Boycott: Week No. Four

I live in the States, and I don't watch the show formally known to me as Stargate SG-1. I have no intention of watching it. It is not Stargate SG-1 anymore, so why would I? Whatever this is, it's a ghost in my television that haunts me every Friday night.

For the past four Fridays since the beginning of Season 6, I have solemnly acknowledged the time this shell of a formerly-great show airs, gaze longingly at my darkened TV, and grieve. But I made a promise to TPTB when I started writing letters and calling MGM that I would not watch — that I was through with Stargate SG-1 without the original team intact.

I've kept my promise. All or nothing. If I can't have it all, I want nothing.

My boycott has two purposes: 1) to discourage any possible rise in ratings that my humble viewings might generate, and 2) to save me from misery. If I were to witness the feeble, contrived, and desperate attempts made by those involved in the show (via producing, writing, directing, and acting) to replace what is simply irreplaceable, it would be highly upsetting, and I won't put myself through it.

I miss my show. I miss the Team. I miss it desperately. I am deeply saddened and have shed more than a few tears, but I feel there is no clearer message I could send of my disapproval than by tuning out and turning away.

I really and truly believe TPTB are getting this message (whether they do anything about it is another story.) There's too much evidence that the fan outcry has been seriously underestimated and the cages are being rattled at MGM.

The conspicuous increase in desperate and laughable attempts to discredit the SDJ campaign and anyone supporting it is met with a proportional increase in grace and dignity by SDJ campaign organizers and supporters as they remain focused on the campaign's objective and how to achieve it.

I've been paying attention to what's happening in this fandom. I've read the spoilers for the new season and stay on top of much of what is going on with the show in spite of my refusal to watch it. I've heard from people who wanted to give season 6 a chance. The independent-minded not associated with any side of this issue are consistently reporting disappointment. So I'm grateful I made the decision not to watch. The show I knew as Stargate SG-1 is now a sad parody of itself and carries not one iota of the quality it once did.

And sadly, I see TPTB piling tons and tons of manure on this thing, hoping something beautiful will grow. I see a lot of putting out of fires, scrambling to explain decisions made, the desperate "Daniel- ization" of Jonas Quinn, and frantic attempts to gain a foothold back into fandom by marketing to a "fresh" audience.

They do so, because they know full well they've lost the respect and trust of a formidable number of valuable, long-time fans — a number they are only now beginning to recognize as, in fact, a rather vocal MAJority.

Oh, they get it, all right. They just can't sell it. And they know it.

My two cents.

READ THIS ABSOLUTELY MISTER PRODUCTER OF STARGATE SG-1 Don't you understand?? Do you ever watch your show, visit some Internet site, that are ONLY on your new way to write your episode.

I'm sorry , no i'm not sorry, you may be the one who need to apologize to ALL the person that are tired like me of this stupid-no-were-in-the-magnific-serie-that-could-be-stargate and you're poor writter with no immagination. If you don't find new, just ask to listener of your serie to find new ideas, if this is what you need. or, go find your immagination in the FIRST episodes of Stargate!!!

I'll tell another things to restart Stargate: get off the snake in the head of Jack, shoot this poor Jonas, AND GET BACK DANIEL in same time to get back the integrity of the team.

Someone that is tired of this BAD way to go

Hi everyone. First, I'd like to say that this is very bad that he get out of the team, ,cause like Samantha said, they were a team, and he's as much important than Teal'c and Sam. I know a LOT OF person that are very angry that Daniel die so badly, and personnaly I think that your listen cote will get down very fastly!!! If you don't understand my very strange english, I'll just say three words: DANIEL MUST RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a complete Daniel die-hard fan (though he's my favorate char), I love the unique team dynamics with Daniel in it. I am watching Season 4 on syndication. I only watch episodes the team as a whole (I skip episodes like Entity, Prodigy, etc. after seeing the trailers). I have not seen Meridian. I am not watching season 6 (although I will watch Abyss). From what I heard they have made Jonas out to be, I have no desire whatsoever to like him and enjoy the show again.

Like many out there, I feel the family has been broken up by Daniel's "departure". If they were to replace hime with someone, the least they could do was to have the new character spend at least 3 to 4 episodes to emulate his predecessor. Then it would be more realistic and make the character more likable. Having Jonas being able to absorbed everything that Daniel spent a lifetime learning and experiencing in one episode is disrespect in its utmost form. The only solace I find in this is that he may be able to absorb the knowledge, but never the emotial ties with the knowledge and experience.

I think my dislike for Jonas is making me a die-hard Daniel fan.

Dear producers and writers of the new, tacky carnival sideshow, STAGNATE SG-1:

Would you kindly brush the cobwebs from the big round lump of metal you've placed in storage and herd Jonas onto the ramp in front of it?

As a platinum tsunami punches through the circle and kerwooshes him out of his Nikes, you will be rewarded by a deafening round of applause from the six viewers still watching.

(This in no wise constitutes a death threat.)

I've given up. I'm throwing in the towel. I can't take it anymore. "Frozen" is that straw that broke this camel's back. Who on earth (or the UNIVERSE) are you people writing for? Not your average, intelligent viewer, that's obvious.

I was willing to give it a chance without Daniel, even though I considered him pretty much un-replaceable. Even though I heartily dislike the smirking alien putz you hired to try and take Daniel's place. Even though the episodes have gotten worse and worse over the years.

I'm done now. You can take you Dumber-than-an-diot Jack, Once-upon-time-SUPER-Sam (not sure what she is now), Invisable-Teal'c, and He-Who-Is-Now-Apparently-GOD-Jonas and bury them. Along with your oh-so-desired movie and new series and franchise.

As I understand it, Michael Shanks is one of those rare breed of people: genuinely nice. He's probably very unhappy to see that a show he loved so much is puking all over itself. Me? I'm not that nice. You deserve everything you're getting right now.

I am thrilled to be able to now watch SG-1 every week on the Scifi channel. I was disappointed to find that Daniel Jackson is no longer a part of the stroy line. He is such an intregal part of the story that I am surprised he has been written out. The writers must also feel he is an intregal part of the story because he is mentioned in each episode. I hope you are planning to bring him back. I think he and the new character Jonas could have add new interest to the show, especially now that more viewers can watch on Scifi

To Hank Cohen, and the writers/producers of Stargate SG-1:

I'm curious. Have you forgotten what show you're making here? Stargate. A Gateway to the Stars. Other planets, other worlds, other civilizations. So far this season we've been stuck on earth with poor scripts, poorer acting and a team filled with people who couldn't give a shit about each other.

You began to stray three years ago. We wrote to you then and expressed our worry and dismay. You ignored us. You forced Michael Shanks to make a painful and unbearable choice. You continued writing scripts that got worse and worse and you replaced Daniel Jackson with a character who is completely unredeemable. For Jonas Quinn there is no Redemption. What he did was dispicable, and all he can do is smile about it.

I'll watch Abyss, because I love the Jack and Daniel dynamic. Other than that, I've given up. I can't watch anymore, you'll have to bury yourselves without me.

Hi everybody: I'm from Argentina. My name is Clara and I like very much the tv program Stargate. I want to say that I love much as I can the character of Michael Sanks as Dr. Daniel Jackson. If He is not at the team I feel that something is missed. In Argentina We love Dr. Daniel Jackson, so please make Daniel go back to the Stargate team.

I watched my first episode of Season 6 last night. . .ah, poor Jonas. The character and the actor who portrays him have been asked to do an impossible task: save SG1 from the boring mediocrity to which they are rapidly sinking. Jonas is supposed to do this armed only with a wide grin and soulful innocence. Where is the intellect? Where is the fire? Jonas has nothing to offer.

It s not that I hate the management who decided to ax Michael Shanks. It s not that I feel that Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapps and my favorite alien, Mr. Judge, are not up to the task of carrying on without him. I simply noticed a lack, a complete and utter sense of something missing in the episode that aired last night. For want of a better term, I will call it chemistry. This same magical ingredient that makes a couple more than friends is what made the original Four of SG1 a force to be reckoned with. Jack was the tough-guy with the soft underbelly, Sam the smart girl with the good sense to see Jack s better side, T lk (sorry, I know that s not correct but it will have to do) the straight man to any situation, and then there was Daniel, the voice of wonder and pure joy, even in the midst of sorrow. The story lines feel flat, the team feels disjointed and Jonas is too obviously a poor second choice.

If there is any way to get Michael Shanks back on the show as more than a guest, I think the show will have to do it if it wants to survive. SG1 is a cult hit, in much the same way Twin Peaks was before it. By allowing management to break up the Team, it will quickly slide into obscurity. And I, for one, would like to know how it all ends. I think that we can come up with something better than it seems to be headed for.

Give us our happy ending. Let Daniel Jackson, the man who started it all, stay until the end. The show is not the same without him.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Larson

If the makers of my favorite cereal suddenly changed the recipe from something I loved to something I didn't want to eat, I would stop buying it. The makers of my favorite TV show have changed the recipe from something I loved to something I don't want to watch, and I am switching off. I can't tell you how disappointed I am in what the writers and producers have done to what used to be my favorite show. I don't watch a lot of TV because I have a lot of things I try to cram into a little free time, but up until this point I always made time to watch Stargate. After Friday night's episode, Frozen, I've called it quits. The things I loved most about this show are gone:

The premise of the show (I thought) was for teams to go through that big round circle called the Stargate and have adventures exploring other planets and meeting other cultures. I've watched four episodes on SciFi and so far have only had a glimpse of it.

The team I loved is also gone. I don't even recognize these people. Jack O'Neill would agree to get a snake in his head?? Who *is* this man? He's not the Jack O'Neill I've watched since Children of the Gods. If, from what I've read, RDA just wanted some time off, surely they could have come up with a better storyline than completely assassinating his character! He won't even be *Jack* anymore! He'll be a former Tok'ra host. Don't we already have enough of those running around? In fact, don't we already have one of the team...?

