Attendees at the Creation Con this past weekend in Dallas, Texas were the first to hear about part of the focus of Stargate SG-1's upcoming 9th season. Both Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge were in attendance at the convention, as well as Teryl Rothery, Don S. Davis, Peter Williams and others. Spoilers ahead, so avert your eyes if you don't want to see! Apparently, according to the actors who attended, the new villains in Season 9 will be a race of evil ascended Ancients. There was also apparently some indication that the Furlings might finally be seen and/or heard from!
Thanks to all the attendees who have provided convention reports at the Our Stargate Forum, especially JoMadge, the first to report in!
Andromeda's Lexa Doig (Rommie) is apparently set to appear on the ninth season of Stargate SG-1. As reported on Our Stargate by an attendee of Creation Con in Dallas this weekend, "Lexa auditioned and won a guest role with several upcoming appearances!" For those who don't know, Lexa is Mrs. Michael Shanks (Daniel Jackson). The man himself proudly stated he had nothing to do with his wife getting the role, it was all on her own merits.

Ratings just released for the Stargate SG-1 season 8 finale episode 'Moebius, Part 2' in the UK show that the episode was watched by 813,000 viewers. The ratings for that episode are in dramatic contrast to the season high of 1.19 million for 'New Order, Part 2'. The season finale at least shows a creditable increase from the ratings lowpoint of 'Threads', watched by just 650,000 viewers.
This week's Stargate: Atlantis episode, 'The Gift', managed 602,000 viewers (with Atlantis now apparently holding steady in the UK ratings), while much-repeated Stargate SG-1 episode 'A Matter of Time' showed just why Sky loves to repeat the show with an impressive 360,000 viewers in the usually-quiet 6pm timeslot.
Despite the recent news of the show's cancellation, Enterprise is still picking up the awards. On February 16th, the Visual Effects Society announced that the Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series had gone to Enterprise, for the episode 'Storm Front, Part 2', beating out both Stargate SG-1 ('Lost City, Part 2') and Stargate: Atlantis ('Rising').
Congratulations from everyone at SDJ to Chris Judge (best known to fans of Stargate SG-1 as Teal'c) and his partner Gia on the birth of their daughter earlier this month.
New episodes of Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 both figure in the top 10 of shows being downloaded off the internet, UK researchers Envisional revealed this week.
The growth of broadband has sparked a similar growth in episode downloads, with the UK and Australia leading the way - downloads from those two countries combined account for 34% of episode traffic.

The Our Stargate Forum is lucky enough to have the opportunity to bring you a new Questions and Answers session with one of the actors who appeared on Stargate SG-1. This time, the actor is Ben Bass, better known as Daniel Jackson's (Michael Shanks) rival from "The Curse," Steven Rayner. Fans of "Forever Knight" will also remember Ben as the handsome young vampire, Vachon. Ben is currently the lead on a new show called "The Eleventh Hour."
Ben's representative has given one caveat and that is that there is no guarantee on how long it will take for Ben to answer these questions. But, hey -- the same is true every time we do a Q&A, right? We know and understand that the actors are busy and thank them for taking time to talk to us!
So, please ask your questions of Ben Bass at the link here. We will compile them and send them to him. The deadline for posting your questions is February 24th, 2005.
"I'm older now; I want to do other things," said Stargate movie director Roland Emmerich in an interview at the Berlin Film Festival this week.
Though best known for movies like Independence Day and Godzilla, the man who helped bring Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill to the world now plans to make movies with more of a message in the future and has set up a new production company, Reel Machine.
Reel Machine's first production will be The Girls Next Door, a movie about the child sex trade, while Emmerich himself plans to take back the director's chair for Soul of the Age, a political thriller about Shakespeare with an all-British cast.

