Read all about it at Our Stargate here.
Cult Times has excerpted portions of their new interview with Stargate SG-1's Michael Shanks in "Nine Lives" by Thomasina Gibson:
Michael Shanks wasn’t the least bit surprised when the powers that be decided to renew Stargate SG-1 for at least another year. Back as the indubitable Dr Daniel Jackson, Shanks is delighted with the upsurge of life and vitality injected by the latest additions to SG-1’s illustrious crew. Describing his initial reaction to the news of a ninth year, Shanks says, “Well, the idea of Season Nine took a long time coming about. We [as in everyone at Team Stargate in Vancouver] had every confidence that we could do it, but I think in television and the entertainment industry, when money is involved, executives like change and once certain things like the new characters were defined and once we started to decipher how the new dynamics would work, it became very exciting. It kind of became like we were treating it like a pilot of a brand new show.”

According to Zap2It, the Sci Fi Channel has picked up the rights to Joss Whedon's "space Western" -- including three episodes never aired on TV -- and will begin airing it Friday, July 22. It will air at 7 p.m. ET, leading into the cable network's lineup of original series -- the two "Stargate" shows and "Battlestar Galactica," which open their new seasons the previous week.
"Firefly's" Sci Fi debut will come about two months before the scheduled release of Universal Pictures' "Serenity," a feature film based on the series written and directed by Whedon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"). Universal and the Sci Fi Channel are both part of the NBC Universal media conglomerate. Sci Fi picked up the show from Twentieth Television, a News Corp. sibling of the FOX network, where "Firefly" first aired, and 20th Century Fox TV, which produced the series.
Set 500 years from now, "Firefly" follows the crew of a small, vagabond transport ship called the Serenity. Captained by Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), Serenity and its crew are perpetually on the run from the totalitarian Alliance, and Mal often resort to taking extralegal jobs to keep the ship flying.

'MacGyver' Actor Dana Elcar Dies
VENTURA, Calif. - Dana Elcar, the round-faced, balding actor whose real-life struggle with blindness was written into his role on the TV adventure series "MacGyver," has died. He was 77.
He died Monday of complications from pneumonia at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, his family said.
"MacGyver" ran on ABC from 1985 to 1992. Elcar played the best friend and boss of the crime-fighting title character, played by Richard Dean Anderson.
"At a time when I had very little business being called an actor, he made things so easy for me," Anderson said. "It was a learning experience that was very warm and loving for all seven years."
Elcar, who suffered from glaucoma, told producers he was going blind after four seasons with "MacGyver," so they adapted his character to match his medical condition. By the end of the show's run, he had become almost completely blind.
"The fact that you are losing your eyesight does not mean you have forgotten how to act," Elcar, in a speech to the National Federation of the Blind in 1991, recalled producers telling him.

Now Playing Magazine online talks to Richard Dean Anderson about his time on Stargate SG-1, his departure, and his plans for the future.
“The situation I put to myself, my immediate future that is, employment-wise, is that I don’t want to leave Los Angeles for a while. I’d rather not do a series that would keep me end-to-end five days a week,” Anderson explains. “Part of my situation [with] MGM in the latter years was to create a schedule that allowed me to spend more time down here in Los Angeles. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t even do what I need to do to accommodate my daughter now. I’ve had some offers to do some things that would shoot here.”