Speaking of Sam Carter, where is she? And what is she? She used to be a bright-eyed, sharp military scientist who showed a bit of hero worship for her C.O. (this was before she turned into that simpering Other Sam who became Jack's 'yes person' and batted her big blue eyes at him at every opportunity.) She was given a wonderful storyline by the writers by being Tok'ra'd, and then hardly anything was done to explore her feelings or conflicts. Instead they assassinated *her* character by having her make eyes at her C.O. and turn into Super Woman.

I've lost Teal'c too. Mainly because he's hardly had anything to do for the last couple of years. You hardly know he's there. And when he is there he's dressed up in silly clothes wearing silly hats and saying silly things like a part of a comedy team. When I watch my DVD's from earlier seasons I see a man who I believed was the First Prime of Apophis; I look at him now and just feel sorry for him.

And Daniel Jackson. From what I've read here and other places they tried to assassinate his character as well but the actor wouldn't let them. (Good for you, Michael Shanks!) You can be glad you're not standing around with Teal'c in what they're now trying to pass off as Stargate. I don't think you'd recognize it. I know I don't. If Michael Shanks does come back at Daniel Jackson I'll come back to watch those episodes, but I'm through with this silly cartoon version of what used to be my favorite show.

So I've lost the premise of Stargate and I've lost the team, the real reason I watched the show. For the team that is left (I can't consider this new guy a part of the team. He repulses me in a way I can't even describe.) I don't even get the feeling they care about each other - or what they're doing - any more. The spark is gone. That wonderful feeling of 'family' is gone, and the stories are so contrived and convoluted I have no reason left to watch.

I've stopped buying it.

Miriam Sworn expertly expressed the looming downfall of this once wonderful show. Is the entire TV audience to be treated as a generic viewing population, one represented by vulgarity, simple minded violence, weak sex appeal and story lines without vision or imagination? Stargate was my personal all time favorite show; however I will no longer watch the program or the upcoming move unless Daniel and the intelligence and depth he represents to Stargate is restored. Bring back the intelligent and visionary scripts and get the Stargate up and running. Please respond to your very loyal and distressed audience and save this (once) splendid show from mediocrity. Let there be a place for visionary minds, wonder, intellectual curiosity and the marvel of possibilities. We don’t need yet another rendition of mindless hash.

Writers of Stargate, I am so disappointed in what you have done to my favorite show. For the past 3 years you have done nothing except destroy all that was good about this show and put total garbage in its place. Back in S2/S3 you had so many great storylines I couldn't wait to see where they were going. Now you have ruined all of them. The Protected Planets Treaty, Sam-and-Martouf, the quantum mirror, the Tollan, the Tok'Ra, Apophis & Teal'c, Daniel & Mother Nature. You have killed almost all of the good supporting characters and now you've killed off one main character from the movie and turned the other one into a Tok'Ra. Now not only can Daniel never be Daniel again but Jack can never be Jack again either.

Why on earth did you do it? Well, I think subconsciously you are trying to prove that you don't need anything from the original movie to have a hit show so you are deconstructing all the key elements that made the movie (and the first 3 seasons) so great. You have got rid of the Egyptology, Abydos, mythology, Sha're, Skaara, Sara O'Neill, Daniel and now Jack. But those were the things that made the series great and without them it is badly written indifferently acted mediocrity indistinguishable from a hundred other shows. Budget cuts don't excuse bad writing and destroying things just for the sake of it. By trying to prove that you didn't need Devlin and Emmerich's vision because yours was better all you have done is prove how much more imaginative they were than you are. The biggest proof of this is in the Jonas Quinn character who is a poorly conceived rip-off of Daniel with none of the fascination of that character. A serial killer smile is no substitute for all that sweetness, enthusiasm, integrity, loyalty and courage that made the Daniel character the heart of the movie and the show.

Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill – two people from EARTH who got to travel the universe – is what this show should always have been about. For the first three years that was what it was about and it was the best show on television by a mile. Now I'm ashamed of what it's turned into and ashamed of you for being so petty and vindictive to prefer to destroy the show than admit that you were wrong about the changes you made and the writers you brought in.

I will watch The Abyss but after that I switch off for good. I am so disappointed in the lack of courage, vision, integrity, loyalty and imagination that you have shown. I can't even believe the same people are making the show now who were making it in the beginning and I feel so sorry for the actors for having to be a part of what this show is now when they used to be a part of what it is then. But the people I feel most sorry for are we, the viewers, who have supported you, bought your products, defended the show wherever it's been criticized only to have the critics proven right in the end and us proven wrong. This IS a 'cheesy science fiction show' after all and perhaps it would have been better if it had never been made at all as it is now being made like this.

One Friday night i turned the tv on to watch stargate,I had missed it the week before, and lo and behold, Daniel is gone. I couldn't believe it. The character's expertise in history and languages is an important part of the team. Although the new guy is trying he doesn't measure up to Daniel. PowersThatBe I've just watched 'descent' and I have to tell that you guys have totally LOST IT! The main strength of this show used to be that it was about ORDINARY PEOPLE. It was set in the here and now and involved travelling to other worlds. It was rooted in reality and it gave us heroes we could identify with instead of plastic-faced plastic-scripted aliens. Now, it feels like every other sci-fi show! First Sam, then Daniel, and now Jack, all changed into something NON-HUMAN. Fair enough with Sam she didn't have a choice and back then it was a good storyline --- not that you ever DID anything with it. The Daniel thing I didn't buy. Sorry. No way. No how. The guy lives to explore old cultures and new worlds so he gives up a job where he gets to do that all the time to go on some spiritual path to zen-feng-shui-buddha nirvana! In what universe?????? Now if it had been TEAL'C I could have bought it, but not with Daniel. Next up we get JACK the man who has said he would never be a Tok'ra agreeing to get turned into one? Do you even watch your own show? Do you have the vaguest CLUE who these characters are? This is a stupid storyline and it was carried out even more stupidly than what has now become the norm for this pale imitation of what used to be a good show. And the new addition is the metahuman cardboard cut out from HELL! This is a terrible terrible character --- a cheap Daniel rip-off played by an actor with none of the talent and none of the chemistry with the other actors. RDA looks as if he's on mogadon and I don't blame him --- these scripts are enough to send anyone to sleep. For gods sake DO something before it's too late. FIRE the new guy. FIRE these lousy writers. Get some talent and originality and IMAGINATION back on the show. Make everything since season three an alternate timeline they've managed to sidestep if you have to, just get BACK to the good ideas, get BACK to the good stories, get BACK to the GOING THROUGH THE STARGATE, and get Daniel BACK ON THE TEAM.

The first time I saw StarGate was several years ago. I just fall in love with it. I thought(and think now) that Daniel is THE MAIN CHARACTER of the StarGate. He is the one who managed to start the StarGate. I have no Sci-Fri or something like that and I have no way to whatch the StarGate. I can buy some series on VHS. But only some. I think that StarGate is the best. Even better than X-files. Without Jackson it is nothing. I wish I could watch the StarGate as every SGfan do. But I dont think it's interesting without Daniel.

A series of Stargate without Daniel Jackson is a series without a heart and a soul. MGM have taken a successful movie, made it into a hit series and for no logical reason have managed to destroy one of the main characters bit by bit until he completely vanishes (apart from the rare "occasional" guest appearance).

Let's go back to the characters in the early series - the ones that weren't stereotypical and brought smiles and enjoyment. And please bring back our Daniel Jackson, the most indepth and important character - remember, without Daniel there is no Stargate - just a big circle that no one can work out how to use.

Last night, my family and I watched Star Trek TNG from 8pm to 9pm. Then from 9pm to 10pm I read a really good book. Then I turned out the lights and went to bed. From the reports of the latest Stargate SG-1 episode on the net this morning it appears that not only did I not miss anything important, I actually saved myself more stress.

Not one person in my family watched SciFi channel last night from 9 to 11pm even though we did receive the email advert on our computers from SciFi about Stargate SG-1 and Farscape eps airing during that time.

Well, only 2 more weeks to Abyss! I will tape it to allow myself the freedom of choice to FF through all but the scenes with the original team and original characters, including Daniel, in them. Hopefully the "spark" of our favorite actors, playing our favorite characters, together will keep the story interesting even if the writing doesn't.

MGM, SciFi, tptb at Stargate SG-1...are you getting the hint yet??????? WE NEED OUR ORIGINAL TEAM BACK TOGETHER TO MAKE IT WORK!!!!

BTW: My family also decided not to go to see Windtalkers in the theaters as that is an MGM product as well. It was a movie that I wanted to see but I will not support MGM projects after what has occurred with Stargate SG-1.

This is in regard to MGM not including Daniel Jackson in the current season of Stargate.

The series is just not the same chemistry of the previous season. There is something lacking in this seasons shows.

Please put Daniel Jackson's role back into the series. If this role is not included back into the series, I will discontinue watching the series on the SciFi Channel

To let the phenomenal character Daniel Jackson go is certainly not good for this outstanding series. I'm a dedicated swedish fan of Stargate SG-1 and I think the heart and the character will now slowly drain from the series. The "replacement" is of course not a terrible one but the special bond between teammembers of SG-1 and particular that between O'Neill and Daniel J will be sadly lost. To make a long story short we all hope Shanks will be re-instated. A lot of swedish fans is sure to agree with me, I promise!

In the original film, Daniel Jackson is probably the main character. In the television series he is the only really indepth character. The show WILL go down hill and become nothing but a cliche without characters such as daniel to give it more depth. For instance, colonel O'neil is nothing but a steryotype, Teal'c is not a character who's depth has been explored, and Carter cannot hold up the show on her own. Stargate sg1 will lose a lot of it's fans without michael shanks, and i don't think MGM can afford that to happen. Also, without the archaeological aspect that Dr Jackson lends the show, it will resemble Star Trek, exploring the final frontier, and everyone knows what happened to that show- it has faded into oblivion. That is where Stargate is headed without michael shanks!

A plea to the producers and writers of Stargate SG-1: Give us back our Stargate. Please.