Both the print version of TV Guide (for the week of February 13th, 2005) and the current online version of TV Guide (in the Ask Matt Roush column) are featuring letters from viewers about Stargate SG-1 Michael Shanks and his character, Daniel Jackson. The online letter is wondering why Stargate SG-1 star Michael Shanks has been removed from SciFi Channel's recent promotional ads. The writer feared he was once again leaving the show. As reported here earlier in a statement from Michael Shanks' publicist at Michael Shanks Online, Mr. Shanks is not leaving Stargate SG-1 and has indeed signed on for a 9th season.
The printed letter takes issue with an earlier TV Guide comment that Ben Browder is Stargate's "new leading man" and expresses the opinion that they have "always found the star attraction to be Dr. Daniel Jackson, incomparably portrayed by Michael Shanks. His costars may get higher billing and more press, but Shanks is the heart and soul of the show."
The SciFi Channel's success in pairing up Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica for "SciFi Fridays" continued on February 4th as it once again led the field among cable channels. Ratings for all three shows remained high with Battlestar Galactica showing its best performance yet. Read the press release, courtesy of Mary McNamara and SciFi Channel at the Our Stargate Forum.
Happy 45th Birthday to actor James Spader, best known to our readers as the original Daniel Jackson in the Stargate movie (now played on Stargate SG-1 by Michael Shanks). Spader currently stars with William Shatner and Stargate SG-1 alumni, Rene Auberjonois, on the ABC drama, "Boston Legal."
The Sci Fi channel today confirmed the addition of Emmy Award winner Beau Bridges to the cast of Stargate SG-1, as reported here last week, before going on to announce roles for Oscar winner Lou Gossett Jr. and sci fi fan favourite Mitch Pileggi (X Files) on SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis respectively.
Bridges will join Michael Shanks, Chris Judge, Amanda Tapping and new boy Ben Browder as recurring character General Hank Landry, who takes over command of the SGC when General Jack O'Neill is promoted once more, this time to head of Homeworld Security. Gossett is touted to play a Jaffa leader, vying with Teal'c for control of the new free Jaffa, as the Jaffa storyline continues into season 9.
Meanwhile Pileggi will take a recurring role in season 2 of Atlantis as a hard-nosed colonel who butts heads with Dr. Weir (Torri Higginson) and Major Sheppard (Joe Flanigan).

From Yahoogroups SpoilMe list:
Stargate was mentioned in the TV Section of the NY Daily News today (Feb 6),
along with a head-to-shot of Michael Shanks. The text reads:
GALACTIC CHANGES FOR STARGATE SG-1
According to Michael Shanks, big changes are ahead for Stargate SG-1, SciFi Channel's No. 1 show. "We're taking off in a different direction this year for sure. It's almost like beginning again," he notes, "but in a good way. We do know that Richard Dean Anderson is stepping away from the show in a large
capacity, if not entirely. We have a new character played by Ben Browder of
FARSCAPE coming in to fill that void, and Claudia Black from FARSCAPE is coming in as well, so there's going to be a big shift as far as dynamic," explains Shanks. "The show's concept just has so many amazing possibilities that I think we've only just scratched the surface."
"Reportedly ordered to shape up or ship out last spring, Enterprise is averaging 2.9 million viewers on Friday nights this season. Of late, the show has dipped so low--2.5 million for last week's episode--that it's being matched, sometimes even surpassed, in its time slot by Sci-Fi Channel's Stargate SG-1."
E!Online is among one of many online sources making the connection between the success of the channel's Sci Fi Friday package, and particularly the placement of Stargate SG-1 in the same timeslot as the reportedly struggling Trek franchise show, and recent news of the cancellation of Enterprise after its current fourth season reaches its finale.

The triple bill of new episodes of Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis and Battlestar Galactica, promoted as Sci Fi Friday, continues to be a ratings winner for the channel.
New Stargate SG-1 episode 'Prometheus Unbound', prominently featuring the dynamic duo of Claudia Black (Farscape) and our own Michael Shanks, pulled in a rating of 2.1 (2.5 million viewers), showing a 6% increase over the previous week's episode.
Stargate: Atlantis pulled in an impressive 2.4 rating (2.9 million viewers), closing in on the 2.5 rating (3 million viewers) that Battlestar Galactica achieved. All in all a successful night for the channel, with all three series increasing their audience share and Sci Fi maintaining its position as the number 1 cable channel for the prime Friday evening slot.
