More twists in the Stargate SG-1: The Alliance tale?

Earlier this month, we commented here on the rumoured cancellation of the game's production after JoWood Productions issued a statement decrying the quality of the work done by Perception on Stargate SG-1: The Alliance. This was followed swiftly by a rebuttal from Perception, who stated that they were the licensees and that they were now considering court action against JoWood.

In another turn of events, "Science fiction fans everywhere will rejoice at Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, an authentic interpretation of one of the most beloved sci-fi series ever," said Garry Cole, executive vice-president of Namco Hometek, announcing they had obtained the rights to distribute the troubled game in North America. JoWood Productions, who may themselves now be on the verge of bankruptcy, hold the European rights but after so much wrangling, many fans of the show wonder whether the game will ever actually materialise.

Change of plans for SG video game as companies bicker

We commented here last week on the news that the planned video game project Stargate SG-1: The Alliance might now be canned due to differences between JoWood Productions and Perception, the company hired to make the game.

Perception have now issued a press statement decrying the comments issued by JoWood and stating that "Perception is the official licensee of MGM on Stargate SG-1: The Alliance. Any suggestion that JoWooD has rights to Stargate SG-1: The Alliance upon termination of the contract is incorrect and not based on commercial or legal fact."

Perception claim to be continuing work on the game, so all we can say to those fans looking forward to the planned release later this year is: watch this space!