Give us back the Jack who was a smart, shrewd leader of men, the kind of man Teal'c believed in immediately, the kind of man who befriended Daniel Jackson and took him into his home. (We'll trade in Dumb Jack and Coma Jack. Don't know him; don't wanna know him.) Give us back Sam Carter, that feisty, brilliant soldier/scientist who refused to leave Cassandra in Singularity and cried over Daniel in Holiday. (We've got one Super!Sam to return.) Give us back Teal'c, the noble warrior, the man who was First Prime to Apophis and who lives with those memories of his dark deeds. (Got one unfunny Comic Alien for trade.) Above all: Give us back Daniel Jackson. You remember him, the guy who figured out how to open the Stargate? That brilliant, compassionate, honorable man who was human enough to have flaws and played by an actor who knew how to give him a depth that made him such an important part of the series. (Got one slightly used, smiles-too-much, uncharismatic, too-perfect-to-be-true, ripped-off-version-of-Daniel-Jackson alien to return. Don't want him. One size does *not* fit all.)

I've been with this show from the beginning and have stuck with it even when I thought it was getting off course back in seasons four and five, and I stuck with it because I could still find that spark (most of time) between Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson. As long as we had Jack and Daniel I had hope for the show. I've lost that hope. After 'Frozen', I give up. Even the good writers on that show apparently can't write any more. I'll come back for Abyss, but until you give us back Team Stargate (see above) I'm outta here.

Questions for the producers and writers:

1) Is the stargate going to be used anytime soon? It's the large stone ring with the symbols on it. It takes people to other worlds. 2) Is Daniel coming back soon because oh man do we need him. 3) Where is the real Robert Cooper and can he come back and write great scripts again? Maybe he's too busy bitching to magazines about Michael Shanks and excluding him from his 'grateful thanks' in official Startgate Companion books? Get over it, Mr C, sometimes people point out when the writing's crap. Learn from it and improve - if you're smart. Your standard's dropped lately so maybe you needed someone pointing out the flaws all along? Michael Shanks said good things about your writing. 4) Is Jack going to wake up soon? 5) Who decided Jonas was a hot hunk? Stevie Wonder? 6) Is Jonas going to be stealing Daniel's mannerisms for the entire season? And is this cloning supposed to make him appeal to the Danny fans?

Comments:

1) Jonas smiles too much and makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. He's like a psycho killer. Seriously creepy vibes. How did he get brought onboard? Did he come free with your fav cereal? 2) Use the damn gate already! 3) Get Daniel back, his team needs him and ditch Jonas. He's worse than the Tokra bimbo. I read Hank Cowen was responsible for her. Is Jonas his baby? Lose the superpowers in fact just lose Jonas. 4) Somebody wake up Jack. Given he's the reason I'm still watching I'd like to see life signs or is it just he's boring as hell without Danny and I never noticed before? 5) Start showing the real episodes of Stargate Sg-1 instead of these fakes. 6) Stop with the focus on Jonas! He's so BORING! He can't stand up to scrutiny and the more I see him the more I wish someone would beat the crap out him until he stopped SMILING! Is he sending subliminal messages to brush and rinse?

I'm from Spain, and I absolutely love Michael Shanks. I think that it is unfair that he doesn't appear in the 6th season. Why? he wants play Daniel Jackson. And then, which is the problem?? I don't understand. (please forgive my faults, I don't know to write well english)

The new guy on the show just doesn't mesh with the rest of the cast. Please bring back the character of Daniel. The original four on the show are what make it worth watching. Any of the main four cast members leaving would leave a void in the show that would be hard to fill. Please bring back Daniel and he needs to be in the movie.

Dear MGM (and cast, production crew etc.)

I wouldn't mind losing Daniel quite so much if the series was merely evolving -like X-Files? hmmm - and Michael himself left the show for purely positive reasons (I can understand actors wanting to get on with other roles in their careers!) But it appears from all the media surrounding this situation that this is NOT the case and that Shanks has basically been sidelined out of SG-1 for reasons which a very large fan-base cannot comprehend (as you refuse to discuss them in open honesty) so that we have to wonder how reasonable they truly are. Certainly we, the viewers can't see any reason to get rid of this hugely popular character who has so greatly contributed to our enjoyment of the series. The success of any show rests largely on the appreciation of its fans, and by ignoring this, you are displaying an arrogant lack of due gratitude. Throughout every season of SG-1, I personally have felt that this four-strong team demonstrates a 'working formula' that is better than that of any other SF show, and the series could not do without ANY ONE of the main cast. Just so that none of you need feel jealous ;) But although I will continue to watch the series, I can't help feeling pessimistic about how much I am going to like it with a different cast dynamic. I think you've made a serious error of judgement, which time will tell. If you don't bring back Daniel Jackson - and if you sideline any of the other original actors into the bargain - you will have no excuse to be surprised at the inevitable loss of ratings. So if you want to stage your own funeral, go ahead... I think you've received enough warnings by now!

Wake me when Abyss airs. I have tried for *four episodes* to give the 'new and improved' Stargate a chance. I have even tried to give Jonas Quinn a chance. But this is where I bow out.

I changed channels last night 30 minutes into 'Frozen' because I was bored beyond belief and couldn't take any more of Smilin' Jonas. At that point I asked myself why I had even bothered. Thinking back to Children of the Gods I remembered how vividly those characters had been drawn and acted. At the end of the episode I was enchanted with Daniel and Jack (and I didn't think I would be because I was *huge* fan of the Jack and Daniel in the movie and I was not an RDA fan) and intrigued with both Sam and Teal'c. Why? Because these were well written and well acted characters. I didn't have to go four episodes and force myself to 'give them a chance'. They made me believe who they were and what they were, and they made me believe they cared for one another. I don't even know who Jack, Sam and Teal'c are anymore, and I don't *want* to know anything else about Smilin' Jonas.

I'll tune back in for Abyss to see MS and RDA work together again and hopefully recapture that special magic that made me a fan for five years. Please someone assure me Smilin' Jonas *isn't* in that episode? I suppose I could always tape it and fast forward through his parts. Gosh, I remember Stargate when I didn't want to fast forward through *anything*.

Of course, I remember Stargate when they actually used the Stargate...

Dear whoever reads this,

I am very upset about Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) leaving the show as he is a part of the team, more than Teal'c (Christopher Judge). Daniel was the man who found the Stargate in the show so he deserves credit. He should not leave the show. The team should stay together and be a happy family. My mum and I love the show and SG-1 to have any of them leave would devastate us. I have a few ideas as to what could happen with Daniel. He comes across a set of ancient writing that brings them closer to destroying the system lords. With Daniel finding that out he gets promoted the air force way he gets more responsibilities with the team. E.g. when it comes to another culture and O'Neill thinks it would be a waste of time, Daniel gets to say if they stay or not (something like that you can think of that) Whatever you do please, please don't get rid of Daniel. I have to say this - I find Daniel very cute. Don't get rid of anyone from SG-1. I'm begging. Thank you for reading this.

I started watching Stargate SG-1 because of the character of Daniel Jackson. I had been a fan of McGyver but that wasn't enough to make me tune in. I like Richard Dean Anderson/Jack O'neil well enough but it was Daniel Jackson/Michael Shanks that kept me tuning in week after week for 5 seasons. He was the reason I subscribed to Showtime so I wouldn't have to wait to see the episodes the reason I taped the show every week without fail the reason I bought the DVDS are you getting the idea? Without Daniel Jackson the show is a poor imitation of it's previous self. I no longer tape it and if I miss it I miss it it's no big deal. When I heard Sci-fi was picking it up for a 6th season I was ecstatic then I heard Michael Shanks wasn't going to be in it and my euphoria went down the toilet. I couldn't even really enjoy the rest of season 5 because I knew what was coming. The only thing I'm looking forward to in season 6 is the possible return of Daniel and from what I see so far that's not going to happen much if at all. I wish you would realize how much a part of the show Daniel is. NO ONE can take his place. Please write him back into the show in a big way give me and the other fans something to really look forward to in season 6 the final season!

I am outraged at the removal of the Daniel Jackson character from Stargate SG-1. I have watched the first few episodes of season six and found them utterly disappointing. The show lacks an essential element - that of Daniel Jackson and without his character the new episodes are flaccid and unbalanced.

I can assure that as of the episode “frozen” I will discontinue watching Stargate SG-1 until Daniel Jackson is returned to his proper place on the team and role in the show. You can also count on not garnering my attendance at the feature film.

Please reconsider and do so swiftly

Thank You,

An extremely disappointed fan

Well, I thought I'd give it a try, see what they could do with a shifted-around SG-1 team, hold off on evaluating this Stargate-without-Daniel-Jackson thing until I saw it for myself. And now I have seen it.

Jonas isn't a bad character. And Corin isn't a bad actor. But the dynamic feels very unstable; there are a lot of things going on that look like someone isn't really sure what to do with this show. Daniel Jackson has always been my favorite character on this series, and I was astounded when I heard he was leaving; to me, at least, his personality, experiences, and knowledge formed the core of the show's energy and motivation.

Take tonight's episode, "Frozen." We have this fascinating quasi-human creature pop up, do amazing things, and die before we even find out anything concrete about her. We get this really odd theory about there having been multiple waves of human evolution, and even that is mentioned once and then dropped. The episode structure in general seemed full of false starts and zero-sum elements--this is something I've noticed through all the Season 6 episodes so far.

Plus, there are just getting to be way too many female characters on that show, with way too big a gap between them and the men. I very much appreciate the efforts at gender equalization, but it's at the point where it seems like if anything intelligent goes on, this band of women is in charge while the men stand back blinking a lot and looking impressed. If there's anything laborious to be done, the men are in charge while the women stand back looking unimpressed. It's just silly--unmilitaristic, unintegrated, awkward. It feels like flat, safe, easy writing, something that hasn't generally been a problem for this series.

I really believe this uncertainty is a result of losing the Daniel Jackson character. When he and Carter were always running around, there was this great banter between the two of them that just ignored stereotypes--not only in terms of gender, but also in the ways their friendship shaped plot elements in refreshing ways. Jonas is too nice and too new to SG-1 to have that kind of ease, so he (realistically) hasn't bonded with anyone that way, which makes plotting interesting things that involve him very difficult. The best you can do is to put him by himself at the center of things, which is what I've seen, but I'm sorry--as a longtime fan, I'm much more interested in Teal'c, O'Neill, and Carter, and it's odd to see them all shunted to the side at times.

