPAMyahoo.com> chrisincornwall <chrisincornwall@hotmail.com> How can those in charge - Joe M, Brad W in particular - ignore the cries of the fans? What’s going to happen when Meridian screens *finally* in the US and everyone realises just what is happening? Do they think this is just going to go away? That everyone will love season 6 and forgive them? I won’t watch season 6, and I agree with the person who said they wouldn’t watch a spin-off. Who wants to go through this again? The team was perfect. Jack was the sceptic with the resources to get them through. Sam the thinker, with the background to see what wasn’t obvious. Teal’c the strength and the determination, set against any barriers. And Daniel was the glue that held the team together, the morality and the soul. Someone who could leap to conclusions and be right, without having to do all the in-between calculations. Someone we loved and cared for. Why do people always need to destroy things of beauty? Why do series executives think it’s a good to take something and utterly tear it to pieces until it fits a demographic that exists only in stereotyping? I’m baffled, angry and hurt. And I know for a fact that I’m not a lone voice or a part of a loud continguent. You can’t sideline us, guys. You need to listen, because others are listening. Maddy <maddy@burble.com> It was bad enough when you started writing stories that moved away from the Original Team Spirit, trashed the Jack and Daniel friendship, started the ridiculous--and unmilitary-- Jack and Sam thread, turned Teal’c into nothing more than a pillar with gun. But to let the actor playing the most-humane character on the show to leave without trying to FIX the situation is the height of stupidity. Totally. Reading the spoilers for Season Six--WHICH I WILL NOT WATCH (SCI-FI, are you listening??) it seems to me that you’re trying to turn this Jonas character into a Daniel Clone and are bent on shoving him down our throats. If you can write lines for a Daniel clone, then why couldn’t you write lines for the ORIGINAL CHARACTER? Bring back Daniel, bring back the original, caring relationship between Jack and Daniel and Sam and Teal’c, and you just MIGHT be able to salvage something from the mess you’ve created. Ever heard of Star Trek? It’s a little thing Paramount owns. Of course, you may not want a franchise of your own.... Montana Jiemkowski < Col. Jack Let’s do that break down together ok: First RDA says" ... to be quite honest, Michael leaving is a product of the respective parties making decisions based on what their projected needs are going to be in the long term." This is EXACTLY what Michael has said in his interviews..he sat down with the MGM executives and put his cards on the table about how unhappy he was and what he wanted to see for Daniel Jackson in order for him to stay. The MGM executives then countered with a negative response telling Michael that they what he wanted or needed didn’t suit the goals they had in mind. Simple as that. Next RDA said: "Michael indicated that he wanted to move on, which is quite a natural reaction after five long years of the rigours of this show. He is also an actor who’s young and has a lot to do with his career." Again this matches what Michael has said as well. Michael has said that once he knew that the MGM executives weren’t interested in working with him to *upgrade* Daniel and in fact were quite willing to let him walk away, he made the only intelligent choice he could for himself and his career. Michael left and is now actively seeking other projects to work on. And finally RDA said: "I think he knew that going in and what we’ve done is address the issue. It is a massive, big, big change but I support his decision wholeheartedly." And this too agrees with what Michael has stated. He knew going in that laying his cards on the table was a big decison and one he didn’t intend to make lightly. Out of all this came the episode Meridian which as RDA says addresses the issue of Daniel’s departure. And as for RDA personally and not as a exec supporting Michael’s decisons I can see that because RDA knows from experience full well how tough this kinda thing can be having once did the very same thing in order to escape what he called *burning alive* in his role as Jeff Webber on General Hospital. I’m glad to hear that RDA supports Michael’s choices and why he had to make them. I think maybe RDA had to make some tough choices in this too..it’s only my speculation, but I think he had to weigh his vested interest in the whole thing for his production co Gekko Film Corp and he had to take into consideration his partner Michael Greenburg and if he felt the same why. Sometimes setting priorities can be hard and they can’t be done with emotions. Just my thoughts. Again, Dizzy thanks for sharing here and for taking time to speak up. I appreciate it:) GateAngel After reading through it all I have to say that I’m amazed and confused that any one group of people can be so clueless about what their viewing public wants to see. Daniel Jackson not a popular member of SG-1? Nobody will notice he’s even gone? "Everybody" wants a Sam and Jack romance? Nobody wants Jack and Daniel to be