Spader Takes Home Emmy Again

For the second year in a row, James Spader has taken home the Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as attorney Alan Shore in "Boston Legal." William Shatner also won again this year for Supporting Actor as Denny Crane in "Boston Legal."

Stargate franchise leave Emmys empty-handed

Despite receiving three nominations in the Creative Emmy Awards, as reported here, both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis left the awards empty-handed as the Sci Fi Channel's shows were overlooked.

Up for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music and Outstanding Special Visual Effects awards (the latter for the premiere two-parter 'Rising', also competing against the SG-1 episode 'Reckoning Part 2'), Stargate: Atlantis lost out to Desperate Housewives and Lost respectively as HBO picked up 20 awards and ABC picked up 10.

Blalock gets Lost while Picardo returns

Jolene Blalock, best known to fans of Stargate SG-1 as Teal'c's Jaffa love interest Ishta, will make an appearance in season 2 of Lost, according to a report from SyFy Portal website. Blalock, also known by genre fans for her portrayal of T'pol in Enterprise, will appear in the episode 'Adrift' (due to air on September 21st) in flashback scenes.

Meanwhile, her Trek colleague Robert Picardo picks up his Stargate recurring role as Woolsey in the first of tonight's double Stargate SG-1 episodes, 'Prototype', as season 9 of the show reaches its hiatus.

Atlantis dvd set gets November release

StargateAtlantis_S1.jpgThe season 1 dvd box-set for Stargate: Atlantis gets its Region 1 release on November 15th, say website TV Shows on DVD.

So far there are few specific details on the extras included in what is expected to be a 5-dvd set, with a total running time of 873 minutes. It's anticipated that there will be cast interviews, a behind the scenes featurette and hopefully commentary by cast and crew, though at present there's no confirmation on whether the 'complete' box-set will also include the previously-released two-hour premiere episode 'Rising'.

McBeath treads the boards in lordly role

Fan favourite Tom McBeath, best known to fans of Stargate SG-1 as Colonel Maybourne, returns to his theatre roots this month when he appears as Leicester in Blackbird Theatre's inaugural production of Mary Stuart by Schiller.

McBeath, one of the founding members of this theatre company, will be taking the lead male role in this production, which runs from September 6th - 18th at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. Described as "A must-see" by local press, tickets for Mary Stuart are on sale now.

Nemec movie in Film Festival debut

Parzania, the latest movie to star former Stargate SG-1 actor Corin Nemec, in which he appears with Bollywood legend Naseeruddin Shah (best known to genre fans as Captain Nemo in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) will receive its world premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival in October 2005. The story of the movie centres on a young boy from a Parsi family who is lost in the chaos following the Gujarat riots of 2003.