What I would really like to see is as follows--and you can have these ideas, without any recompense; as a screenwriter, I know the legal acrobatics involved in copyright, and in this case I'd rather have the show doing well than get some measly check that my lawyer would eat right up. Bring Daniel Jackson back starting with Season 7 by having him and Jonas swap places somehow. Jackson becomes a normal, living, limited, human being, and Jonas gets to be the extraplanar spiritual whatever-he-is. He's already got this quiet, otherworldly air to him, which would fit a role shift like that perfectly. If you want to keep the actor around as a regular, maybe it can happen in such a way where he gets partially transformed, but only in minor ways. Maybe the Goa'uld interfere with the process; maybe the Tok'ra promise SG-1 necessary technology and help, but either pull out at the last minute or intentionally double-cross the team. Or all of that, I don't know.

Dr. Daniel Jackson is at the core of the Stargate concept; without him, you have a bunch of characters that are fun, but none of them are as personally invested in the project as Jackson was. And you have a bunch of pretty special effects. Neither of those are going to hold my interest very well. I miss Daniel, and what's more, I think the show as a structure misses him terribly. It's not bad, but it's not as great as it has been and can be again.

I have every faith that MGM, the Sci-Fi Channel, and the writers and producers of the show will work this transition out smoothly--and I have every hope that that solution will involve the return of Michael Shanks and his portrayal of Daniel Jackson.

To whom it may concern,

Hi, i am writing this letter to say that Micheal Shanks should be involved in the Stargate SG-1 movie that they are going to make. I'd like him to be the main character in the show because that's what he deserves. Daniel Jackson should be the leading character because he is the best, and as much as i love the others Micheal Shanks is a fabulous actor! I wish he will come back to the show for good, and no matter what i wish Micheal all the best of luck with his career. I hate it that Daniel Jackson has died and even though the episode has not been screened in Australia yet, i still greive. I really wish that the directors would make Daniel the main character again and not some guy that is only there as a 'psychic guru' or whatever. This show is doomed without Daniel being a main character....and I know no-one wants it to end, so bring back Daniel....

I was deeply saddened when daniel Jackson left SG-1 and I would like to add in my two cents and ask that you write him back into the show. Sg-1 will never be the same without him because he has been there since the begining. Well, please keep the idea open as to bringing him back it would mean a lot to the show's fans.

To Whom It May Concern:

RE: DO THE RIGHT THING - BRING DANIEL JACKSON BACK TO SG-1

One of the reasons my husband and I watch Stargate the series is the movie and it's characters that started it all.

We both were shocked to not see Daniel Jackson in the latest Stargate being shown on the Sci-Fi Channel!

If you think about it, the movie that started it all, centered around Daniel Jackson (with his thirst for knowledge and his innocence and delight in discovering new worlds, peoples and their history)- and Colonel Jack O'Neil (who's sheer bravado and why the hell not attitude) - was the glue that is the core of the Stargate team.

I don't believe there is any question that Daniel has first and foremost always been the soul and heart of the team. He and O'Neil have been through the journey together from the very beginning and should see it through together to the last espisode.

We believe you should bring Daniel Jackson back to SG-1. Jack absolutely misses him, Carter needs him to get her back in certain situations and Teal'c has a deep respect and affection for him which is clearly evident.

Go back to the beginning and look at your characters and listen to them. They were a team and can still be one.

Do The Right Thing - Daniel is sorely needed by SG-1.

Thank you.

Daniel Jackson is one og the most important characters in the show. By taking him out and replacing him, Stargate will lose a lot of viewers, which means ratings go down for whoever is in charge of the whole thing. He was the one who discovered how to work the damn stargate, so taking him out would ruin the whole thing. His interactions with the other characters is great, too. Obviously no one likes his replacement.

My husband and I have watched SG-1 in syndication. He watched the original movie, I did not, even though I would like to. He states that the Jackson character is the only true original from the movie.

Even though we were confused with the new season without Dr. Jackson, we do like it, but it would be good to see Dr. Jackson back.

We recognized Jonas as Jimmy from The Lonegunmen. Also noticed that Beyer's character was in frozen. Coincidence? Jonas is a likeable character, but not very believable. Dr. Jackson has more authority about him.

It is good to know that people who really care about a character are willing to save him. The X-Files never really was the same without Mulder.

I am a big fan of Stargate SG1 and when I found out they were killing Daniel Jackson off the show I thought it must be a joke. How could anyone kill off such an important character. He is the heart of the group. I haven't astually seen the episode yet but I have heard and read a lot about it. Please bring Michael Shanks character Daniel Jackson back. It just won't be the same without him. All the characters on the show are important but the way they interacted made the show so great and by taking one of them away you are taking away from the show. It started with Daniel so it should end with him there. PLEASE bring MICHAEL SHANKS BACK as DANIEL JACKSON. Angline

Never mind the movie. I don't want to see Jonas Quinn in the SHOW. The guy totally creeps me out & I just can't watch now he's in it. Daniel was a good character. I liked the way he interacted with the other characters - especially Jack. It's not the same without him and I really think the writers should get rid of Quinn and bring Daniel back.

I'm writing this letter so that you may know that it is a big mistake to let such a great actor go to waste on your show. Micheal Shanks is a great actor and to let him leave the show the way he did is in other words IT BITES!. I know for sure that I will quit watching the show becase he is the main HEART of the show. I know I'll look forward to seeing any episodes that feature Daniel Jackson but only those episode. I just hope that when the series finale comes that Stargate Sg-1 goes out with a bang and leaves way to a new start for all the actors.

To whom it may concern,

Stargate is a fantastic program and has benn the ONLY reason I have subscrided to showtime for the last 5+years. If the Daniel Jackson character were to be written out of the program, I believe it would be drtrimental to the story, show and cause fanbase desertion. The Jackson character has been central to the story from the beginning and any removal would adversely affect my feelings on the show and the network that called for his removal.

Keep Stargate and the Jackson character alive and you will ensure this loyal viewer for years to come.

I have been watching Stargate since the begining and I really don't like the idea that Daniel Jackson is out. He is a key caracter to the series. He is like the translator between one world and the other. He's the smart guy. Always open to something new. I really do want him back. I understand things change but once you change the base of Stargate it's not the same anymore. The new caracters are doing a good job, but for my opion Daniel Jackson makes a difference. i really wouldlike to see hom back.

WTF are these people thinking. Losing Daniel is like having a pizza with out the cheese. there's nothing to hold it together. kill off this jonas character or make him a Goa'uld, have daniel thrown out or something and stuck back to mortal form. there could be a episode on why he can no longer be one of them. and how he get's back to the sgc. come on people, why don't you just take away the stargate and still try and make it work. BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T how about if we all promise to buy a sg-1 poster from the store??? i can guaren-god-damned-tee that no-one would buy one if you cut out daniels head and stuck jonas's in there.

I have been reading the posts all over the Net about the possible Stargate movie with interest. My first preference would be for a movie starring O'Neill, Jackson, Teal'c and Carter, played (respectively) by RD Anderson, M Shanks, C Judge and A Tapping. I think, going by the posts I've seen, that would be most people's first choice too. The problem seems to be with the 'Jonas Quinn' character. I was surprised by how much I disliked him as I wasn't expecting to and I have liked the actor who plays him in other roles ('The Stand' in particular). However, whatever the cause: a failure on the part of the actor to be convinced by the character, or a failure on the part of the writers to convince *us* with the character, the character just doesn't work. He feels out of place in every episode I have seen so far. I find myself glazing over with boredom when the focus moves onto him in much the same way I did last season when episodes like 'Proving Ground' aired and SG1 were pushed into the background. The strength of the series was always the chemistry between Anderson and Shanks, the chalk-and-cheese dynamic of O'Neill and Jackson. Without that the show feels curiously flat and yet there was no sense of anything missing in the original movie in which only O'Neill and Jackson were involved. This puts me in something of a quandary. My first choice would be the team I have grown to care about over the past few years (including Teal'c and Carter), but if it comes to a choice between the new team (with Jonas Quinn in Daniel Jackson's place) and Jacksonl no longer a member of that team, or a continuation of the story begun in the original movie with the original actors in those roles I am conflicted. I would much rather see Anderson playing O'Neill and Shanks playing Jackson (excellent actors although Russell and Spader are). But I would rather see a movie in which the focus is on O'Neill and Jackson than one in which Jackson is a bit part or even has a major role separate from the others. I actively dislike the episodes in which any core team member is separated from the others (A Hundred Days, The Curse, Bane etc). If Jackson and O'Neill are not together in the movie it won't interest me, I know that from the way my interest in the series waned so dramatically when artificial conflicts and separations were created to keep these characters apart. So, with regret I think I will have to say that if Jonas Quinn is still on the team in the projected Wright/Cooper scripted movie and Daniel Jackson is not, then I would rather see even a Russell/Spader movie. But if the talented writers who script this show could find a way to dispense with the character of Quinn before the movie and re-introduce Daniel Jackson to the team then I'm sure there would be enormous support for the movie fandom-wide. As long as he is on the team and Daniel Jackson is not, however, I think support for the movie will always be muted and somewhat divided.

Just my two cents!

Mmmmmmmm, so Devlin--the original creator of StarGate, would like to do the upcoming MGM movie.

Well, ASSUMING that the script for the movie would still be a follow up to the SG-1 series with the SG-1 Cast: Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, and Chris Judge, I think Mr. Devlin would bring the audience New and Original ideas. And since his ideas are still relatively NEW, in terms of what could be on the other side of the gate, he would bring a FRESH, UNIQUE perspective in scripts to the Stargate audience.

*cough, cough* For some reason, what I just said sounds very familiar to me and like I have heard it before.

Mmmmm, I wonder what the ***JONASS*** I could be thinking of!

