Expect crossover to SG:A, says Higginson

"It was a shock, because it seems like SG-1 has been around forever and ever, and the fans are so amazingly loyal to SG-1."

Torri Higginson, who plays Elizabeth Weir in Stargate: Atlantis, talks about her reaction to the news of the cancellation of Stargate SG-1 and the likelihood of SG-1 cast members making the jump to SG:A in an interview with the Sci Fi Channel.

MGM confirms cast & stories for SG-1 movies

In a press release today, MGM confirmed that the main cast members of Stargate SG-1 will return for the two planned straight-to-dvd movies - as expected Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Claudia Black and Michael Shanks will appear in both Stargate: The Ark of Truth, and Stargate: Continuum.

The press release also gives spoilers for the movie plots, so look away now if you'd rather not know!

The first movie, Stargate: The Ark of Truth, is planned to tie up season 10's Ori storyline, as SG-1 take a trip to the Ori galaxy in search of an Ancient artifact that Daniel believes can destroy the Ori once and for all. Meanwhile, in Stargate: Continuum, our heroes find that history has been changed and the SGC effectively erased from the timeline - this is particularly bad news for both Vala and Teal'c!

Sci Fi gives Hewlett more space

Hot on the heels of his experience making A Dog's Breakfast, Stargate: Atlantis star David Hewlett will continue to work behind the camera, says website the futon critic, as the Sci Fi Channel commissions him to write for a show set behind the scenes on a science fiction series.

Described as 'a high touch, high-tech comedy', will Starcrossed (or any of the other productions lined up) also see appearances from our favourite Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis actors? We'll keep you posted when we hear more...

TV movie director talks Shanks, twice over

"It gives me a lot of pleasure to offer an opportunity to an actor of Michael's ability to do something challenging... It just warms my heart as a director to afford him that opportunity and he certainly has fulfilled my expectations."

Our friends at Michael Shanks Online recently interviewed director George Mendeluk, who's had the pleasure of directing Michael Shanks in not one, but two made-for-television movies over the past few months: Under the Mistletoe, which aired in the US in December, and Judicial Indiscretion.

The latter movie, which is due to air in the US at some point in 2007, sees Shanks take on a much darker role than he has usually played on Stargate SG-1. His character is an initially-charming writer who gets involved with a would-be Supreme Court judge (played by Oscar nominee Anne Archer) and then shows he has a much more sinister side to his nature.

MGM picks up Breakfast

Back in November, we reported on an interview given by David Hewlett about his upcoming movie A Dog's Breakfast, which stars many familiar faces from Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.

Our belated congratulations go to David, as well as his cast and crew (which include Chris Judge, Rachel Luttrell and Paul McGillion), on the news that in December MGM picked up all worldwide rights to the movie - we'll let you know if we hear any more about when it might be coming to a screen near you...

Spader gets 2nd SAG nod

Congratulations to James Spader (the original Daniel Jackson) and the cast of Boston Legal for their second successive nominations for Screen Actors Guild awards - Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series respectively.

Sadly no nominations this year for Spader's co-stars William Shatner and Candice Bergen, who both picked up nods in the 2006 awards, but it's interesting to see that Boston Legal has moved from the 'comedy' to the 'drama' categories this year...

The award ceremony is broadcast in the US on January 28th.
