New names for SG and Atlantis

The Sci Fi channel today confirmed the addition of Emmy Award winner Beau Bridges to the cast of Stargate SG-1, as reported here last week, before going on to announce roles for Oscar winner Lou Gossett Jr. and sci fi fan favourite Mitch Pileggi (X Files) on SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis respectively.

Bridges will join Michael Shanks, Chris Judge, Amanda Tapping and new boy Ben Browder as recurring character General Hank Landry, who takes over command of the SGC when General Jack O'Neill is promoted once more, this time to head of Homeworld Security. Gossett is touted to play a Jaffa leader, vying with Teal'c for control of the new free Jaffa, as the Jaffa storyline continues into season 9.

Meanwhile Pileggi will take a recurring role in season 2 of Atlantis as a hard-nosed colonel who butts heads with Dr. Weir (Torri Higginson) and Major Sheppard (Joe Flanigan).