What were the guys thinking!?! Daniel is the only member possibly with the exception of Tilk that added a light note of comedy to the show, furthermore my girlfriend is really upset because she kinda fancied him (on that note thankyou I don't need to listen to any more "he's cute" statements) but regardless of that you have removed a valuable and constructive pillar of the series and to make matters worse you did it with the most unbelieveable story I have ever seen on SG, every other thing in the series can be explained to some degree with science, does someone care to explain that one too me? Not to mention that only sub atomic particles are supposed to be able to rematerialialise on the the inside of the iris, does anyone care to explain how an entire organism can be composed of these (I appologise here as I cannot remember the name of the being but I am sure you all know the one I mean that glows, flies and has bright tenticles). Anyway I fealt the need to vent some steam on that, if you have any agreements, disagreements or any comments at all feel free to email me about them. john_smith_scot@yahoo.com

To the powers that be,

The character of Daniel Jackson of the hit show Stargate SG-1 is extremely critical to the shows success. The problems facing the show are a direct result of diverging from its basic concept and the use of Michael Shanks character, Daniel Jackson.

The most exciting and interesting episodes involved Daniel Jackson tying the present time understanding of historical events with the discoveries made by the SG-1 team. It is clear to me the writers are having difficulty creating new story lines by the direction the show has taken over the last 2 seasons. The show has been reduced to a simple good guy versus bad guy scenario with very little creativity. Stargate SG-1 has gone the way of all other SCI-FI shows.

The only way to prevent this wonderful show from an untimely demise is to go back to what made it successful in the first place.

What is it that made it so successful? Discovery of new cultures, planets, societies, etc and the correlation they have to Earth and what the people of Earth understand to be historical fact or myth. Much of the show's success comes from the attempts to explain our own history through what the SG-1 team discovers.

I have rambled enough about what needs to be done, but mark my words, "If Stargate SG-1 does not get back to what made it successful via Daniel Jackson's character and his role as part of the SG-1 team, the show will not see a season 7".

This is not a simple prediction, but a guarantee because without Daniel Jackson and what his character brings to the show, Stargate SG-1 does not offer anything substantially different or better than other SCI-FI shows like "Andromeda".

I know what you're thinking, "Yeah, right. I have heard this before from a fan". That may be true and I could be wrong. However, I watch far more TV than the average person and I would be a director today if I had my way.

So I hope you at least listen to what I have to say because from what I have seen lately, the writing is on the wall. Can you see it? I hope I'm wrong, but without the Daniel Jackson character, I'm afraid Stargate SG-1 will have lost everything worth watching. Remember, Daniel Jackson discovers how the gate works?

Don't do this to the character Daniel Jackson!!! Daniel Jackson is the most important character in the show. It's going to seriously ruin the show if he's gone. Take X-Files for example. Once the show limited Mulder's part the show went to $#@%. And Fox basically "milked" the show for all it's worth until they destroyed it. By the time the last episode came around hardly anyone watched it. If you're going to take out Daniel Jackson then just cancel the show. I hate to see a good show end in a bad way.

Daniel Jackson has been in the show from the start and without him it won't seem right. I'll miss the scenes with Daniel and Jack especially because its a mixture of Daniel's intelligance and Jack's Humour that is a winning combination.

It will be like theres a missing link and the popularity of the show may suffer.

There isn't anyone who can match Daniel Jackson.

I have over 500 cable channels and there is only a handful of programs good enough to watch and Stargate is one of them. Taking Daniel Jackson out of Stargate is like taking Mr. Spock out of Star Trek. The creaters of Stargate have a good thing going don't change it.

Sir,

I have been a fan of SG1 since the first episode. Not because it was a silly show but because of the interaction of the characters in the FAMILY of the team. Without Daniel Jackson this show is still good by certain standards, the inteligence of the content and the dream of the future and being explorers of the infinite. Now the show seems so finite. The chemistry is gone because the chemistry was the interaction of the FOUR members of a very special family thrown together by circumstance and each week, getting to know each other as a person. Daniel Jackson is needed to have the chemistry for the show to continue forever.

Without him, there is a very finite boredom that simply will not go away. Changing characters in MASH worked because of the replacement character. This change in SG1 is not going to work, it simply will not happen. Please, for all that love this show, bring Daniel back and make him more than wallpaper. He started out as mandatory, now he has a few lines here and there. He and Jack need each other like Hawkeye needed BJ. Please, think about what you are doing to the fans that tune in every episode.

You are letting us down, Sir. Very bad move for infinity. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope to see Daniel very soon.

Dear Sirs,

I have always looked forward to watching StarGate. I have the original movie and the 1st year on DVD and looked forward to seeing episodes on Sci-Fi. I missed seeing Daniel on the new programming and went online to try and find out what was going on in the show. I am very disappointed in your decision to cut back on his part and your encouragement in his leaving. He was an essential part of the show to me.

I teach and have even used some of the ideas/questions presented in the show as discussion points in my science class. Daniel was my favorite character on the StarGate Program. He attracted me because he gave balance to the science aspects presented. He illustrated that knowledge of the past is essential to our future.

PLEASE!!! bring Daniel back to the show. Think about the impact of the Indiana Jones movies. People love seeing the archeologist/adventurer. It just is not as interesting without him. While I have watched stargate for many years I would not be interested in watching it without his presence.

the character should stay on the show as it is the heart and soul of the stargate series. as far as i have watched the series, daniel's character is the discoverer and the scientist in the show. without daniel, jack wouldn't be emphasized as the leader of the pack and wouldn't be seen as well as it has been so far.

so, try to keep daniel in the show and motivate him to stay. i am talking about subject of matter and character's feature. as a suggestion, something more about his life and work would be useful and Michael, the man and actor would feel much much better.

thanks for taking into consideration.

Wow! There are a lot of comments about this. I would rather have Daniel stay on as well. I do hope that he comes back in many more episodes but also hope that SG-1 will bring many new and exciting characters to the show as well. That's one of the main reasons I watch the show, there is always new people and new situations and new worlds. I love that! Then they always seem to bring back some of these characters in new episodes with some of the older shows. It's amazing how they juggle it all together. Good luck Daniel! I hope to see you in many more shows. Maybe we will even get to work together when I can finally do some stunts in the show. I believe it is shot mostly in Canada so that makes it difficult for me to network up there.

I will write this in german because I could not write emotions and deep explanations in english very well. So viel Hoffnung... Ist dieser Grund von Michael Shanks wirklich so wichtig, dass er mir wie vielen anderen die Hoffnung nehmen kann?... I hope someone can read german, because I´ve never before written about my feelings. I´ve cried many tears and they still come out when I think about the end... but I still fight and I hope I´ll be not the only one.

Dear MGM:

I wish to add my expression of disappointment to the removal of Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1. It would have been a different matter if Michael Shanks had left for other reasons than those that have recently come to light. As an actor, it is understood that the person may wish to move in a different direction and leave amicably from the show. Such a situation is saddening, but understandable. However, by all accounts this is not the same set of circumstances that face Michael Shanks. As Daniel Jackson is one of the two main characters from the original Stargate movie, it is not such an unreasonable request that the character have a significant part to play in the Stargate universe. However, the role of Daniel Jackson was increasingly being pushed to the side, eventually leading to Michael Shank's decision to leave Stargate SG-1. The important thing to realise is that Michael Shanks still is willing to play the role of Daniel Jackson, and I for one support this wish. The Stargate SG-1 universe is much, *much* poorer with his exclusion. Michael Shanks played an extremely likeable and important character in each viewer's mind, and these views are *not* the views of a minority of people. The complete package of Daniel, Jack, Sam and Teal'c is essential to the very lifeblood of Stargate SG-1. Please listen to the many requests of the many fans of this excellent show, and re-instate Daniel Jackson as the second-most important character in Stargate SG-1.

I am very sad to see Daniel go - in my eyes he is a main character and it is great to see a very educated (nerd type) personna in Stargate. I feel the slight tension between Jackson and O'Neill made the episodes much more interesting - I like both characters very much and would be saddened to see either cut or minimized from the show. It changes the whole atmosphere of the show. O'Neill's character should not be minimized either - he is a main character. I love the dry wit and humor each of the characters brings to their part - please don't get rid of any of them.

Dear MGM/SCIFI:

I must say that I am very unhappy with the "new" and "improved" Stargate SG-1. I have tried to watch the new season 6 episodes but without Daniel, the magic appears to be gone. Friday nights used to be my night for television, mainly watching SG-1. I looked forward to seeing what new adventures awaited my favorite character (Daniel). Now, all there is on Friday night is a mediocre version of SG-1 with an imposter trying to replace Daniel. It just doesn't work for me. I love Jack, Sam & Teal'c but it's not the same without the fourth member of the team. Please bring back Michael Shanks with his wonderful protrayal of Dr. Daniel Jackson.

To Whomever it may concern; If anyone;

I am sooo in love with Daniel Jackson. I know his character is fictional; But I, whole heartedly, believe that this world, we live in, would be a better place if there were more people here with the same convictions as his. I admire Michael Shanks for giving such a believable portrayal of the Daniel Jackson character. I am sad that Daniel will not be in season 6. He will be greatly missed. But; Mr. Shanks, I know you have a real life. And, in the real world, you did what you felt you had to do. So hey; I'm not mad at you. I am grateful that you stuck around for five seasons. Considering that you once said that get bored easily. So thank you for hanging around as long as you did. It has been a pleasure for us all. For you; I must be happy. (Real World.) Good luck in all your future endeavors.

But for Daniel; I am deeply sadden. And I must find a way to get over it... Oops! We are in the real world. Where it does not matter how I feel or about what I think. So I am through with watching SG1.

Sincerely

Please let BW write the next SG film. I really like the SG1 series.I liked the original film. However for me the film has moved on. I would also like DJ to be in it. Please let all the main actors play a part. FOR ME STARGATE is about all of them. Jack, Daniel, Sam, Teal'c etc.

Thank you.

Dear MGM--

What is with the frenetic pace of the background players on your new and fresh episodes? Are you so afraid that we'll notice that there's nothing going on in the foreground--you know, with the ACTORS, PLOT and STORYLINE--that you have a cast of thousands running around in the background, designed to make viewers think that Important Things must be happening?

Guess what? It's not working.

Without Daniel Jackson, I've lost interest. No amount of production shortcuts are going to change my mind. No explosions, no busy background, no smarmy smirking substitute characters. And not the rest of the cast going through the moves with no conviction or passion, either. Nothing.

