Thought of the Day for TPTB

"There is no hate here.  Only frustration."  By Marla

There is frustration at the loss of something we think valuable..ie the team as it was first introduced to us, the concept from the original movie that the story was formost about Jack & Daniel's journey together.  Frustration over the loss of good writing and intelligent scripting of stories/creation of guest characters.

There is considerable frustration over the fact that we lost an excellent character and actor because he was as dismayed by the negative changes in the show as we are. Frustration regarding finding out how hard this talented actor fought to try and get his writers, producers and higher ups to notice them too.

There is complete and utter outrage that instead of listening to their audience and this man who was on the inside and closer to the changes then we ever were, they chose to let him slip away.

There is unhappiness and vast uneasiness with the concept of the character of Jonas Quinn. He is too much the *easy fix* like putting the skimpy doughnut spare tire on your car after a blow-out and expecting it to grow into a *real* tire and not affect the balance of the car.

Yes, there are some of us who just down right don't like the type of character that Jonas is. We liked Daniel for specific reasons that had nothing to do with *handsome hunk* or *big name* status. Jonas could be played by Tom Cruise and if he were like the character was in Meridian he would still not be the kind of character we want to be interested in.

But hate for Corin Nemec...no. In fact I have gotten very nice messages from his assistant because I sent him a note saying I  understood he was not to blame for this issue and I wished him well in his new venture.

[SDJ: Marla is *far* from the only SDJ campaigner to send a message of support to actor Corin Nemec.]

Like only Daniel/Michael and nothing else? Think that the show and the other characters are just there to create background for Daniel Jackson? That the show should be/is all about him?

NO! That would be boring..at least to me.

Alot of us here are big RDA fans who really liked Jack O'Neill in the first 3 seasons<and yes his interaction with Daniel as well>, but now suffer from disappointment over how the character has changed.  Lots of us admire Sam Carter as an intelligent role model for woman and as an interesting character in her own right. Many of us are drawn to the nobility and mystery of Teal'c. And many of us are simply fans of the whole concept Stargate:SG1 as it was presented to us five years ago. We were captivated by it for many reasons.

I think that MGM and the production crew's biggest frustration is they simply cannot understand why we don't want to give the 6th season a chance...why we are so upset about the loss of Daniel that we can't give Jonas Quinn the benefit of the doubt and a chance to *prove* himself. They can't understand what seems to their way of thinking is our *sudden* disloyality to the show over the loss of one character.

However, thing that eludes the production people and MGM execs the most is the fact that it ISN'T something that *suddenly* happened to us and more to the point they can't seem to grasp the concept that the loss of Daniel/Michael WASN'T the only event to cause this. What they don't understand, is it has been happening for the past two years...building slowly with at first minor complaints from viewers that eventually kept being repeated more loudly and by more and more of us as the same problems kept happening within the creative aspect of SG1. That they just kept shutting their ears to the outcries and instead focusing on the voices of those who didn't complain, those who watched anything put in front of them and praised them for it.

They can't seem to grasp the reality that we aren't willing to give season six and Jonas Quinn the benefit of *wait and see* BECAUSE we ran out of patience for that by speding our time watching season 4 & 5 *waiting and seeing* if things would get better.  Slowly it dawned on us that the more we were willing to *wait and see* the more the writers and producers felt they could slough off the issues that made us unhappy and just continue on their merry way.

And like any insidious illness you ignore, suddenly you  may find you are confronted with catastrophic systems failure as the *body* can no longer sustain the the damage to it. Losing Daniel/ Michael was like the show having massive *heart* failure.

We have frustration because their plan to counter this is however to give is to simply try and give it a new *heart*.

But how can they honestly expect the new *heart* to succeed or be accepted by the *body* when they haven't bothered to cure the illness or change the things that took out the first one. Jonas is only a placebo...the show needs a cure and and a restoration/ resuscitation of the original *heart* of the series...and oddly enough that doesn't just mean the return of Daniel Jackson/Michael Shanks, but a restoration of the dynamics that made it work so well. You could progress naturally forward with them very nicely thank you.

Ok, just my thoughts.
