Stargate Official Magazine Launches

STARGATEBANMAG.jpg

Stargate SG-1 The Official Magazine launches on October 26 in the US and October 28 in the UK! - Cover Price: $6.99 (US)/ $9.99 (Canada)

Below are some quotes from the Michael Shanks/Daniel Jackson interview (used with permission) --

Michael Shanks/Daniel Jackson

He reflects on how the SG-1 team has adjusted to life without Jack O’Neill in season eight: "What you have is three people who respect each other. Orders aren’t necessarily given, because the chain of command is kind of vague. The ranking military officer is going out [into the field] with a scientist and an alien. It’s very important that everyone on the team has to take control of [their] job. Everybody implicitly understands what the other’s role is and what the arguments will be. So it’s just about redefining the team."

He reveals that we are to find out more about his character’s missing year. "We talked about needing some closure, some sort of explanation about what that universe was like and what conversations happened between Daniel Jackson and Oma Desala and why he ended up being descended."

He talks about his co-star in upcoming episode Prometheus Unbound, Vala, played by Farscape actress Claudia Black. "Claudia and I had this wonderful push-pull dynamic between us, which had a lot of different layers to it."

From Stargate to starfighter

"You have to place yourself into a parallel universe looking through the Stargate. There's that element of fantasy or pure denial of looking at what's right in front of you and making yourself believe something else. I think that crosses over between sci-fi roles."

Grace Park, best known to fans of Stargate SG-1 as Lieutenant Satterfield in the season 5 episode 'Proving Ground' talks with about.com about her role as Boomer in the new Battlestar Galactica series, being the rookie and the commonalities of sci fi shows.

MacGyver Finally Coming to DVD

According to the website TV Shows on DVD, MacGyver is finally coming to DVD! They say "there are some high-speed plans for this show, starring the ever-popular Richard Dean Anderson. Look for that series to not only arrive on DVD in 2005, but to quickly hit a fast track and demand space on your shelves at home. Plans can always change (expect us to repeat that another dozen or so times), but you can potentially look for quarterly releases to arrive in January, April, August, and December." Michael Shanks in surprise con appearance

German City Con

German City Con have announced that Michael Shanks will now be replacing Amanda Tapping as part of their line-up for the upcoming convention in December 2004, in what looks like being his only convention appearance in Europe for the time being.

"Since Michael has become a parent himself a few weeks ago, he understands Amanda's situation better than anyone else. Michael did not plan to go to on conventions any time soon, but after talking the situation through with his family Michael decided that he wanted to do GCC 2004 for Amanda and the fans, who expected to see a member of SG-1," say the convention organisers.

"Ben Browder and [female lead] Claudia Black are terrific," "Stargate SG-1" executive producer Brad Wright said in an e-mail. "The show itself was always a mystery to me. I didn't get it. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance because I couldn't get past the muppet."

Boston Legal Premieres Tonight!

Don't forget! Boston Legal, starring James Spader and William Shatner, premieres tonight on ABC in the United States at 10 pm ET. The Orlando City Beat says:

ABC's new Boston Legal is a spin-off of Kelley's The Practice, a somewhat successful show that ran out of juice a couple seasons before getting cancelled this past spring. Kelley's smart though. Two of the actors won 2004 Emmys for their oddball performances and those are the two starring in Boston Legal.

Emmy winner number one is James Spader (Secretary, Pretty in Pink). Spader plays Alan Shore, a lawyer who will step outside the ethical boundaries to win a case. Emmy winner number two is William Shatner (Star Trek), who plays Denny Crane, Shore's boss. He's either a brilliant tactician who likes to pretend he's nuts, or he's just nuts.

To read the rest of the article, go here.

You can read an interview with William Shatner by The Telegraph: Star's Trek Into Legal Drama.

Catch a review of the new show here. And another one from the Philadelphia Inquirer here.