What will bring me back to your fold is simply--Daniel Jackson. Alive. Functioning. Interacting with his team mates and family. Oh, I'll watch the glowing light Daniel episode, but if you want my support for the show--and, consequently, for ANY MGM/Gekko/Kawoosh productions--I want the character that brought me to the show in the first place.

Daniel. Alive.

Thank you, Jess

MGM

Whereas i understand that by removing another wage to pay leaves more in your back pocket and i understand that begging for integrity/consideration/artistic values or even effort on your part is both laughable an unlikely, however, please be aware that your show is watched and enjoyed by thousands DUE to the dynamics of the cast/characters and removing Daniel will be like Sonny and no Cher, Ike and no Tina, you get the idea? Take advice, swallow your pride, we know you were wrong to let one of the most developed characters leave and we will look away if you want to apologise, its never too late to save a good show. If you choose not to, thank you for your previous efforts and bye bye ratings:)

Dear MGM,

I love the original Stargate movie. I love the first three seasons of the series. I love James Spader. I love Michael Shanks. I would be happy to see *any* Stargate movie played by either actor in which Daniel has the lead role he ought to have. The Stargate story was always Daniel's story and for me it was pointless going on without him. I’d watch a movie which treated the character with respect and where he didn't have to play second fiddle to inferior characters created by inferior writers and played by an inferior actor. I don't care if you make a movie that follows on from the show or one that follows on from the original movie, I just don't want to see Jonas Quinn on any screen: television or theater. The character I fell in love with was Daniel Jackson. Any movie that isn't primarily about the journey of Daniel Jackson doesn't interest me. Any movie that is would. I don't care what the names of the people are who write it or who is producing it. Devlin and Emmerich or Wright and Cooper; if you focus on Daniel I'll watch your movie, if you focus on lesser characters, I won't. For me it's as simple as that.

Thank you for listening,

Mr. Cohen, According to the website "SaveDanielJackson.com," Michael Shanks as Dr. Daniel Jackson is to be written out of the serries. He is part of the successful unit you have in SG-1 -- to remove him would diminish the "Good mix" of commraderie that has been established. Do what you need to keep the group together; for the continued success of the serries.

Dear Producers,

Bring the character of Daniel back to Stargate SG-1!

The subtle interplay of humor and philosophy between Daniel and other characters is a rare treasure in current television shows, which mostly lack artful writing and interesting character development. His character is the perfect foil for militaristic and intellectually simplistic Colonel O'Neil, and Michael Shanks is the perfect actor to fill this role. His body language and delivery of his lines is superb for Daniel's purpose on the SG-1 team.

Talented writers could easily weave Daniel back into the show and develop him more fully, in a way that the two new characters never could be.

Please, please bring the magic of Michael Shanks back to the show! Episodes without him DO NOT sparkle like the TV gems they are when he is in them.

To whom it may concern.

I have been addicted to your show Stargate SG1 and found it the one occurance where a show could be better then the movie it is based on. But I really dont like your decision to get rid of Daniel Jackson. I dont know why you feel it is a good idea to mess with a working formula. The chemistry of the characters is ideal. They play off of one another superbly. Furthermore, Daniel is one of the original characters, including O'Neal. He should remain with the program through its life span. You are foolish to believe that his importance to the show is so little that you can just get rid of him. I for one have a hard time with the idea of him being replaced just like that.

Dear Sirs,

I would like to be brief and to the point in this letter. I have to admit that 'Daniel' character of the SG1 is adding an extra personality to the SG1 team. In simple words as SG1 team can't accept the change of 'Jack O'Neill' as the leader of the team. We fans can't accept the change of 'Daniel' as the historian/archeologist of the team.

PS. I hope my words were clear enough even though English is not my natural language.

i really would like to see daniel jackson return to the show. it just isn't the same without him and jonas is not a good replacement. i have nothing against him, but let's face it he will never be able to replace daniel jackson. daniel has such a deep bond and good chemistry with all of the other members of sg-1. especially with jack even though jack doesn't like to admit it through the years he has really developed an attachment and a great deal of respect for daniel. daniel makes the show worth watching, the only reason i continue to watch is because of my hope that daniel will return. i was really quite frustrated when he was killed off a few weeks ago. so please bring him back, he makes the show.

I've been watching the show in syndacation here, and while we are only in season four, I have kept up with season five thanks to friends in England. I was very unhappy to hear that Michael Shanks had left at the end of season five.

Even though I haven't seen that season yet, I still decided to watch when season six debuted on Sci Fi. I am very disappointed in what I've seen so far. I don't like this new person at all, he's creepy and too ingratiating. I don't trust him at all, and he shouldn't be taking Daniel's place.

I'm going to stop watching this season, stick with syndacation, and forget Daniel even left. To me, season six is a non-entity. I wish you hadn't messed things up-- seasons one, two and most of three were excellent. I'm sorry someone lost the vision.

At the end of this third new episode, I finally realised what was wrong with the show: No Daniel. Aside from reduntant plots and bad writing, that is. The final scene between Jack and Jonas was such a contrived scene. In the four episodes that I've seen with Jonas in them, you've failed to convince me that he is either a good replacement for Daniel, or deserving to be on SG1.

The episodes so far this season have been boring, lifeless and full of cliches. I'm hanging on till Abyss airs simply becuase I want to see if Daniel really does make a difference in the show, or if it really is just bad writing.

I'm sorry to see Stargate degenerate to such boring blandness. The first few seasons were so excellent!

This letter is going out to TPTB:

I was so disgusted by the end of "Descent" that I could hardly stand it. Once again, Jonas SuperAlien saves the day. Reading the spoilers over on Gateworld, I can see that this is going to be an ongoing theme for the remainder of the season.

I was willing to give you a chance after Michael Shanks left; stars leave shows all the time and that doesn't always spell doom. Unfortunately, in this case, doom is spelled J O N A S. If you HAD to replace Daniel, why do it with someone who is a very poor clone of the original? If you could spend the time developing this new idiot, why couldn't you spend the time developing decent storylines for Daniel WITH the rest of the team?

I can't stand Jonas. I don't care to watch the rest of the series, or the movie, and if he's the one who is going to be in your spin-off... Forget it.

There's something missing in the show now that Daniel is no longer part of it. I don't know what it is, but Jonas simply makes it worse.

I heard from one of my American friends that MGM have got rid of Daniel!!!!!!!!!

The show will not be the same without him. The chemistry between him and Jack is delightful to watch and gives the show its comic relief. I can't believe the decision to get rid of him and that MGM did not consider the effect that it would have on SG1 fans.

Please reinstate Michael to the show even just as a secondary character. It would be better than nothing!

To whom it may concern,

I used to be an avid fan of the show Stargate SG-1 but when Michael Shanks leaves the show (we are behind in episodes in Australia) I will no longer be watching it. I have been noticing in the last two seasons a real lack of decent storylines concerning my favourite character, Daniel Jackson, and I'm glad I'm not the only one. Sometimes he didn't even appear in an episode which really annoyed me.

However what I find really disappointing is the fact that MGM doesn't seem to care. Surely they must realise that they will lose an enormous portion of their audience. I hope that this letter along with the many others that are being sent will show those in power that Daniel Jackson is and always will be the heart of the show. He was after all the main character in the movie.

Sincerely

Stargate. The name alone brings many great memories an is a great conversation piece. I'm talking about the movie that came out so long ago, not the series. To me they are totally different things. The second and third parts are really going to make you (MGM) a whole lot of money if you make them. You would be uniting two different groups of people (movie fans and series fans) to theaters and promoting sales for the original. This years biggest movies have not been great movies but I've still seen Spider-Man and Star Wars numerous times each. Even Scooby-Doo has made a lot of money and it probably isn't that good. They all have in common the fact that they were known before there were conceived. There have been eight years of expectations builing for the sequels. If not for the fans, do it for the money. It's a guaranteed money maker. If not for us, then just think of it as income. Please, please make these movies. Thank you.

Dear Messrs. Cohen and Wright, and Ms. Hammer,

I am writing to ask you to please bring back Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson on Stargate SG-1. I do not have Showtime, so I watch it on our local Channel 2 as well as the repeats on Sunday nights (early Monday mornings). I have not as yet seen the show Meridian which is supposedly the last SG-1 show with Michael Shanks. All I know is that when I went to watch it on the Sci-Fi Network, I almost fell off the couch! I was in shock! I didn't understand what happened to my gorgeous Michael Shanks! The four main characters are like the fingers on one hand, next to the thumb, which is me! You took away one of my fingers and replaced it with a plasic finger. Sorry, and nothing personal against your new character (who, by the way, will ALWAYS be from The Shining [to me]) but nobody, and I mean nobody, can or ever will replace Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson. The show without Michael Shanks just isn't Stargate SG-1 any more. It is a copy - a Xerox - but made on an inferior machine. Please return SG-1 to the original show with Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson on a regular basis.

I miss Michael Shanks as Dr. Jackson! Please bring him back! He did a much better job than James Spader, who I didn't like very much in the original movie, and I've come to enjoy Mr. Shanks chemistry with Richard Dean Anderson's O'Neil character very much. I just love the way they needle each other all the time.

Stargate SG-1 will no longer be a "HIT" show without Daniel Jackson. The producers and MGM has made a major mistake in replacing him. The show is not only boring but out of place without Daniel. The team should have remained the same for it's whole duration. I have never seen a cast that showed so much love and care to their character, breaking them up places a void in the stargate. If you really want your show to continue.....you WILL bring back Daniel. As everybody knows a divorce for a family is tragic to everyone, taking Daniel away is the same difference. In closing remember....the fans are the ones to keep your show alive!! You piss of the fans you lose money and a number one Sci-fi show. I think everyone will agree with me when I say. Start thinking smarter and put Daniel back in the "main" script where he belongs.

Stargate SG-1 is actually my favorite TV show and I loved the curious, humanitarian and ethical views of Dr. Daniel Jackson. His chemistry with the other 3 main characters is something that cannot be replaced. They were perfect together. The new episodes are dry and uncharismatic without him. :o( Please bring him back!

