"He wasn't able to participate in the promos because he was out of the country at the time. Rest assured Michael IS returning for the full 9th season," said Michael Shanks' publicist when asked by fan-run website Michael Shanks Online about his absence from the recent Sci Fi promos for the second half of Stargate SG-1's season 8.

Own the tuxedo worn by James Spader (original Stargate movie Daniel Jackson and now starring on Boston Legal) at the 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and the 62nd Annual Golden Globes. His tuxedo is up for auction through Clothes Off Our Back, a celebrity clothing auction to benefit UNICEF's tsunami relief effort. There are many, many items available at their site from the Golden Globes. The auction runs through January 30th. As of this moment, the going price on Spader's tuxedo is $550.00 and the reserve price has not been met. Go bid! Here's a direct link to the Spader auction.
In conjunction with Legends Memorabilia, fan-run convention Gatecon is currently running an auction of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis items to raise money for victims of the Asian Tsunami disaster - items include personalised autographed photos of all four members of SG-1 (with the possible highlight being a rare pic signed by Richard Dean Anderson).

In December we reported that James Spader, best known to fans of Stargate SG-1 as the original Daniel Jackson, had been nominated for a Golden Globe award for his performance on Boston Legal.
At the Golden Globes ceremony last night, Spader failed to pick up the Best Actor award, won instead by Ian McShane (Deadwood), while his castmate William Shatner unexpectedly came away with the Supporting Actor award.

"I still think sci fi actors are underestimated by audiences who may not know what's requried of them," says Claudia Black in an interview with the BBC, covering her work on Farscape and also her appearance opposite Michael Shanks in the Stargate SG-1 season 8 episode 'Prometheus Unbound'. The episode in question airs later this month in the US, with Claudia's character of Vala tipped to return for at least 5 episodes in season 9.

Satellite channel Sky One have bought the UK first run rights for both season 9 of Stargate SG-1 and season 2 of Stargate: Atlantis, reports media information source C21.
Sky are reportedly pleased with the ratings for both shows and have renewed their deal with MGM International, doubtless hoping the appearance of genre favourites Ben Browder and Michael Shanks together in the new season of SG-1 will help continue that success.

"I’m currently talking with the production team, but I have not decided yet. However, if I do take part in the ninth season, it will be for a limited number of episodes, three or four. But, in my mind, the eight season may be the last one."
That's Stargate SG-1 star Richard Dean Anderson, when asked about his plans for involvement with the upcoming season 9, in an interview translated from the French that's been posted on a fan website. The age of this interview is unclear but this seems to be the clearest indication so far that it's unlikely Anderson will rejoin Michael Shanks and his other co-stars even on a part time basis.

Celebrities braved deep-freeze conditions on Friday, January 7th, to race on skis and toboggans as part of an ecological fundraiser hosted by American environmental lawyer Robert Kennedy Jr.
Stargate SG-1 actor Richard Dean Anderson shrugged off the frigid weather, which caused some cameras to freeze up on fans hoping to capture an image of their favourite stars, who were often unrecognizable, heavily bundled in winter gear.
"I miss winter," said Anderson, who has spent the last eight years filming the sci-fi series Stargate SG:1 near comparatively balmy Vancouver.
"Being from Minnesota creates hardy stock," said Anderson. "I've got thick blood, thick head, the whole nine yards."
Among some of the other celebrities on hand, was James Spader's co-star from The Practice, Camryn Mannheim. Read the rest of the article here.
Candice Bergen joins James Spader, William Shatner and the cast of Boston Legal in new episodes beginning tonight (Sunday, January 9th) on ABC in the US. The Boston Herald says the show is a "best pick" and has this to say: "Bergen's Shirley Schmidt has heard about all the shenanigans (lawyers without pants, lawyers without mental stability, lawyers without shame) at Crane, Poole & Schmidt and decides to take action. The arrival of the erstwhile Murphy Brown will prompt the exit of Lake Bell's scantily clad Sally Heep next week.
And can we make one small request? We'll stipulate to the fact that there is something innately sexy about James Spader. His smarmy Alan Shore is a compelling, fascinating character. We're sure a jury of viewers would agree.
But it's beyond a reasonable doubt that every woman who crosses Alan's path would want to sleep with him. The man has romanced nearly every actress in the opening credits and his fair share of guest stars. Let's hope that Schmidt doesn't fall prey to Alan's charming ways. Surely they wouldn't expect us to believe that. "
Claudia Black (Stargate SG-1's Vala/Farscape's Aeryn Sun) and David Hewlett (Stargate Atlantis' Rodney McKay) both make an appearance with gorgeous photo spreads and articles in the February issue of the US SciFi Magazine, Starlog (Issue #331). Claudia Black talks about her time working on Farscape, the Farscape miniseries, and working with Stargate star Michael Shanks on "Prometheus Unbound." David Hewlett talks in-depth about his role as Rodney McKay and his previous appearances on Stargate SG-1. To read excerpts from Hewlett's interview online, go here.
In 2002, Stargate SG-1's star Michael Shanks appeared in a short film called "SF Seeks...", written and produced by Lisa Ryder (Becca Valentine on Andromeda) and David Schmidt.
With the kind permission of both Michael Shanks and Lisa Ryder, a clip showing Michael's scene, as well as the closing credits featuring Michael, his wife Lexa, and other members of the Andromeda cast who also appeared in the film, are now available on the MichaelShanks-Online website.

She has also left a message thanking the fans for their well wishes and generosity and requesting that those wishing to send gifts for the baby donate to a local hospital or UNICEF. Stargate SG1 Solutions cites an unknown source as revealing that two actors have emerged as front-runners for the role of Stargate SG-1's new commanding general: Oscar and Emmy award winner Louis Gossett Jr. and Golden Globe winner Stacy Keach.
The fates of former generals Hammond (Don S. Davis) and O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) remains unknown. There continues to be no word on whether Richard Dean Anderson will return for the ninth season. At last official word, the only confirmed long time cast member for the new season is Michael Shanks.
