SG shows face off in Saturn Awards

This year's Saturn Awards, due to be announced on May 2nd, see Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis both picking up a nomination in the Best Syndicated/Cable Television series category.

Meanwhile, Stargate SG-1 newcomer Ben Browder picks up a nomination for Best Actor on Television, while his former Farscape co-star (soon to be an SG-1 regular) Claudia Black gets the nod for Best Supporting Actress on Television. Also picking up a nomination in that category is former Stargate SG-1 guest star Erica Durance (Smallville).

Get Your Free Jack O'Neill in May!

Free Comic Book Day has traditionally featured loads of wonderful free comic books from comic book publishers large and small, but this year it will have a special added (and unusual!) treat for Stargate SG-1 fans -- a Stargate Jack O'Neill Action Figure from Diamond Select Toys! Free Comic Book Day will be held at comic book stores across the nation on May 6, 2006. A special Marvel Heroclix Wolverine will also be handed out.

Richard Dean Anderson Finds His Inner MacGyver

Former Stargate SG-1 leading man Richard Dean Anderson ("Jack O'Neill") has filmed a new commercial for MasterCard which is now set to air during Super Bowl XL on Sunday, February 5.

In the ad Anderson slides down a wire, drives a semi truck through a
fence, and blows up a building -- then is found in a convenience store
purchasing replacements for all the things he used to make his escape
"priceless." The actor filmed a 30-second and 60-second version to
begin airing in regular rotation March 6.

The ad will air during the game's fourth quarter. Following the
premiere, MasterCard's Priceless.com will offer behind-the-scenes
footage and interviews from the filming of the spot.

SG-1 guest stars in Landscape appearance

Canadian theatre group Solo Collective, featuring Stargate SG-1 alumni Bill Dow, Laara Sadiq and Marilyn Norry, present the world premiere of Landscapes of the Dead from February 8th - 18th at Performance Works, Granville Island, BC. The play, set against the backdrop of Vancouver’s visual art scene, with the work of Vancouver artists featured on stage, is the story of a painter who believes she is nearing the end of her life.

Stargate Filming Begins on February 20th

Thanks to SueB for the tip. According to the British Columbia Film Commission, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are set to begin filming for their 10th and 3rd seasons respectively on February 20th!

New Stargate SG-1 Calendar Available!

A brand new full color official STARGATE SG-1 calendar is now available from Creation Entertainment.

They have mini-month calendars on two pages for 2006, other than October through December 2006 which has full treatment, and then of course all of 2007 is featured.

Stargate Vancouver Convention Location Tours

Creation Conventions has announced the addition of a special bus tour scheduled for Monday, March 27th following the Official Stargate and Stargate Atlantis Convention in Vancouver Canada. The tour guide is LYNN SMITH, Location Manager for seven seasons of Stargate SG-1 and she will be hosting an amazing day tour through the gorgeous city of Vancouver, pointing out locations used in the filming of the series. Lunch is included in the tour price. Extremely limited due to the size constraints of the bus seating.

The convention scheduled for March 24-26th will feature guests Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping, Joe Flanigan, Beau Bridges, Gary Jones, Cliff Simon, J.R. Bourne, Martin Gero and others connected with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

Tsotsi picks up Oscar nomination

Here at SDJ we've been following the progress of South African independent movie Tsotsi, written and directed by Stargate SG-1 guest star Gavin Hood (Colonel Vaselov), as it picks up awards all over the place over the past year.

"One isn't quite prepared for something like this," he says, in an interview with indieWire, as news broke that Tsotsi had indeed been nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Foreign Film. Everyone here at SDJ wishes Gavin and his movie the best of luck for Oscar night!

MGM reach out to new Worlds for game?

Hot on the heels of last week's news that the long-awaited Stargate SG-1 video game Stargate SG-1: Alliance was no more - a move that frustrated many fans, since it seemed clear that the game had reached the stage of being playable - MGM announced yesterday that they are working with development company Cheyenne Mountain to take SG-1 related gaming in a new direction.

They say that plans have been in the pipeline since September 2005 to develop an MMORPG, titled Stargate Worlds, though there's no suggestion of a possible release date so far.