To begin with Stargate is my favorite show. I do not miss an episode. The reason we selected Showtime for our movie package was so we could watch Stargate. Now that Stargate is on Sci-Fi we are still watching. The chemistry between the SG1 crew has been perfect. Now without Daniel Jackson it is just not the same.

I told my husband during last night's show that it just isn't the same without Daniel - as I would feel about any of the originals not being on the show - and I really didn't care if I watched it anymore or not. The new SG1 member just doesn't replace Daniel.

So PLEASE bring back Daniel Jackson - Keep the SG1 crew intact. There is nothing worse than having a show be soooooo good and then changing the characters.

Thanks.... The Nelsons

Dear Mr. Wright,

The departure of "Dr Jackson" will be a loss for the show. The interplay between Jackson and COL O'Neill is too good to give up. Also, to avoid the total military outlook of the show, you need to show some form of scientific endeavor being realized from the Stargate project itself and which Dr Jackson was able to provide. Please write him back into the show with a larger role. The show will not be the same without him.

Thank you,

I am a typical forty-year-old American working six days a week with a wife, two kids, mortgage, car payments etcetera plus all the daily stresses that go along with all of this.

It isn’t often that I come across a television series like Stargate SG-1, and the chemistry that the crew beings to this show; not to mention the concept of having a network of worm holes throughout the galaxy with the need to acquire technology to defend mankind covertly “Very Cool”.

I gear my Friday nights toward SG-1, and this might seem to be a little overboard, but while I am watching Stargate SG-1 I’m not thinking of work, or any of the typical daily stresses of life, ostensibly I’m on vacation.

As far as I’m concerned, and it appears that many others feel the same way, Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) brings an intrinsically profound value to Stargate SG-1 that cannot be recovered without him.

My hope is that since there still appears to be a dialog between MGM and Michael Shanks that some common sense will prevail on the part of MGM.

Executive Producer Brad Wright Should keep his mouth shut when it comes to talking to the disenchanted Michael Shanks fans if he hopes to maintain Stargate SG-1 viewer ship.

“Brad you’re a great producer, but put a cork in it PLEASE” !!!!!!!!!!

There are so few shows on television that are really done well. When you get one, like Stargate, you wait until the day it is on with anticipation. Even though I still watch Stargate, there is something missing. Daniel Jackson brought a warmth to the show. Not only is he handsome, but his love for history and the "ancient ones" comes through in each show. There was a perfect balance with the kind of characters portrayed on the show. Dean Anderson was the go-do kind of guy that got things done by his gut feeling and his patriotism. Sam was the book smart individual who was able to handle the electronic and scientific parts of the missions. Telk was the individual who knew all about the people who were threatening our civilization. Daniel was the intellectual whose studies provided insight into these alien beings through studies of ancients. By Daniel leaving, the balance is upset. Are we going to have another cop show? Or can we have back the most interesting show that has been on television for years?

Whatever the reason is/was for Daniel/Michael not being on Stargate SG-1 and our original team being fractured I cannot watch the show as it is.

My family and I watched the movie "Independence Day" on FX last night from 9 to 11 pm instead of Stargate SG-1 on SciFi.

To those who watched Stargate SG-1, I am happy for you that you can still enjoy it. We can't.

I am looking forward to Abyss and any episodes that have our original team (and the original actors) back together.

Sad to not have Stargate SG-1 any longer,

I remember when I saw the movie many years ago in Oregon and left feeling so much more should have been told. I felt a little cheated or short-changed. When ShowTime first aired SG-1 I watched with skepticism, as these adaptations are usually poor. I was pleasantly surprised at the cast and the writing and became an avid follower. Since that time I found the chemistry of the characters and the story line to be very interesting and enjoyable to watch, much more so than the original theatrical release.

While the Daniel Jackson dismissal is not going to cause me to lose sleep, I do find the way MGM is handling the situation to be *severely* lacking in professional tact. It's sad that the studio looks upon the fanatics of the show as freaks. Is it not desirable to have many adoring fans? To go as far as trying to sabotage the site with fictitious posts is really pathetic - it's not like the fans are your customers right? (Sarcasm intended) It's obvious that a few dickheads at MGM have decided to show how clever and smart they are and will re-tool the show to meet some formula a geek in the basement with a database says will up their ratings a few points. Yes MGM, I know you are reading, your popularity appears to have Titanic inscribed on its bow. Start the bucket brigade now.

It's obvious where the new priorities are so rather than watch the slow demise of the show, I will leave now - feeling a little cheated, again.

And thus sinketh the good ship "Stargate." I gave you three chances, the first three episodes of your new season, and I'm sorry to say: three strikes and you're out. This third episode was by far the worst of the season so far. The plot holes were so large Jonas swam right through them. It was ludicrous. Once again Jonas saves the day. What a crock.

Bring Daniel back, get the original team back together and give us stories that deal with mythology and other planets, the way Stargate is supposed to be.

Dear MGM: The character of Dr. Daniel Jackson in the series Stargate SG1 gave depth and dimension to the entire series. He was the 'glue' that kept this mission together and the spiritual force and understanding that made many of their missions worthwhile. As a writer I was shocked at his demise, although it was done extremely well.

I hope you will reinstate this character in some way; I know it wouldn't be easy or plausible, but I hope it can be done. I like the new character that takes his place, but Dr. Daniel Jackson is really 'one of a kind'. PLEASE, bring him back to us somehow!

To whom it may concern: I am a big fan of the show and of course the original motion picture. I am quite upset by the sudden and unnecessary departure of Michael Shanks' character Dr.Daniel Jackson. The episodes since his write off are lacking. The SG-1 team is not a team without the presence of Jackson. Stargate without Dr.Jackson is a show not worth watching.

To whom it may concern:

I have been watching SG1 for some time now on the network reruns since I do not have any of the expanded channels. Daniel is without a doubt my #1 favorite character.

This is not really due to any outstanding acting on his part, though he IS an outstanding actor, it is the character itself that is so important.

Daniel IS Stargate, without him there would never have been a Stargate, no movie, no series, no franchise. Without Daniel there is no real reason for me to even watch the show. He is what it is all about.

I am, at this very moment, watching the first new episode on the Sci-fi channel, and to say I was surprised and shocked at the non-appearance of Daniel is to put it to mildly.

Bring him back, I am not and will not be content with "guest appearences" of this character. Once every 5 or 6 episodes just won't do it. Bring him back, full time and with respect or don't bring him back at all and watch the entire series die. I have no doubt this series will not survive without the heart and soul of it's very existance.

Thank you,

All that I have to say is that the ONLY reason I watch Stargate is because of Daniel. I'm on my way to earn my college degree in archeology, and I think the role of Daniel is one of the most important ones, he was the one who figured everything out for God's sake! It's very rare for Hollywood to involve archeology in stuff that actually makes sense; and I ask...what is going to happen when they find another world with an unknown language or something like that? or when they depend in an archeological find to figure something out? And besides, together with coronel O'Neil, he is the comic relief of the series, I have also studied fimlatography, and I just couldn't picture Stargate without Daniel Jackson. I only have one request, bring him back.

To whom it may concern,

10 minutes ago, I was eagerly awaiting the first episode of the new SG-1 season. Even though I hadn't seen Daniel in the teasers, it did not for a second occur to me that he was not in the series.

This show has always been mine and my husband's favorite. We made ourselves comfortable, sat and waited for it to start. Finally the moment came. And then, little by little as the clock ticked on it slowly started dawning on me that Daniel was not going to appear. And then the credits rolled by and confirmed our worst fears.

Daniel is the heart of SG-1. The 4 are a unit, a body working together. How can such a vital part have been so callously cut off and discarded?? I couldn't watch any longer. It showing inside right now and I am missing it because I just had to log on to the internet and find out where Daniel was, what had happened and whether or not he was coming back.

Please, PLEASE give us something to look forward to. Let us know that we can expect to see him, that SG-1 can be made whole again. Right now, I don't feel like watching it. I am so disappointed. Bring Daniel back, we need him, the show needs him.

Thank you,

In Australia we are a little behind the rest of the planet when it comes to the latest episode of Stargate. I have just read that "Daniel Jackson" is no longer in the show. If this is true then the person responsible should be sacked. Daniel is and always will be a part of SG1 and if you lose him, the show will die a slow death.

Dear Stargate Folks,

You are going to blow it if you let Michael Shanks and his very well-acted character of Daniel disappear from this wonderful show. We want to see the level-headed humaness come up against the militariness when their ideals collide. You can't have a show with a bunch of military gung-hos shooting up everything first, then asking questions later.

We got Showtime specifically to see Stargate.

We have recorded every episode, and watch them all the time. We have purchased the DVD's as they become available. We love this show just the way it was.

Come on you guys . . .

Surely you haven't forgotten how to write good stories . . .

Good luck, you're going to need it if you let this central character go. We do not want a replacement for Daniel.

MGM are seriously making a mess of a great storyline... the original Stargate movies was one of the greatest Science-Fiction movies of all time. It was extremely original, great casting and a very solid storyline.

I had always dreamed of seeing a sequel to it but then when the series came out I had to be satisfied with that instead. The series is just barely acceptable now after starting strongly and now I hardly watch it at all. If a movie sequel movie was made I for one would pay to go and see it atleast twice.

Thanks for your time now please make the sequel.

I wish Daniel would return. He is my favorite character. He is always so passionate about what he's doing. Whether he's fighting the bad guys or just digging up an artifact. Without him there is a hole that may never be filled. Don't get me wrong. I like the whole team. It just seems that they lost something when he left. Sincerely,

To whom it should concern regarding Stargate SG-1,

I was very disappointed to learn of the writing out of the character Daniel Jackson. While I understand that on the surface the story line has eliminated the udefulness of his character, it was his character, both in the original movie and the ensuing series Stargate SG-1 that made the story compelling in the first place. I realize that Richard Dean Anderson is considered a "big star" likewise Kurt Russell was billed first in the movie, this does not negate the fact that James Spader and Michael Shanks were the central actors that made the story worth watching. Michael Shanks has done an excellent job of portraying Daniel Jackson, and deserves a leading role in the series. I think most loyal fans of the movie and series would agree that writing him out of the series is a serious mistake. The biggest disappointment is going to be when the series is cancelled because of all the fans you have alienated by not listening. Please reconsider the current course of the show.

