On Tuesday 9th march 2004 at 8:00 pm precisely I sat down to watch the second half of the final episode of Stargate SG1 Season 7. This time last year, I wrote a fairly scathing review about the Season 6 ender, Full Circle, and I was really hoping that this year would be different. But in reality it has been a good three years now since I sat down to watch a brand new episode with a sense of excitement and hope; a confidence that I would be entertained, stimulated, even intellectually challenged. In the last three years, more often than not, I have come away from a new episode with a creeping sense of disappointment, of let down – with the feeling that this could have been so much more but failed in some respect..... read more on the Editorial page.

Ascension: Success and Failure
by Celtic Angel.
Never in the history of Stargate has there been an episode more controversial than Meridian. Setting aside the politics of whether or not the episode should have ever happened, or whether or not SG-1 is whole without Daniel Jackson, many of us still feel the need to examine our young hero’s farewell, time as an ascended being, and his return to his corporeal form. How did such an adventurous, somewhat successful journey become such a controversial, unsatisfying disappointment to those who love him most.....

Fans of Joss Whedon's soon-to-be-canceled WB Network drama series sprung into action last month once it became official that the spawn of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" would get the big spike in May. The Save Angel postcards and full-page ads have been flowing into The Hollywood Reporter and other publications for weeks, but "Angel" fans distinguished themselves from past fan-fueled salvage initiatives last week by hiring (at $700 a day) a billboard truck to drive around Los Angeles and park at strategic locations (including THR's Wilshire Boulevard offices, Warner Bros. and the WB, Paramount, UPN, HBO and 20th Century Fox) for maximum impact and, of course, free media exposure. Where Has The Jack and Daniel Friendship Disappeared To?"

About.com has posted a review of the Stargate SG-1 season finale episodes The Lost City, Parts 1 and 2. They also have images posted. An excerpt ...
The goals for this script were quite something: bring the “Lost City” arc to a close without ending the need for the Stargate Program, set up the genesis of Stargate Atlantis, and provide an explanation for Jack O’Neill’s continuing lack of attendance on the show.
But considering the quality of writing for the show, the surprise isn’t that the two-part episode, “The Lost City,” airing Friday the 12th and 19th, does all this, but that it does so much more. This ranks as certainly one of the best episodes in the past few seasons, and reminds us all why we got hooked on the series in the first place. [Read the rest of the review]

Why Team Matters, by Carole
"No man is an island, entire of itself. Every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main." (John Donne)
In the case of Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'c, their "main" is SG1, the SGC, the USAF, Earth. The strengths of each enhance the ability of the whole; the weaknesses of each are negated by the others' strengths. This element of complementarity is highlighted especially well in episodes such as Solitudes.....

Zap2It has once again picked Stargate SG-1 as a "best bet" for viewing, this time for the season finale on Friday, March 19th. The Lost City, Part 2 airs at 9 pm ET on the SciFi Channel.
Season finale already? Why, it seems like only yesterday when Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) rejoined the SG-1 team. Don't worry, though -- the show is coming back for an eighth season, and a spin-off will premiere on Sci Fi in July. In fact, tonight's finale (the conclusion of a two-parter) acts as a launching point for "Stargate: Atlantis." When last we left the team, O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) had been given the knowledge of the Ancients -- but it was revealed that knowledge would kill him within the week without help from the Asgard. Tonight, the team discovers what may be the lost city of Atlantis, and O'Neill puts his life on the line to save the world.

Kingdom Hospital Drops Dramatically in the Ratings
From http://scifi.com/scifiwire
Kingdom Flatlines
ABC's Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital saw its ratings drop a whopping 35 percent this week from its premiere, Variety reported. Kingdom Hospital's second Wednesday-night episode saw a preliminary 3.7 rating in adults 18-49 and a total viewership of 8.5 million. That was down more than one-third off its key demographic audience and a staggering 40 percent off its total audience from the previous week, the trade paper reported.

A new 'old' editorial by Celtic Angel is re-printed here with her permission. Even two years later there are still some valid points to be seen.
"We're Only Limited By Our Imaginations" --Richard Dean Anderson, June 7, 2002
Wise words from a wise man. The other producers and writers of Stargate SG-1, might have done well to heed those words of wisdom. In an interview on Regis and Kelly, this last Friday, Anderson patiently tried to explain the concept of SG-1 to host Regis Philbin. He spoke of the unlimited possibilities of worlds and civilizations that could be explored, summing it up by emphatically stating, "We're only limited by our imaginations." Herein lies the key to the frustration of many Stargate viewers. Or at least this one....

James Spader's "Practice" Cancelled But a Spin-Off is Confirmed
Various news reports and a press release by ABC have confirmed that "The Practice" will be ending its 8 year run on May 16th. The character played by James Spader, Alan Shore, will be moving to another law firm and a new show.
From Thursday's Programming Insider on mediaweek.com:
ABC's The Practice to End in May:
As rumored in recent weeks, ABC's veteran The Practice will conclude its eight-year run on May 16 as a precursor to a new David E. Kelley spin-off drama focusing on the world of civil law. Several characters, including recent addition James Spader and co-stars Jessica Capshaw and Rhona Mitra are expected to stay on board. Look for the new series to begin unfolding after Spader's character, Alan Shore, joins a bigger firm after being fired.

FilmForce Reviews Stargate Season Finale, The Lost City
FilmForce has posted a review of The Lost City on their website. A short excerpt:
Stargate: SG-1 wraps up its 7th season in the usual style: Earth is in peril, the fate of the galaxy rests at the feet of the SG-1 team, etc. SG-1 has never had a reputation for presenting ground breaking science-fiction and the 2-part season finale, Lost City, isn't going to change that perception but viewers will find an entertaining story with the usual humorous dialogue and rock steady performances that have been the show's trademark for 7 years.