friends? Hello?????? Anybody home in the executive lounge??? I’ve managed to ignore the poor plots of the last two years, and gave Jack and Daniel every excuse I could think of for the way they’ve...bitched...at each other, and I forgave the writers for turning a very good female role model into thier Perfect Wonderwoman Sam because I like Amanda Tapping. But to allow the best actor in the show to walk away--not because he wanted more money, not because he wanted to be the number one person in each episode, but because he simply wanted the writers to put the original team dynamic back into the series and give his character something useful to do As A Member Of The TEAM--to allow that to happen has to be the height of stupidity. I have no desire to watch the sixth season on Sci-Fi, certainly don’t want to watch a movie that doesn’t include the other half of the original team, and have no interest at all in thier spin-off series. I’m not about to get caught up in another show only to have the idiots in charge destroy it. Joshua Cooper < I agree with Kimbel’s post. That is a very good point. Daniel is safe now from you. You can’t hurt him now, you can’t try to revert the character back to the way he used to be in the movie--a stereotypical geek. I don’t want a comedy act at this character’s expense! I am tired of the way he has been sidelined and disowned by his teammates. Since Small Victories, every scene that the team has been in together, if we are fortunate to get team scenes, is uncomfortable. What happened to the team chemistry? Why don’t they interact anymore? I really liked how this civilian/loner/geek became part of this military team and it actually worked. He adjusted and well! The team dynamic was incredible. For the past two seasons now, he has been turned back into a loner and disowned by the team. What is this about? Anyway, I have given more thought into watching/not watching season 6. And, I am back to not watching, and it is totally because of Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn) now. Sure, I love the rest of the team, and I would like to know how the surviving team members are holding up. But the character Jonas Quinn should not have been introduced until Season 6 (if at all). You brought him in in the same episode as Daniel was leaving as punishment to Michael Shanks. That is what he represents--punishment to Michael Shanks for leaving. I have switched jobs three times in the last five years. I know how difficult it has been for me to leave the people I grew so close to, and we are talking months here.
I cannot imagine the torture it had to have been for Michael Shanks to get through Meridian. He was letting go of the character he so obviously adores, the cast and crew he adores, and the home he had for five years. And, there is his replacement ready to push him out the door. He put forth five years of dedication, skill and fantastic acting talent toward this show. I think enough respect, appreciation, and professionalism could have been shown to him/the character by TPTB before shoving him out the door, at first opportunity. He wasn’t even allowed to finish out the season! Nice symmetry? You think Meridian had "nice symmetry" the way a replacement came in and took over? I honestly cannot come up with a word to describe this! EPT <earlyprimaryteacher@yahoo.com> It’s so simple even a fan can figure it out.
1) Write scripts that show Jack and Daniel and Sam and Teal’c working together IN HARMONY, AS A TEAM... 2) Show them to Michael Shanks, who seems to be that rare actor who actually likes the character he helped mold, and the TV show he helped make popular... 3) GET HIM BACK. 4) Get rid of that ridiculous Jack and Sam crap.
5) Remind yourself that Stargate is about Jack and Daniel first and foremost, with a lot of help from Sam and Teal’c. 5) Sit back and reap the benefits of fixing what could be a lucrative franchise for you. 6) Ignore points one through four and watch number five slip through your fingers. Steve Mills <Zephyr1@yahoo.com> i’ll be contented..no wait, i demand to see all the sg-1 team reunited in the final episode. and and extra note... something i don’t understand is, if daniel has been in sg-1 for that long wouldn’t you think he’d learn some military skills? There were heaps of other roads they could have taken to prevent this from happening, i think they(the writers and producers) exchanged their imagination for some machinal spiders and over done special effects the_third_tower <n/a> I watched my first ever episode of Stargate because the character of Daniel caught my eye. Without him, the same sparkle won’t be there. When I thought it was his choice, I accepted it. With some of the stuff I’ve been reading lately, I fully support the ’Save Daniel Jackson’ campaign. But maybe it should be called the ’Save Our Stargate’ campaign because I for one think Stargate just won’t be the same without our favourite archaeologist. Clo <kismetjh@hotmail.com> And in our innocence, we thought them creatures of fiction. Mel <Private> Stargate SG-1 and its characters are the property of Stargate (II) Productions, SCI FI Channel, Showtime/Viacom, MGM/UA, Double Secret Productions, and Gekko Productions.