To Whom It May Concern: I do not understand why the character of Daniel was deleted from Stargate SG1. The character is an original from the film -- an integral part of the whole premise. Mr. Shanks is a fine actor. Certainly, the new character offers no value to the story line. I have been a loyal Stargate Viewer since its inception on Showtime. I hope that this decision does not reflect a "dumming down" of the show now that it has transfered to the SciFi channel. Please bring the character of Daniel back with Mr. Shanks in that role.

Not having Showtime, I had lost track of the first run episodes of Stargate SG-1. It was always a favorite of mine and I watch the syndicated episodes regularly. So I was very excited to hear SG-1 was going to be on Sci-Fi. Until I discovered Michael Shanks was gone... Daniel Jackson was one of my favorite characters as well as an original one! How can you do SG-1 without him?!!! Bring Daniel Back! Then maybe I will watch the Sci-Fi episodes, because I doubt I will without him!

I was excited to see a few years ago that one of my favourite movies was to be converted into a television series. As i watched the first few episodes, i was thrilled to see great story lines, great cast, and superb SFX. But as the first series went on i lost track of Stargate SG1 until yesterday. After purchasing Independance Day Special Edition DVD, i recieved a free disc containing the final episode of season 4 ' Exodus' plus other footage and previews of the fourthcoming season for the UK, season 5. Immediatley i was back into it, and now i am a fan of stargate sg1. So after surfing the net to find Daniel is written out of the show is a complete outrage to fans accross the globe. So three simple words from me, Bring Daniel Back. Good luck to this campeign and to all the other dedicated fans accross the globe. I myself am a dedicated fan of sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf, but i will support Stargate SG1 to the end. So im off out to buy the DVD's, Good luck guys.

I'm from Australia, and I have only just heard that Daniel Jackson is no longer going to be in the show and is being replaced by someone else. All I can say is how long did the X-files last after Mulder was replayed by another agent??? Not long I can tell you that, as soon as I heard that Mulder was leaving, then he left, I never watched the show again. I am affraid that this may be the case with SG-1, as not many movies that turn into shows kill off one of the main characters. And loosing Daniel will detract from the historical side of SG-1. I would have to say it's the main reson why I watch stargate, I love ancient Egyptian history (I lie here, I love all ancient history) and that's exactially what Daniel brings to the show, he brings out earth's history in such detail and passion, you actually believe that the race he's talking about was actually taken to another planet or that this certain Goa'uld was a god in ancient Egypt. I think that loosing Daniel Jackson, looses the whole historic approach that the show has. I tell everyone who critizises stargate how wonderful it is with is history and how you make sure that it's not just made up sort of stuff that a lot of other shows do, you incorperate history to science fiction like the two belong together. Please keep Daniel Jackson as our favorite archeologist, he completes the SG-1 team.

I would love to see Dr. Daniel Jackson return. I really enjoyed his character and I think he added a wonderful part to the team and potential to the script from his mere character. I especially enjoyed the 4th season episode: Absolute Power which I think without the character of Dr. Daniel Jackson really wouldn't have been a feasible episode, but with his character it playing the chief roll, it is one of my favorite episodes! Michael Shanks' character is an integral part of SG1 and to write him out of the show is to cut out a little bit of it's soul. The show has changed alot since his departure and it isn't for the better, but this doesn't have to be permanent. I realise that it was his decision to leave the show but in not trying to convince him to stay, or giving him some incentive to do so, it was equally the producers'.Bring Daniel back, he was a great part of the show and my favourite character. Give him a call, make an offer, apologise- he will return.

TO The Producers and all People concerned with casting for STARGATE SG-1

I would like to express my opinion that Stargate SG-1 as a television show was made so much more entertaining and involving with Michael Shanks' character Daniel Jackson. I have followed Stargate SG-1 since it's first episode and can't begin to understand why you would kill off such an integral character to the show.

As a fan of your show I'm making an express request that you bring him back. The series isn't the same without one of its core and pivotal characters. With a move like this you alienate those people who are dedicated fans to the show and ruin its overall entertainment value.

I realize there is very little chance this letter will even be read, but short of bitch-slapping all of you on the street I don't believe there is much more in my capacity to change your mind.

I have been an SG1 fan since it came out. Daniel can't leave. If this is the actor's decision that's one thing, but call him, give him more $$ whatever it takes. SG1 has a great chemistry. Someone new for just one season doesn't make sense.

I was shocked and surprised to see that the character of Daniel Jackson has been, in effect, done away with. The character is CENTRAL to the show and the story. Over the years, I have watched the character and the show grow together. It is not the same show anymore. And I am no longer interested in watching it. I used to shut my husband out for the 45 minutes the show was on every Friday. Now it doens't even really hold my interest. Thanks for ruining another perfectly good TV show. Guess I can cancel my cable subscrition now.

Hi everyone,

What can I say. Its very unfortunate that this is happening to Stargate SG1 as I feel daniel jackson inspires many of whom watches the program, likewise with the other three people, carter, jack and teilk.

I understand that some people need to take time out during their lives and need some time for themselves, yet they do come back so may be in the heart of the people who direct Stargate sg1, maybe reconsider daniel coming back into the series.

If however daniel (Micheal) would likely be coming to Glastonbury, England I would like to meet him. There is much I would like to talk to him about.

I wish Stargate SG1 a lot of success as I do support you all very much,

Yours truly

I just wanted to lend my voice to those that have already done so in an effort to bring back Michael Shanks.

I am a 32 year old professional in the computer industry and I watch very little television. But one show I have TiVo record religiously is SG-1. Yes, I am a sci-fi fan. But what has made me stay with SG-1 for several years now is the high-quality acting and believability of the characters. The writing and the acting has been extremely good. My favorite actor on the show (and they are all very good) is Mr. Shanks. Despite the fact that Mr. Shanks did not play Daniel Jackson in the original motion picture, to me, he IS Daniel Jackson.

Daniel Jackson's character has seen a marked decrease in his importance to the show from a writing perspective over the last two seasons. Mr. Shanks is an amazing actor and Daniel Jackson is a very interesting character. The fact that the combination of these characteristics couldn't be more effectively utilized is very perplexing to me.

I watched the start of season six with the Daniel Jackson replacement character and must confess it left me very cold. It just didn't seem right. Mr. Shanks was the lifeblood of the show -- but unfortunately MGM and the writers of SG-1 failed to realize that.

But there is still time to undo the damage and makes things right. And to give fans (you remember, the people that watch the shows and the advertisements aired with those shows?) what they want. Forget about me. Forget about the fans. Do yourself a big favor that will help your bottom line and your ratings: bring Mr. Shanks and the Daniel Jackson character back. And then do what really should have been done before: give the character a larger role and more Daniel Jackson-centered or co-centered episodes. Certainly much more interesting than the ongoing babble about the NID. Leave that stuff to the X-Files folks. You've got great actors and a great basic storyline that is full of life. Use that.

To Mr. Brad Wright, Mr. Hank Cohen, and Ms. Bonnie Hammer:

I am writing to urge you to bring Michael Shanks back as Dr. Daniel Jackson. My family and I began watching Stargate because of Mr. Shanks' portrayal of Daniel and for the chemistry of all the actors. This group has been one of the best ensembles in television at present, especially when they're all given equal opportunities to contribute to the storylines, but without Mr. Shanks and his subtle and beautiful portrayal of Daniel, that feeling is lost.

I understand that Mr. Shanks' reason for leaving was because of a change in the manner in which the character of Daniel Jackson was often being written. I must say I had also noticed a change in the balance of the ensemble which had decreased my enjoyment of some of the fifth season episodes. My younger son even asked me, "Mom, why doesn't Daniel do as much as he used to?"

My children, my husband, and I have continued to watch the show since the demise of Daniel's character, but the addition of the new character to "replace" Daniel was very unsettling, and it did not seem to be the same "welcome place" to us as before. I do not know if we will continue to watch if Daniel does not return for more than just the "Abyss" episode.

Our hopes were high when we understood that "Stargate" was going on for another season, and moving to the SciFi channel. I felt that the science fiction and interpersonal aspects of the show would really be brought to the fore, but the abrupt and seemingly casual severance of Daniel's character takes all the enjoyment of those possibilities for us. And a new Stargate movie without the charater of Daniel -- the character that made the Stargate work -- would not work for us at all.

Please bring back Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson! Our hopes go out to you in this decision. We truly want to continue to watch the show, but we're finding it too hard without the balance of SG-1. We would appreciate your consideration of the feelings of your loyal viewers.

Thank you for your attention,

Melanie Phillips

To Whom It May Concern: As it seems with so many other devoted Stargate Sg-1 fans, I have been surprised and saddened by the recent discovery while watching the new season that there is no Daniel Jackson to be seen. After reading interviews, opinions, and developments on the subject I have taken the time to express my desire to have my favorite member returned to the show and I hope you will also take the time to read, reflect, and act on this and the many more letters and calls that have undoubtedly come your way as a result of Michael Shanks' absence.

I am not privy to the particulars of the disagreements, but it would seem a solution can and should be found that will result in the return of the heart of the show. The character of Daniel Jackson fueled and propelled the original movie. Michael Shanks and the writers have developed that character into a beloved icon representing human morality, intelligence, tolerance, open-mindedness; the heart of the team. The character Dr. Jackson discovered and began stargate travel and should not be tossed aside as unneeded or unimportant.

I agree with Michael Shanks that other characters have been given more camera time and development recently and while that is all well and good, a writer should always be imaginative and know there are no bounds; a great storyteller can work with anything. Make it work. Jackson's story did not end in the movie, or with Shari's death, or with meeting the Harsisis, Chifu. His story should continue, his path and character should evolve.

I thank you for your time and consideration in this matter and look forward to a creative solution to the disagreements so as to enjoy Michael Shanks/ Daniel Jackson's return to the cast of Stargate SG-1.
